"Nothing. It's beautiful," he said, and tried to find his star again. He could see it from the ground! "And now I can think of you."

Dari Smiled and touched Cody's face. He was so in love. Tears worried his boyfriend, he knew that, and he had tried to keep them back, but they had fought him. It was just silent tears. Just tears of happiness and love.
"I am so lucky to have you," he said, stealing a kiss and then pulling Cody back to him. "I'm just happy. You are my everything."

"I'm lucky to have ran into you," Cody muttered. "I never knew it'd lead to this, when I asked you on that first date. I'm so glad I did." He kissed Dari. "I love you."

"Me neither." Dari nuzzled Cody and kissed his cheek. "I love you too."
Their lips met, and he couldn't help but smile into the kiss. He'd done it. He'd achieved what he was so jealous of for so long, and he had excelled beyond. He deepened the kiss and stroked Cody's curls. He'd never imagined that it could feel like this. Love without tragedy was earth-shattering.

Cody snuggled against Dari, listening to his heart. "Happy birthday darling," he said. He reached and caressed his cheek.

Oh right. It was his birthday. A broader smile crossed Dari's face and he wiped away the tears on his cheeks before stealing one final kiss and laying down to admire Cody's face.

Cody returned the kiss happily, and laid there beside Dari, still amazed at how lucky he'd been to find Dari. His secret agent, his true love. He tried to keep his eyes open, but struggled and his eyes fluttered close for a moment before he opened them and studied Dari with a look of warm affectionmHe wrapped an arm around him and nuzzled in to the crook of his neck.

This was big. Huge. The largest step Toby had taken in the last 40 years. It only made sense that he should bring his best friend for support. Dari held the door to the jeweler's open and Toby stepped in looking totally overwhelmed. Right. Engagement rings.

An elderly woman, perhaps in her early sixties, seemed to notice Toby immediately. She was dressed nicely, in a green pantsuit with a brooch. Ah, young love. The kid looked so overwhelmed--proposing, maybe?
"What are you looking for today?" she asked. "Can I help?"

"Boy, I really hope so," Toby said with a little laugh. Dari, beside him, just clasped his hands behind his back and smiled. "I'm here for an engagement ring? Everywhere I looked said here was the place to go." s**t, had he cleared his internet history?! Yeah. Yeah, he had. Maia had no reason to go on there anyway, he wasn't sure why he was so nervous.

Ah, so she'd guessed right. She gave him a smile and led him over to a large glass counter. "They'd be right," she said. "We have several varities. Different cuts--were you looking for something in particular?"

Toby followed the woman to the particular counter and looked in. Ah, so many glittery things, and really any of them could be an engagement ring.
"Oh, uh. I'm not really-- I know what I'm not looking for," Toby said, "Does that help?"
Dari leaned over the case, admiring the gems and trying to think in terms of Maia.

"What aren't you looking for?" the clerk asked, and looked from the counter to Toby. "Tell me about this person," She prompted. She almost said 'lady', nut that was no longer politically correct. "Then we might be able to find something together."

"Well I'm not looking for 'big' or 'bling-y,' and really I'm not even sure a diamond is the right way to go." In fact he was pretty sure it wasn't. "She's sweet. Loves the beach and the ocean. Uh. Favorite color is blue? Hm." His eyes flickered from ring to ring. Which one matched Maia? "She's sort of petite and covered in freckles. Humble too, so nothing flashy."

The beach and ocean--Hm. The woman looked towards a selection of non-diamond rings, pausing and looking to Toby. "We have a number of sapphire engagement rings," She offered, giving Toby a smile. "Would she like one of these?"
