Sparkpaw rose, and then padded quietly out of the camp. The guilt was an enormous weight on her, and she walked slowly. Walking a little distance away from camp, she curled up in a small hollow in a tree. "This is where I'm going to spend the rest of my life," she thought depressed.

Ebonywhiskers looked sadly at the she-cat, knowing that this would be hard for her. He got up and left the camp, as he slowly padded around, he picked up a scent trail, it was Sparkpaw's. He followed it to the hollow tree that had just been occupied bye foxes, before they were driven out. He stopped when he heard he thinking aloud, smiling to himself, he jumped up into the tree with her. She was curled up and surprized at his sudden entrence,"Sparkpaw? If you don't want people to know where you are, you shouldn't start thinking aloud." He smiled and settled down in with her,"The badger wasn't your fault, and as for backing it into a corner, that was me. I was stupid and I had to stop you from getting hurt. Now what is still all your fault?"

Patchleaf pads to the nursery, still bleeding, checking on her kits. "Are they all safe?" She demands.

Ebonywhiskers sighed, so that was the problem, he meowed quietly to her,"You know, I was a bit of a showoff myself when I was about as many moons old as you are now. I tried to impress the current leader, who died in that terrible mudslide, and eventually she decided to grant me my warrior name. She told me,'Ebonywhiskers, you will make a fine warrior one day, if you stop listening to you arragence, and start listening to your heart.' Well, I took her advice, and you know what happened Sparkpaw? I fell in love and now I have kits, and I am deputy. You see, it doesn't matter what others think of you, as long as you think good enough of yourself." He smiled at her and began to get down from the tree, once he had reached the bottom, he looked back up and meowed,"So Sparkpaw, are you comming?"

Sparkpaw leapt down to beside him. Her tail and ears still drooped, and she was still depressed. "I still don't want to be a warrior if it means hurting others like you," she mewed softly.

Ebonywhiskers smiled at the apprentice and meowed softly,"If you want to know the truth, it was I who should be sorry. I backed that badger into a corner without thinking, and almost cost you your life. I just glad that I was able to knock you out of the way in time. You see, being a warrior, and being deputy, means that you have to put the intrests of the clan in front of your own. The intrest of the clan would have been in keeping you alive, especially since you will be a warrior soon. I did my duty when I got you out of the way, and any other cat would have done the same for you. We are you clanmates, and we would do anything for you... Except for jump off a cliff. You would have to go that one alone." He smiled at the young apprentice and meowed,"Letts go home."

Ebonywhiskers senced Sparkpaw's timidness, and decided that he couldn't try to help her anymore. They had both put the clan's needs in front of their own, and she would come to see that one day. As they entered the camp he noted to himself that the bramble wall was in desperate need of repair and settled down in Moonheart's den for a nice long nap.

Sparkpaw padded into the apprentice's den, her ears and tail drooping. Curling up into a corner by herself, she put her head on her paws. "I failed to protect the queens and kits, and only ended up hurting Ebonywhiskers," she thought depressed. " I should tell Skystar that I don't want to become a warrior anymore. I don't want to tell him about what happened though, because he's going to be so disappointed in me."

Moonheart pads over to Sparkpaw its not youre fault Ebonywhiskers was hurt he was following th warrior code he would risk his life for the clan just as the warrior code says you followed it at youre own risk to Ebonywhiskers chose to fight and so did you.
