When Phee returned, worried about how loudly she'd gotten up for her morning, Kraven shook her head. "No you're fine, I'd probably've been up earlier if yesterday hadn't been so tiring." If nothing else, it certainly gave her some of her best sleep in quite a while. There was a real temptation to just lie back down and nap until noon, but that wasn't really a luxury when on the road.
So she gathered her clothes and started off towards the bathroom, chuckling at Phee's condition for being needed. "Good, and hopefully they'll wait to break in until after I've got some clothes on." The raven-haired musician gave a small wave before shutting the door behind her. By then, Gungnir had already stirred from his slumber, much more disturbed by all the noise and motion than his trainer had been. He grumbled and shook, but when the redhead reached over and started to pet, he was at least placate.
Unfortunately that left them both vulnerable to Klaus' craving for spooks, sneaking up on his trainer and making her... Scream? It was hard for the little Oshawott to tell, all he knew was that it was loud. Sudden enough too for him to be surprised too, giving a little jump that made him slip out of the sheets and tumble onto the floor, fortunately only handing on his back. Now he was right back to irritation, looking up at Klaus as he bid him good morning. "It would be a better morning if you'd stayed in your chair."
Meanwhile, Kraven had barely had a chance to get her hair wet before she heard that mixed noise from her companion, staring in their direction through the wall as if waiting for some sort of follow-up. When none did, she called out. "You okay out there, Phee?" She held her hair back and poked her head out of the shower, hoping her voice would carry better without the water straight on top of her.

☆ ☆【Phoenix relaxed considerably at her companion’s reassurance, remarking that she probably would’ve woken up earlier if she hadn’t been so tired from the other day. Still, at the very least they were both pretty well rested and ready to tackle their plans for today, after Kraven had her shower and they both got some breakfast in them of course. A light laugh escaped her lips at her friend’s comment about any aforementioned bad guys trying to break in would hopefully wait until she was dressed first. ”We can only hope,” she said with a smile, holding a hand up to return Kraven’s wave before she disappeared into the bathroom. Granted the idea of the dark-haired musician fending off a gang of thieves in nothing but a towel sounded like something straight out of some kind of off-the-wall action movie, though Phoenix shook her head, deciding not to dwell on that thought for too long.
Moments later after the door shut, Gungnir poked his head out from under the sheets, looking rather grumpy at all the noise and movement and his trainer having disappeared for the time being. Happy to keep him company until Kraven came back, Phoenix moved over to sit with him on her friend’s bed and pet him to help him lighten up a little. Unfortunately Klaus had other plans in mind as he used the opportunity to sneak up behind her while her attention was elsewhere, spooking her and causing her to let out a loud squeal in surprise. In turn the sudden noise caused Gungnir to jump as well, dislodging him from the bed and causing him to tumble to the floor in the process. Thankfully it wasn’t a long way down and the floor was carpeted, though it was clear he was pretty irritated as he returned Klaus’s greeting by saying the morning would be better if he’d just stayed put.”Ah, very sorry for disturbing you, my friend…”Klaus apologized with a sheepish smile, scratching at an ear,”The opportunity was admittedly a bit too tempting to just pass up, I’ll be sure to give you a warning beforehand next time.”
Phoenix sighed and shook her head, gently pushing the Zoroark away. ”Well for everyone’s sakes, including myself, please keep the mischief on the down-low for now. It's too early for that,” she remarked with an undertone of warning in her voice, gesturing towards the recliner, ”In the meantime you should at least clean up after yourself so we can head right out after Kraven finishes up.” Happy to comply, Klaus retreated from the bed, picking up the pillow he’d borrowed and carefully placing it back where it belonged before working on resetting the recliner. Blowing out a breath and brushing a few loose strands of hair out of her face, Phoenix gave an apologetic smile to Gungnir as she bent down to carefully scoop the little otter off the floor and into her arms. ”Will this be okay for now? I can just put you back on the bed if you want,” she asked. Of course he might’ve preferred it to be his own trainer to handle him like this, but maybe he might not mind her too much as a surrogate for the time being until Kraven returned.
Speaking of, the redhead glanced up as her friend’s voice came from the bathroom over the noise of running water asking if she was okay. Given what had happened only moments ago, one would think she might’ve been getting murdered out here or something. ”Yeah, I’m alright,” she called back, shooting a glance over her shoulder at the Dark-type behind her, ”Sorry about that, just a certain Zoroark being up to no good as usual.” Yeah, just Klaus being Klaus, no cause for alarm there. Well, not yet at least… Barring that he didn’t get any other ‘bright ideas’ for more early morning shenanigans to potentially distract them, that is. Phoenix huffed as she felt her cheeks heat up in embarrassment, if she’d been loud enough for her friend to hear over the shower hopefully she hadn’t disturbed their neighbors too… if they had any at least. For now, though, it was probably best to not make a big deal out of it unless any actual noise complaints were brought up, the redhead sighing as she contented herself with gently stroking Gungnir’s head to help him re-relax a bit while they waited.】☆ ☆

Gungnir unfortunately didn't really get the nuances of sneaking up on a person and startling them with your presence, so he remained unhappy with the big Zoroark. Even after being shoo'd away and left to clean up his little spot, the Oshawott's gaze followed him every step, only relenting when Phoenix picked him up off the floor. In the redhead's arms, his complaints seemed to melt away, seemingly just as comfortable in Phee's arms as he did in Kraven's. "This'll do. This'll do just fine..." It was as if his only goal in life was finding the best place to take a nap.
Meanwhile, his trainer was still in the dark about all the noise, having to call out and make sure she wouldn't actually be making an emergency exit. She shook her head when Phee finally reported back, somehow unsurprised that Klaus was behind it all. "Alright then. Kick him for me if it's another false alarm then." Whether or not she was kidding, the raven-haired trainer got back to her shower, indulging a little with the hot water pouring down her body.
Had she been alone, she might've spent an hour enjoying it, but she didn't wanna keep her companion waiting. She'd settle for a quick, ten-minute wash, finally emerging from the bathroom still rubbing a towel on her head. "Sorry for the wait. I can take that lazy little otter off your hands in just a minute." Gungnir, placated by being held and Phoenix's petting, quite nearly fell back asleep. That gave Kraven some free time to collect her bag and finish drying her hair.

☆ ☆【In spite of Klaus’s apology, Gungnir still looked pretty annoyed with him even as the Zoroark retreated to go clean up his part of the room, at least to leave as little work for the hotel housekeeping services to worry about as possible. Though if the Dark-type paid any mind to the little otter’s irritated gaze burning into his back he said nothing, staying quiet for now as he replaced the pillow Kraven let him borrow and put the recliner back into its original position. Figuring she’d spare Gungnir from being stuck on the floor until his trainer returned and at least help him calm down a bit, Phoenix gently picked him up and cradled him in her arms. Any trace of agitation on the Oshawott’s face gave way to lazy contentment as he relaxed, the redhead felt glad that he felt comfortable enough to let her hold him as his trainer would as he insisted this would do just fine. ”Sure, I don’t mind as long as you’re fine with it,” she said, gently rubbing his head and behind his ears as she sat back down on the bed. ”I’m really sorry about, well… him. It’s just his way of being playful and having fun, and he never means any harm by it, but…” the redhead apologized as she glanced over her shoulder towards Klaus, chuckling wryly, ”Just count yourself lucky you haven’t had to put up with him for the past twelve or so years.”
Given how loud that noise from before had been, it was only to be expected that Kraven had happened to overhear it over the roar of running water in the shower as she called out to check in on things. Figuring she’d spare her friend the trouble of having to cut her shower short and bursting out of the bathroom to make sure nothing was wrong, she quickly reassured her friend that no drastic actions needed to be taken and informed her of what had transpired. A sardonic smile crossed her lips at Kraven’s response, unsure of if it was meant to be joking but taking it in stride regardless. ”Will do,” she said, casting a sharp glance over her shoulder to make sure aforementioned Zoroark wouldn't try anymore funny business even though she’d explicitly told him not to. Klaus simply returned her gaze with a smile, holding his hands up in a defensive gesture to say ‘I’m not doing anything’.
The next ten minutes went by quietly enough as the Zoroark finished tidying up his little corner and Phoenix kept Gungnir placated and comfortable as she held and pet him until Kraven emerged from the bathroom, dressed and drying off her still wet hair. The redhead offered a smile, shaking her head at her companion’s offer. ”It’s no problem, really. I certainly don’t mind holding onto him for a little longer if you’re alright with it,” she suggested, moving to stand up while keeping the drowsing Oshawott in her arms as steady as she could so he wasn’t rolling around too much with the movement. Klaus took the courtesy of retrieving his trainer’s bag and guitar case for her in the meantime while she had her arms full with her little passenger, moving to stand by the door.”We should be down in time to at least catch the tail end of that continental breakfast, at least if you ladies wanted to grab anything to eat before we head out~”he suggested with a smile, his eyes darting over briefly to quickly check the time.
”The bistro’s only about a few minutes’ walk from here and it’s on the way out of the city towards where we’re heading. I’ll probably wait until we get there to eat, but if you wanted to grab a small something to nibble on the way be my guest,” Phoenix said with a shrug, nodding towards Kraven, ”If they have any portable snacks like granola bars or whatever, I’ll probably grab a few of those for us to have on the road.” She wasn’t sure how long they might be out in the desert for before moving on to Nimbasa from there, but it would be good to at least be prepared in the meantime. They had quite a bit of ground to cover today, especially with all the training to be done in preparation for Elesa’s gym. The water-type listened to the redhead's apology, humming thoughtfully as he got comfortable in her arms. From what he'd seen of him in the short time they've known each other, Gungnir didn't much doubt the Zoroark's lighthearted intentions. It just so happened that those intentions ultimately pried him from his spot and sent him tumbling to the floor, which wasn't quite so easy to gloss over for the tiny otter. The implication that it wasn't an uncommon occurrence didn't help a bit. "That's not very encouraging..."
Fortunately, Phee's hold was just as good as Kraven's in the Oshawott's eyes, making him settle back down into a nice nap. Even when his trainer returns he doesn't make a fuss about being reclaimed. "Yeah, if it's not too much trouble. I'll start getting my stuff together while you've got him then." The dark-haired musician let the towel rest on her head as she collected her belongings, doing a quick check to make sure everything was in her bag, then slung her case over her shoulder.
Once Phee and Klaus got to talking about breakfast, she gave her hair one more hard rub to hopefully dry it some more, before making her way to drop the towel off in the bathroom. "That's probably a good idea. Maybe grab some crackers and a few water bottles while we're there? I know some places'll just have a little cooler for drinks instead of a dispenser." If the desert heat was anything like the one north of Lumiose, Kraven didn't want to be caught out there without something to cool off with. Though from the sounds of it, Phee sounded like she knew enough of the area to keep them from getting lost, so hopefully it wouldn't come to that. "I should still have those cookies left over from the cafe too, so a couple small snacks will probably do us fine. Lead the way." Rejoining her companion at the door, Kraven was ready to tackle the day once more. Only a few, wet patches of hair still stuck out from her head, dripping the occasional droplet onto her shoulders.

☆ ☆【Gungnir seemed thoughtful as he took a moment to ponder over Phoenix’s apology for Klaus and his antics, though given that the lazy otter seemed to really value his comfortable sleeping spots above most other things she couldn’t blame him for being as annoyed with the Zoroark as he was. Even if disturbing the little Water-type hadn’t been his intent from the start. Frankly it wouldn’t be the first time Klaus had caused some trouble with his playful and usually well-meaning pranks even if he didn’t mean to, and it likely wouldn’t be the last either. The redhead sighed and gave a sheepish smile to the Oshawott’s remark. ”Yeah, sorry…” she said, shaking her head, ”I’ll try to keep a closer eye on him from now on, if that’ll help you feel at least a little better.” Though from the looks of it, just her holding and petting him seemed to be doing the trick just fine, Gungnir looking about ready to fall right back asleep as he relaxed and got comfortable in her arms.
Even when Kraven reemerged from the bathroom, towel in hand as she dried off her still pretty wet-looking hair, the little otter didn’t seem to be in any real hurry to be passed back over to his trainer. Of course Phoenix was more than happy to hold onto him a bit longer while her friend got her belongings together, Klaus taking the liberty of grabbing his own trainer’s bag and guitar case after making sure nothing was missing or misplaced. As they got ready to head out, Klaus, seeming to read the redhead’s mind, dropped the suggestion of them possibly grabbing a couple small snacks from that continental breakfast downstairs since they’d be down in time before it was finished. Kraven chipped in her agreement with Phoenix’s suggestion of grabbing any portable snacks they might have to take on the road, saying they should grab some crackers and some bottled water too since some places have a cooler for drinks rather than a fountain dispenser. ”Yeah, my thoughts exactly,” she agreed with a small smile, waiting patiently as the other stepped into the bathroom quickly to drop off her towel, ”We probably won’t be out in the desert for too long, but it’d definitely be a good idea to have a decent water supply with us just in case.” They probably wouldn’t have to worry too much about being out in the hot desert sun for too long if they’d be going into the Relic Castle too, with it being underground it was likely it’d be kept pretty consistently cool as opposed to the aboveground areas. Still, the idea of possibly getting lost out in the desert was hardly an appealing situation, though on the off chance that might happen it should be easy enough for them to just fly their way out in case of an emergency. While she was sure Mothra would be fine enough to carry Kraven in such a situation, Jetta should be able to handle the both of them easily enough just in case. Only thing was Phoenix wasn’t sure how she might handle flying such a Pokemon on her own, much less one that she was still quite unfamiliar with… Hopefully it wouldn’t have to come to that, though she’d keep that in the back of her mind as a contingency plan in the event of a worst case scenario.
Her eyes lit up at the mention of the sweets they’d grabbed from the café in Striation yesterday, remembering she still had her brownies. Thankfully those seemed to have been spared from the Aerodactyl attack yesterday, much to her relief. ”Aha, right. We should probably eat those sometime soon before they sit for too long. Unless you really like your cookies stale for some extra crunch,” she lightly teased with a chuckle, nodding in agreement with Kraven’s suggestion as she stood by with them at the door. Her hair still looked pretty wet in some places, but it wasn’t anything some sunshine and warm air couldn’t help with once they got outside. ”Oh, and here. I’m sure he won’t mind napping for a bit longer on the way,” she said as she nodded towards Gungnir in her arms, carefully reaching over to transfer the still sleeping otter to his trainer while being as gentle as possible to not disturb him too much with the movement.
Klaus nodded in affirmation when it looked like everyone was ready to get going, opening the door and letting the two trainers step out of the room before exiting himself and closing it behind them. Making their way down the stairs, the residual aromas of cooked batter, sausage, and other breakfast smells directed them towards the small dining room area upon reaching the ground floor. There were still some hotel guests moseying around the tables as they grabbed their own breakfast, but it looked like they’d missed most of the big morning rush much to Phoenix’s relief. Upon closer inspection it seemed like they had a pretty standard continental breakfast setup, biscuits, toast, and croissants with packets of jam and butter, scrambled eggs, sausage links, and bacon in those metal buffet-style containers, assorted fruits, mini muffins, coffee, milk, juice, and a dispenser of pre-made batter next to a pair of waffle irons on the far end of the long counter.
She noticed they did have a fountain dispenser for juice and milk, but her eyes were drawn towards the small cooler set off to the side of it. Taking her cue, Klaus gave a nod and a smile as he made his way over to it, grabbing three water bottles and tucking them away into Phoenix’s bag before grabbing three more for Kraven. Meanwhile, Phoenix found a plastic container full of pre-packaged crackers and what looked like assorted flavored protein bars next to the fruit bowl, grabbing a handful and storing them in an empty pocket in her bag so she’d have an easier time finding them. After gathering a decently sized supply of snacks and such for the road ahead, the redhead walked over to the front desk to return their room key while Kraven grabbed anything she might want to take for herself, noting that the same man from last night was still there. He gave a smile and a tip of his hat to her, bidding her good day as he stored the key away. Returning a ‘thanks’ and a farewell to him, Phoenix was happy to lead the way out after everyone had reconvened.
The streets of Castelia were certainly much busier in the morning, but luckily they wouldn’t have to deal with much in the way of large crowds on their way. The junction leading down Mode Street was only a short walk away from them, and with it still being pretty early in the morning the bistro would surely be quite busy but they should be able to grab themselves a table if they got there quickly enough. ”Good to see you seem to be feeling much better today,” the redhead spoke up as she took the lead, making light conversation as she looked towards Kraven with a curious yet somewhat concerned gaze, ”Any lingering aches or soreness at all…?” Surely a good night’s rest and a hot shower had eased most of the pain and fatigue, though given all the rather… rough activity from yesterday it might take at least a day or two for it to completely go away. Still, just seeing her dark-haired friend already looking more energetic and in high spirits was enough for the redhead herself to feel a bit more eager to take on what the day had in store for them. Hopefully with much less falling and random Pokemon assaults involved, at least.】☆ ☆

It seemed the girls were of one mind as far as stocking up was concerned, especially given where they'd be spending their day at. Though Kraven couldn't know how different it'll be once they're out of the sun and into this castle place, the last thing they needed was to get stuck anywhere without something to eat or drink. "Heh, I will, don't worry. Though I can't imagine the chocolate in your brownies will stay edible any longer than mine," She pointed out, finally joining her companion at the door. Once Phee held out her arms the raven-haired musician collected her starter without a fuss, following the redhead's lead until Gungnir was back safely in her arms. "Yeah, though I imagine he'd nap until the world ended if he could have his way."
With that, the trio finally made their way out, retracing their steps until the mixed scent of fresh food guided them towards the continental setup. Had they not already made plans, Kraven wouldn't have minded getting started right then and there, picking up a small fruit to munch on while they stocked up on supplies. Klaus already picked out water for her, so she set her sights on the same crackers her friend had pilfered from. Unfortunately those biscuits weren't going to stay fresh out in the open for very long, and the last thing she needed was a mess in her bag for food she couldn't eat.
The former fighter took one last look around before deciding she was content with her stock, and moved to follow her companion. She waved off the man at the desk on the way out and covered her eyes a bit when they stepped outside, the morning glow still a little harsh after just waking up. Kraven simply followed Phee's lead towards the bistro, trusting her to stop them from getting lost. "Yeah, I feel a lot better," she confirmed, stretching out the arm that wasn't currently holding her pokemon. "If I'm not back to 100%, then I can't really tell."

☆ ☆【The Desert Resort was definitely not the kind of place to get stuck in without having a supply of food and water, and the group seemed to come to a general consensus to stock up on whatever they had available at that continental breakfast. While Phoenix was somewhat hopeful that they wouldn’t have to worry too much about possibly getting lost out there, it also happened to be an area of Unova that she wasn’t all that familiar with herself. She did know how the general direction to get to Nimbasa, though, and since they each had a Pokemon capable of flying they’d at least have a means of getting out quickly in case of an emergency. She chuckled at Kraven’s comment, the raven-haired musician pointing out that the brownies she’d gotten likely wouldn’t last for much longer either. ”Aha, touché there. They should be good for a few days since we only got them yesterday, so there’s that at least,” Phoenix said with a shrug, happy to pass Gungnir back over to his trainer once they’d all assembled at the door. ”Heh, must be nice being able to sleep all the time and not worry about much of anything else aside from food,” she chipped in with a soft laugh, looking towards the still napping Oshawott as he settled into his trainer’s arms, ”I kinda envy him a little.”
Klaus had to admit he was a bit jealous too as he listened to the pair talk, glancing towards Gungnir as he dozed away without much of a care in the world. It reminded him a lot of how Phoenix used to hold him almost all the time when they were younger and he was still a Zorua, like he was a teddy bear or a security blanket she took with her everywhere so she always had something to comfort her. Not so much anymore now that she was much older and he far too big to really be carried around, though he wondered how it might feel to relive the experiences of the olden days… if only just for a little while. Still, he didn’t dwell on such thoughts for very long as their little traveling party headed downstairs to stock up on supplies for the day and return their room key to the concierge before leaving. They had a pretty nice-looking breakfast setup, and the mixed smells of fresh brewed coffee and various breakfast foods really whet the appetite. The Zoroark was tempted to swipe a bit of sausage for himself, but held back for now in favor of what breakfast plans his trainer had in mind as he focused on retrieving water bottles for them. Hopefully six split between them would be enough to last for however long they’d be out there, though he figured that if they felt like they needed any extra supplies between now and departure there were plenty of stores on the way out. And if all else failed, they could keep any empty bottles and just have Hanaka or Gungnir refill them as they went. Water-types were definitely pretty handy to have for just such an occasion, the more he thought on it.
Satisfied enough with what they were able to grab for now, Phoenix returned their room key to the kindly old clerk who’d served them last night and bid goodbye before they headed out. The redhead raised her hand in preparation to keep the bright morning sun from completely blinding her as they made their way back onto the busy streets, giving her eyes a moment to adjust before leading the way. She knew Castelia like the back of her hand, having spent quite a few years here during her street urchin days alongside Clark. The tight maze of alleyways made it pretty easy to travel quickly between areas and shake off any pursuers if you knew how to navigate them, and the rooftops of the lower buildings were pretty accessible if you could climb well enough or found other ways to get up there. The redhead found herself absentmindedly looking over at such areas as they walked along purely out of habit, it had usually helped to scout out any possible escape routes just in case a quick getaway was needed. Tearing her gaze away after a moment to check in with her companion, she smiled warmly at Kraven’s confirmation as she stretched an arm out to demonstrate. ”Aha, well as long as there’s no particularly bothersome aches or pains you can feel then I’d say that’s a good sign,” she affirmed, running a hand through her hair, ”Let’s hope today won’t be quite as rough and tumble, or at least not so much as yesterday was. And definitely try not to fall from the sky again, doctor’s orders~”
Chuckling under her breath and winking playfully at her dark-haired friend, the redhead looked back towards the road ahead as they made their way down the ever-busy Mode Street. Small scatterings of people milling about populated the area, with the odd businessman running by in a hurry to get to work on time or teenager riding through on a scooter or skateboard. It hardly took long for their destination to come into view, a small, modest looking bistro sandwiched between a clothing shop and a tall building that looked to be an apartment complex. The name ‘Crawford’s’ was displayed across the dark red awning hanging over the restaurant’s front in fancy cursive white-colored text alongside a stylized picture of a Tepig in a mid-trot pose. Just by the door was a small chalkboard with what was surely the daily specials on it in large bold handwriting and colorful chalk, and there were a handful of tables set up outdoors shaded by large parasols set in their centers. "Here we are," Phoenix said as she gestured towards the restaurant, leading them inside as she held the door open for Kraven and Klaus. A tall young man dressed in a crisp-looking red and black uniform and long blonde hair pulled into a loose ponytail greeted them cheerfully as they entered, already moving to grab a set of menus for them. The inside of the bistro was quite packed since it was still mid-morning rush so they had no indoor seating available at the moment, but the blonde waiter was quick to direct them to one of the tables outside where only a few were currently occupied.
”Hope you don’t mind eating outdoors, we could always ask to move inside when they have a spot freed up,” Phoenix suggested as she took a seat in the cushioned chair and picked up the menu after the man set them up with their table and took his leave. Klaus slid into the chair to her left with a grin, his own menu staying largely untouched for now.”Mmmm, I’ve almost forgotten how good the food is here, it’s been a while since the missus last took us out to eat,”the Zoroark remarked absently, his eyes immediately sliding over to check out the specials on the chalkboard nearby. Cinnamon bun pancakes, chicken and waffles, and a hearty steak and egg breakfast platter… Klaus hummed and licked his lips, already having an idea of what he was getting. The redhead nodded absently in thought as she scanned the menu, glancing over towards their dark-haired companion with a curious tilt of the head. ”If you don’t mind me asking, any idea of how long you might want to stay here in Unova for the time being, Kraven?” she inquired, the question having lingered in the back of her mind since last night’s discussion, ”Just wondering, since we talked quite a bit about traveling last night. Of course we can stay for however long you want, there’s definitely no shortage of places to explore around Unova in the meantime. You just let me know whenever you’re feeling up for taking a little break.” A soft smile crossed her face at the last bit, deep blue eyes glancing back and forth between the menu in her hands and her dark-haired companion, pondering over what she wanted to eat while she patiently waited for the other’s input.】☆ ☆

Walking through the streets with her starter in hand, Kraven's body was blessedly uncomplaining with each step. Where before she'd mostly just put it out of her mind, focusing instead on her companion and continuing to move forward, today there was nothing nagging at her to sit down and stop. She was happy to report as such when Phee checked on her, laughing quietly at her "professional" advice. "Of course, of course. I'll be sure to come to Dr. Phoenix next time I feel a hole in the world opening up beneath me." She would hope that it wouldn't come to that, of course. She'd rather not make a habit of being dragged into another world, especially one as unwieldy as the Distortion World.
Before long they finally finished their journey, and judging by the smell radiating from behind their doors, the musician really was in for a treat. She followed the redhead just a little longer before a waiter took up that task, setting them down at a nice little spot outside. "Nah, this'll do us just fine. I kinda prefer sitting out like this anyway," Kraven reported, listening to Klaus as he mused about the food they were about to eat. She had already begun looking over the menu, mulling over what she wanted before Phee spoke up again, pulling her attention back to the subject of travel. "Me? Well, I'd kinda just planned to stay until I'd done all the gyms in the region. But now that we've gotten talking about traveling all about... I guess I wouldn't mind making a detour after another gym or two." She set her menu down to look at Phoenix, returning the smile.

☆ ☆【Phoenix gave a light laugh at Kraven’s remark, glad to see her friend in much higher spirits and feeling so much better after all of what had happened yesterday. ”I take both appointments and house calls~” she returned with a smirk, which gave way to a much gentler smile, ”But still, if you don’t feel too well at any point while we’re out and about today please let me know. I’d be glad to give you any support you might need.” Between any sandstorms that might stir up and the harsh desert heat, they’d definitely be out in some pretty harsh conditions for a good portion of the day. Still, as long as they kept themselves hydrated and found places to be able to shade themselves so they weren’t baking the whole time it should be fine, right? Still, Phoenix’s mind worked away while they walked to the bistro, trying to plan for any potential worst case scenario that could come up and making sure they could get to the nearest city quickly in case of an emergency.

Even just seeing how full the interior was made her feel claustrophobic and suffocated from looking at it… Seating themselves and looking over their menus, save for Klaus who was much more interested in the specials, Phoenix popped the question of how much longer her friend was interested in sticking around in Unova before they might put their plans to travel into action. She hummed thoughtfully at Kraven’s answer, tapping a finger against the menu in her hand. ”Well I’m sure we’ll get around to all of the gyms here in due time, and I imagine if we’re planning to take on gyms and do more training during our travels we’ll be able to prepare ourselves for the more difficult ones here when we come back,” she suggested, lifting her eyes to look towards her companion and gave a soft smile, ”Hitting one more gym or two before heading off sounds good to me, you just have to say the word. You’re the boss, after all, boss.” A soft chuckle left her lips as she gave a playful wink as she placed her own menu down, seeming to have made up her mind on what she wanted to order. And sure enough only moments later, the blonde waiter from before approached their table with a warm smile in spite of how tired he looked from all the running around he was likely doing to keep up with all the customers inside.
”Ready to place your orders?”he asked, pulling out his notepad and clicking his pen as he looked curiously between them. ”Ah, um… A full stack of the strawberry crème pancakes with scrambled eggs, bacon and green tea to drink. With lemon and honey, please,” the redhead said, never really much of a coffee person.”Mmmm, I’d like the steak and eggs special, please,”Klaus chipped in as he slid his own menu over to the waiter,”Cooked medium rare, eggs sunny side up with rye toast. And a cappuccino, with extra cinnamon~”The waiter gave a nod and a smile as he jotted down both the Zoroark and Phoenix’s orders, before finally turning to Kraven.”And for you, miss?”
Once everyone had input their requests, the blonde haired man gathered up their menus and quickly vanished back inside. Leaning back a bit in his chair, Klaus slung an arm over the back of it as he looked out towards the streets, watching the people walking by with a curious eye. ”Out of curiosity, besides all the traveling, was there anything else in particular you chose to go on this journey for?” Phoenix inquired, glancing curiously towards Kraven as she rested her arms on the table. ”I know you mentioned looking into checking out the Rangers before, well… things happened. Have you considered possibly challenging the league? Or is there maybe… something else you had in mind?” From the redhead’s understanding during her time working at the daycare, most everyone who came through was on a Pokemon journey for one reason or another. Wanting to try their hand at the league to become Champion was among the most common goals, though from the sounds of it Alder still remained undefeated regardless of how many potential challengers stepped up to claim the title. Some people simply wanted to grow as a trainer and deepen their bonds with their Pokemon, and occasionally a few didn’t really have any particular reason and just wanted to go on a journey for the sake of exploring the world.
Not that there was anything wrong with not having any particular goals in mind, Phoenix was on her own journey for the sake of just wanting to see what the world had to offer after all. She wasn’t particularly interested in challenging the league at all, in fact she could comfortably live out the rest of her life without having the title of Champion to her name and all the unwanted attention that came with it. Maybe Kraven was the same? Kraven couldn't help but laugh a bit at her companion leaning into the image of a physician, but the sentiment was appreciated none the less. "Of course. Acting tough won't do either of us any good if I make something worse. I'll try to pace myself today." Perhaps it could be worth catching something they could more readily use for transport, without the need to take to the skies. Much as they weren't likely to stick around long enough to get into trouble, it'd be useful to have something that could taxi them around when they've got such a large amount of ground to cover. Perhaps there'd be a pokemon like that while they were in the desert? If not, then it might be something to consider when they diverge to another region...
Regardless of their musings, their attention turned as soon as they reached the busy bistro, the warm scents from a running kitchen reminding the raven-haired trainer of her appetite. She'd already had a loose idea of what she'd wanted before coming in, so once they sat down she'd really only needed to scan the menu to make sure they'd serve it. Not that she was opposed to giving any specialties a try, but before she got to give them much consideration, Phee chimed in once again. "Exactly. Honestly depending on how quickly we can get trained up for the next gym, it might even be worth jumping over to visit the other regions right afterwards." Hardly the most original plan, but given how early they still were there wasn't quite as much experience under their belt. Much as it might feel like goofing off, as long as they were growing their team it'd turn out fine. She snickered a bit at being called "boss", shaking her head a little with a smile. "I wasn't aware I was the captain of our little ship. You sure you're fine being under me?" Not that it would much matter. They were already on roughly the same page, and plotted out their next course together. She felt like less of a boss and more a co-pilot.
While they spoke the waiter finally returned to their table, now ready to take their orders one by one. While Phee and Klaus made themselves clear, Kraven took one more look over her menu, double checking her order before handing it to the waiter. "A lot of what she's having, it sounds like. Some regular pancakes, a large serving of scrambled eggs, and some water to drink... I guess I'll get some bacon too, on the side." It was hard to go wrong with the classics, if nothing else.
With their food ordered and the waiter gone, discussions resumed once more, with Phee asking yet more questions about Kraven's plans. It... took a moment for the young woman to form an answer, looking away thoughtfully out towards the city. "...Not really, I guess. It would be pretty cool to take that champion spot, but I don't think I'm cut out for it just quite yet." She let out a quiet hum, considering her words even after her mouth moved to speak. "I didn't have anything special in mind. Just figured it'd be a good way to start fresh."

☆ ☆【Having arrived at the small, cozy looking bistro and the waiter helping them secure a nice airy spot outside, Phoenix glanced over the menu only briefly since she already had a good idea of what she wanted. Klaus, on the other hand, hardly even touched his own as he seemed more interested in the specials, while pancakes certainly sounded good he was feeling something a bit more meaty and fulfilling. Plus he could always just swipe a few pieces of his trainer’s to scratch that sweet tooth itch. Leaning back casually and getting comfortable in his seat, he cast his gaze out towards the crowds milling about on the streets nearby though his ears stayed tuned to the two trainers as they made small talk. Phoenix nodded in agreement with Kraven’s comment, humming under her breath. ”Certainly, plus challenging gyms in other regions would definitely help give us more opportunities to train up some of our Pokemon who’d really need it the most,” she suggested, knowing full well she had at least a few with her that still needed to get some more experience in, ”No harm in having a bit of fun on the side as long as we’re helping our teams grow stronger along the way, right?” After all, it wouldn’t really be much of a good journey if they didn’t take some time off to just enjoy themselves every so often, right? Tanabata felt like it was a long while ago by now, and who knows how long it might be for them to actually have the opportunity to go to such an event like that again.
Kraven seemed amused at the sentiment of being called ‘boss’, remarking that she hadn’t known she was the captain of their little adventuring party. ”Aha, well I suppose in this case we’d be more like co-captains, but if we were to hypothetically have a leader you’d certainly have my vote, Kraven~” the redhead chipped in with a light laugh, ”You certainly seem more cut out for it than me.” Klaus tore his eyes away from his people watching for a moment, tilting his head a bit as he flashed his best charming smile.”Oh? And I suppose I’m just out of the running as a candidate, then?”he spoke up, his smirk widening at the disapproving look that crossed Phoenix’s face as she shook her head. ”I think ‘class clown’ would be a far more fitting title for you. The only thing you’d ever lead us to would be more trouble,” she retorted, ”There’s a reason I can’t take you to most of the arcades in Nimbasa, and I’m sure you know exactly why.” The Zoroark snorted as he waved it off casually, still keeping that dumb smirk on his muzzle as he crossed his legs under the table.”Most of those games are rigged anyways, I hardly see anything wrong with making them a bit more 'fair' in that case,”he simply said with a shrug and a devilish snicker.
Before Phoenix could think to get out a comeback, their waiter finally returned to get their orders as he wrote them down one by one. Having come here quite a few times before, she and Klaus input their requests without missing a beat while Kraven took a moment to check over the menu again before giving hers too. After the waiter collected their menus and jetted off back inside to hand off their orders to the kitchen, the redhead’s focus went back towards her friend as she asked a bit more about what the other was planning to accomplish during her journey or if she even had any particular goals in mind apart from wanting to travel. It took a bit for Kraven to think about her answer, not that Phoenix minded as she closed her eyes for a moment, breathing in the cool morning air as a light breeze playfully blew her long fiery hair about a little. Opening them again as the dark-haired musician spoke up, the redhead listened as Kraven said she didn’t really have anything specific in mind. She tilted her head a bit, curious as to what her companion meant by saying she wasn’t ‘cut out’ for taking the champion spot yet.
”Well, there’s definitely more than enough time to think over if you might want to try becoming the Champion or not between now and when we get our final badges,” she suggested lightly with a gentle smile, ”To be honest I’m not particularly interested in going for the league myself, all that fame and attention is hardly what I’d want out of all this. But if you by chance want to try taking a stab at it, I’d gladly cheer you on all the way.” Klaus hummed quietly in agreement, glancing back over towards the pair as he grinned and gave a thumbs up. Phoenix listened as Kraven went on to say that she hadn’t started her journey with any particular goals in mind, and that she’d figured it would be a nice way to get a fresh start. ”Well, sometimes that’s really all you need, right?” she said with a shrug, ”There’s nothing wrong with not having any particular goals in mind, you can always think of small things you could try to accomplish for yourself along the way. Like exploring and getting a feel for new places and experiencing new things in general.” The redhead raised a hand and thoughtfully rested her chin in her palm. ”I didn’t really have any big, major goals in mind either when I set off on my journey. Though Kraven wasn't quite as eager to jump ship from the region she chosen to start her journey in as Phoenix seemed to be, the benefit of tackling a more interesting challenge than chipping away at an area's wild pokemon popultaion was too enticing to pass up. "Mhm. I was just thinking the same thing, actually," she nodded, satisfied at least that they were on the same page. Who knows, perhaps they might even find something fun to do while they're out and about. If there was gonna be a smaller event like the Tanabata, they'd have an easier time hearing about if they end up near whatever local festivals are going on.
The comment calling her "boss" amused Kraven, though. It wasn't something she was used to hearing outside of a job, let alone being directed at her. The redhead's confidence was reassuring though, even if Klaus' apparent blacklisting from a certain city's entertainment venues. "Oh? Sounds like you've got a few blemishes on your resume there, Klaus. You'll hardly get a promotion by snatching prizes out of a crane game for us." Much as she wanted to hear about whatever antics got the Zoroark barred from the arcades, a part of her had a sneaking suspicion that she'd find out firsthand before too long. That smirk of his was bound to get them into more trouble than they'd bargain for. "Still, I don't mind holding the reigns as it were. Just feels a little strange is all, like it's some mafia title. Guess I can see why the hotel manager liked his job, at least," she chuckled, before turning her attention to the waiter as he arrived.
Though conversation paused briefly as they each placed their order, things picked up hardly before his back was turned. The topic of a larger goal seemed to give Kraven pause, dismissing the prospects of becoming champion for the time being. "Are you sure? I'd have thought you'd enjoy putting the title on your trainer card and throwing on one of those big, heavy capes," she teased, remembering that at least some of the regions did seem to have some special attire for the people up top. "But I'll keep that in mind. If the odds look a little better for this top spot, I might give it a shot."
Phee's understanding at the lack of direction was certainly reassuring, doing well to articulate what was a shared sentiment. "Well, you're already off to a great start on that department, it seems," Kraven reaffirms, glancing briefly over to Klaus as she thinks on their discussions from the night before. "And I'll do my best to help you find a few other you can talk with just as freely." She returned the smile she saw on the redhead's face, before leaning back in her chair some to reach into her bag. Digging a little, she started to pull out a set of maps, bound in hard leather cases which split down the middle. "They're not the most detailed things, but if you want you can go over our routes for the places we plan to visit. I've got a map for anywhere that isn't Galar or Alola, for the most part." She set a couple of the maps onto the table between them, the name of each region scrawled across the sides in faded ink. Could be a nice way to wait for their food, she figured.

☆ ☆【Phoenix couldn’t help but smirk in amusement at Kraven’s remarks to Klaus regarding his apparent infamous antics when it came to Nimbasa’s arcades. To this day the redhead had no idea how he got up to the crazy and possibly borderline illegal stunts he often got up to in those kinds of places, or how he was even capable of doing such things in the first place. He never gave any direct answers, often just saying how ‘it was only fair’ or remarking about how arcades just promoted underage gambling. ”If only you knew the half of it, Kraven,” she muttered as Klaus simply shrugged off the comments as he gave their dark-haired friend an amused grin.”Oh? Not even if I offer you some cute new plushies of your favorite Pokemon from said crane game as compensation?”he asked, tilting his head as he flashed Kraven with his best puppy-dog eyes look for a moment before chuckling,”But hey, I’m at least pretty discreet about it. Usually~”Phoenix rolled her eyes at that, making a note to make Klaus wait outside or stay in his Pokeball in case they decided to check out any of the arcades in Nimbasa when they got there. The last thing she wanted was to get their new friend in trouble because the cheeky Zoroark wanted to get up to some shenanigans. As much as she loved him like a little brother, sometimes he was far more trouble than he was worth. The redhead’s gaze ventured back over to Kraven as the musician said she didn’t mind playing the role of leader, though it did feel a bit odd to her. ”Aha, well I mean you don’t really have to, it was mostly just a suggestion,” she chipped in with a sheepish grin, ”Though I think it’d be a bit more like, uh… leading an adventuring party, like in an RPG game.”
Klaus laughed a bit at the suggestion, ears perked as he offered a playful grin.”Or perhaps the captain of a team of crime-fighting vigilantes,”he tossed in his two cents with a grin, especially since it seemed like Kraven had a bit of a penchant for fisticuffs. They were still learning more about their new friend, but based on what he’d seen and heard Klaus wouldn’t put it past the dark-haired musician to be the type who might’ve had a vested interest in martial arts at some point. He should make a note to not get on her bad side in that case, then…

Phoenix had expected her friend’s answer of not really having any particular major goals in mind when the question of why she was on this journey came up, though it did surprise her a bit at how much they seemed to share in common. Of course the dark-haired musician was still largely undecided on if she wanted to challenge the league or not, but the redhead assured that if she did want to try her hand on it she’d gladly support her all the way. She gave a light laugh at Kraven’s light teasing when she mentioned not being interested in the champion title herself. ”Oh goodness, no!” she shook her head at the idea of having the champion title to her name and a huge, garish cape around her shoulders, ”If I wanted to draw that much attention to myself I could just wear one of those enormous bedazzled dresses instead. That’d surely be just as flashy and ridiculous.” And frankly if she was to hypothetically have that kind of title, she’d probably go down in history as the most reclusive champion in existence. She’d much rather never leave her house ever again than draw in crowds of admiring strangers and trainers hoping to battle her everywhere she went.
Still, she offered a supportive smile and a nod as Kraven said she might consider shooting for the top spot if the odds seem better for the Unova league. ”I think you’d definitely give Alder a good challenge if you do,” she suggested, ”Who knows, maybe we might actually run into him some time. He’s usually out and about wandering around Unova when he’s not challenging trainers at the league.” Moving on from there, Kraven seemed assured that Phoenix understood and shared the sentiment regarding not having any particularly solid directions or goals to go for along this journey, at least apart from the whole ‘making friends’ kind of deal on the redhead’s part. She smiled with a sort of timid pride at her friend’s affirmation that she was starting off pretty well as far as that whole thing went, and assuring that she’d do her best to help her make a few more friends who she could feel comfortable talking to. Klaus hummed and nodded upon catching Kraven’s eye, chuckling softly as he rested an elbow on the table.”Just keep in mind she’s still a bit skittish with actually confronting strangers, so she might try to hide behind you when you try to introduce her to someone,”he warned, the light tone of his voice contrasting with the more serious look in his eyes. ”How dare you out me like that, Klaus,” Phoenix accused, flashing the Zoroark a mock look of betrayal and her lips pushed out in a pout.
The Dark-type simply laughed and grinned with a casual shrug.”Well you can’t expect to be a wallflower like usual if you really want to make friends now, right Phee-bee?”he returned,”You can’t hide out in the corner forever since someone will surely notice you at some point. Besides, Kraven and I will be there on standby to help if you ever need it. You were able to make a new friend well enough on your own for the most part, right? So surely doing it again won’t be that hard.”As much as Phoenix would’ve argued, Klaus did have a point. She’d been able to become comfortable enough talking to Kraven on her own without much need for the Zoroark’s help, but not everyone they’d meet would be like their new friend. She was still very uncertain about meeting more strangers, but having both Klaus and Kraven there for support made her feel a bit better about the prospect… Speaking of, she curiously watched as the other pulled out a set of what looked like maps, the old but fancy-looking types that were bound in leather. Phoenix tilted her head curiously, nodding at the suggestion of going over their routes for the places they planned on visiting in the near future. ”Interesting… I didn’t think you were the type who collected maps too,” she said, looking at the few that Kraven had placed on the table for them to look at, ”How much research did you do on these regions before you left Kalos?”
It was apparent that the dark-haired musician had done a fair bit of research at least, though Phoenix had to wonder how much she actually knew about a lot of the other regions out there. Reaching out, the redhead picked up the map labeled ‘Kalos’ and carefully opened it, placing it on the table so everyone could see it. As she did that, her attention was drawn to the waiter as he brought their drinks over, nodding and giving him a polite ‘Thank you’ before he was gone once more. Grabbing his cappuccino and lapping at the mountain of whipped cream on top threatening to spill down the sides of the glass, Klaus leaned in a bit closer for a better look at the map as well. Phoenix’s eyes sparkled with wonder as she looked over the map like a child reading a book of fairytales, looking over the names of the different locations with careful consideration as she picked up the decorative mug and took a sip of her pleasantly sweet and lemony green tea. ”I’ve heard a lot of nice things about Kalos, especially how beautiful the countryside is… Though I’m not all that familiar with a lot of the names or where the gyms are in general,” she admitted, her eyes looking up towards Kraven for a moment then back at the map, ”Any place in particular you’d feel it would be best for us to start from? I know you’ve mentioned a couple of the gyms there the other day, maybe we could start from where the first one is and go from there.”
Of course, true to form Lumiose was there smack-dab in the middle of the map, though Phoenix was more interested in the areas around it. Quite a few names of certain landmarks caught her eye, Parfum Palace, Reflection Cave, Pokeball Factory, Lost Hotel… Their depictions on the map gave a bit of detail of what they were and a general idea of what they looked like, though a picture on a map surely wouldn’t hold a candle to actually seeing these places in person. The redhead let her imagination run rampant as she studied the map, her mind spinning with all kinds of possibilities of interesting places to visit in between gym battles. Given that she knew so much more about the region in general, she was sure Kraven had some ideas of where she’d like to go too. She would occasionally glance up towards her dark-haired friend, curious as to what she thought and eagerly listening for any suggestions or opinions the other might want to pitch in while they were planning things out.】☆ ☆

The redhead's muttering didn't do much to alleviate the growing history of mischief that surrounded Klaus, nor did the Zoroark's proposition for the metaphorical promotion. "That's not exactly a vote of confidence, you know... Besides, there's never been a plush in one of those that I couldn't just buy a better one of from a store somewhere. Much more above-board than a bit of skulduggery." She wanted to at least believe that the dark-type wouldn't go so far as to go about pilfering machines in full-view of anyone who might object to the process. Or, for that matter, a figure who might be inclined to police the laws against doing just that. Regardless, once Phee chimed in again, they got back to the logistics of their little party. "I suppose that's certainly one way to look at it. Though usually in those RPGs the 'boss' is the one you end up fighting, not partying up with," she pointed out, her mind briefly drifting towards that sort of imagery.
Before she could dwell too much on the idea of the kind of extravagant (or lacking) attire that would invoke, Klaus took things a little closer to reality, leaning more towards street justice over fantasy. "Well, I don't know about that. Most of that sort of thing would have us skulking around in alleys instead of traveling abroad," Kraven gestured with her hand, twirling a finger in the air. "Plus, anyone looking to cause trouble isn't just gonna stand in the street waiting to get laid out."
By the time the waiter arrived, discussion had already begun to turn, pausing only long enough for him to take their orders and be on his way before they hopped to the next subject. They entertained the idea of becoming champion, interested or otherwise, with the musician even teasing her companion with the prospects of wearing a cape big enough to probably use as a blanket. "Well we won't know until we get you in one, now will we? If we're going to Kalos, it'll sure as hell be the place to find something bold and garish to wear." Not that she really expected Phoenix to go through with that--on some level, Kraven couldn't help but feel like she was the kind of person that'd burst into flames if she wore anything that so much as exposed her shoulders. Even if she could convince her to throw it on, getting her to come out of any sort of dressing room would've been an even taller task.
The mention of Unova's wandering champion did pique the raven-haired trainer's interest a bit, but didn't stop to linger on it before they returned to the ever monumental task of rounding up some friends for Phoenix. Kraven couldn't help but chuckle at how pointedly Klaus calls out his trainer, as well as Phee's inability to retort about it. "Don't worry, that just means I'll have to hold her in front of me when I do it~ I'm confident I can keep her front and center." She turned from the Zoroark to the redhead as she spoke, smiling in a manner that blurs the line between teasing and threatening. One way or another though, Klaus seemed to have a handle on convincing his trainer, so she quietly stepped out of the conversation to retrieve their next topic.
"Not too much," was her answer, setting down the map for Unova last--Phee probably didn't need it, but she figured she might as well put them all down. "Most of these I've just had for a while, I didn't really plan on using them for anything more than something to look at until I got ready to go." Despite her words, the map of Kalos was rather detailed, with a glut of small notes and little mentions of areas that were overlooked. The names of certain pokemon were crawled between routes, with some of the towns having faded numbers drawn over their centers. Seeing Phoenix practically light up as she combed through the map made the former fighter laugh a little, as she moved her glass of water away from the center of the table.
"Well, Santalune here is where that first gym will be," she rises a little from her seat to better lean across the table, almost standing to reach across and the cities south of Lumiose marked with the "1". "Smacking Viola is probably the best place to start. From what I hear Aquacorde and Vaniville are pretty scenic but there's no real reason to go if you don't need your starter or live out there." Her finger runs softly over the surface, sliding over towards the road that branches out from Camphrier. "This is the place I was talking about before, Parfum Palace. From what I understand, the some of the statues out in the garden are actually something significant from Unova..." Her voice trailed off a bit as she tried to direct her companion's attention to the general routing of the region's gym challenge. She followed the numbers and explained some of the land routes that they'd likely miss by flying from point to point. She'd pause and answer whatever questions the redhead might've had along the way, though none seemed to spark her desire to pin it down as a must-visit.
