Seeing his brother's look of surprise, he gave Ross a little wink. Yes, that candy had been worth every bit. Popping one of the chews into his own mouth and smiling with pleasure, he nodded and held out Ross' piece. "Ready as ever." He said with a twitch of his tail as they trailed after their mother.

As the last of the candy dissolved, the after-taste was enough to keep her feeling perky a little bit longer. Yes, that sounded like a fine plan. "It's a surprise." She said playfully, her tail swaying in a relaxed manner. Thanks to the passage of time, she had managed to block away the connection between the beach and Him. Now, it was just the beach where water was cool and the sand was hot, the air was refreshing and the fish could be caught with relative ease. It wasn't more than a couple hours from where they were now. A good spot to spend a night or two.

Ross just made a face at Reed, but secretly was thankful for his brother's candy interference. A happy Ashierra was a welcome thing, especially when he had just barely escaped getting into trouble yet again. Snatching the piece of candy the teen turned it over in his hands before popping it in his mouth. It was rather good.

"Oh yay. I love surprises." Sarcastic as ever Ross only shook his head with a small laugh. Guess he would have to try to figure it out for himself or realize where they were going once they had arrived. "I just hope it's not too far away." Commented the cattaur softly. After all it already felt like he had run miles this morning.

Smirking slightly at the look he recieved, he shook his head and walked in his usual silence. "What? Had enough surprises for your taste this morning?" He asked Ross playfully, recalling how his brother had been sprinting through the crowd with someone yelling after him. His ears flipped back at the look their mother was suddenly giving them, taking a cautious step away from Ross just in case.

Ears twitching, she glanced over her shoulder to the boys and grinned through her teeth. "It's only too far for someone who can't handle a little walk through the woods." She teased roughly. The candy had cheered her up, but she had hoped the idea of a surprise would interest the boys. Though every place they went tended to be a mystery, it wasn't often that she had an actual destination of enjoyment in mind. Their muttered remarks only put an edge to her positive attitude.

They were making good time though, and the walk was shorter than she had expected. A cool breeze was starting to fan through the trees, bringing with it the sounds and smells of the ocean even though they couldn't see it yet. She took a deep breath and smiled, ignoring the subtle pick at the back of her mind. "Surprise." She said warmly, looking at the boys for their reactions.

Ross's ears flattened against his head, "I guess you could say that, Reed." He hissed back before smiling warily at his mother, "Oh alright. I think I might be able to make it then." Thank Ross for being able to supply their mother with sweets. He rather enjoyed not being interegated about his morning. Especially after what had happened this morning. A small shiver ran down his spine at the thought of it. If his mother knew...shaking his head Ross focused again. Nope. That wouldn't happen.

Suddenly a cool breeze ruffled his fur and the teen looked around. Just where were they heading? Something about it was familiar, but he just couldn't place it. Was there water nearby? And then it hit him. The ocean! Grinning he gave his mother a thumb's up, "I approve, mom! Very nice." Oh this was nice. Though he admittedly like the bustle of town life he did enjoy a nice stroll down the beach every now and then. Looking over at his brother he waited to see Reed's reaction. What did he think about this?

Feeling the breeze his well, his steps slowed just slightly. That scent was familiar, but still rare to his senses. Sand, sea weed... salt water. An unusually bright smile rose up, his mismatched eyes flicking to their mother. "Thank you, mother." He said, his voice soft in responce to what he saw on her face. Glancing at Ross, he slapped the other's arm and took off. "Last one there has to drink the water!" He shouted with a laugh.

Lifting her nose as the breeze swept through, she turned her head just enough to see what her boys thought. A small smile rose as she watched them think about where they were, and her posture relaxed when they realized it fully. Yes, the beach. The ocean. Her expression was content, giving the boys a warm smile as they approved. As Reed ran passed her, she even laughed softly, eyes lighting up with relief. Breaking through the treeline, she took a deep breath of the salty air, taking in the expanse of pure sand and the glittering blue water. Beautiful.

Ross grinned. Ah, it was a nice breeze. The salty scent of the waves and the sounds of them crashing in the distance - it was quite romantic. No wonder couples often strolled down this way at night. He grinned. Maybe this was a new idea to use. Definitely. He could already imagine the possibilities...

Then his brother interrupted the day dream.

"Wait! What was that?" He laughed, "You better enjoy the taste of salt!" Moving he started to chase after his brother, only stumbling when he spotted his mother's expression. So the ocean was good for all of them then. He was glad. Oh! Ross realized that he still had a race to run. With a grin he threw himself forward running until he tackled his brother in a scramble to get to the water.

"That's the best advice you've ever given yourself!" He called back, bracing himself as his paws passed from hard ground to soft sand. He yelped with laughter as he was tackled, arms flying to grab onto Ross, determined to not be the recipient of his own threat. Apparently he had hesitated just long enough to let his brother catch up. "Oh no you don't!" He growled playfully, tumbling into the ocean at the exact same time as his sibling.

Taking in the scenery, she kept her focus on her sons until they pounced into the water, laughing a little louder at their antics. About mid-way to the water, she finally caught on to their excitement. In a smile brighter than either teen had seen in a long time, she burst forward, leaping into the waves a few feet away.

The feline stayed under as long as she could, swimming along the shallows until she couldn't stay under any longer. She broke to the surface and gasped for air in breathless laughter, tossing her hair with a few shakes of her head. When had she last felt free like this? The beach was truly magical.

Spitting Ross emerged from the water and made a face at the saltiness of the water. "So disgusting." Crinkling his nose he looked around to find his brother. Instead he managed to catch a glimpse of his mother and the teen smiled. Maybe the ocean really was a good idea for them all...rising with the waves he could only wonder about what it would be like to be able to just stay here where they could always hear the waves crashing gently against the shore. A family by the waters...watching the stars reflect off the ocean depths every night. Breathing in the fresh air.

But he knew better...there was still so much that was missing from their life and though Ross could only vaguely remember a blurry encounter with someone important he realized how greatly that missing presence still affected them. At the thought he frowned. Was something wrong with the wind? It brushed against them, unusually tingly against his skin. That strange wind he had felt a couple of times before, but this was the first time in months.

Brushing off the strange feeling Ross laughed and made a move to look for his brother, "Hey Reed! Be prepared to see what's really under the sea!"

Thankfully, his lips had been pressed firmly closed, prepared for the sharp salt water. It seeped into his eyes though, and he had to blink a few times before he could see properly. His ears rejoiced at his mother's laugh, and pinned back playfully at Ross' call. He was too distracted to notice the strange wind. "Better be careful! Probably some sea monster down there looking for a tasty meal. I hear they're particularly fond of blond-headed baboons like you!" he taunted, jumping to clear the water and tackle his brother.

Clearing the salt water from her face, she kicked around in the shallow edge of the water idly, her eyes now on her sons. They were growing so quickly. They would be good men, surely. Not at all like their good for nothing- She instantly dashed the thought away before it could produce the dreaded title.

Sighing, she smiled to the boys again before diving for deeper water again. Perhaps strange for firey cats to enjoy a swim, but it reminded her of her homeland, and the watercats she had been born from. That had all been fresh water, but water was water.

"Uh huh!" Laughing Ross clutched at his brother and wrestled with him despite the moving waters, "Looks like I've been attacked by one!" Grinning he elbowed Reed before attempting to wiggle free into the ocean waters. His arm muscles stretched as a sharp pain went through his arms. Surely he hadn't been stroking that hard. Ross bit his lip before relaxing his struggle in the waters. If he just floated then surely he would be alright. Still the teen couldn't help but to want to mess with his brother...but what was the best way?

"Race ya further out Reed!" Calling out Ross decided to push back his tired body's protests and to swim further into the quickly changing waves. The peaceful melody of the ocean was quietly changing from calm to something more drastic. It wasn't until he was going beneath the waves that the skies suddenly darkened and the winds picked up. A storm was brewing and the teen had no idea that was was beginning to rage above him.

Before he realized it Ross wasn't at the surface anymore and was rather falling deeper and deeper into the depths. Eyes widening in surprise the cattaur's vision blurred as his arms limply floating at his sides and the ocean welcomed his tired body. He couldn't even remember being able to spot his mother or brother either before going under for the final time.

The wind smacked at itself violently, but it could not control the rising storm. Nature demanded violently to explode in the sky above as thunder and lightening broke out. "Shoot!" Pushing past the surface of water mist formed around the teen and in desperation pulled him back out of the waters. Leaning over him towards a stonier part of the beach a petite female bent down and with a kiss breathed air back into the water chocked lungs.

Growling with mock-fierceness, acting like a sea monster, Reed waved his arms before chasing after Ross. He wasn't a strong swimmer though, and lagged behind. "Ross.. Come back this way." He hated to admit it, but he couldn't be blamed, right? When had they last gone swimming? "...I found a starfish!" Yeah.....

When the weather took its sudden turn for the worse, his eyes rose to the dark sky. What was..? A heavy wave pushed him under, and by the time he popped back up, Ross was gone. Water constantly splashing into his face kept him from yelling for his brother, and the prickle of panic snuck along his neck. A sharp pain on his scalp made him seize up, feeling himself dragged along.

Coming back to the surface, Ashierra looked up at the sky with a suspicious glare. Of course a random storm would come to ruin their nice day.. "Boys, time to get out," she called as she swam for shore, noticing the boys in the distance. They were so deep in.. Her paws touched the bottom when the wind kicked up, and she looked at the sky again. What the..? She ducked against a blast of sand to her face, feeling the wind whip around. She spun, and couldn't see her children. No!

Desperate, she ran along the shore and dove back in toward where she'd last seen them. Without a second thought, he grabbed the first thing she could reach, which was Reed's hair. She couldn't see Ross though! Dragging Reed to shore, she stood and tried to scan the water's surface. "ROSS!" She shrieked with anger and fear, hugging Reed to herself tightly.

Then, she saw... Could it be? Still keeping Reed held tight, even though he was about the same size as her by now, she carried him at a run toward the limp form of Ross that was... floating? "Ross!!"

Oh gods his body ached. Groaning Ross rubbed at his eyes and blinked to make the fuzziness leave his vision. Somehow inside of the storm which had began raging around them the winds were calm here. What? And a glowing figure was hovering above him...such a beautiful image. Despite his confusion though the teen pushed his tired body up at the sound of his name, "Mom! Over here!" One more cough to rid the rest of his burning lungs of the saltwater. Comically he glared over at the ocean waves. And to think I trusted you. Still his gaze only widened at the sound of a soft laughter...that wasn't a spirit who had saved him but an actual cattaur? A very pretty one at that...his face flushed as he suddenly remembered the reason he could breath again.

Rubbing her sore flesh that had knitted tightly together for the first time in days the wind cattaur smiled softly at the teen who she was supporting. How was it that both of the boys reminded her so much of their father? A bitter twinge of emotion went through Jade before she looked back to their mother. "Ashierra." The name escaped her breath in a soft whisper which caused Ross to blink over at the stranger.

How did she know his mother's name?

Breaking through the barrier, her brow knit at the sudden calm while the storm continued to rage around them. She just wanted to get to her son. Still yanking Reed along, she dropped to Ross' side and grabbed either side of his face. "Ross! Are you okay? How did you get over here?"

When that soft voice whispered her name, her whole body stiffened. That wasn't.... Seeing that Ross was breathing, she pulled him against her as well before turning her head to the mystical female. "....Jade," she whispered in her own soft breath of disbelief. She hadn't thought of Jade in so long.... She was stunned into stillness, hearing the roar of the storm muffled by what must have been Jade's protective barrier. She fought hard to keep sharp memories at bay. Finally, her voice began to return. "What are you doing here?"

Reed flopped along weakly, barely able to keep his paws on the ground as he was dragged along. Mom? Where had she come from? Where was Ross? By the time they reached the sheltered area, his legs were supporting his body fairly well. Taking a deep breath, he sighed with relief at the sight of his brother.

His ears perked in surprise at the strange voice, looking over to the new cattaur. "Did you save Ross? You did, didn't you?" Fully ashamed that he hadn't been able to reach his brother first, and, completely oblivious to his mother's reaction to the arrival, walked over and gave her a deep bow. "Thank you."

"I'm alright, mom. No worries." Coughing a bit he grinned sheepishly, "A weird mist and spirit lady saved me just now." He hugged her briefly before moving back a bit to look over again at the strange female. Ross was curious about his mother's reaction towards her, but the toil of the ocean on his body made him too tired to really bother with it. Though it didn't help that the female in front of him was also breath taking in his eyes. If she wasn't an angel then she should have been. He sighed softly before making it over towards his brother and leaning on him like a drunkard. "Something weird is going on here..." He whispered with a pause before adding, "Not to mention that something that beautiful shouldn't exist." He couldn't help it. Appreciating lovely females was a habit.

Jade smiled weakly at Ashierra, "I've been traveling..." She started and sighed lightly. She wouldn't admit to the on and off visits of wind that had followed the family for a while now. The cattaur rubbed her shoulders again, "Sorry. It's hard to be used to this form again after being gone for so long." Her gaze was somber and apologetic for far more than just that though. She didn't need to ask who the teens were...her expression told that she knew already. Blinking she looked back over to Reed and nodded, "Yes. It was no problem. Just helping another..." She trailed off before looking at Ashierra. "Should we get out of this mess first and then maybe....talk?" Her voice was soft and inquiring.

She had to stop the fire cats before they traveled too far down the coast. A dark secret awaited them should they continue...and Jade was worried. For the first time in forever she had revealed herself rather than being silent for that very danger. The danger of him. Of what he could do to them.

Her head was beginning to hurt. She'd shoved the memories so deeply away. The sight of Jade was breaking the bonds holding them back. Bands that had been made of anger and hurt tended to break easily...

Fighting back tears, she turned her head and walked over to her sons. She didn't want to face this... Placing a hand on their shoulders, she started to nudge them away. "I don't think there's anything we need to discuss," she said shortly, shoulders bunching up. Her next words came out softer. Weaker.. "Jade...Thank you for saving my son... but I can't..."

Able to catch his breath now, Reed was able to support his brother's weight. His eyes widened at Ross' words, and he smirked brightly. At least Ross was still Ross. "Come on, Casanova. No way she'd go for a chump like you~" he joked, just relieved that Ross was okay. Though, even he had to admit that the stranger was... lovely.

When he noticed his mother's reaction though, his mouth clamped shut, and he looked curiously at the green female. Who was she?
