"Wow, that really sucks." Pi didn't have a clue of what to say. "Even I can use chakra."
"Jeeze thanks for the support." Raine leaned down and started working on another kunai.
"How could you be a ninja if you can't use chakra well?" He said. Raine whipped down instantly and looked the small animal in the eyes.
"You may be small, but I will kick your butt." Pi laughed at him.
"You can try!" Raine rolled his eyes. He stood up, tried concentrating his chakra and threw the Kunai high up into the sky. The thing sort of whistled and made a little pop high above, but there was no explosion. lo

Hey, be quiet for a second so I can focus." Raine said as he held the new tag in his hand. He worked his finger around on the tag trying to work some chakra into his fingers.
"I don't think my talking has anything to do with you failing." Pi said. Raine didn't bother responding. He just took a deep breath and threw the kunai high up into the air. It went far in the dark, yet this time it didn't whistle, it didn't pop and it definitely didn't explode. Raine sunk his head, training always hurt his self-esteem.
"Told ya."

Raine was quiet for a moment. Pi shook his head, maybe he had gone too far with the last joke? He made a little sigh to himself. "Hey big guy, why do you have to beat this Xen guy anyway. Isn't he the one with the crazy a** bird flying around trying to eat me?"
Raine managed to laugh a little bit, he thought of all that had happened between him and Xen. From their first fight in the dojo to when he had been under that horrible genjutsu. Just remembering made his stomach turn. "I was supposed to deliver this letter to Kimiko's mom. From some weird guy I met in Rima's place." Raine leaned down to make another tag, tying the string slowly while he spoke. "And then I got mugged in an alley by some drunk guy and he ripped it in half. So I read it. It was by some crazy lady who wanted to kill Xen. So I promised myself I would protect him. But I can't do that if he's better than me." Raine threw up the Kunai and watched it pop into a small light, but nothing like the explosion it was supposed to be.

"I can't protect anyone if I can't even beat him." The words set down their weight on Raine. He knew this but he had never said it. Xen represented all that was opposite of him and he just had to win. He had to work to win, and he would never stop working again if it just meant that he could win in a fight.
"Well, that's not true is it." Pi spoke. Raine looked down to him.
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm just saying that just because you're not stronger than him doesn't mean you can't protect someone. Trust me Raine the is no way to be the best." The boy scoffed.
"Now, there is something that's not true." He knew in his heart he could be the best of the best if he didn't everything in his power to get there. The world was limitless depending on how hard you wanted to work. He held the Kunai in his hand close to his chest as he thought and soon enough he felt as if the metal was burning him. Raine flung it up high into the sky, some how he just knew that this time it would really work. As he watched he said to Pi. "Now you'll see." The thing didn't whistle at all this time, but Raine wasn't worried. He watched it vanish into the turning sky and just as he lost it, it exploded. This one was even large than the last one. in the dim light that was cast down on them Raine was smiling.

Raine hopped up. Elated after proving his point, or so he felt. The small boy looked out over the rice fields as the light from the explosion fell from the sky. "I bet we're waking people up." he laughed to himself.
Pi pulled himself up. "What are you talking about "us"?!" He joined in. "You get into all of your own trouble."
Raine wasn't really listening, he was already working of attaching another exploding tag to the Kunai. "It's not trouble. It's learning." He laughed to himself. "Jeeze, Pi don't you ever have fun?" He stood up a flung the Kunai high up into the sky. It made such an explosion that heat burst back at them and Raine's hair blew back. For a moment he and Pi were utterly speechless. But Raine broke the silence by throwing his arms up and jumping.
"YEAH!!!" He clenched his fist in joy.
"Yeah, I have fun when you're not harassing me and exploding the sky."

"Oh come on!" He was too excited to focus, and quickly ran over to work on another tag. "That was freaking awesome!" he quickly slapped a tag on the Kunai and turned to Pi. "You have to admit."
A loud whistle broke into the conversation. Raine and Pi looked down to the tag in front of them it was burning in Raine's hand.
"AHHHH!!! THROW IT!" Pi screamed. Raine whipped up and flung it as fast as he could. The tag didn't have much time to get distance. And it popped in front of them. The force and heat smashed back at them and Raine fell on his butt looking completely dazed. "Jeeze, Raine wait to almost kill us."
"Ah.... Sorry...."

Raine sat on the coarse dirt road for a while. His face slightly singer with smoke. "Wow." Pi pulled himself out of the boys pocket.
"Now that was just stupid. You realize you're playing with explosives!" Raine looked down at the little worm-lizard crawling at hi waist. Pi had gotten a bit bigger since last he had seen him.
"Well. I didn't know you could do that." He started picking himself up off of the ground and put Pi in his hand. "Really, I promise I'll be more careful."
The ajolote nodded. an wiggled his way back down to his shorts so he cut lie in his pocket again. Raine went back to the Kunai, and grabbed one, carefully pulling out a tag and tying it gingerly. He was very hesitant to put any chakra into the thing again, and decided just to throw it and hope it worked. Of course it didnt. Instead it simply plopped into the water far away. He looked into the turning sky. The sun was coming out behind him near mount oto.

"Well Don't get discouraged. Who knew you to be afraid of something." Raine looked back.
"Hey I'm not afraid. I'm just being careful. And I already told you this is hard for me." he took a deep breath. While making another exploding tag.
"Raine, this whole thing about Chakra being hard. I think you can get over it."
Raine stopped his fingers working. He had heard the statement too many times and it really cooled his head. "Get over it? I can't just get over it. No one understands." he sighed. Everyone thought he was just stupid and the only thing that worked were his muscles. It wasn't true, no one understood how much hard work, energy, and thought he put into training and fighting. Raine quickly flipped up the Kunai. It didn't explode just as he expected.
"Well, you're the one who said you could do anything, if you just work hard." Raine sighed yet again, he did have a point.

For a fleeting instance he remembered Kossori saying kind things the night before. His chest rose with the feeling of honor and good doing. The way Kossori had looked at him and the way he had so quickly hugged him.
"Yeah Pi. I guess you're right. That is what I think. It's so hard though." he sighed, Picking up another Kunai and placing a tag on it's back. He held the the tag in his hands for a moment. It was odd, only when he cleared his head and thought of wonderful things like that could harness his chakra. his fingers even sort of glowed this time and he sent the kunai high into the air. The light hit it now and he could see it much better. He watched a small flame start and than it almost instantly exploded, it wasn't as large as others he had created but none-the-less it was a proper explosion for once.

"Ah there we go." Raine said, as he watched the sparks fall down. Pi nodded.
"Yep there you go."
Raine picked up another Kunai, slowly tying on the exploding tag. He knotted the small white string while staring at his fingertips. "You know this isn't so much hard as it is long. It just takes such a long time to do anything." He looked down at the rest of the Kunai. "And I sure hope I don't run out of these." he gestured down. He had only bought twenty but tat seemed like more than enough at the time. Not only that, but it he ever actually wanted to use that he would have to buy a lot more. As soon as he finished Raine calmy tried to build chakra and flung out the Kunai over the glittering water. Once again it popped, and this time the Kunai probably got damaged.

Raine wondered if he should go out in the rice field and pick up all of the kunai he had thrown out there. However, it was a pretty impractical thought even if he really wanted to do that. "Pi you think those Kunai out there will be trouble to people. You know farmers and stuff." He scratched his head, but pulled out another one anyway.
"I don't know, Raine. I really don't think so though." the little creature turned his head thinking about it. "It's getting to be winter and they already took the harvest so there won't be people in here for a while. Maybe they will be buried for a while." Raine shook his head in agreement. Throwing up the Kunai.
"That makes sense."

The last kunai hit the water, and Raine was already tying on another one, whether they exploded or not he really wanted to be done with training. Now the sun was rising and he was getting more than bored. As he fastened on the tag he remembered the story Pi had told him last time they trained.
"Hey Pi?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you tell me another one of your cactus stories or something. I'm getting really bored of this, and when people talk it helps me sometimes." He held the tag in his hang like he had countless times before while staring out over the water and waiting for an answer.
"Um yeah...." He was quiet trying to think of a good story. "Of I've got it." Raine flung out the kunai and watched it disappear without exploding.

"K go for it I'm listening." Raine squatted down and worked, waiting for Pi to start with the show. The tiny creature let out a maniacal laugh, but from such a little voice Raine couldn't held snickering to himself.
"This is a story about a man, he is more than a man though. He is a legend. Some will wonder, is he a man, is he a spirit, is he even a man at all. Because this story is about the Doppelganger." Raine nodded he had never heard of such a person, it could be interesting.

"It is not known where the Doppleganger comes from, or who he truly is. He wears a porcelain mask to hide his face, and a white wig to cover his hair. White and gray fine kimono's cover every inch of his body. He is the master of all illusion and controls the very wind itself." Pi paused for effect. Raine had finished making another explosive Kunai, yet he held onto it. [
b]"He is one of the most powerful ninja to ever live and it is unknown if he has died. Most believe it is impossible. The most horrifying fact of the Doppleganger, is that if you ever see an inch of his skin, if you somehow find out his name, or where he comes from. He will come for you. And then he will put you into the most horrifying genjutsu until he sucks out your soul." Raine thought of the genjutsu that Xen had put him under. What could possibly more horrifying than that? The thought just made him sick. He tried pulling chakra up from inside him. But when he threw the thing, it only sizzled before being dosed in water.

Raine looked down at his supply. He only had thee Kunai left. Hmmm..." It should be enough, he felt like he was getting a hang of this.
Pi looked up. "Isn't that frightening. He said. Raine kind of shrugged as he made the exploding Kunai.
"I guess. I mean I wouldn't really think so. He's not even real." Pi laughed at him.
"Of course he is real. He is the one who practically made the genjutsu art. He started the first ninja village hundreds and hundreds of years ago. He is the great doppleganger. Never ever underestimate that, or he will get you. You see, it is said that he comes from a nowhere land where only nowhere people exist. People who do not have eyes or mouths or skin." Raine flung the Kunai up and it gave a great explosion interrupting Pi, who quickly resumed his story. "And because he left this land he is wanted by the nowhere people and they follow him everywhere. To keep hidden he kills anyone who knows anything about him and then he flees into the minds of those he kills. He knows of everyone who ever says his name. He's probably even watching us right now." Pi stopped and looked around.
"That's just creeoy Pi."
