I was just wondering about Luke and Leia to get a better sense of feel for this new galaxy. Do we have a set start date for the RP? Not the Star Wars year, but as in real life? We still waiting for some more people to finish thier bios? And another thing: I don't have a Eta-2 now because the Order can't afford it? I'll make sure to change that when I submit my final.

More like this probably happened:
Yoda, feeling the jedi have lost enough as it is, and after uncovering the republic's corruption, decided to estrange themselves from being the peacekeepers of the republic to being independent of government. By no means does this mean that they do not help out people, in fact they probably have quite a bit of afforded neutrality, as they're not directly under the thumb of the Republic anymore, and this has been attested to as they help out seperatists and republicans alike, to at least pretend they're uniting the world, much like missionaries.
However, Thome, being the jerk that he is, probably decided that the old green potato didn't know diddley squat, and stuck with the republic, devoting themselves to being more of the enforcer squad of the republic military.
The Jedi probably are called upon by the senate more than the knights, unless it's an internal affair. As much of a patchwork quilt of alliances are, the republic knights also have issues crossing borders. I'm kind of seeing the RKs as being little more than just flexible senate guards, whereas the jedi have managed to maintain a more objective sense of behavior.
Because of this, I can also imagine that the jedi do tend to take some beneficials from missions done by either CIS or republic requests to mediate things. This will more than keep up the temple, the library, the records, the training, the ships, etc.

Tholme is a jerk. He cares more about his plans, than the Jedi or the Republic.
And his plans happened to be defeating the Seperatists, destroying the Sith, and defending the Republic.
So, his splinter order becomes a glorified Senate guard, dealing with matters pertaining to the saferty of the Republic, and the Republic alone.

Still, one must wonder how the senate rules places like kashyyyk. I mean, it's blocked off by seperatist and commonwealth borders.

Jedi Order - Republic Knights Relations: As I said earlier, the "higher-ups" have tension. The rest hold understanding, but many Knights see the Order as traitors/deserters.
