Major Tom Seraphine, You're right when it comes to Kauyon: anybody worth his salt will see what you're trying to do and won't bite. But Mont'ka relies on your own initiative, not his incompetance. Role up to his flank with two devilfish, unload firewarriors behind them, and open fire. The enemy will be to far away to run around your fish an assult, and assulting skimmers just isn't a good idea. For extra fun, bring along a drone squadron or battlesuit team to jump over the fish and back again, or provide long range support with railgun submunitions. If there isn't a weak spot on the enemy line, you can use devilfish for drivebys and as mobile sheilds for your suits and drones. That being said, there are more efficient ways to fight out there. It's just more fun to get into the army's mindset and fight in character. Mont'ka allows you to do that and still put up a respectable fight. So, Seraphine, if you don't like the traditional methods, what kind of tactic do you usualy use? first response to mont'ka: you run around your enemy, unload 2 units of warriors, shoot up two of his units, get charged by ravaners/assault squad/raptors/solitaire and die... even if it all works perfectly, its a straight forward strategy, and most players rely solely on destroying those (somehow everyone always thinks everyone is a n00b stare ) anyway, what i do differs per situation, normally do the "water" way, i stay and shoot, when my opponent gets close i use all my mecha's to swarm around and shoot em up while i sacrifice my ground troops for the greater good. but that is just annihilation games, seeing as it doesnt win table quarters. other then that i device strategies while we are setting up, and re-device it every fase of the turn.

You have to remember, while a lot of people aren't newbies, and play against people they know aren't newbies, they expect some elaborate strats that require perfect timing and damn good rolls... Sometimes the KISS (Keep Is Simple, Stupid) Rule can really throw someone off when they are expecting something complex to unravel.

Are there special rules for all-Kroot armies? If you just use the Tau army list, the army will probably get beaten by everything. Besides, you need HQ and one unit of Fire warriors.

kroot mercenaries are their own army and have a "shaper council" as HQ, and do NOT require fire warriors.
they cant even be taken with ANY Tau in the army. but they can join chaos, ig, and i think orks..but that dont sound right.

They are not their own army, they dont even have a codex. Not even a sub-codex of another army.
