"your people" felt like a nail struck in his shoulder. Tsurai never asked to be with the Duploys, he was born into it. And as far as he could remember, he was the only one who actually didn't like drugs. A visible shiver went up his spine about the other Denzien working for the family. Maybe that was what the feeling was from. But it didn't make any sense, because he didn't remember seeing a Denzien anywhere, or even hear about Denziens.

But then again, Brian never talked business politics to his son.

"You never told me what Kappa was. Is it a number?" He was growing agitated, and he didn't know why.
Tsurai took the handle in hand and pushed it down toward himself with all his weight, rather than just his arm strength. He got stuck halfway through, but after a grunt, managed to get the shovel all the way down. Now there was a problem of picking up the thing and tossing the dirt somewhere.
He furrowed his brow and did pick up the shovel, albeit with lots of effort, and managed to shakily toss the dirt to the side. He was only going to hinder Isiah.

He plopped to the ground, crosslegged. "... This sucks," he grumbled, mostly to himself.

Well. He could try and do something, couldn't he?
He pulled the shovel toward him, as it was now parallel to the ground, but tried to life it by the very tip of the handle. He could hardly get the head off the ground, and not more ofr a millisecond. Grumbling a curse under his breath, he kept moving in toward the head of the shovel. When his hand reached about the two-thirds mark, he was able to pick up the tool and hold it in front of him well enough.

It still wavered, and Tsurai's arm shook from the effort, but, if he really did only have one arm left, he should make it a damned strong arm.

Not that starving himself aided him in that, but this would good enough.
Tsurai had always had a problem with stamina, though. He was never good at it. One from his lineage, most likely, the other from his history in drugs, which was more probable. Regardless, Tsurai kept trying to keep the Shovel up, and started counting in his head to a minute. 60 seconds would be a lot longer than needed, he just wanted to see if he could get there without giving up.

He closed his green eyes pictures white numbers on a black background.
1... 3..
The numbers would fade in and out of focus wvwery now and then, when his mind wavered to how much his muscles hurt, and other thoughts, like what Isiah was thinking of this, if anything.

10... 13...
And very slowly they started tinting redder with every few seconds that passed.

19.. 20...

Isiah watched him momentarily, shaking his head back and forth. He yanked the shovel out of his hand, groaning. "What the hell are you doing?! Save your strength, okay?" He tossed it out of arms reach before continuing his labors, relishing as the hard, dry dirt gave way to soft fresh soil, hinting perhaps at fresh water in it's depths.

"Denziens, kid, are arranged in rank by letters of the greek alphabet. Kaegan was my Alpha, I was Ceta, and that b*****d-" He said 'that b*****d' very quietly in case Braeden was still hovering nearby. "Upstairs is Kappa, which is in the damn middle. Guessing by his tatts.. I'd say he joined up maybe in his twenties, and if he's still K by now.. he's either ******** up or just has no talent."

He tossed more dirt aside before digging in the blade again, resting his foot atop it, lifting his shirt to wipe sweat off of his forehead. His skin was strangely luminescent in the dim light- the tattoos were a stark contrast. "Bet his parents didn't name him Braeden, either. Named him.. Chris or. Something retarded like that. Other Denzien clans- not mine, but others- dealt with drugs because they were quick and profitable, so they could use the extra money for recruiting and temples. My Alpha didn't do it because he felt..."

He paused before yanking his shirt back down, continuing his work.

"That drugs weren't the kind of thing you should be introducing young people to. And they don't particularly help anyone be strong or healthy." He tossed more dirt aside, a good two feet of earth piled up next to him. "I thought it was a good call, anyway. But Kaegan woulda kicked my a** if he knew I smoked."

He grunted, digging the shovel in deep before letting go of it entirely, yanking his shirt off over his head. He tucked it into his back pocket before continuing. "I thought for sure all of his kind would have died in the crash.. Wishful thinking, I guess."

When the shovel was torn from Tsurai's hands, he opened up his eyes and yelled out a "Hey!"

But let his hand fall into his lap and grumbled while Isiah explained everything.
When the other man was done, he ignored everything about the drugs and said, "Jesus Isiah, save my strength for what? Standing on my head? If I can't dig I might as well train until I can."

Tsurai let out a growl and got up, going for the shovel again, despite what the older man had said.

"So Kappa is what? Four?"
PostPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2005 3:26 pm

He grunted. "Eleven. And straining your arm isn't training it. If you want to train it, do some one handed push ups." He was joking, of course, but he half expected Tsurai to jump up and do it anyway. Tsurai was either all or nothing with orders. "And I was Ceta before I had to quit. That's third."

Tsurai glared at Isiah for a brief moment before picking up the shovel again and sitting down with it.
"I really don't think that would help. It takes more effort to do push-ups rather than... This. I think so, anyway."
Tsurai was never good with push-ups. He couldn't remember a specific time doing them... He wondered if he even had done them at all. Maybe he hadn't.

Better reason to avoid them, then.

After a second's worth of thought, he left the shovel and stood up, walking to the opening. He didn't start going up the rope ladder, but he did look up. Seeing nothing, he then started up, slowly, trying to watch to see if anyone was on the surface, waiting for them to hit something.

Braeden had wanted to sit about five feet off and keep a good watch, but in about two minutes he got too bored to do so, so he had Rob keep watch instead. Seniority is a powerful thing.

Isiah turned and groaned, shaking his head back and forth. He wasn't going to ask Tsurai to stay if he wouldn't be of any help. "Stay out of trouble, okay?"

Tsurai frowned when he saw Rob.

Then he looked down at Isiah. "Out of..? What made you think I was going.." He narrowed his eyes and his owns tupid questions.

"Nobody ever said you had to dig."

Looking back to Rob, Tsurai told Isiah, "Just.. Drink a lot of water.. And I'll be back.. Soon. I hope."

He hmphed and pulled himself the rest of the way out of the hole, lying on his back.

"Where's the other Denzien? And what's his name anyway? Brandon or something?"

Rob pointed over to a sea of tents. "Braeden."

"Uch. What a weird name." Like Tsurai was any better. Whatever. The eighteen year old got up and stood for a second, then eyes Rob again.
"Why are you keeping watch? What happens if I go?"

Rob's voice lowered. "He didn't tell me yet. He just feeds me so I do this."
A visible shiver went down Tsurai's back. "So over there, then? Just walking around?"

Rob nodded.

Tsurai, after hesitating for a few seconds, jogged over to where Rob had pointed, his curiosity grown to deadly porportions.

Braeden was talking to some other people, laughing and yanking a cigarette out of a box that was being passed around- it seemed that in the few seconds that the duffle had been left unattended, someone had gotten lucky and nabbed but one box of the cancer sticks Isiah had ganked from Cyrus. He turned his head as someone held a lighter up for him, nodding in thanks before taking a puff, finally turning to see Tsurai's approach. "Speak of the devil.."

The people around him shrugged and went back to what they were doing- whatever.. that was in the first place, leaving Braden alone on his haunches. "Can I help you?"

Tsurai froze about five feet from Braeden, looking down on the man.
"Uh..." He shook his head, trying to clear all the instincts in it that were making him unable to speak coherently.

"Do I.. Do you.." His eyes narrowed. "Have we.. Met.. Before?"
Tsurai was trying to look intimidating, but how he was failing so miserable was almost laughable.

He laughed a little. "You dragged yourself out of the ground to ask me that, kid? Yeah, we've met. But you were too little. I didn't think you'd remember. Hell," He took another long drag on the cigarette, exhaling quickly through his nostrils. "I wouldn't have recognized ya if I hadn't been told who you were." He didn't even bother to stand up. Kid has a lot of guts, he mused, doing whatever the hell he feels like in a new, strange, and obviously hostile environment.

He scowled. Moreso at the ground comment than anything else.

"Then who am I, to you?"
PostPosted: Sun Jul 03, 2005 4:03 pm

"Brian's kid." He took another drag on the cigarette. He smoked faster than Isiah did- it'd probably been years since he'd even seen a cigarette.. At least, it felt like years. "But that was a long time ago."

That visible shiver went up Tsurai's back again.

"Okay, well..." He paused, thinking on what to say. "What does this have to do with Isiah? I mean. It was obvious I couldn't shovel anything. Is this really about him or are you all too lazy to do your own labor?" He frowned, muscles tensing up, preparing for a blow to come.

"Cocky b*****d deserves to do a little work. Kid, I know his clan. He was Ceta because there were only fifteen people to speak of, huh? Worthless ********, won't make any money. If I can make the guy suffer, why not? Kick him down where he should be. Besides," He smiled. "I know a sucker when I see one. You've got one hell of a mama."

Tsurai clenched his fist. "That may be so, but I'd rather have a mom than a b*****d who thinks his more than he really is."
Tsurai was torn between two things. Running, and fighting. So his fist just ended up shaking by his side while he stood stark still.
