Justin heard what Shadow had said. However, this was no good reason for throwing Tails to a gator.

"Honestly, you threw an eight-year-old to an aligator!" Rouge said, glaring at Shadow.
Shadow looked at Tails. He walked over to the fox, taking a hand from his pocket.
Tails closed his eyes tightly, ready for the blow. But actually, he felt himself being scratched behind the ears. He slowly opened his eyelids, gazing up at Shadow.
"Sorry about that. I wasn't in a good mood, and your screaming annoyed me." He muttered, putting his hand back in his pocket.

Justin was still not entirely convinced. He should keep a close eye on Shadow, just to be sure.

"Just don't do it again, please." Tails mumbled, barely audible.
Shadow looked at Justin. "What question do you have?" He asked.

"Good, because I have work to do." Shadow turned and began walking from them(but not to town).
"Hold up, I DO have a question." Knuckles said, crossing his arms. Shadow stopped, looking over his shoulder at the echidna. "What work do you have to do that prevents YOU from sleeping, but you're telling US to?"
"Scouting. I don't need rest. I'm the Ultimate Lifeform, remember?" Shadow left, going away from the gates.
"Shadow, wait up! I'm not done with you yet!" Luna called, running after him.
"Give him a break, guys. He's Shadow. He'll always be Shadow." Sonic chuckled, grinning slightly.

Justin nodded. He, however, still thought something was wrong with Shadow. No matter how angry you get, what he did to Tails was unacceptable.

Tails felt behind his ear, where Shadow had scratched.
"Uhm, Tails, what are you doing?" Sonic raised his eyebrows.
"I dunno. I wanted to make sure he hadn't put something in my fur." Tails said, lowering his arm. "This is gonna sound crazy....but I think Shadow was trying to do me in when he threw me to the alligator...."
"What? Shadow? Why would he want to kill you? That's ridiculous."
The looks on Rouge and Knuckles' faces said they were thinking the same thing as Tails.

Justin looked at Sonic. "I think Tails might be right. No matter how pissed Shadow may have been, throwing a kid to a gator just isn't right! No one does that out of sheer annoyance. They do it to kill." He told him.

Sonic held up his hands, taking a step back. "Hey, I'm not defending him, there's definately something strange going on. I'm just saying that Shadow doesn't have a reason to want to kill Tails. And anyhow, he's had so many chances to, when he was alone with the kid, so why didn't he?"
"Maybe he was just waiting for the right moment." Knuckles said quietly.
"I just don't get why Shadow pulled me out if he does want to rid of me."
"But we saw him go off with you." Rouge reminded him. "If he returned with you nowhere to be found, it'd be suspicious. So he changed his mind and saved you."

Justin nodded. Rouge's explanation made since. What DIDN'T make sense, however, was Shadow's cruelty as of late. Why would he want to kill Tails? Man, all this was confusion.

"Humans." Tails Doll sighed. Knuckles, Sonic, Rouge, and Tails all spun around, having completely forgotten he was there. "You're idioticy will get you killed."
"What's THAT supposed to mean?" Knuckles snapped.
"Well, if you understand this so well, explain it to us." Rouge said, putting her hands on her hips.
"Shadow requested that I not tell you, as he suspected I knew." Tails Doll replied, closing his eyes.
Tails' ears went flat. "No fair. Can you at least let slip a hint?"
"I will say that he is not off scouting. But I keep my word for the rest part. Until tomorrow." He evaporated, blowing away in the wind.
"Hey! Get back here!"

(Chagrin? Woah, is that a word? eek Sweeeeeet)
"If he's not off scouting, what is he...." Rouge's eyes widened. "s**t! LUNA!" She flapped her wings, going into the air, but Knuckles grabbed her ankle, Sonic the other. She hissed. "Let go of me! I need to save Luna!"
"There's no way you'll find them in this lighting, part bat or not. Whatever is wrong with Shadow, there's no way he'd hurt Luna. At least not seriously." He gently pulled her down to Earth.
"We can help by getting sleep. I have a feeling that Shadow was right when he said we'd need it." Tails said. He turned and walked into the city.

Justin nodded, shifting back into human form. He then followed Tails into the city.
Meanwhile, inside the city, our favorite demon hunter, Dante Sparda, sat alone in an old building. Although, he was expecting company, and NOT our heroes. He was called here on a job to kill some demons that usually take people to this old place.
