Blaise nodded to Kcoul. She needed a way to get this Lord Gefton away from the forest, just for safety’s sake. But the only way to draw him away from the forest was to go into dangerous territory herself. This one was going to be a bit of a stretch.

“I understand that you are under the instruction of this Lord Algren you speak of. I will hold council with you but I first request that I speak to your Lord Algren as well myself. If you’d rather it not be, all the same, let us begin council.”

Gefton’s ancient lips parted in a smile as he gave a small chuckle, his eyes sizing Blaise up.
“Ah, my dear lady, I fear Algren would not allow you time to speak before his spear would run you through. He is a simple man and one of a cold, calculating mind, but he is, for lack of a better term, possessed by his dream. He dreams of a unified and peaceful Empire and he seeks to destroy any and everything that stands between peace and the people, and right now he feels you are the obstacle. Some say, that when peace comes to the empire, he will kill himself for all the wrong he has done If you still seek council with him as well, I can take you to him but there I can promise you no safety. Here you have safety, there well…” he shrugged “I make no promises.” Gefton paused for a long time before adding. “But I am glad that you agree to council.

Blaise frowned slightly as her bit of hope for getting away from the forest was pushed away; no good.

“Very well.” She said, “We shall hold council as the two of us. But before we begin, I must ask that those who accompany me step aside.”

Blaise looked to the other three in her company and said, “I can do this on my own. You may either remain here in waiting, or continue what I had started and look for the Lieutenant and tell him to halt the troops until I get there. Either way, you must stay out of these matters.”

Looking back to Lord Gefton she nodded slightly, “Shall we?”

Chrono looked shocked. It was quite possible he was not giving Blaise enough credit for her skills, but that did not stop his protective, big brother-like tendancies to kick in. It was safe to say without words he'd be staying nearby to keep a close eye on her. Well, as close as he actually could. No telling where these talks would be held.

"I will remain here in waiting, Ma'am." He said flatly with a final tone. There was no those ways to change this block-head's mind.

His head tilted to the side as he bowed it. "I will go." He said, as he stepped back into the woods. He turned and walked behind a tree and quickly dissappeared. Kcoul shook his head as he went from tree to tree. He didn't really know why he was here even in the first place. He sighed, knowing it was because of Skhantieniaia. He shook his thoughts of her out of his head. He needed to concentrate now and he couldn't afford to get distracted. Going from tree to tree, he went in search of this 'lieutenant' person.

After Kcoul spoke, Glen looked to Blaise and said, "I will go too Mage Superior, once I have done this I will attempt to find you and return with the lieutenant’s reply." Following this, Glen quickly vanished into the woods, and when he was sure he was out of sight, he took one last look at Blaise and Chrono before continuing in the direction they had previously been traveling. He knew that he had to move as quickly as possible, but he also had his suspicions that Gefton might have placed soldiers around his position in case something unexpected happened, so he also moved as silently as his training would allow.

Lord Gefton shook his head in silent amusement, but kept silent as the obviously head Forester spoke to her subordinates. Gefton nodded when she turned back to address him and he ran a hand through his beard with his right hand. On the surface, Gefton looked calm and composed, beneath his wrinkled exterior, Gefton was nervous. He was alone, no fellow troops stood within a several mile radius and there was not telling whether or not he would be killed after his message was delivered. Because if he failed to do what Algren had instructed and the Foresters let him go…Gefton admired Algren’s devotion to the Empire but feared his zealous passion. Gefton brought his mind back to the present and made ready to begin council. “Very well Forester. I thank you for holding council

Blaise nodded to Gefton and gave a reassuring glance to Chrono. As she heard him address her as ‘Forester’ she realized that he had introduced himself but she failed to do so.

“My apologies. I realize that I haven’t properly introduced myself. I am Mage Superior Blaise; you may just call me Blaise on simple terms. Now that matters of identity are out of the way we may move to important matters. If where we stand is suitable enough for you, then let us begin council. Otherwise, if you have a place to your liking . . .” She said in a last attempt to stand but a little farther away from the forest.

An amused look ran over Gefton’s face. He had not expected the forester to actually give her name. He was under the impression that secrecy was everything to these Foresters but he at least knew that the negations would be civil. How long had it been since he had managed to have one of those?
“Well, Mistress Blaise, now that we are past such formalities, I do believe we can begin. This is a good a place as any to hold council wouldn’t you agree?” Gefton had sensed her desire to move them from the forest but Gefton knew that he had to stand firm at some point and beside, with the precious forest around Blaise and the scene of the chard foliaged might make her more open to actually consider what he would be proposing.
“Well then,” Said Gefton, slowly lowering his scarecrow like body to the ground. “I guess I should tell you what this is all about.” He crossed his legs and straightened his back before going on. “You see, Mistress Blaise, thought the force that stands before your precious forest is mighty, it is divided. A daughter of the emperor stands with three legions of Dragon Slayer Hopefuls and two other Dragon Slayers behind her, but she will not march until she deems it proper to do so. That is what she says, but all know that she desires for Algren to grow impatient so she can move in and kill him, claiming to all that would ask that Algren was acting against the will of a child of the empire. And, although the Emperor considers making Algren the successor to the throne, until his Eminence the Emperor does so, Algren dares not raise a finger against any seed of the emperor.” Gefton paused for a fit of coughing and then went on. “Algren is angered by his inability to march and burn this forest and you foresters. Now I must tell you something about Lord Algren. He is a man with a vision, like yourself. He believes in bringing unity and peace to the land, and he sees groups like you causing ripples in the placed pond of peace. However, this child of the Emperor is more of a danger to Algren and his cause because she is more concerned with the glory of herself than the glory of the Empire. So , this is Algren’s proposal. Launch the attack we know you will eventually launch but focus on the camp upon the hilltop, the one without the towers and heavy fortifications. Attack this camp and you will find that Algren and his men will not come to the other camps aid. In fact Algren shall personally deliver the head of Mistress Blood to you and then he shall with draw his forces, claming defeat at your hands.” Gefton paused again, catching his breath. “Now, Algren or another Dragon Slayer will return, one of the Emperor’s armies might even be marched against you, but you will have time to prepare yourselves and make ready for such a battle. This is Lord Algren’s proposal.” Gefton crossed his arms and looked at Blaise intently, the wind gusting slightly and blowing a small patch of ash past his head.

The messenger smiled with relief to be surrounded by the tents of his fellows. He was in Algren’s camp once more and the horse stood painting and foaming. The messenger pointed hurriedly.
“That large white tent Jacob it where Lord Algren is.” The messenger waited for the boy to get of so he could get back to his bead and away from this madman.

"Ah, that was it." Jacob asked boredly as she slid off the side of the horse and took his back. "Such a short trip, and I was beginning to enjoy the scenery...

No sooner had Jacob walked away from the horse di the beast cillaspe to the ground. It was a horrifying sight to see. The horse's skin was torn and bloody, as if its muscles were just bursting from beneath its skin. Needless to say, this creature was dead, and at the hands of Jacob it had met a very painful and gruesome demise.

"Ew... you'll want to clean that up before it starts to smell..." Jacon commented, his nose scrunched up with displeasure.

Blaise sighed and sat on the ground, following Gefton’s suit. She crossed her legs and listened to his proposition thoughtfully. This would be a tricky answer.

“Let’s say I accept this proposal. We attack the camp upon the hilltop and claim victory. Lord Algren or what ever Dragon Slayer returns and we claim victory yet again, making that a statement of ‘if’. What is to become of us afterwards? Clearly we cannot continue our business as Foresters if we are considered a ‘ripple in the placed pond of peace.’ We cannot continue what we do if the Dragon Slayers will still be against us. It comes to my understanding that Lord Algren does not have the knowledge of who we really are or what we really do. We Foresters save innocents, not criminals. Take it from a person who has a firsthand account. I was not born within these woods and trained to become the Forester I am, but rather was saved from the death sentence I received from the Empire for committing no crime.”

Gefton listened to Blaise response and nodded in approval. Her words were chosen well and she spoke with intellect, not a fanatic fervor. She made points that would need to be argued and Gefton took a long time to respond.
“So you are not a native then, well…”A chuckle “I make no lie, the Empire is corrupt, I have seen this for many years. Innocent die, many fear to leave homes for fear they will die. I will not make judgment except that the man in power and most of those who taste power in the Empire are corrupt. They have absolute law and they do as they see fit. But do you ever ask yourself why? For example, Algren ordered a town burned near here, many innocent died but to Algren, he was doing a heroic thing. He knew you would come to the people’s suffering. It was all a trap. To Alrgen and to many that run this empire, they believe a few must suffer and die to ensure peace. If criminals know that any crime they commit results in death, most will not commit the crime and civilians to prevent innocent deaths, make sure crime is stopped. But for this policy to be effective, those in power must show no mercy. The orders of a master must be carried out, no matter what. If not, society falls apart and we have anarchy.” Gefton was silent for a very long time and then he spoke to Blaise, only now his voice was melancholy and slow “I too, like you, am a victim of the Emperor’s justice. I once had a wife and a son. However, my wife and son were in the wrong place at the wrong time and sentenced to death for a murder they did not commit. They died and I found out only when I returned home to find a royal notice informing me of what had happened.” Gefton gave a sad smile. “Algren is young and stupid, he believes peace will come to this land with the eradication of the Foresters. He sees you as the trouble with the Empire. He may not know much about you but with that misconception he would march against you a thousand times if he had that many lives. And tell me forester, how many Imperial soldiers have your troops killed? How many of them had families and your people cared not as they were cut down? Are those foot soldiers not innocent? They simply obey orders like they should” Gefton paused, his eyes narrowing slightly “Can you really sit their and say you are better than the empire when you kill to? Do you really believe your promised Messiah will ever come? Algren has a dream of peace; he once showed me an entire room of scrolls at his house where he had made laws and ways to make peace in the Empire. What are you doing for peace? You kill soldiers guarding prisoners and call it justice! The Empire is dying and you are helping it die!” Gefton snorted bitterly “You Forester’s may be waiting for a Messiah but those who know Algren have found one already.”

Algren sat in his tent, the flame of a single candle burning before him. He watched the candle slowly melting.
“Am I a fool Asmudius?” Algren said slowly, breathing heavily. “Am I like all most of the Empire says, a fanatic fool?” Algren never looked at the tall, white haired man lurking in the darkness around him.
“Lord Algren, you are a not a fool but a visionary!” The femine voice hissed out from the shadows. “Once the foresters are dead, you’ll be a hero! The emperor will announce you as his heir and then your vision of a united Empire shall be yours!” Algren nodded, some color coming back to his cheeks as he waved of a spectral figure conjured up by his imagination.
“As always, my friend, your council is most appreciated.” A sudden out burst and cries reached Algren and he grabbed his spear as he rushed out, the cold wind hitting him hard in the early morning. Algren saw the horse and then smiled as he saw Jacob.
“I should have known that the moment you entered my camp, something would be dead.”

Jacob gave a good-natured chuckle, and spread his arms wide.

"Algren, its been too long, far to long, my old friend." He said, greeting the man as if he was his brother. "Though next time, I suggest you send mesege with someone who has a bit more of a backbone. That poor man was shaking in his boots before I even spoke a word to him."

Jacob cast a glance back at the messenger, not frantic over the gruesome fate of his steed.

"It was a pathetic creature, sir. As you've told me, the strong only use the weak a their stepping stones..."
PostPosted: Sun Feb 18, 2007 2:13 pm

Algren embraced Jacob, delight shinning on his face.
“You are right Jacob, it has been far to long.” Algren released Jacob and then turned toward his tent and motioned for Jacob to follow. “Well, since we have much to catch up on, let us at least do it over glasses of wine and meat. It may be early but a little wine clears the head eh?” Algren chuckled “So, how is life with the alchemists? Your society is even more secretive than the dragon slayers. Or if you tell must you kill me?” Algren held the flap of the tent open for Jacob to enter.

"It has proved.... most interesting. Things there are too complicated for me to want to explain. All too boring a story to tell." Jacob offered as they stepped inside. He was looking forward to a good bit of wine and a time to relax. The calm before the on-coming "storm" was always his favorite part.

"Business before pleasure, Algren. You wouldn't have called for me unless you were in dire need of my particular expertise."
