Toby's voice lowered.
"Vampire. Lives among the humans no problem, even shaves his teeth down. Never killed a soul. His clan's got a good system going." But he wasn't going to get into that, because it was a bit gruesome. Besides, he was only here traveling with a troupe; the clan existed out in Pennsylvania and they had sent blood with him, as well as set up some stops along the way. They really were good people... maybe a little odd, but good at heart.

It took Maia a moment to recover. She hadn't expected that. "Huh, I wasn't aware we had any around here." She flipped through the playbill. "Does he have a big part?"

"Well they're from Pennsylvania," Toby said with a shrug, righting in his seat again, "The weather in Arizona isn't too vampire-friendly. They do pass through though." He looked down at the playbill and nodded. "Just wait, you'll see." He was a male lead, after all! There were three, admittedly, but it was a small cast.

"No, I didn't think it would be," Maia agreed. She closed the playbill and looked towards the stage. When would it start? "Did you read a lot of Shakespeare in school?" she asked.

"I had to take a Shakespeare class in college so I read a fair amount then, but in high school only the one. No, no, two. I read Macbeth too."
People were still being seated, and luckily the elderly couple in front of them was relatively short. Was he older than them, he wondered?
It wasn't long before the lights dimmed and a murmur went through the crowd. It was starting! The curtains rose and the main players began to enter, and Toby leaned in and pointed for their vampire buddy. "There he is."

A class just on Shakespeare? Huh. "What were you studying?" she wondered. She'd considered going into oceanology before deciding to work for the bureau.
The lights dimmed and Maia straightened, looking at the man indicated. So he was a main character! She took Toby's hand and smiled.

"Business," Toby said with a nod. But so much for that. He'd met the age requirement for the Bureau and that was enough for them to try and hold on once he'd passed through his crippling depression.
Toby squeezed Maia's hand and shifted to sit comfortably while the play began. Even if she didn't understand the words, she would understand the emotions.

Business? Maia was surprised by that answer, but didn't comment on it. He'd been right though; it was easier to understand when it was spoken. So these four people were in love?

When the play was over and the cast had bowed, people began to leave their seats and file out of the theater. Toby turned to Maia.
"Who was your favorite?"

Maia thought for a moment. "Puck, I think," she said. "He's funny." She offered Toby her hand."I really liked it," She said, and smiled at him. "The fairy queen wasn't at all like the one we met."

Toby nodded. He had expected that.
"I'm glad! And yeah, Shakespeare went kind of Greek Gods with the fairies. I'm not sure why." He shrugged and let go of Maia's hand just to wrap his arm around her waist. "Do you want to go out and see if we can meet some of the actors?"

"Greek myths are a bit...odd," Maia said, and looked to Toby. "Zeus cheated on his wife with any number of people, and a goat, if I remember. I didn't read much further."
She smiled at the next question. "That'd be fun. Maybe we can see your friend?"

"And he had sex with a woman while he was a swan. Somehow." Toby shook his head again. "Their gods were flawed, like people, but then they had that extra bit of crazy."
He held the door open for Maia and the two elderly woman behind her, telling each of them 'you're welcome' as they thanked him, then met up with Maia again.
"Sure. I was one of his clan's case workers, just because there's so many of them. He's really easy to get along with."
Everyone else was heading toward the parking lot or deeper into the city where ever their cars or apartments were, but Toby headed around the building toward the back entrance with the few other knowledgeable audience members. A few actors had already dribbled into the alleyway.

God's made bigger mistakes than humans, she supposed. More power obviously led to more crazy.
She took Toby's hand when he caught up to her. "I'm just glad we don't have to deal with those guys," she said. "Imagine, someone blasting people with lightning." She followed him; most people seemed to be headed towards their cars. "Can you see him?" she asked.

Toby could not see him, and so resorted to yelling.
"Lysander?!" He'd been answering to it for weeks now, it might still work, and if not, "Danny?!"
A face peeked out from the side door, makeup roughly wiped off around wide eyes. When the vampire saw Toby he grinned and shuffled out to shake his hand.
"Hey, Danny," Toby said.
"Hello, you! I wasn't expecting to see you tonight." Danny was clearly Irish, although his accent throughout the play had been gently English. "And who is this pretty young lady?"
"This is my girlfriend, Maia."
"It's nice to meet you, Maia!" Danny said, then took her hand and kissed her on the cheek. "Did you like the play?"
