Lin, who was listening in since it looked like Ulani was having trouble getting Jasmine to meet her sister-in-law.

"You never had a hairball, but I always worried you might."

Miyuki blinked up at her mommy before watching Remiel crawl away.

"Careful," she told Jasmine, "Remiel is crawling close to you."

While he wasn't exactly small, he was still quite small compared to a grown elf and she thought maybe Jasmine hadn't seen him yet.

Jasmine turned carefully and looked down just as Remiel grabbed hold her her cloak. She smiled softly to herself and reached down to pick up the boy. "He's cute," she murmured.

Leilani leaned back in her chair and smiled at the two of them. "He's not shy in the least," she replied quietly. "Quite different from me."

Earendil stared at Ulrich. "So your side of the family is where the shyness comes from?" he asked in disbelief.

Ulrich rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. "Guilty as charged?"

Lin giggled at Earendil's question, of course Ulani and Ulrich had a few who were shy. Adoani and of course infamously Adonijah, and even Alyse had been shy for a while, which was probably why Jasmine was quite shy now.

"You don't have to sound so surprised about it, it had to come from somewhere."

"Well, sure, but I'd have expected it to come more from Ulani's side of the family," Earendil replied, still surprised. After all, Ulrich was the bigger jokester, the one who never seemed to have a problem with people.

Leilani giggled, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Ulani. "They don't know you very well, do they?"

Lin looked at Ulani and then looked at Earendil and then looked at Ulani again. While Ulani was not the jokester that Ulrich was, Ulani was quite the temper, and in fact she had been told on occasion that the temper ran in the family, anyone with a temper like that was probably not people shy.

"I always figured it was a toss up," Lin told him, "I mean Ulrich might be a jokester but Ulani speaks her mind."

"I take it back," Leilani smiled. "They do know you, Ulani. At least a bit."

"I think Ulani does more than speak her mind," Ulrich spoke up. He pointed at the back of his head. "I swear I still have a bump here from the last time she lost her temper on me."

Ulani threw a couch pillow at him. "That's what you get for egging me on when I'm halfway through a pregnancy!" she protested.

Earendil laughed. "So it's been a while. Adonai's got to be what, seventy? Eighty by now?"

"But think of all the other times Ulrich has gotten whacked," Lin pointed out.

Because it was a common staple that Lin was use to. Sure, her mother might whack her father now and again, but it was her mother. Kara Winters was not known for hitting hard it only sounded hard and it was always on the arm. Of course being on the short side it was hard to whack someone over the head when one was only slightly over five feet compared to hitting someone who was six feet.

Ulani on the other hand was the perfect height to whack Ulrich and she whacked hard. Apparently.

Earendil laughed. "Yes, but that's not a shyness thing. They're married, people are quite at ease with the people they've been married to for thirty five hundred years. She wouldn't do that to a stranger."

"You're clearly forgetting about the first time your uncle Elrohir was here," Ulrich spoke up. "Or when Ruran was first here."

Lin looked at Ulrich wryly, "Ulrich, Earendil and I wasn't around for when Ulani lost her temper on Ruran and we weren't even born when Elrohir first came here."

She knew this because while she didn't know the details she did know the first time Elrohir came here was the first time her parents did, which was definitely before she was born.

Ulrich laughed. "You mean no one told you the stories?" he asked her.

"Hold on a moment," Leilani interrupted. "Are you talking about the same Elrohir that we stayed with last night? Why would you lose your temper on him? He seems so nice ..."

"He's changed," Ulani assured her. "He's a good man now, but when we first met him he was anything but."

"Some of them, but I think they left that one out," Lin replied.

Probably on purpose knowing her mother, Lin had grown up while Elrohir was still changing so had never really known him at his worse.

"To make a long story short," Ulani spoke up, not wanting to cast Elrohir in a bad light after he had changed so drastically, "he was less than impressed with the fact that there were some part-humans here. You know the general attitude towards intermarrying," she added, looking at Leilani. "Elrohir never used to be any different. He's completely used to it now, but it used to be very bad."

Lin morbidly wondered how her father and Elrohir use to get along. She knew now they were good friends but if that was Elrohir use to be like she could somehow imagine sparks flying.

"I use to think he was a grump as a kid, before he married Haradhel, but that I didn't know."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 25, 2010 4:28 pm

"Trust me," Earendil chuckled, "he was no child. Even I was an adult by then. Don't forget, I used to train with Haradhel. We were both well into adulthood, and Elrohir is quite a bit older."

He pursed his lips thoughtfully, then looked at Lin. "Let's just say, he and my father used to be almost exactly the same."

Lin chuckled a bit and shook her head, "I meant when I was a kid I thought he was a grump."

She knew it was much longer for him than for her, she was only in her twenties at best and he was well over eighty.

"I thought he needed more hugs...."
