I play the clarinet in Mesa High Marching Band, Even though We had one practice for the summer right now, I think it would be the best! Once we get to concert season, I'm going back to the Oboe!

Durza the Shade Obaa-chan On a side note, what condition is/are your reed/s? The one I'm using right now has 4 small chips at the very end,but it plays ok... I use four at a time, switching them out every time I put my clarinet together. I first learned to play in Texas, you see, and band is big there. So I have better habits at taking care of my reeds and instruments than anyone I know. Anyway, I'm using three relatively new ones, and one old one that's too good to give up. They're all mostly unscathed. YAY TEXAS BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And does anyone else bite their reeds when they get nervous? sweatdrop

Hey I play teh Bb clarinet at Falcon Cove middle school in sunny florida. cool I am going into 8th grade, my 3rd year of playing and i am going into a better band! 4laugh instead of concert(3/4 best,4 being begginers and concert IS beginning so i dunn know why i am put there)band i am going to 2nd best Symphonic! Last year I was 4th chair and hope to at least get to 3rd chair! sweatdrop I truly enjoy playing and i practice at least 20 minutes a day here at home even in summer cuz at school we have practice cards due and this year I have to practice for 40 min a day and clarinet is a lot of fun i wanna stick with it through high school!my mother won't buy me a B45 mouthpeice or a single ligature....... cry I need them! I go to drama camp during summer-it's my 2nd favoritething besides music and instruments. biggrin During camp my band friends(most of my friends) are in teh band camp, and teh band office and teh drama room(my groups room) are connected so I see them everyday and I am very angry at my group and counselor(besides welcometomyhell she is on Gaia and is a band GEEK[as we call it]) cuz they DIS us! stressed They play DUCK DUCK GOOSE with ACTORACTOR BAND GEEK!!!!! scream And if they get caught, they go to the middle where every one says ew!!!! gonk evil That's like band geek racism! evil Teh band room during teh year is where every band geek gets together in teh morning, in or right outside of it, we have a lot of fun and band is our thang. wink plus we all totally enjoy teh morning in teh room cuz everyone is laughing and something is always happening so we never get bored! rofl WHOAH I'll shut up for now redface

Hey, I need some help. I'm trying to buy a clarinet and I can't decide between the LeBlanc Concerto or the Buffet R-13/Festival.... I haven't played an R-13 yet, but I tried a concerto and the sound was really serene... magic like (better than my dumb E-11)... I'm buying a new clarinet because I need better tone, and I was the only person at my All-State with an intermediate clarinet... xp

Maybe I should buy a humidifier.... xp

For some reason, instead of getting better, i have a feeling im getting worse. And thats really bad, because this year im the only 8th grader returning for another year to Honors Band in the clarinet section. So naturally right now im first chair, but if i get worse (or if i actually am im hopin this is all in my head) a 7th grader will beat me in the first weeks of school..thats quite embarassing. Like on my concert Bb scale, from the higher register f to c, my tounging isnt precise, and you can hear grunts..anyone have any tips?

Usually, I don't tongue my scales, since on woodwinds runs are...well...runs. If you're going faster, sometimes it's best not to tongue, but if you're going slower, just keep up at being more accurate with your tonguing, and I'm sure you'll do fine. As for feeling you're getting worse, well, sometimes one just has a slump in music. Look for something to inspire you and keep practicing, and it'll come back to ya. wink
