Well if you think about it, the models don't look as nasty as, for example, a Space Marine Captain, with massive thunder hammer or powerfist, and in a raider, which you should have plenty of, they won't be a very appealing choice. If your opponent is faced with other nasty choices, like Scourges for example.

clone field is apparently mutually exclusive with shadow field... still, shadow field, combat drugs and huskblade make helluva duellist... yep, if bringing fear to their enemies is measure of success, it is a huge victory for DE already... just completed an anti-tank-and-marine monster list (point values may vary slightly from real, though I'm pretty sure they are correct) Asdrubael Vect - 240 5 trueborn, 4 blasters, raider - 180 5 trueborn, 4 blasters, raider - 180 5 trueborn, 4 blasters, raider - 180 5 warriors, 1 blaster, raider - 120 5 warriors, 1 blaster, raider - 120 5 warriors, 1 blaster, raider - 120 5 warriors, 1 blaster, raider - 120 5 warriors, 1 blaster, raider - 120 5 warriors, 1 blaster, raider - 120 ravager - 105 ravager - 105 ravager - 105 7 scourges - 2 blasters - 184 total - 1999 20 blasters, 18 dark lances, all lance move 12 inches and fire, steals initiative on 4+ it's like Han Solo vs Greedo, smugglers always shoot first razz if you want to maximise enemy tactical suffering, swap the scourges for Lady Malys... tested it on my old 3 land raider, 3 x thundershield termies list... Malys sent the termies to reseres, first salvo by DE destroyed all the LRs, leaving 3 tac squads and a captain to deal with the incoming DE armada... marine armies have already trouble with IG firepower, DE bring even more firepower to the tabletop

This list above scares me.
Thank GOD for the fact Eldar Wave serpents have those special fields on their transports.
I'm sooo tempted to leap unto DE, but I think I still need to focus on my Eldar Army first, which is still having issues pushing to 2500pts.
What I find funny though is that DE instantly became less cool to me when this freakn "p***y Grey Knights" player said "Im going to start a DE army too!" I just went "...Ok, now I dont want in on this..." Seriously, who plays Grey knights hiding them all the time, lying about his equipment, and doing w/e he can to cheat and brag about his winnings, and then whinning and pouting about losing. Course then its not his fault, its something YOU did that wasnt fair. Like having a Squad of banshees is cheese.
But still, more then likely what I WILL do is buy a few models I REALLY like the looks of. Like the Archon I know for a fact I am buying one of THOSE bad boys!

Give it a few months and all the myths will be debunked, GW will move on to the next army of the month and most players will return to their regular armies.

I expect strong backlash of "meh" as people learn to deal with new DE... @ Nekage, next codex on the block seems to be GK, so you can tell your friend to stick to them since they are getting new toys soon.

so, after first wave of hype, first tactics on how to deal with those deviant eldar are emerging in my gaming circle: 1. drop the av 14 - it is overpriced usually anyway, and now there will be lot of lances coming your way to add to usual melta threat of conventional armies 2. mount up - from marine rhinos and razorbacks, thru IG chimeras, to the eldar Wave serpents and tau devilfish, boxes of armor give protection from dark eldars most dreaded ability, namely melee, are completely immune to poison shooting weapons, and are plentiful enough to withstand lances well. Marine and IG transports are especially dirt cheap for the protection -and firepower - they do offer 3. invest in s6 (or more) multiple shots/blast/template weapons multilasers, scatter lasers, flamestorm canons, submunition railguns, autocanons, missile pods, plasma weapons , railrifles -you name it... all they deny DE fnp. And all the weapons are quite capable of destroying DE transports too. The few GK players that are out there are salivating at the prospect of insta-killing archons with psycanons ignoring shadowfield. 4.orks and tyranids are somewhat screwed, as their about only viable builds - battlewagons with bikernobz and Trygonzilla are particularly vulnerable to new dark eldar wave of poison and lances. 5.if all else fails, save last bolt for yourself, dont let them take you alive... razz

Well I just brought my first unit for my Dark Eldar army: Harlequins. Acrobatic and nasty killers who have some really cool tricks and moves. Add a Death Jeaster and Shadowseer and I have the first unit of my army.

*Ring ring ring!* "Oh hi, this is the Eldar calling. Yeah, we'd like our Harlequins back >:C K, thanks, bye!"
I've just never enjoyed my favorite unit being in ANOTHER army as well, haha. Although I suppose if I get DE at some point as my 3rd army, I could just move my Harlequins over to there as well.

I have to say Harlequins feel out of place... Wyches are enough of light acrobatic melee specialists, ne? Still the idea of 2 armies sharing one unit isnt new, I've seen DH/WH player who used his inquisitorial stormtroopers as a base on which the rest of both armies was built. It worked quite well.

You cant really go on a rant about Harlequins. The back story is that they are indifferent towards the idea of good and evil per se. I think it works out well seeing as they are nomadic in a point and play out the events of The Fall. They'll show it to Imperials, Eldar, Dark Eldar and Exodites.

Imperials? I guess it takes brave Imperial lord to invite (a) treacherous Eldar for a play (b) that will have Inquisition have him hunted for Xeno contacts. I guess Czevak, himself an Inquisitor and one of few men ever to tread a Craftworld's surface was able to watch Harlequin's play, but that's about single example.
