"... Map of the building?" Cado asked expectantly.

"Building? You're going into a city. This is a full military operation - in the old days, you wouldn't be getting just a couple nine-man squads of mercenaries, you'd be getting a good five hundred troops. No, you've got eight other agents and thirty-six mercenaries.
"I can, however, provide you with Scanner uploads that'll give you blueprints of most everything - if something's missing give me a buzz and we'll take care of it." He handed Cado - and everyone else, for that matter - a Scanner by tossing it in the general direction of their face. "Ooh, and something to have some fun with," he added, throwing a Mindreacher at each of them. "Don't know if you've seen these before," he added; they were little squares, almost. "Hit the button and it sends braaaaaaainwaves. Brainwaves alter their brainwaves, make them have no will but to serve you. With your upgrades and these devices it'll be pretty basic - they'll get a gun and shoot at best, but if you want some extra forces this is the way to go. Or body shields."

"Hmm. So I could turn an enemy into a suicide bomber? Sweet," Cado mused, pocketing both. "How do we ensure nobody, ah, flees the city? Or is that someone else's problem? Also, how big is this city?"

"It's a little more of a town than a city - no skyscrapers, tallest building you'll find is maybe ten stories. It's bigger than a residential suburban town, but it's smaller than a full-scale city. Enemies escaping really don't concern us - we're more interested in the territory than the opponents. That doesn't mean you can't blow stuff up, either," Hades added. "I just don't want to see any opposition left there. Don't blow up everything.
"And don't try using the Mindreacher specifically for another agent - it probably won't work, and they might find some way to hijack it. Mercenaries, all good and fine. Be warned, though, when you turn that thing on it stays on and its broadcast is not focused. You walk close to someone with that thing accidentally on and you'll have a stalker for a good... oh, ten hours."

"I'll keep that in mind," Cado commented. "How much is 'don't blow everything up' literal?" he added.

"Haha," Hades replied dryly, his voice lowering, the waver growing more pronounced; with it he leaned forward. "Go by the spirit of the law and not the letter please. There should be some point here beyond blowing things up. You just have permission to blow things up with relative immunity. So you might enjoy getting an RPG, hmm?"

Cado's eyes widened, which looked quite humorous, considering his lack of eyebrows. "Really?" he asked hopefully.

"Nope. You get a squirt-gun," Hades replied, reaching down behind the desk and... holy crap, was he keeping it behind his desk? He put it on the desk, along with five or six spare rockets beyond the one that was already loaded.

"I'd have gotten you something better, like a Javelin or at least an RPG-9, but the budgets were a'pressin'. Use those rockets wisely - not that we can't get you more but it'll be difficult in the field."

Shae sighed. "Are the mercs separate, or are we using mine and Gabe's men?"
