"Hah!" Liam shouted triumphantly and grabbed Jeddeth by the wrists, pulling him into a hug, "Yenno, it'd be easier if you took the blindfold off." He buried his face in the naked boy's shoulder, trying to hide the fact that he was crying.

Body racked with sobs, Jeddeth clung to Liam like his life depended on it, though one hand pressed firmly against his hidden eyes.

"No!" he said vehemently. "It's too much. It hurts."

Pulling the rags of his cloak around him, suddenly body-shy, Jeddeth brushed his filthy hair from his face. It hung lank in muddy strands, though if it were clean it would have curled.

"I woke up with a sword between my ribs," he said, voice holding an echo of its old croak. "And I saw them. I saw the dead! And they...all the shades were all leaving, all leaving me alone and I got scared, I don't know what's wrong with me! I'm supposed to be dead! Liam, Liam what's wrong with me?"

"I don't know," Liam said, pulling away a bit and tilting Jeddeth's head with his fingers, "but, hey, if you're undead, welcome to the family. Crow n' Julian lost their Marques. Maybe that has something to do with it." He plucked at the blindfold then out of sheer curiosity, not intending to take it off.

"If it physically hurts, that's just the light. That can be fixed. If you just mean it's too much to handle, I'm sure that can be fixed too. Slowly."

Jeddeth flinched involuntarily, pressing the blindfold to his eyes.

"I wasn't blind," he said, confusion leaching into his voice. "But...but I was. And now I'm just...not."

Reacting belatedly, his head swiveled around, trying to scent Crow out.

"Mistress," he said, voice cracking again. "Mistress, I didn't mean to push you. I'm sorry."

Crow couldn't suppress a small noise, wiping her hand across her eyes hurriedly to get rid of tears as she knelt beside the boy.

"I know," she said, patting his filthy hair. "I'm not mad."

Jeddeth drew a shuddering breath, fresh tears streaking his face.

"I can't sense you anymore," he said, voice suffused with loss. "I thought you and Master were dead, and I just..."

With a sob, the boy clung to Crow, shivering.

Liam felt a big dejected, but said nothing.

"You know," he said after a moment or two, "I don't think you're...what you were. Whatever you were. I mean, Hell, you have working eyes. And you look...pretty human." He let his legs unfold beneath him and he fell to his rump.

"If you take the blindfold off, you can see her~" Part of him just wanted the poor thing to see. The rest of him was just really curious as to what kind of eyes it had.

Crow, nearly tipping over under Jeddeth's weight - goddammit, why did everyone insist on being so much bigger than her - managed to get a good look at him for the first time. He skin was a brown richer than Julian's, when it wasn't encrusted with reptilian scales the hue of old blood. Ridges of bone protruded from his spine and two odd hooks protruded from his elbows, vestigial growths of bone. She could smell blood on his breath and up close his teeth were rather terrifying to look at, and the long claws of bone that graced his too-long fingers added to the effect. He was built to be a carnivore.

"So this is what my family's suppose to look like, huh?" she asked him, voice quiet. Jeddeth shrugged uncertainly.

"I guess. At least it was eight hundred years ago," he replied, ignorant to Crow's curse of surprise. The temptation of sight was starting to gnaw at him, and he touched the blindfold tentatively.

"I'd'a loved you anyway~" Liam cooed, and then placed a hand on Jeddeth's shoulder.

"I was blind too. For a year or so. Really blind. And then I could see again and it was a...massive overload. If you're thinking about takin' it off, c'mere. I think I know how to make it a little...easier. On the eyes." He paused.

"Sorry. Had to."

Crow couldn't help but snort at the pun. Jeddeth smiled uncertainly, creeping back towards Liam and tugging at his blindfold.

"Were your eyes struck out of your head?" he asked curiously. "I did that to a man once. He yelled at me and stumbled into a wall. And then I ate him."

He paused.

"I guess I shouldn't do things like that anymore," he said. Crow patted his shoulder.

"No. Please, please don't."

"No, you really shouldn't. I'm sure I could find you some raw meat if you need," Liam said, taking Jeddeth to him and sitting the creature before him, "And, no, my nerves had dissolved." He pressed Jeddeth's head down then and shaded it with his arms.

"First thing you're gonna see is the grass. Green. Dimly."
PostPosted: Sun Jul 01, 2007 3:31 pm

"Green?"

As the tight knots of the blindfold gave way and it slipped off, Jeddeth opened his eyes cautiously. Immediately the onrush of the new sense was almost too much to bear. He rocked against Liam, caging his fingers around his eyes but forcing them to stay open.

"Too much," he said, voice suddenly stricken. "Hnn!"

"Shhhhh," Liam cooed, petting the back of Jeddeth's head, "Trust me, it'll be worth it in the end." And he waited.

Murmuring to himself in a mash of English and Azuhmnian, Jeddeth raised his head bit by bit. His eyes watered and he squinted, but he slowly lowered his hands. It took a very long time as he focused on Liam's face. The irises were mercury-bright against the utter black of the scleras, shifting and pupilless. He made a small sound and turned to look at Crow, though he slumped against Liam in sudden dizziness.

"You're very small," he said to her. Crow blushed and bit back an indignant remark.

"Hey, I'm small too," Liam said, waggling a finger, "Don't you diss my girl. You wanna see not-small, we got just what you need. Your eyes are ******** awesome, by the way." He continued petting the poor thing.

"See? Innit worth it?"

Jeddeth just nodded, blinking slowly.

"I'm tired," he said eventually, voice weighed down by exhaustion. "Can I come with you? I don't want to live in the woods anymore."

"'S not like Crow n' I live together, Jed, but sure," Liam nodded, "Now c'mon." He stood, trying to bring Jeddeth up with him.

"So. Safer with razor children, undead dragons, and talking skulls or giants, small children, and loud music?"
