Taking the direction her brother pointed, Miyuki explained.
"And you both haven't been around town that much, so most people haven't met you. Fire elves are friendly, but they can be suspicious of outsiders. Though I suppose that would vary from country to country. This is the first country of fire elves we've been to."

"They were friendly enough when we were asking for directions," Shoneah murmured, following after Miyuki and Andarien. "The other cities we passed through, they were friendly, too ... I think they were happy that we weren't looking to stay in any of them."
She smiled. "In Wolsic we were met by a group of hunters. They were nice, they took good care of us. Their wives didn't seem happy to see us, but the men were quite helpful."

Miyuki nodded, "If you stay it's a bit different. I mean they're still friendly, but there's always that wariness I find."
Though she had to kind of smile a bit at Shoneah's comments about the wives.
"Huh... interesting," Miyuki murmured, "We haven't really been to that many countries despite being far away from Caras Galadhon. Amir, my cousin was found in the ruins of a village that was attacked, so we had to hurry here to get help for him."

"Ah, so he's not your cousin by blood," Shoneah nodded. "I see. I wondered why he didn't look a thing like your aunt and uncle."
It seemed adoption was quite common for the family she'd stumbled into. It was quite the concept for her, and she was getting used to it. She was even starting to appreciate it a bit. After all, if Daeron and Iorlas hadn't taken the boy in, what would have become of him?
"Here we are," Andarien said as they approached a red-rock building with a crossed sword and staff engraved over the doorway.

It was one of the things Miyuki appreciated about this world, often the signs gave way to what the shop was, making it easier to spot.
"So we are," Miyuki replied as she opened in the door for everyone, "Let's take a look then."

Shoneah entered the shop and looked around. It was manned by a teenage girl, who was behind a counter caring for a sword. The shop had a number of weapons in it, each wall carrying a different type of weapon: one wall had projectile weapons like slings, bows, and crossbows; another wall had bladed weapons, like swords and daggers; a third wall had blunt instruments like clubs, maces, and blackjacks; and the fourth wall had what were usually considered more casual weapons, or weapons for those who had no intention of fighting or hunting: staffs and axes, things with more uses than just fighting.
"Good morning," the girl behind the counter greeted the group politely. "Is there anything I can help you with today?"

Miyuki turned and smiled back, "Yes please, Silverbirch."
Miyuki motioned to where Shoneah was.
"Needs a better bow, and Eron," Miyuki motioned to the man beside her, "Needs a staff, preferably made from metal."

"This bow is in fine condition," Shoneah added quickly, holding up the bow to show it to the girl, "it's just not suited for me, so if possible I'd like to trade it in."
The girl stepped out from behind the counter and held her hands out to Shoneah. "Let me take a look at the bow and see if I can give you any trade value for it," she said in a very businesslike manner. Taking the bow, she nodded towards the wall with staffs and the like. "Go ahead and take a look. I'm afraid we haven't much by way of metal staffs, though."

Miyuki blinked and looked at Eron, "Do you both..."
Eron leaned over, "We had a run in with a baby dragon on our arrival and apparently dragon's blood-"
"Grants the gift of languages," Miyuki finished, "We got to know some nice dragons who offered. You're very lucky to be alive."
"We were told it was a baby dragon," Eron shrugged.
The kitsune nodded, she supposed it would be only a bit less dangerous than than a youth dragon. Taking Eron's arm, Miyuki led him to the rack where the staffs are kept.
"If we can't find one for you, we'll have to commission it," Miyuki told him, "I want to take as much advantage of your magic as possible. I'm sure you can learn staff, but..."
"I'm not so sure about that...." Eron trailed off.
"You can," Miyuki said firmly, "It just takes practice, and a lot of it."

"You're lucky Mi's old staff teacher isn't here," said Andarien, coming into the shop a bit after the others because he had to recall Ponydash before coming in, but in time to hear half of the conversation. "She'd whack you over the head for a comment like that."
He had his hands in his pockets, and he was trying his best not to look around at the weapons. He had enough reminders of things he couldn't do, he didn't need any more of them.

"She would," Miyuki agreed.
Eron nodded but was distracted by Andarien, because it was hard not to notice how he didn't like being in there even though they weren't in there for him. Now, Eron had gotten to know Andarien well enough to know he didn't like the martial arts because it gave him so much trouble (or maybe because it was just hard). However, that disliked seemed to spread to the point where it seemed like he couldn't walk into a weapon's shop without not liking it.
"I'm not sure what to look for," Eron admitted to Miyuki, "Could you..."
"Sure," Miyuki agreed, "I'll be right back."
Once Miyuki's attention was somewhere else, Eron looked over to Andarien.
"Are you alright?"

Andarien looked at Eron, confusion etched in his features.
"Of course I'm all right," he replied, puzzled by the question. "Why wouldn't I be?"
Of course, he understood the question only in the physical sense - he hadn't been hurt or run into anything, so of course he was all right.

"You don't seem very happy to be in here," Eron explained, "I know physically you're alright, but I don't what you're feeling."
Anderian, he noticed wasn't good with questions that asked about feelings or emotions. Sometimes he wouldn't think about talking about it, and other times he had trouble talking about it.

Andarien shrugged. Eron was right, he wasn't happy to be in there. But whining about it wouldn't make anyone happy, and it wouldn't fix anything, so he had learned to more or less keep it to himself.
"You need to be here," he said vaguely, without addressing how he was feeling about it.
It was necessity that brought him in here, nothing more, and when they were done he would be happy to leave.
The end.

Eron wished he had taken something in child psychology, but if fishes were wishes then everyone would get what they wanted. Still, he had to at least try to get Andarien to talk about his feelings a bit more. Practice made perfect.
"I know, but it doesn't seem to make you happy to be here. May I ask why?"
He looked curious, and he was because it would help him understand more.
