"Well, Master Kazuko was kinda old when I met her... but she was still better than anyone else! She was amazing! I guess... this Anei person must be the same? So, see, it doesn't matter how old someone is, they can still be powerful and skilled, like her!" Lumine pointed out the window, at the elder Yao who had found herself a nice bench to sit on, next to Maemi's older brother. "Did you see that bow she used? It's huge! And the string looks like it's made outta steel!"
Lumine stumbled as the hammers struck, and she knelt by the window. "Wow, what was that sound...?!" She turned to look at Michiko and her children, and noticed their distress. Well, that simply wouldn't do! She went over and knelt by them as well, setting the sword down at her knee. "Hey, don't worry guys! You've got the best and coolest people in this room to protect you, see?" She grinned brightly, reaching to pet their heads.
---
Junichi was happy to see his companion land safely near him. He gave Kage a thumbs up and let the water carry the both of them through the wall of the Tengu Village. The river would lead to a small waterfall, but a quick grasp at the riverbank lead to Junichi finding a handhold in an overgrown tree root. Still submerged in the current, yet stable thanks to the root, he reached out a hand to grasp for Kage, uncertain if she had found other means of escape from the waterfall's drop.

"Looks like the Jurous just destroyed a mill," Hanari responded, while the two puppies huddled between both youkai,"I think the assassins got away. They will have to give up the chase if they causing collateral damage so carelessly."
___
Kage caught his arm, pulling herself closer to grasp at another root. Now secure she looked above them. Two winged figures floated above.
The mirumoto siblings, lookee about, till the white winged Taisei joined them. "we have scared them off, for now that will do. Enough damage has been passed onto our home, " She would tell them," Let's return to the Watiso Manor...."
The two nodded and all of them left the scene.
Kage slowly raised above the surface, then pulled Junichi up as well.

"Good! They're scaring poor Yuki and Kuro to death!" Lumine said, continuing to pet their heads. She stood up and went back to the window. Everything seemed silent now...
"Hey... I'll go check to see what's going on. You guys stay here, okay?" She went over to the door and slowly opened it, poking her head out. It looked like a few of the Elites were returning now.
---
Junichi gladly took Kage's help and clawed his way onto the the bank of the river. It seemed the Elite dogs had stopped chasing them, as he had expected; anything outside the Tengu Village was out of their immediate jurisdiction! They'd have to go through the proper channels with the other mountain folk before engaging a manhunt, and by then, both he and his partner would be long gone, safe in the walls of their covenant.
"Nice save, lass." Juni patted Kage's shoulder and stood up, trying to ignore the fact his garb was soaked thoroughly. "We've given them the slip, so let's get outta here while we can, yeah?"

The elite where in a fury of emotion. a few phrases here and there could be heard. this continued till all of them had gathered, and Yao-dono had stood. "It is fine, we will fix the mill, our selves, regain the trust of the ones we harmed through labor,.... and we will double security. This problem is beyond us, and until the Black Wolf's head is on my desk, we will not rest a day." There was ushered grumbles and nods, collective agreement. 'This meeting is adjourned till we meet again upon the previously scheduled days." Her wings vanished and she proceeded to leave with her granddaughter in close follow.
___ Kage climbed onto the river bank, and before Junichi could see anything, she realigned hood and mask. She was on her knees and palms, panting behind her mask, silently heaving. As she was patted she nodded, stood, and guided back home, dead quiet as usual.
:....Oh yeah, and she was all torn. Duh. She got ravaged by Mirumoto and the arrows from both Yao's.

Lumine watched as the members of the Elite and Council rejoined and finished their meeting. As they began to leave, Lumine returned inside, a smile on her face. "It's okay... the assassins are gone, and everyone's leaving." The information was more for the children's sake than anything else, as she was sure at least Hanari had watched the same thing unfold. "So everything's okay! We're all safe now! See, I'll prove it!"
Lumine opened the door fully and stepped outside. She looked around until she saw Rubuke and went up to her. "Ruby!" She waved to her, "What happened? I heard the old lady say they had escaped!"
---
Honestly, couldn't that woman say a single thing? An encouraging chuckle? Juni sighed, but followed his partner anyway. She had the better sense of direction. As they walked, he couldn't help but notice a number of wounds scattered across her body, not to mention the rather large bolt still protruding from the girl's shoulder. The Doctor will need to tend to that soon.
"Kage, I want you to visit the doctor as soon as we return. Your wounds are far greater, and will require the most attention. Alright? Kage?"

"Yeah, they did. ' Rubuke sighed, resheating the nodachi. 'The Jurou's wrecked a building and they got away in the debris. They fell into the river that leads out of the village, so they left our jurisdiction. I hear from Hidenka that we at least roughed up one of them. This won't do our name any good. We have to fix what the Jurou's broke and due useful stuff while they come back again." The pigeon sighed again crossing her arms.
___
Kage nodded. Trudging back to the safety of their own walls. Where they could find the witch doctor that tended to their wounds.

"So... you can only chase them when they're in the village?" Lumine asked, confused. "But that doesn't make any sense! No matter how many times you chase them away, they'll just keep coming back! Like foxes or coyotes... " She sighed, knowing that this kind of decision really didn't have anything to do with her. She was just a visitor, after all.
"Well... I'm glad you're all safe, anyway! Hopefully those assassins will get the message and stay away for a while!"
---
Once back at their hidden grounds, Junichi pulled back his hood and slipped off his mask, revealing a head of bright red hair with twitching ears that matched in color. His face was full of sweat, but he carried a cool demeanor with him anyway, especially in front of the few women.
"Damn it, I think I sprained my wrist. I'll go with you to the Doc," He said, following Kage. He knew he wouldn't get an answer, but damn it somebody needed to break this annoying silence. "That woman... really creeps me out."

"When the exile village was formed it wasn't because they were evil, but because the Imatou wanted to live away from what was usurped. It was like a small village, and so treaties were made, treaties we cannot break. We do not enter their land, while they are allowed to so in the determined garb...." Rubuke sighed," And so are the infinite flaws that our society is built upon."
"Well I hope the wounded one is enough to keep them outta battle for a bit."
----
Kage nodded to Junichi. She ...never removed her mask and hood. Only three people knew her face, and he was not one of them, despite their long work-partnership. She walked by him with ease, when many of the other tengu women would swoon upon his very presence. He was, after all, a direct descendant of the Kaninus clan, of the Black Wolf himself
They walked to the doctor's little house, a humble place dark and red inside. Kage looked around while Junichi called out the doctor.

"I guess... I understand," Lumine nodded in agreement. She admitted to herself that she knew very little when it came to politics, and when dealing with the deep-seated and nearly traditional affairs of the Tengu, it was best to stay out of it. Maemi taught her this; not to dissuade her, but of the importance of laws and tradition in Tengu society. It was Lumine herself who decided that she shouldn't interfere.
"Well... it was still great to see you again, Rubuke!" Lumine couldn't help but throw her arms around the taller woman again. "I'm glad that I could see you again... And, I know for certain that Maemi would be really, really proud of you. You almost look just like her!" She beamed, clasping the Tengu's hands and looking her up and down. "You look really cool!"
---
As they entered the house, Junichi called out to the Doctor in their obscure dialect. It was a dead language long since phased out by the Nobles of the Tengu Village, but the Exile kept its teachings. It was yet another small means of defiance of the Elite and Council, and also of reverence of the Old ways.
He paused to wait for a reply, then called out normally. "Doctor! Your services are needed," Junichi repeated, taking a seat in one of the chairs that made up the "office" part of the Doctor's home. "Quickly, I should add, lest your little pet bleed out on your floor. I don't think your employer or colleagues would take kindly to the matter~"

"Ah... well, I was fairly young when my sister passed away," Rubuke smiled as Lumine complimented her," I had a few years to grow, and so...... well. Here we are." She took and hugged Lumine once more," I am happy to hear that, I have worked hard to try and make her happy. Well, think I have anyway. Proud...."
She pulls back smiling," So, you met Michiko's family? Have you seen Ochiba? '
__ From the back came a tall woman. She wore red framed glasses, and a simple set of clothes, a norm around the exiles," Now, there is no need to call her pet." Her short hair was an almost white shade of purple, glistening gray in the right light. 'Kage, got in trouble again?" She tsk'd as the short tengu sat at the small medical table she had. Kage had to jump onto it, due to her short stature.
"Would you look at that. A Yao Bolt? have not seen these in ages," the woman muttered to herself.... it was obvious she herself was no tengu.

"Yeah I met them! But noo, I didn't get the chance yet!" Lumine's smile got wider, if that were even possible. "When I first came back to the village, I found Michiko in the library, and she told me that Ochiba worked with her and that I had just missed her... Oh, but that was just last night! Ochiba should be at the library now, right? I'd like to go see her... because I really miss her! Rubuke, will you come too?" She tugged lightly at the pigeon's hands, "Or... are you too busy?"
---
"Alright alright, sorry~" Juni mused, reclining a bit in his chair while he watched the Doctor work. As he mentioned to Kage, the woman gave him the creeps, and it wasn't because she wasn't a fellow Tengu. He wasn't even sure if she was human...
At the mention of the bolt, his attention was sparked. "That's right. We got a little too close to their meeting for their comfort..." He dropped his charismatic facade momentarily, adding, "We were hidden in shadow, at the predesignated lookout spot. Her movements were quick, and before I even realized her bow was drawn," he nodded to the arrow, "That nearly split my partner's arm in two. The sound that bow made... was incredible. Like a clap of thunder, it was, mixed with the hum of twisting steel..."

"Well, I have to take Samuro back home," Rubuke admitted, but she smiled," Once that is done, I will catch up with you. Then we can bring her to Michiko's or something, and have tea! fill you in on stuff and what not, sound good?" She was really happy to see her back.
__
The doctor worked to extract the bolt from Kage, who sat there, silent as always," That sounds like the eldest Yao. Her bow is extremely powerful, and one of a kind. She is surprisingly strong for her age because of the physical training just wielding that thing demanded." The bolt removed she handed it to Junichi (still covered in his partner's blood.) "Its about as ling as two thirds of my arm. Impressive isn't it?"

"Yeah!" Lumine smiled back, "That sounds great! In the meantime, I guess I'll go look for Ochiba... hehe, it'll be great to surprise her!" She paused, her smile waning, "Well... maybe I shouldn't surprise her toooo much... she is old after all! I wouldn't want to give her a heart attack... that would be really ironic." She laughed, then patted Rubuke's shoulder. "Alright then, go ahead and take your brother back. If I see Ochiba, I'll bring her back to Michiko's place! Don't forget, okay?"
---
Junichi took the arrow and inspected it closely. "Indeed it is! Such fine craftsmanship; just look at this tooling. It's disguised as decorative etching, but these marks help stabilize its trajectory. They must cost a fortune to make," He said, setting the arrow on the table beside him. He noticed the blood on his fingers and pressed them together, smearing it. "Anyway, how's the wound look? And her arm? Will there be any permanent damage or weakness? She's my partner, so I have to know of these things." He grinned, a bit of his charisma returning, "Need to know how much of a dead weight she'll be~"

"You got a deal," Rubuke smiled and turned," Come on Samuro let's get you home! I have stuff to do later!" With that, Ruby went to her brother's side, and together, they left the Watiso manor.
___
"No , there will be no permanent damage if she heals up right. We will just need to keep an eye on her," The doctor would respond, "Doctor Ein is not going to let the boss's precious Kage be lame!" Ein laughed and gave her a hearty pat."Mh.. looks like you could have some scrapes under the mask.."
She reached to take Kage's mask, but the tengu quickly flinched back and away from the intruding hand. "Oh... right... Sorry..." Ein sighed and stood straight," I will go fetch the slave, okay? we don't want things to get infected." She turned and left momentarily," I will be right back, Junichi."

Lumine waved after the two as they left, then returned to Michiko's mansion. "I guess it's all over," she announced after going inside. "The assassins escaped and... well, they had to call off the chase for legal reasons I guess. But they hurt one of them, so maybe they'll think twice about attacking any time soon!" She pumped a fist triumphantly, although this was more of a show for the kids. She didn't want them to be scared any longer!
---
Juni watched intently, hoping to catch a glimpse of Kage's face, but to no avail. Pity. He sighed and folded his arms, nodding to the good doctor as she left to fetch medicine. "Alright, don't keep us waiting~" He said with a smirk, reclining further into his chair.
He waited for a moment, until after Ein left. Strange woman indeed, even her name was strange. He shook the thought from his head.
"So, looks like we'll finally get to see what you're hiding under that faceless persona~" He teased, leaning his chin into the palm of his hand as he stared intently at Kage's featureless face. "When the doc comes back, she'll be treating your wounds, and I'm not going anywhere~"
