"What the..."

Okay, that proved it. She did have his same ability! Matt shook his head and focused again, still trying to melt the sand. That was the first step, just to get it to a workable state. A small smile formed on his face as he worked. It was kinda funny that somehow he knew the exact temperature to melt the stuff. He couldn't remember where he'd read it, but he remembered.

So it was that he kept on going, with full knowledge that yes, she would be trying to stop him from finishing...

Estrella was eating an apple and don't even ask where she had it. She took a bit at it and then threw it at Matt's head really hard. If it smacked him it would break his concentration once again and cause a lump. She looked at the woman who ran up to him. She kindof looked like Hunter. "Very well you may take your test Miss Emma." She then grinned at an idea. "Alright Emma. See that male there I want you to distract him and make sure he doesn't complete that vase." Oh things were about to get interesting. "You can do what ever you like." She smiled. She wanted to see how this would work out. She was testing Matt's self control in a situation like this as for Emma planning attacks and distractions to provoke an opponent.

Thump.

"Ow!" The sand fell back to normal as he rubbed the right side of his head. Okay, so she was going to distract him in more ways than that. Fine, he would just have to do something about that... without doing something about it. Because he didn't want to fight someone who could very well disintegrate him.

And then... he heard her say something else. Something that made him blanch just a little.

He'd almost forgotten that... Emma... had asked for a test as well. And now this teacher was going to pit them against each other in unorthodox fashion. Matt grinned. Okay, it wasn't in a phyiscal sense, but it was a fight. A challenge. A test of mettle!

He liked this.

"Okay, go for it." Matt looked toward Emma with a grin. "Be creative about it... just don't kill me. I'd like to get to my next class in one piece!" Throw in a joke too. Keep it light-hearted.

And then he started to heat the sand again. Hopefully he could turn it to glass before the first little distraction came along... that, or fight through it.

Oh snap!

Matt shut his eyes, and the glass he'd worked so hard to make turned into sand again! Shoot... dots swam in his vision, even with his peepers shut. So yeah, he'd be stunned, disoriented for a bit.

Then he started making glass again. Eyes closed. Couldn't stay that way forever, though. Had to look sooner or later, and Emma just had to make him look...

Matt opened one eye, just a little... and then both of them popped open as he saw his fire being completely negated! Well hell, what was he supposed to do now? It'd be just about impossible to make anything with those... things in the way!

Know what, just start over.

He closed his eyes again, just focusing on the fire and melting the sand. No need to hurt anyone here, just finish the test. She was really good at distracting him, though... but he wouldn't fall for the same trick twice!

Estrella was standing there watching now having an a pear in her hand. Just where in the hell was she getting this food. Well she did have a bag she always carried. She watched the two and held back a snicker. This was entertaining and maybe she should add into the fun. She was bored with the pear and she chucked it at Matt again aiming for the forehead as Emma went to cover his breathing area. She was planning to hit that spot that she hit earlier on his head. She then started to giggle. So childish they were acting. Emma was slowly getting the exercise but not quite. She then suddenly yelled,"Oh my god was that a dolphin! Oh my god it was!"

Emma saw that the sand was...somewhat starting to look like a vase...or something...it was still difficult to tell. Emma would rely on her strange talent for pain now and walked straight through the fire...she was expecting minor burns, but she didn't feel them. The one thing she wanted to avoid was her clothing setting on fire...too late to worry about it though, there was water right behind her though so she'd deal with that in a second. "It's not all that fun...trust me." Emma placed her hand on her hip and sighed...trying to distract him with the simple fact...that she was burning and unable to notice that she was burning. Thanks to her talent it didn't even hurt...a little recovery time and she'd be as good as new.

"Always could do something more...dramatic besides setting on fire...nah, I've still got one or two tricks left." Emma said before reverting to one of the most base distractions she knew from fighting...kicking up the sand in to Matt's face. This fire was starting to reach up to her face though so breathing had to be done very carefully. Despite this distraction being so base it would actually turn out to be the most effective if done correctly. "If all else fails then I could always attack you...maybe not beat you to near-death, but attacking you is something..." Emma said with a smirk while still obscuring his vision...she could tell if she did this at a fast enough rate she basically made a "wall" for him to burn instead of the vase itself.
