Another attempted ended in failure. Cylu growled in frustration as she spotted yet another shard and approached it carefully... she had stubbornly decided that this one would not escape so easily.

Cylu gripped the shard in her palm and grinned as she felt its warmth radiate through her arm.
"... Ricklee died while you were at school..."
There was that disembodied voice again. Cylu shrugged off the odd experience, wondering if this would happen every time she got a hold of one. A glint caught her eye and she lunged after another fragment.

As expected, Cylu heard another disembodied voice as she added the shard to her collection.
"... not coming home..."
Hm. She briefly wondered whether or not these strange phrases had any meaning as she continued the hunt. Only two more fragments to go...

Cylu grabbed hold of another one with a victorious grin, ignoring the voice which whispered something about irresponsible nannies. This 'hunt' had become too easy. Perhaps if she simply extended her hand and waited another shard would just float into her palm...

Nope. Well, it was worth a try. Cylu spotted a shard just a little out of reach above her head. She waited patiently as it drifted closer, waiting for the perfect moment to leap up and snatch it out of the air.

Failure. Cylu scolded herself as she missed the shard. She leaped again in quick succession as if refusing to give up just yet.

Linithid stepped through into the Spire, blinking a little at what she could see when she entered. The place looked....sharp and foreboding, though she can't say what else she would have expected. Other people scurried to and fro, and she couldn't be sure what they were doing at first until someone picked up a small, glowing sphere and stared at it rather intently. Perhaps they were important? At the very least, it seemed like she should try and get at least one of her own. Plus...it was rather shiny...

The fragment disappeared from sight and Cylu cursed under her breath. She was so close... so close. She folded her arms and just stood there to scowl at anything and everything. It wasn't long before she noticed a shard glinting in her peripheral and she instantly struck out to catch it in her fist.

She thought she might have grabbed it but it seemed to turn into a puff of smoke as she reached for it. Pursing her lips she stalked another one, determined to get one this time.

Failure. Again. And it was so easy at first... what happened? She tried to soothe herself by pacing in a circle. She only needed one more to be complete, one more. Cylu spotted one hovering near a boulder, and she stalked it carefully, as if any sudden movement would frighten it away...

She grinned a moment as she grasped the fragment firmly in her hands, and clear as day a voice rang out but not from around her. "Poor excuse, girl..." It was an odd sort of thing to hear, she was sure, but she simply pocketed the fragment and wandered off to see if she could find any more of them around.

Finally. Cylu added the final shard to her collection and she admired it briefly before wandering towards the shrine. The distant voice spoke again. "Find mother." The disconnected words and phrases didn't seem to have any pattern to them at all. Cylu wondered if this would be explained to her when she reached the shrine.

The second fragment was much easier to grab than the first one, she was kind of pleased with herself for that. Either she was getting better or lucky, she wasn't terribly picky about which it was. Again a voice rang out as she held the fragment in her hands. "The child's crazy!" She tilted her head for a moment before shrugging and trying to find another fragment if she could, trying hard not to run into anyone else or take one they were after.

Like the first one, it disappeared into thin air as well, leaving her grasping at nothing. Ah well, if it were easy it would hardly be worth the effort, or something. She moved on to the next one she saw, glittering behind a bit of rock.
