Reeve blinks. "Solid metal naginata? Metal kunai, metal tessen, metal naginata...darlin', we've got to teach you Raijutsu just so you can hold onto your gear. A good rainin could take advantage of the metal, that he could."

Iri blinks. Then she looks down at the weapons hanging from her belt and the weapon she's leaning on. "Hmm... You have a good point there. Bad thing is, I've always been skeptical as to whether I can use an element besides kaze. I don't know if being a wind adept will interfere or not."

Reeve takes his own private half-second to remember coming to the dojo for the first time- nervous, polite, and....a lot younger. He'd been hardly more than a kid. "When I first came, I wanted to study kaze- Rai was my second choice because we never found a permenant kaze sensei. But..all that's by the by. What's a wind adept?

"I'm a wind adept." Iri closes her eyes and thinks for a moment. No one's asked about this in a long time. Then again, it's been a long time since she brought it up. "It's a genetic trait that's been passed down through my family. I think you might call it a bloodline trait. Anyway, it means that every time I summon up my chakra, the air responds. Doesn't matter if I'm transferring energy like I did with Sage's kunai or actually summoning wind currents; every time, the air will respond. I think you can see how that would interfere with using other elements, especially ho or mizu. Not sure if it would have much of an effect on rai or tsuchi..."

Reeve snaps his fingers mock-ruefully. "Now that I know why the wind seems to blow where you walk, it's not as amazing," he says with a chuckle. Getting back on track, he shakes his head. "I don't see it being a problem with learning Rai eventually. You can't blow lightning..."

Iri rolls her eyes at Reeve's first statement. First the joke about "blowing" and now this. The next thing he says makes her think a bit more. "True. And it would certainly be handy to have experience in another element. Kaze doesn't always do the trick."
The girl sighs and looks to one side. Taking up a new element would be fun. But could she do that? She believes there are rules that typically restrict newbs like herself to one element. And she'd also want to seek Nyl's advice first. Iri gives a mental shrug. Not like she has to make any decisions tonight.
"I'll have to think on that some more."

"Okay. No rush." He stretches languidly and rests his arm on his swordhilt. "Sorry if I made you worry over where it was, by the way."

The girl raises an eyebrow at the word "it". For a moment, she honestly doesn't know what he's talking about. Then her lips form an "o" of realization. Iri shakes her head and smiles. "Nah, I knew it couldn't have gone far. Just didn't want it to get lost or ruined like my poor book."

Now it's Reeve's turn to look puzzled. "Arrah, your book got ruined?"

"Do you recall me running toward the trees after you signaled me with your foxfire?" Iri shakes her head and gives him an expression of mock sadness. "It was my book that I lost. Dropped it in a creek. By the time I found it, nothing was legible. Not a big deal, but you have to understand that I've had that book for years. And I lost all that great poetry."

"Aww, Iri! That's terrible!" Reeve frowns, trying to think of a way to fix the situation. "That really is a shame..."

Iri giggles and steps forward to place her free hand on Reeve's shoulder. "It's okay! Most of what was in that book is in my head anyway. And now I have an excuse to get a new book and start over."

Reeve smiles. "I did notice you took the loss rather lightly. I-" He stops to stifle a yawn, then continues, "think there's a blank notepad on the desk in my room. Not a book, but it's a start...as for me, I think I'm gonna sleep. Waited all night for y'Iri!"

Iri's expression softens. "Sorry for keeping you waiting. I'll make it up to you sometime, hm?" She turns around and starts toward the dojo. "Mind if I go with you?"

"What makes you think I would?," he asks with a smile. Taking her hand in his, he walks back to the dojo.
