Until you at least make sacrifices like Kashrit, you can't go around flaunting a kippah,
  You told yourself that? I Agree.
  You told yourself that? I Disagree.

It has expanded to all brain disorders though, and from Judaism to life as a whole. Perhaps it should be changed from "OCD in Judaism" to "The Mental Health Centre." or something.

I'll keep the title because I like the focus to be on scrupulosity, even though contamination is 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,

With me it's compulsion followed by obsession. So I see something that bugs me, I solve it. If I start thinking about what I just did, though, problems emerge.

Example: OCD says: Open doors = EVIL. So I close all doors. But I then begin to panic that the door has locked itself and I am trapped, so I must open the door. Compulsion kicks in, and I close it. See the cycle here?

Yup.

Obsession=Open doors are evil
Compulsion=Close the door already!

Obsession=Trapped!
Compulsion=Open the door already!

Got it.

I remember how I got diagnosed with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

I recognized signs in my behavior, at the time just having to touch things an even number of times (2, 4, or 8 is best) and my germaphobia and love of symmetry.

But I didn't want to sound stupid for asking my psychologist father if I had OCD if I really didn't, so I said that I'd had a dream to make it easier to bring the topic up:

In this ficticious dream, I was at the doctor's office eating a chocolate monkey. Then the doctors took the chocolate monkey away becuase I had OCD. That made me mad. So, I went to the President of the United States, who was a seafaring pirate, with my complaints and somehow ended up on a quest to fo to Costco and find him some Green Shoes.

I succeeded in nonchalantly bringing up the question and not sounding stupid.

We ended up deciding I had what we called 'OCD-isms' which sometimes made me 'Oc-Dismal' (my joke).

But no matter what my dad says, when you've been where I've been since then, it is the real OCD, no 'isms' about it.

My family are known for disorders, both mental and physical. I was born with an extra-short tendon in one thumb, and it was extended surgically shortly after. About a third of my family have diabetes, and a quarter are dyslexic. One in ten of us have OCD. We've a history of heart and thyroid problems. However, we have very little dementia, so that's good. As far as I know, I'm the only one with any signs of bipolar disorder.

I diagnosed myself, as I'm quite keen for psychology and noticed little indicators after a while. I thought I was just a little depressive, but then my irritability, the fact I need little sleep or food, my endless energy and other general signs of hypomania pointed me to Manic Depression/Bipolar.

OCD was always very obvious, from when I was only a few years old and straightening out remote controls to be parallel to each other yet perpendicular to the television, etc.

And how I was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome.

After my first midlife crisis at 9 years old, I started seeing a psychologist.

Year later when my OCD-isms became OCD and flared up big time and put me in Hell, I went to see my psychologist, who let me in on a big secret that I couldn't know until the time was right: Upon meeting me at 9, my psychologist has diagnosed me with Aspergers Syndrome but had not been allowed to tell me becuase my psychologist dad and my psychiatrist disagreed. Only now that I was in trouble was I allowed to know what I was facing.

When I'd discovered my OCD I'd relished in gobbling up the label. When I heard this I enjoyed the novelty of shock in being diagnosed this way with a disorder my friend has.

I would soon go to a Special camp for Aspergers peers and discovered just how much of me is Aspergers. We had to set goals daily and one day mine was 'to fall into a routine.' My friend then pulled me aside and told me just how Aspergers-y an aspiration that was. xd

Hmm...How I was diagnosed with ADHD...

"GET BACK ON TASK!" scream
"STOP MOVING AROUND!!" scream
"Why don't you ever think things through!?"

My teachers always complained that I was twitchy, moved around a lot, couldn't stay on task and I was often impulsive. So, finally, my older brother got tired of their complaining and took me to some doctor. They took a blood test and some other boring evaluation tests that diagnosed me with severe ADHD.

As soon as I rememer how I was diagnosed with Dyslexia I'll post it.

That was actually the point. I didn't want to just awkwardly ask out of the blue if I had a specific Brain Disorder, so I decided to casually bring it up by saying I'd had a dream. And to make it sound real I just threw in some of the most random things the likes of which might be in a real dream.

Smart, huh? cool

I might be having another midlife crisis... Time.. crying

I cried at school.

I cannot exist in the real world.

Which sounded less like a suicide note than it did simply a statement in my head.... sweatdrop
