Actually that was just the side effect of their solution to the original problem.

The synthetically spun-coiled tibanna gas broke down too quickly, greatly reducing the firing range, and leaving the fighter underpowerd
To compensate, techs made the blasters accept three imes the standard power feed, but this could cause an overload.
So, until they found a more suitable blaster gas, the E-wing had weapon difficulties.

Mostly everything else is right.
And for anyoen willing for another challenge:
There are many worlds in the SW universe. Most of these are single climate planets, a geological impossibility, but possible in a fantasy as this. Name at least: 3 Ice planets, 10 City/industrial planets, 4 Ocean planets, and 3 gas giants.
