She was beginning to feel a kindling of what appeared to be confidence and some damage repair to her pride when, moving one arm to get closer to the branches, she lost her footing (so to speak) again. This time, it almost turned her upside down, and Nadeshiko put all her concentration and power onto maintaining her balance and her position on the tree, as well as attempting to save the remaining shreds of her pride by not shrieking out loud in fear. She hugged the tree tightly, her eyes squeezed shut again, and she was biting on her lip to keep it from opening.

She was clamping so tightly to the tree that there were what looked like an tiny animal's claw marks etched into the tough bark of the deceased plant. Quite a feat, and also quite a sad reflection of the fear that was currently conquering Nadeshiko's heart. The girl was frozen in her position hanging slightly off of it, and it didn't seem like she wanted to move. She was trying to slow down her fluttering heart by taking more deep breaths, but it came out sounding like hyperventilation. It didn't help when another gust of wind came by and caused her thick, heavy hair to slap her in the face. But it did make her a little angry to be hit by a part of her own body, and she tried to get her resolve back.

Steeling her heart, mind, and spine (not to mention her hands and feet), Nadeshiko righted herself, and restarted her climb up the tree. This time, she would not let herself be swayed, or moved. She would allow no lapse in her concentration. The small girl wound herself closer and closer to where she had been before she had slipped, her eyes wide open and concentrated at the prize. The tree was a tough old thing to have grown so close to the edge, and equally daring to have bowed its head over it. Nadeshiko would not lose to a dead tree. Now, she was being suspended over the cliff, and as she looked out, she realized that the view was actually quite spectacular. Dreary and gloomy, but somehow magnificent in its dark majesty. She wondered how she had let fear take over her in the first place. A voice in her head was partying as Nadeshiko realized that she no longer feared the height.

It seemed as though Nadeshiko jumped right onto the tree and then immediately regretted it, as it was clear that there was a bit of fear present in the young girl. However, Sukotto noticed as the girl seemed to eventually relax against the bark of the tree as she readied herself to continue the task that Sukotto had given her. "It's not so bad up there once you get used to it, is it Nadeshiko?" Having pretty much concluded his thoughts about the upcoming mission, Sukotto decided that it would be a good idea to get himself warmed up by doing a bit of practice with his chakra. It had been some time since he had worked on it, and while he felt that it had improved tremendously over the course of his time in Shimagakure, the Uchiha felt as though it wasn't quite where it needed to be. He decided to use one of his favorite training sessions to improve the efficiency of his chakra by attempting to warm his body with it. Just as Sukotto sat down cross-legged and began to form the Ram Seal, a strong gust of wind blew throughout the area. 'This should be interesting,' he thought silently to himself as he closed his eyes and began to concentrate on his chakra.

Yes, it really is quite nice up here Sukotto-san. The view is much better than you'd think it would be." Nadeshiko had finally gotten a firm foothold and was standing, balanced on a thick branch of the tree, when mother nature decided to spazz at her and caused the wind to rise again. She was being bombarded by some super-strong gusts, and it was quite some work to stay standing where she was. Of course, she wasn't going to let a little breeze like that shake her though. She concentrated on staying where she was, even though the branches of the tree were begin to sway and the wind seem to be getting stronger.

"Just a minute," Akiko called. She tried to climb up to the tree Nadeshiko had already started on. The surface was rough and difficult to climb--it took a great deal of her strength to even get up there. She found the tree and sat in the loop of the J. Resting there for a moment, she reached over to the offending branch. She tried to pull it toward her, but it wouldn't budge. Then, she tried to put her feet on part of the branch to give herself more leverage. But, it still wouldn't budge. Plus, she felt like she was slipping. Perhaps this wasn't the safest of choices. Then again, safety wasn't really a huge part of a shinobi's job, was it? She'd have to put her life on the line for much tougher things than this. Either way, safe or not, she wasn't really getting there. "Umm, try again?" she suggested.

Akiko looked up at Nadeshiko. Scotty-san had mentioned that he wanted to see how well they worked together, so maybe their combined strength could rend the limb off this tree. She wasn't that used to teamwork, though; the majority of her training thus far was independent. So, how can she get their efforts to succeed? She braced her back against the rocks and leaned onto the branch with her arms. Maybe timing had something to do with it. It was a shot in the dark, but it couldn't hurt to try. "Umm, maybe on the count of three?" she suggested. She rubbed her hands against the rough bark, priming herself for the moment Nadeshiko said "three".

Sukotto grinned as the two girls immediately began to work together. It seemed as though they were having a bit of trouble at first, but the Uchiha figured that they would get it down eventually. He hoped that they would be able to really think about themselves as a team, especially since Sukotto's last squad had a bit of trouble with this sort of thing at first. This was no doubt the result of Orochi Shisei being one member of the team. The snake youth, while a true genius for his age, was quite reluctant to accept or give any sort of help, and Sukotto feared that the boy would one day take a turn down a dark path as a result of this. He only hoped that he would somehow be able to influence him against this, or at the very least, train his peers like Akiko and Nadeshiko to deal with the power that he could potentially misuse in the future. However, as Sukotto continued his chakra exercise, he would do his best to concentrate on the team that he was with at that moment. "It is quite a view. I've had many memories involving those trees. If you two learn to work together, then you will be able to overcome any challenge that is thrown your way." Sukotto figured that the dire situation in the village was enough cause for him to spoil a secret that he usually let his students figure out on their own, "Don't be afraid to encourage each other. I'm not sure what sort of relationship you two have, but a little seed of encouragement can blossom into a giant and sturdy tree of success!"
+3 To Akiko and Nadeshiko's next Focus rolls for the teamwork training session.
Sukotto's Hint: Don't forget that you two can also help each other out! Since you're both at Academy Student level, you can each give +1 to each other if that matches your personality. If you'd like to be more cruel, you can also give -1 to each other! No matter which you choose, it will actually give you a greater experience reward when the training is over!

It seemed as though Sukotto's own training was actually going quite well for him. He had set up the training to help him more if he failed at it quite a bit, but he didn't mind succeeding at all. He was attempting to concentrate on his chakra in a less serious sort of way, which allowed him to relax and think of other things while doing the exercise at the same time. In the past, Sukotto had created a lot of difficulties for himself whenever his mind wandered from a training session. He knew that this was because his past self was less experienced in the types of skills and abilities that he had been trying to enhance. Since he had become much more comfortable with these items, he was able to allow his mind to wander a bit more freely, allowing him to consider and contemplate other things without having to sacrifice the success rate of his training sessions.

As the chakra throughout his network warmed his body in the presence of the cool morning air, Sukotto began to think about the other elemental affinities a little. He remembered that he had seen and heard of Shinichi taming at least three of the main elements, and this intrigued the young Uchiha. He remembered that Ichi only really focused on the fire element, and very rarely the earth element, but primarily used genjutsu over ninjutsu. Since these men had fallen in battle without ever revealing how to command more than one element, Sukotto was at a bit of a loss when it came to this subject. He had read plenty of books in the library, but only found vague references about shinobi using more than one element, and considered it to be somewhat of a rare thing. He then started to wonder what element he'd pick if he was able to somehow choose to add one to his set of abilities.

If there was a way to choose which new element he wanted to teach himself, if he ever grew to that level, Sukotto knew that he'd need to think long and hard about which affinity he took up. This decision was quite important, as he knew that each element had its own strengths and weaknesses. One of the elements that Sukotto had been most interested in was the water affinity. One of the main reasons for this was that his friend Aya had used this element herself. While she never had the chance to activate a water-based offensive ninjutsu attack against the Uchiha in battle, Aya did manage to activate one that was more passive. This jutsu was the Hidden Mist technique, a move in which the controlling shinobi covered the area in a thick mist, making it difficult to spot them under normal circumstances. Thanks to his Sharingan, Sukotto didn't have any trouble locating Aya, even in the hazy world of the mist, but it definitely would have worked against most other shinobi at his level.

I've figured that much out on my own. Two is always better than one. That was something Nadeshiko learned from babyhood. In her caravan everyone had a mutual responsibility for everything, and pretty much every task was shared, including raising children. But yes, to get anything off of this tree was impossible for either of them alone, being the small and sadly minuscule little people they were. But 'a little seed of encouragement can blossom into a giant and sturdy tree of success'? Really. "Sukotto-san, you may want to work on your metaphors." Just getting if off her back. " That sounds like a good idea Akiko-senpai. Okay....one, two, three!" Nadeshiko pronounced the last three words slowly and clearly. She could see that Akiko was ready with her hands pressed against the bark, so she aimed a good strong kick at the branch as well. She almost fell over from the force of it, but the branch cracked merrily.

She realized as the tree shook that (even though it was her foot that was hanging over empty space), Akiko seemed just a little bit more nervous than she was. Nadeshiko scrambled back onto the curved trunk of the tree, and moved towards the next branch, which looked somewhat smaller and weaker than the last, but was also higher up and farther out. Careful not to shake it anymore than it already was, she called out to Akiko. "Same plan for the next one? Or are we going to try something new?" Nadeshiko had her hand out at the ready to help pull Akiko up if she needed it.

And just as she reached below the branch with one hand, the wind blew even stronger, causing her body, which was balancing on one arm, to topple over. Argh, when was this going to stop? It was hard enough staying on the tree without the need for whipped cream and a cherry on top. Nadeshiko was hanging onto the tree in a position similar to a gorilla hanging of a branch with one hand. Reaching repeatedly for a place to grip with her other, she managed to pull herself back up into her original position.

The Uchiha rubbed the back of his neck, closed his eyes, and grinned as Nadeshiko called him out on one of his lame metaphors. It was interesting that the girl had done this, as everyone else had merely ignored them before! This girl had an interesting sort of personality, and Sukotto was interested in finding out more about her, in addition to Akiko. He had gone through a few mental training sessions on his own in regard to his previous squad before the attack on the village in order to work with them on missions better. Since he had a new squad that he'd be working with, the Uchiha thought it would be a good idea if he took a bit of time to get to know their personalities and see if he could find any strengths or weaknesses through this process. For starters, Nadeshiko wasn't afraid to speak her mind. Sukotto quite liked that.
