Yawn? It meant that the attack was gaseous in nature. The easiest way to deal with non-flammable gaseous attacks?(or in Melty's case, especially flammable) Burns them.
"Incinerate!" Henrietta said and Darumi regained his stance as he landed from his downward blow. The yawn came, but it never reached Darumi as he puffed up his chest and let loose the fire attack, destroying the yawn as the flames made their way toward Salem.

Salem tucked her head down and bent her legs in a ready stance. She was waiting for Salieri’s order and she knew what was coming next. Salieri was waiting for the flames to reach the point where they would block the Darumaka’s vision of Salem before giving her order.
It seemed the roar of the flames were too loud for the Yawn, but a straight stream of fire is something we’ve trained to get past!
“Quick Attack!”
The Eevee disappeared on the spot, it’s image fading away in distorted, black waving lines. Her Adaptability ability made her Normal types attacks twice as powerful, aiding the potency of the maneuver.
It was the Incinerate attack that Salieri had practiced against the most in order to fight Chili’s Pansear. And just like Pansear, Darumi’s Incinerate came out in a straight line from the mouth. By leaping over the flames at a diagonal angle at speed that made her almost invisible, Salem had succeeded at jumping over the flames. She spun like a wheel above Darumi’s head, whipping her tail down to slam it into his face. This Quick Attack wasn’t a full power move because she planned on using the momentum of the hit to flip off of Darumi and land a fair distance behind the Fire type.
If the attack succeeded, anyway.

Salieri was no joke. No, Henrietta shouldn't say that. She wouldn't expect such basic attacks to work. Still, Salieri came off as good. Better than Wayne? She would have to wait to be seen.
The only versatile move she had was angry dance. It was, basically, an angry attack. So, Henrietta said, "grab up!"
As the tail came down and hit Darumi would get his hands around it, and with a newly powered up rage he'd pull Salem toward the ground, hard, under the orders of "angry dance!"

[Location: Striaton City]
Early in the afternoon, Winterson finally reached the gates to Striaton City. He didn't expect the travel to be that far on foot, but it didn't matter. It was still early in the day anyway, so he could probably still do a bit more training before anything else. First thing's first, though. He and his Pokemon had to grab lunch. It was already a few minutes past lunchtime, and he thought that both Glaceon and Cubchoo would be hungry. The first stop would then have to be the Pokemon Center. He made his way there under the hot Unova sun. Well, this was surely different than the weather in Sinnoh, he thought.
The doors slid open, and Winterson soon felt the cold conditioned air inside the center. To his right was a small PokeMart. That seemed like a nifty place to grab lunch. But aside from that, there was a small cafe in the other side of the lobby, opposite the PokeMart. Up ahead was the counter. The Striaton City Pokemon Center was a lot bigger and busier than the one in Accumula Town, probably because the city had a fairly big population.
Moving a bit farther from the entrance, Winterson took two Pokeballs from his backpouch, and threw them into the air. The two objects popped open, and there, they released a stream of white light that gathered into two separate bodies over the floor. With a sparking entrance, both Glaceon and Cubchoo were sent out.
"Glaceon," calmly cried the four-legged ice-type as it immediately stood on all fours.
"C-c-cuuuub-choo!" sneezed the poor sickly Cubchoo. It seemed sick, but as of recent learning, the sicker it gets, the better. Hence, Winterson wasn't worried. The trainer picked up the small baby bear from the ground and carried it in his arms.
"Okay, guys, let's have some lunch," mused Winterson cheerfully. "Then, we're going to have a bit of training to prepare ourselves for the Gym," he added. Glaceon gave a nod, and then followed after her master. Together, the moved to the small caffe to the side of the center lobby and took a seat. Diligently, he began to unwrap a few poffins that he had stored inside the Poffin Case he was carrying. Blue Poffins, sweet and dry - these were Glaceon's favorite. Glaceon sat down opposite to Winterson, and began eating the treats over the table. Again, Winterson placed a few more berries over the table, and allowed for Cubchoo to eat them. He, on the other hand, ordered a smoothie, and a sandwich thinking that a simple meal would do. He wouldn't want to be too full before training started. For the moment, Winterson and his Pokemon enjoyed their lunch. The boy, however, began to pay attention to his surroundings, observing what was going on in the Pokemon Center quite carefully.

So she saw the tail coming. I didn’t expect a battler out of such a shy person. Salieri grinned as Darumi began to pull down Salem. But this is why you don’t reveal all your cards right away. “Counter the blow!”
As Salem was being pulled down, her eyes glowed blue and she spun her shoulder. With Detect, her landing was a smooth transition as she braced herself with her paw momentarily on the ground to nullify the damage and free her tail. She then dropped to her shoulder and spun around, her tail swinging with her. It looked as if she was breakdancing.
If Darumi stayed close, he’d be whipped and knocked back by the Eevee’s tail with a Quick Attack as she regained her footing. Once she stood up again, she started to slowly circle her opponent like a feline of predatorial nature.
“You’re not too bad,” Salieri complimented playfully as Salem licked her lips while keeping her eyes on Darumi. Now she was waiting for him to move. “What’s your name?”

"Catch burn!" Henrietta said as quickly as possible. Her eyes stayed on the battlefield and she could feel a sort of weight on her. Like losing meant she wasn't good enough to get a badge.
But also that she was in a tough match.
Darumi caught the tail this time and used his strength to hold it in place. This time Salem wouldn't be escaping. He'd trained to fire his flames faster, trained to utilize his breathing to reach the core of his flame.
Sure, he'd only trained for two days, but he'd made progress.
And Salem would see it. No room for dodging, and hopefully Detect wasn't a move that could be spammed. If all went well, Salem would find at least her tail roasted.
"H-henrietta," Henrietta said hastily. She didn't want to waste even a second if it meant she had no time to give orders.

((I thought I'd point out that YAWN can't really be a gas...it looks that way because...how else would they show it in game? A yawn is sound. Have you ever seen someone breath gas when they yawn? Just sayin' 4laugh I know it has nothing to do with me, but I just thought it was weird <3 Or whatever *shrug* It's too late now lol))
Once again in Route 3, Avan and Baku found a clearing in the wooded area. "This looks like a good place..." Avan mumbled.
[What?]
"Nothing Baku." The boy surveyed the area looking for anything that could prove as an interruption to what would occur there. "Baku...could you take a look around as well? Make sure there will be no interruptions?"
[To what?] Avan heard but pretended to be too busy looking around to answer [...Whatever.] The Munna floated off and around the area. Avan made sure he was barely out of sight before calling Kali from her ball. He bent down to meet her eye level.
"Ok Kali, since we need more training...how about we have a little fun with the sack of hot air there." He pointed to Munna. The Yamask grinned wide. "He'll put up more of fight then the Blitzle or Woobat, think your ready?" Kali nodded.
Alright. Sorry Baku. You won't agree to this either way, so we'll have to force you. The thought was funny to Avan and expressed itself through a not-so-innocent smile.

((Yeah, I was always under the impression that yawns were a sound thing. But the Yawn attack in the games just looks like a cartoon fart.))
“VEEEE!!!” yelped Salem as she jumped high into the air, slipping out of Darumi’s grasp in the process. But she had already been struck by the attack, as evident by her tail. The Incinerate had made direct contact.
Landing away from the fight, she ran to the lake and turned to dip her tail into the water. Steam rose as the singed fur made contact, and the Eevee sighed with relief. Salem looked over to Darumi and the trainers, and then swiped her paw across her neck. Her tongue stuck out the side of her mouth as she did so.
“Vee,” she said flatly with another sigh. She was done.
Salieri’s mouth gaped open in a strange mixture of surprise, horror, and embarrassment. “Did you…just quit?”
She was baffled. Her pokemon had just given up a match, and it had rendered her speechless. “I...I…” She looked over to Henrietta, then to Darumi, then to Salem, then back to Henrietta, and then back to Salem, unable to utter a word.
Liuye Dao facepalmed, and his bladed hand made a “Klink!” against his steel forehead. He looked over to Chen Zhen, who looked embarrassed for Salem. [Why would she just quit like that?] the Pansage muttered with a frown.
The Battle Girl’s face had turned a light shade of pink as she turned to Henrietta. Salieri hadn’t lost a pokemon battle yet. She knew it was inevitable, but why did it have to be like this? Losing to Henrietta wouldn’t have been that bad. She was a talented trainer despite her timid nature, and it had been a good match. But Salem had made her look like a fool.
“P-please forgive me!” Salieri stammered to Henrietta while bowing with her arms at her sides. She looked down at the ground in frustrated shame. Her pokemon were her responsibility, right? So she needed to own up for their actions. “I have dishonored this match!”

Henrietta was speechless as well. Darumi had easily taken more hits from Salem, and with the initial strategy it didn't look like Henrietta had much chance unless Darumi got Salem pinned to the ground. Still, though, for the Pokemon to quit?
Because its tail got lit on fire?
Was this vanity? Or a fear of pain? Or what? Henrietta looked at Salieri who seemed embarrassed by the whole ordeal. She looked to Wayne, then to Salem, down to Darumi, then back to Salieri.
"H-hum.."
I should say something. But what?
She called Wayne's words and said, "th-thank you for the match."
Darumi was proud of his 'victory' and he puffed his chest up and fired an Incinerate into the air, safe from others being in harms way of it.
And Henrietta giggled. Darumi was proud, and Salem was... vane? Possibly, still.
"Pokemon are interesting," she said. She felt a bit loosened up now, it was relaxing, right? She felt that way, even with the awkwardness of Salieri's change of character.

And now Henrietta was thanking her for the match? Salieri could only feel her face getting redder. Is this what a loss in a pokemon battle felt like? This...is an unmitigated disaster.
She turned her head to Salem, who was relaxed now that her tail had cooled down. Her Eevee had never disobeyed her command before. It was only until she got hurt that she stopped battling. Come to think of it, thanks to her Detect and Adaptability Quick Attack, Salem had never gotten hit before. This battle had been the first time she suffered damage.
So did that mean that Salem quit when it got tough? Or did she just not like the way that her fur felt after a battle? Gritting her teeth, Salieri silently returned all of her pokemon to their pokeballs and stood up. As soon as she saw Henrietta’s face, she looked flustered again. She just didn’t know how to handle losing.
She heard that your were supposed to give a trainer a cash prize when they defeated you. But Salieri had went over budget in town before buying supplies and food, and this loss would set her back way too far. “Um…I…”
Actually, she did have something she could give to the other trainer. Reaching into her bag, she pulled out a berry large enough that pulling it out of the waistbag seemed impossible. “Uh, here. It’s called a Custap Berry, I think. Um, I heard it’s good once you get past the hard part…”
Before it was Henrietta who was the timid one. Now, Salieri wasn’t so sure. Such an embarrassing loss had instantly knocked her off her pedestal, and although she was trying to hold onto her old position, her grip was slipping. The last thing she wanted to do was to look back at Wayne, who she had told to be like iron only the day before.
Be like iron…now I’m the one who’s soft.

Salieri was a silly girl. So this was how it looked to other people, right? Henrietta had tried to lighten and relax the mood to no avail, still...
"H-hum, I guess you still have training you can do here," she said. In Henrietta's opinion it was true. Best to get beyond any 'getting hit means the battle is over' problems before one ran into the bigger hitters later down the road.
Henrietta smiled awkwardly, she couldn't appeal by being nice, right? Salieri seemed even more awkward when that happened. So appeal to her side as a trainer, right?
She looked at the berry and shook her head. "I-i don't need anything like that, but thank you," she said. And then she looked toward Route 3.
"A-and I should get training, too..."

Henrietta's advice stung Salieri's large ego a little, even if they were entirely true. It seemed that badges weren't necessarily a measure of power. Henrietta hadn't won hers, after all.
Now that her offer had been rejected, she realized how much she overreacted. It only compounded on her embarrassment, but she felt a little less tense.
"Are you sure?" Salieri asked once more."After all, you..."
No. She still couldn't say it to her face. Salieri's eyes darted towards the ground before she finished her sentence. "You won."

Wayne felt better after seeing that. At least he wasn't the only one with pokémon obedience problems. And at least his pokémon could take a hit; he expected it'd be harder to get a pokémon over a problem like that than getting them to stop disobeying orders. While he liked Salieri's confidence, he didn't envy her situation one bit.
"Man, I don't think I've ever seen such a stroppy pokémon," he said with a happy grin as his arms slid behind his head. Petilil popped up from behind his hair, making Wayne resemble a low-rent two-headed monster.
"At least it's good experience, I mean, we're called Trainers cause this is what we're about. Getting experience with our pokémon, getting close to them or whatever." Petilil hopped to the ground and hid behind her trainer's leg. "Battling's just a part of that, I think. Cause if all we did was battle then we'd be called Pokémon Battlers. Not Trainers."
He scratched his cheek, feeling a little embarrassed for saying a spontaneous speech, but he'd been quiet so long he felt like he had a lot to say. "So err. Salieri. You beat the gym leaders before, right, so... you think you've got any words of wisdom? I'm not above taking advice."
And he hoped that giving Salieri a position of authority again would make her cheer up. Not that he'd tell her that.

Henrietta nodded and recalled Darumi.
"I-i really do need to get to training, though. S-sorry," she said and she briefly waved to Salieri and Wayne before she continued on her way to the route.
