TeaDidikai RubyLight Is the "any similar religion" point invalid? Otherworld traditions abound. They also have their own titles. Call me a shaman and see what happens. twisted Shaaaamaaan...

Well, I'm as fluffy bunny as they come, but much too old to care. I follow Hathor and Thoth, but I celebrate May Day, Lammas, Halloween and Candlemas. I mix things together, I have not been initiated into anything, I've been a solitary for about five years now. I'm also very tantric, in the Western view of tantra, and an experienced astrologer.
I'm very old to be here on gaia, but I found the Colbert item irresistible, so here I am.
As for the shaman talk, a good book on shamanism is Barbara Tedlock's The Woman in the Shaman's Body: Reclaiming the Feminine in Religion and Medicine.

cordgrass Well, I'm as fluffy bunny as they come, but much too old to care. So, you don't care that you engage in perpetuating lies that mislead others? Quote: As for the shaman talk, a good book on shamanism is Barbara Tedlock's The Woman in the Shaman's Body: Reclaiming the Feminine in Religion and Medicine. Ummm... no. This is a good book on Culture Rape.

No, I think she is just the one being misled. Unless she is telling others, then they are also misled from her being misled. I know that is specific to Thelemites, so I am guessing yes.

Angus of the Crooked Way No, I think she is just the one being misled. Unless she is telling others, then they are also misled from her being misled. I'm not suggesting she perpetuates it. I'm suggesting she engages/adopts/embraces lies some of which are horribly racist. Quote: BTW, I don't do this anymore, but is it culture rape to use magick? I know that is specific to Thelemites, so I am guessing yes. Arguably. The only way it makes sense is if you're part of a cultural tradition that has YHVH-tradition roots. Thelema by virtue of being derived from the Golden Dawn qualifies.

Erm...I think you might have misunderstood me. I meant is it culture rape to use the word "magick" with the K on the end. Isn't that specific to Thelemites? Either that or I misunderstood you...

Magic spelled with a K only makes sense if you're talking about a tradition that has the same numerology.

Well, call me a cultural rapist then. I'm not what you would call a moral person, I don't much care about right and wrong, or religious systems for that matter. I'm a witch because the proof is in the eating. Also, because if a person has a gun it's best for them to learn how to use it, go to a shooting range, learn how it works.

I echo Ruby's question; if you don't care about raping a culture til it's glamorous, then why are you here? You seem pretty set in your ways. Quote: I'm a witch because the proof is in the eating. Also, because if a person has a gun it's best for them to learn how to use it, go to a shooting range, learn how it works. If I understand your analogy correctly as the way you feel about right and wrong and such, then also part of the analogy is that it's okay to use the gun to shoot people just because you've learned how to use it? confused

I came here because I am solitary, for companionship, not instruction, but it looks like I will remain solitary.
I shouldn't have to explain the gun analogy to another witch.

cordgrass I came here because I am solitary, for companionship, not instruction, but it looks like I will remain solitary. Fair enough. But, there is what I would say a huge amount of discussion and debate that goes on in here...which tends to lean towards learning! Quote: I shouldn't have to explain the gun analogy to another witch. Wait, when did this happen? WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED THAT I AM NOW A WITCH? Damn, I hate when people don't send me those memos xp .

Well, the tags on this board say Pagan, Wicca, Paganism, Witchcraft, Witch, so it's understandable that a newbie like myself would expect the regulars to have a familiarity with witchcraft.
Some of the threads here are very amusing--I will go read the guidelines but a quick question on rules--I know gaiaonline is pretty PG-13, but is discussion of chakras and sexual energy practice allowed on this board? Just curious.
