"Dari's great for trivia. If we ever get into a situation where random facts are necessary, he's on my team." She smiled at him. "Probably. Understanding is easier than speaking, and speaking is easier than reading." She finished getting dressed and sat next to him.

"I've seen what humans think flower fairies look like. Forever babies and the like."

"Trivial Pursuit is no fun with him," Toby admitted. He shook his head with a grin and then nodded at Maia's evaluation. It was true.

"Well, they definitely are small, but not forever babies. Where did you see that? They're just slender little... people."

Maia pulled out her phone and googled flower fairies. She set it on image search and offered it to him. "It says the lady who did those books invented flower fairies. But I think she must've seen one at some point." A young one. "But see? They're all kids."
PostPosted: Tue Mar 29, 2016 7:34 pm

"Or she guessed," Toby said, took the phone, and furrowed his brow. "Why do they all look like children? And why are they all female?!" He'd have brought up his own classified files on his phone if it was possible. They were just people was all. Little, lanky people who sometimes gave birth and sometimes were born from flowers.

"Invented flower fairies... You know once two girls cut out paper dolls from a fairy book and had the entire world believing that fairies were real for decades? Even though they were unaltered from the original book. All the while, real fairies lived their own damn lives. There really aren't any more in populated areas, though. It gets dangerous. Humans are careless, and flower fairies can't exactly fight back."

Maia snickered at Toby's reaction. She kissed his cheek. "I don't know, maybe she read Peter Pan before drawing them." Humans were strange, after all.

"Really? And they didn't think it was strange they didn't move?"
PostPosted: Tue Mar 29, 2016 7:58 pm

"I always thought Peter Pan was pretty creepy," Toby said. He put the phone aside and looked to Maia like she had three heads.

"...move? It wasn't a video it-- ... Maia it was a photo from like... 1910." He grinned and leaned over to kiss Maia's hand. "I'll bother Dari to find them some time. Knowing what they are it's silly, but at least people still hoped magic was real back then."

"I didn't like Peter Pan," Maia said, making a face. "Was it?" she asked. "One photo convinced people?" She'd been imagining a series of photos, at least.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 29, 2016 8:09 pm

"There might have been like...two or three? I think there was more than one. I can picture one in my head," Toby said, flopping back on the bed and making his thinking-face and the ceiling. He knew there were two sisters, but he could only remember one.

"Anyway. Are you ready to go? It's always better to get there early and sit around rather than having to butt-shuffle through lines of people."

"I'm ready," Maia said, pulling on her shoes and standing. She offered Toby a hand. "Do you think we'll get a good seat?"
PostPosted: Tue Mar 29, 2016 8:18 pm

Toby grabbed the envelope that held their tickets off the TV stand and smiled to her, offering her his hand.

"We already have assigned seats. I think they're pretty good." Going to watch plays wasn't really 'in' any more. It had been pretty easy to secure some low-center seats.

Maia took his hand and smiled. Assigned seats. Right! That made things easier. She was looking forward to it; her first play, and it was about fairies!

"Lets go," she said. Better to get there before the crowd.

The drive wasn't especially long, but parking was a bit of a debacle, as per usual. Even getting into the reserved spaces was a little rough. They were early enough, though, to hand over their tickets and have an user bring them to their seats with almost no waiting. They were on the first floor and centered, with stadium-style seating so petite Maia could see over who ever sat in front of her. There were no set pieces out before the closed curtain, and no shimmery lights. It definitely belied the magic and fantasy to come later. He turned to Maia and smiled.

"Are you excited?"

"Yes," Maia said, giving Toby a smile. She took his hand and gave it another squeeze. "I've never been in a theater like this," She said. "Well. I haven't been in one, ever, except for movies."
PostPosted: Tue Mar 29, 2016 9:07 pm

Toby looked around the building at the pillars and golden embellishments, the painting ceiling and the elaborately-carved proscenium. It was funny how much work went into making the theater pretty when really it only served to entertain for the time before the lights went down. It was like the pre-show spectacle, and that was that. Nobody thought about it as they left at the end of the night.

"Here, let me show you something," Toby said. He flipped through the playbill he'd been handed and came to a particular actor. He pointed to his smiling face.

"The guy playing Lysander, he's one of our clients."

Maia took the playbill and studied the actor indicated. "Oh?" she asked, intrigued. "What species?" Was that rude? She'd never met the guy.
