"I don't know about Tao specifically, but I do know there are many types of creatures, and I'm sure there are pets that are bred to be protectors..."
Lin trailed off, to be honest she didn't know all the types of pets that could exist in the world Gaia, though she learned it could be quite large and varied.
"Mom would probably have a better idea than myself."
Since she had chosen the pet for both Haven and River.

Earendil nodded. "I would suggest we ask Shiro, but I guess there's not much point in thinking too much about it before we get there, right?"
They had plenty of time, after all. He just hoped that nothing would happen again like had happened in the Human Southland before they managed to find something to help their children to defend themselves. A number of those who had fought with them were gone from the group. Sure, they had Lancaeriel with them now, and who knew how helpful she would be? But they didn't know, which was the point.

"Right," Lin nodded, "But it's something to consider when we get there. After all, we're going to probably head to the market at least once anyways."
She couldn't have Earendil come with her and not visit Gaia's market at least once. Especially if she chose the weekend market, then it would ensure that they were items that were crafted instead of factory made.

"I'd like that," Earendil smiled. "I've heard about it and I have to admit it sounds quite intriguing. Shiro gives a pretty good description, and Kaito likes to go on and on about the food ..."
He chuckled. "I have to say, Kaito may be predictable, but he's pretty good with descriptions."

Lin had to laugh at that, because it sounded very much like Kaito to describe all the stalls that would sell street food and any good restaurants that were in the area.
"To be fair he's quite enthusiastic about the food..."
Though she had to admit that did bring something up in her mind. Maybe it was just where she visited, but the only time one brought food already made was at an inn or someone who specialized in a certain food type. Were there food stalls, cafes or resturants anywhere in this world?

Earendil grinned and shrugged. "That's Kaito for you," he said simply.
They checked on the children (Andarien was already asleep) before they headed back to their own room for the night. The following morning, after breakfast, they sent Miyuki and Andarien off with River and Aranxia so that the two of them could have that talk with Daeron and Iorlas that they had been promised.
"You know, it's almost scary, how nothing has changed here other than Tinuviel having a family now," Daeron remarked as the four of them walked together through the courtyard. He was looking around at the flowers and such when he spoke.
Earendil smiled faintly. "Well, you know how things go," he quipped. "Mother takes charge of the courtyard as she always has, and she has her favourites. But really, it's past time that you met Aranel and Regan and Aranxia."
"Princess Regan is already an adult, yes?" Iorlas spoke up, her voice softer than usual.
Earendil nodded. "Not that she acts it."

Lin giggled at that comment, "Give her time, and yes.. I know it's been plenty of time, but give her time to settle down with someone and then you'll see. Arwen was the same, though not as much as Aliya and River."
While Aliya and River were distantly related, Lin saw it in Arwen as well and even...
"And don't forget what Leyenda use to be like," she added absently.

"That's true," Earendil agreed. "Though I think Arwen and Leyenda still have it in them to be silly. I have to say, though, I've never seen Aliya being silly ..."
"Nor have I," Daeron spoke up, "but I've heard tales. Trust me. It went far past silly."
His comment drew a small smile from Iorlas, but she said nothing.

"It was like having another Feng around," Lin murmured.
Though Feng was getting somewhat better since Naida was around, at least she hadn't tried any crazy stunts. Though that seemed to be sometimes Naida's cup of tea.
"Which was funny because Ryu and Feng hung out with Aliya before she married, so Ryu had someone just like his sister to deal with."

At Iorlas's confused look, Daeron explained to her who Feng and Ryu were.
"Ah," she murmured after his explanation. "I see." She smiled, but it was a weak smile, and Earendil found his concern from the night before returning.
"Iorlas, are you all right?" he asked her. "You're quite different from how you used to be. You seem very tired ..."
"I am," she admitted softly. "Very tired, and very weak. I feel as if the slightest wind could blow me over."

"From your task?" Lin asked carefully.
She didn't want to pry and she was worried. Perhaps they should let Iorlas rest then?

Iorlas shook her head. "The only thing from that that is still affecting me is this," she said quietly, indicating the cut across her cheekbone. "I'm just ... still getting used to being elven. It's not the same as taking an elven form and still being a dragon. I have to get used to the lack of strength."
"Perhaps we should get Alassëa to examine you," Daeron suggested anxiously. "It's been a few weeks now and I'm not sure you're getting better yet ..."
"Not yet," Iorlas said firmly. "The cut is healing, and I may just need to get used to being a different creature now. She would not be able to help me with that."

That was true, Lin looked thoughtful. It was different she supposed knowing and feeling it wasn't your original form to it being your original form. While she didn't have the ability to shift shapes herself (and pulling in wings didn't quite count), she knew from watching the mers they would always prefer their true form over whatever other form they were capable of taking.
"I can't disagree with that, but if you feel like you need to rest, do tell us."
So they wouldn't be taking up Iorlas' time, where she could be resting and recovering.

Iorlas shook her head, but she smiled at Lin. "Thank you, but we're going to be in the city until winter is over, yes?"
At Daeron's nod, she continued. "That will be enough time for me to rest, I hope. In the meantime, I would like very much to see everything here, and meet everyone."
"How was it, meeting Mother last night?" Earendil asked Iorlas cautiously. He was a bit anxious, knowing how excited Luthien had been to meet Iorlas.
Iorlas smiled sheepishly, and Daeron chuckled. "Once she saw how tired Iorlas was, she was fine. For a few moments, though, I was certain she was going to smother Iorlas with all the attention she was giving her."

Lin giggled, "I can see that, she was so excited when we arrived, though I admit she was speechless when we told her about you two."
At first Lin had thought something was wrong, but apparently it was so much of a shock that Luthien didn't squeal that one time.
