Nova perked her head up and looked at Korix, looking him up and down with a low hiss. She was always weary of smooth talking men. In her experience that always ended up in trouble for her.

As the man on the stage packed his things, Tomlin waved a waitress over.

"Yes?" she said, this waitress a bit more chipper than the one from last night.

"A bit of breakfast, if you will. Eggs and bacon, if you have it. And a bit of honey mead." he mused before glancing at the bar.

Leana and the gentleman from last night were talking...

And then he remembered.

"Oi~!" he said, rising from his chair and adjusting his hat. He scratched his chin, heading their way.

Dark blue eyes were fixed upon the paladin as she crossed the floor, and pale hands grasped a cold and lifeless one firmly as if Merro feared to be torn away from it.

Give him back to me, was the unspoken plea in the eyes locked on Sentelle and the thought in her mind directed toward heaven.

Merro was in a new frame of mind or state of being for the moment. She was worn out in every way possible and only the life energies of the werewolf were keeping her famished frame from fainting away in protest at this unusual treatment. Letalus was fast conquering the territory of her mind as she faced death at such close distance - both physically and to the heart - for the first time in all her years. Remembering also the times he'd scorned her for a highborn in addition to the times he'd shown her rough or casual care, and recalling again that desire to escape her own self as well as the physical cage of her father's keep, the confused and lonesome young woman rebelled now against the Kisan blood within her own body and manner.

Her lips pressed hard shut and her eyes still locked upon Sentelle, she thrust aside the lingering ungracious thoughts that with Letalus' death came freedom. Were he dead or alive her escape was not certain. If it was her fate to live and die under her father's hand then let it be so, but she would escape the qualities within her that she loathed in her lord father. Let those cold grey eyes never look down upon her so again; let that penetrating voice never again be used so harshly against her.

Let him be restored, and I be reborn, she thought desperately, half prayer, half vow taken upon the man's cold dead fingers. She had no one in the world to call her own in any way save a father who hated her. This man scolded her like an equal yet also saved her time and again, and perhaps it was only out of duty to his master yet he was still the only one to show care over whether she lived or died. If it wouldn't be so utterly ridiculous she would have named him friend.

A young noblewoman's oaths sometimes only lasted as long as it took to say them, and Merro was neither pious nor self-sacrificing, except that for the moment...she was both.

As Sentelle met Merro's gaze her heart sank, her being seemed to trembled though she was not visibly shaky, her steps faltered. Her eyes did not leave Merro's, but her focus had turned inward. "Please, let him be restored to me." she prayed cradling Avery's lifeless form in her arms."

A familar voice, both strong and comforting, answered her plea, "Now is not the time for this Sentelle."

Jarred from her reverie Sentelle closed the gap between herself and Merro. She held out the sword, "It reads 'the essence of sacrifice.' Does this not stir in you a caution?"

Merro blinked and stared for a few heartbeats in incomprehension, as if Sentelle had spoken in a language completely unfamiliar to her.

"I knew that one of the words read 'sacrifice,'" she said haltingly, and then burst out despite herself, "But surely the sword can wait? Will you not attempt to restore him to me first?" Her words came tumbling out unwillingly and with more unguarded emotion in them than Merro would have thought possible had she been granted the ability to forsee this scene between them.

Of course, if she had foreseen her behavior and words she might have died of shock.

"Oh no, not the blushing again." Korix laughed. "I'm not trying to emberass you. It's just that when I saw you I remebered the drink I had offered to buy you last night and that I never got the chance after the whole, you know, chicken thing. A guy's got to keep his promises or people might start to think he can't be trusted." Having said that Korix remembered the reward he still owed. Another promise he would have to keep, though he had made sure to have removed the artifact he supposed to be a magical scrying device from the bag last night - as well as a few coins for his own troubles.

At this same time Kaydee, in her carying pouch at Korix's side, heard a hissing sound that grabbed her immediate attention. She peeked out of the bag then scurried atop Korix's shoulders. She flicked out her tongue a few times, clearly viewing the furry critter on the bar as a potential tasty meal.

Leana felt a bit awkward. Was this boy hitting on her? She'd hardly interacted with him the day before, and hoped he wasn't expecting anything more from her.

Secondly, the drink he owed her...she hoped he wasn't going to buy it for her right now. She enjoyed having drinks, but not so early in the morning. She didn't know what to do if he did go and buy her something...she knew she wasn't going to drink it.

But then she noticed Nova's behavior. Following, the familiar of the boy's appeared and looked over at the ferret rather oddly. Leana moved her shoulder between them, blocking the lizard's view of her friend, in case it tried to attack.

Then she saw Tomlin walking over. Perhaps he could distract Korix so she could grab Nova and head back upstairs. She was feeling uncomfortable. And she really wanted to know what was going on with Merro and Sentelle...she'd decided...she wanted to try her hand at the door to see if she could unlock it. They may not like it though.

She smiled at Korix. "I think someone's trying to get your attention, however."

Sentelle nodded and set the sword aside. Turning her attention to Letalus she took a deep breath.. 'I will tend to Letalus as best as I am able'. Her earlier words to Merro came back to her. But what am I able to do for a golem? He has no lifeforce that I am familiar with. I am trained in mending flesh and human frailty.

'I do not want to give you a false hope, but it is possible to call a willing spirit back from death.' Once more a vision flashed in her mind of a marking where Letalus' soul resided. She did not now wish to bring this mark to light, she wished only to search for its presence. Carefully Sentelle placed her hand on Letalus' cold chest. What now will I find? she wondered to herself.

Letalus groaned suddenly, the pallor of his skin warming only slightly. He opened his eyes, the pupils impossibly huge for a brief second before dilating. Wordlessly, he stared up at Sentelle, vague confusion furrowing his brow. When he spoke, his voice was the same low, quiet growl it had always been.

"What are you doing?"

She'd had no preformed ideas of what a resurrection attempt would entail, but if asked about it Merro would have definitely come up with a scenario that involved more than a mere touch to the chest. Feeling - and probably looking - as stunned as a dove that had been smacked out of the clear blue sky by a ball-tipped arrow, she gasped out his name without realizing she'd spoken and continued to clutch at his fingers as she knelt on the floor by the window.

As Sentelle set her palm on Letalus' chest she closed her eyes and found that his soul had not departed. He was not dead, at least not in the terms which she understood death. She was truly at a loss.

Perhaps Letalus would provide some sort of answer. Sentelle opened her eyes only to find Letalus staring back. Sentelle searched Letalus' eyes for guidance in her response, guidance she feared she would not find there. "Waking you," she said calmer, thankfully, than she felt. She removed her hand from Letalus' chest. "I think it best that any further comment on my part be delayed."

She turned her gaze to Merro. Unsure, herself, of what had happened she had no words for Merro. She offered what she hoped was a reassuring smile and turned to leave.

Korix noticed Leana moving herself between him and the ferret on the table. That was when he realized that Kaydee up on his shoulder. "On no!" Korix said, as he hurried and snatched his familiar up and put her in the carrying bag at his side then fastened it tightly. Kaydee squirmed around inside annoyed.

"Sorry about that." Korix laughed as he began to look around for whoever it was trying to get his attention. He was actually glad when he saw Tomlin heading over. Kaydee had twice now humiliated Korix in front of Leana by trying to eat her animals. Tomlin's approach was a perfect escape from this emberassing situation.

"Maybe another time," Korix said casually. He really didn't plan on anything, though. Leana seemed kind of jittery and that set him on edge a bit. Korix headed on over to meet Tomlin.

Leana watched Korix leave. She was a bit thankful, since she really didn't feel like chatting with a guy whom she had suspicions about. Suspicions at least to the fact that he thought she was cute or something. It made her feel strange.

She looked back at Nova, hoping that she'd be calm again instead of ready to attack.

Letalus only grunted in response, watching Sentelle leave with a feeling of cold dread. What did she do while he was out? Where was whatever the hell that elf was that he fought? How much did she tell Merro?

Merro. She had gasped his name and was presently clutching his hand. He sat up slightly, stiffly, and stared at their entwined hands as if they had turned green and sprouted eyes. He glanced back up at her face, noting with even more confusion the soft worry in her expression, the tears threatening to fall. He was unable to think of any words to say and so, quietly desperate to rid her of the uncharacteristic look on her face, reached out to rest his hand gently on the top of her head and ruffled her wild hair as if she were a stable boy.

There was one aspect of this man that she could always rely upon, and it was that he had the uncanny ability to take her completely by surprise. Even when he did something utterly commonplace or even proper, it was when she least expected it.

She had been both literally and figuratively floored by Letalus' sudden resurrection, but when Sentelle spoke and then retreated, Merro's wide eyes were dragged momentarily back to the paladin. The smile did nothing to ease her stunned bewilderment, as she now stood in awe and not a little fear of the woman who could work such a terrible miracle with ease. It was unreal, and Merro's mind shied away from pondering it overlong.

The reality of Letalus' return was comparatively easier to grasp, and as they were left alone, Merro brought her gaze back to him wonderingly. She had no idea what to do or say, although continuing to sit paralyzed and just stare at him seemed increasingly to be a bad idea. Lady ZhaDurn's simple words and casual manner, and moreover the lack of any unusual reaction in Letalus himself, made Merro think that he likely had no idea that his life had been suspended for a time. Perhaps he simply thought he'd been woken from a sound sleep. Saints save her; she had to say something but what was she to say?

With a startled little "oh!" she scrunched closed her eyes and hunched up her shoulders as her hair was mussed. One tear made its escape and boldly set forth down her cheek, but she was jolted quite out of her stupor and fast falling into warm relief. A smile overspread her features as she shook her head away from his fingers and finger-combed her hair back into place somewhat, surreptitiously scrubbing away the errant teardrop with one knuckle as she did so.

"Stop that," she said lightly with a shaky laugh. "You spend the night in the same room with me and now you tousle me like a puppy. If we're traveling in disguise as brother and sister or man and wife you'd have done better to inform me first." She sat back, her legs folded under her, looking up searchingly at him once more despite herself as if needing to reassure herself that he was indeed living once again. She was no longer quite so tearful looking and her lips were still curved in a smile, however, so perhaps the hair-ruffling could be counted a success.
