"We'll keep working on that later. Now go ahead and bring your temperature back down, Nyl. Take it slowly and even yourself out. Then I want you to go ahead and try dropping your temperature."
He looked to Mai. "It's not the usefulness of the cube, this is to focus your chakra. If you can consistently alternate between spheres and cubes, I'll be satisfied that you can control your chakra enough to move you on to the next lesson."

Nyl let out a breath, thrilled to be dropping back to something that resembled a normal temperature.
What? Cold? But-- 'Everything you've got, right?' ...Whoa. ...But yeah.
She needed a minute, though. Her reaction to such extreme heat hadn't been promising.

Seph watched Nyl. "We can take a quick break. I had tons of problems with this lesson, that's why I wanted to do it next to the stream."

Something hardened in her expression.
"No. It's okay. ...It's just hard to convince myself that something isn't wrong with me."

Seph had figured the idea of a break would motivate her. "Nothing's wrong, not with your Ho, at least. Go ahead and start dropping your body temperature. Don't go too low, though, we don't want a case of hypothermia on our hands." He grinned.

"Yeah, well, that'd be the problem, now wouldn't it?"
She disapproved of such underhanded tactics to get her back together. ...She disapproved more because it worked.
Nyl shut her eyes again and almost immediately started to get cold.

Jeez.
He only nodded in response to her comment, keeping his face passive. "Try to keep the temperature change internal, or at the very least, very close to your body. I don't want to feel cold until I touch you."

For some reason, cold felt easier. She suspected she was doing it wrong because of this, but refused to gratify him with stopping. ...It got annoying once she started to shiver, though.

Contrary to her belief, her stopping would not gratify him in the least. He had used such underhanded tactics in order to keep her going, not to stop her.
"Don't push yourself too far. Stop whenever you feel yourself going numb or, worse, weak in the knees, then bring it back up to normal."

Yeah, he about has it... 'Dont. You. Dare.' ...Maybe I am losing it.
Despite - because of? - the conversation going on in her mind, Nyl found herself forced to stop. The shaking wasn't just coming from being cold anymore - it was anger at Seph's tricking her that kept her from dropping to her knees on the ground.

A 'no' worked its way into her mind, but couldn't quite make it to being spoken. She shook her head, instead.

He approached her, hands on her shoulders. ~What's wrong? Is it the temperature?~ He almost began heating his hands, but held off until she answered.

~Just stand there. ...Can't hold myself up and do this all at once.~
She drew in a breath, and let it out again - by the end of it, she'd warmed up considerably, but almost all of her weight was leaning into Seph's hands.
"D-don't know why Ho always takes s-so much of my energy..." she muttered, wiping her forehead with the back of one hand, irritably.

He gave a relieved smile. "It's a stressful job." He winked at her, "Y'okay, now?"
