I play bassoon, and I'm first chair at my school, I hate the other bassoonist, she thinks she's so good at bassoon when she's never once been in tune. She also constantly complains that she's second chair saying she's a better player than me. I should probably learn how to read rhythm though, that might help my case.

Yeah, I know how you feel, kinda...me and my best friend play bassoon, and I think I should be first chair, but she thinks she should be first chair...so to solve it, I get first chair, because then I an tell my parents that I have 2nd chair and they don't see me...they have the annoying tendency to wave at me when I'm on stage... stare

My original instrument is clarinet, but I'm learning Oboe. I love it so much. I think I'm going to completely switch over to it. And I do guard in marching band.

WOOT for bassoon, I have played it 9 years, made 12 chair All State in Texas, so I am the 12th bassoonist in the state of Texas... I love bassoon and miss playing in a band, I've been keeping up my chops out of school playing my Mozart solos and such....but man I miss playing in a group, I played and marched Clarinet my Freshman and Sophmore year and Had a bassoon solo my Junior year in Marching band so I started playing pit. My senior year I was assistant Pit Captain, (only because my main instrument wasn't percussion) so yeah, I had to learn 4 mallet and everything, LOVE IT!!! xd

I've been playing oboe for about two years now, and before that I played clarinet for 3 1/2 years. I have to play it in marching band because my director refuses to let me stand with the pit and play my oboe. I love it so much I would gladly do that...
(As for bassoons, we have are unfortunate enough not to have one in our band this year. I've always respected bassoonists, because I know it's probably the hardest instrument to play {possibly because I have never really heard a good bassoonist, the ones in our area are rather lacking...} no offense to you guys, of course...)

During marching season, I'm in the colorguard. Shootin' for captain next season. biggrin
I've been bassoon-ing since 6th grade. Now I'm a sophomore in high school. My friend who's been playing bassoon beside me since the beginning takes lessons and practices. I don't.. yet.. hehe. He's very good and I'm just about average. I don't even know how I managed to get to the same band class as him since there are four bands in my school based on skill. 4laugh But yeah, that's my double-reeded history.

I've been playing oboe since the 6th grade and I am now a junior. I'm first chair in my school's top band. My school marches and everything, but we always play our concert music almost everyday, so I always get to take out my oboe. But for marching I'm a flag, and for pep band I play flute. (Why waste a reed on blowing your chops?) I do get to play english horn occasionally, depending if there is a separate part, or a small part in one of our pieces.

Here's what I do for double-tonguing: I roll my tongue on the reed. Top of tip of tongue on the bottom part of the reed, bottom tip of tongue on top of the reed. Sounds like s**t though so i don't recommend it..
