:::Cora feels embarassed for a moment, but tries not to dwell:::
Times change the world, it seems. I am from thousands of years ahead of your time...and we don't have magic.

No magic? What a dreadful thought. *she contemplates that for a moment* Though there's always the hope that you're simply ignorant of its existence. Even in my time, people do not believe that it is real as readily as they once did.

...well, it is possible. But I have not even heard of it... perhaps in old literature. What is it exactly? Perhaps it has a different title now?

Enchantment, sorcery, witchcraft . . . there are many names, many different sorts. *she sips her wine, drums her fingernails on the tabletop, talking as much to herself as to Cora now* This place is full of it. Likely made of it, as well. I'm not entirely certain what type yet . . .
Though, considering it can supress mine . . . *she trails off thoughtfully*

:::Cora squints thoughtfully... magic... the brink is made of it?? but it surpresses her's. Cora knew that the brink surpresses extra-human abilities...but why would the brink have those? It's not human. She'd ask anyway.:::
Magic...is that considered extra-human abilities...?

That would be one way to describe it. Or, better, one way to describe how it sometimes manifests itself.

oh... that would make sense. :::She thinks...Naturally if it magic can manifest in ways other than through human, the brink could have magic as well:::
I have some magic...but the brink does not alway surpress mine. In fact, it usually doesn't.

*Melliandra narrows her eyes in interest* Then by all means, feel free to demonstrate.

:::Cora thinks up the easiest to demonstrate extra-human ability she has...:::
Alright...
:::Still seated, Cora puts one hand under the table they're sitting at, finding the center of its gravity, or the closest point to it that she can reach from where she is. Finding it, she judges how much strength to apply on what fingers in order to keep it level when she lifts it:::
:::She heaves a little bit of breath...::::
Hup...rrrn... :::And the table was hovering on top of her one hand...the wine standing very still:::

*Mel's eyebrows go up in surprise* Well now, that is something . . . *she rises from her seat and moves closer to inspect Cora, paying little heed to her right to personal space. She traces her fingers along Cora's arm from wrist to shoulder* So you are actually lifting it . . . . interesting . . .

:::Cora hardly finds it intrusive...especially since she was using her left hand and not her right:::
I am. I can also hear your heart beating from 10 feet away, and I can react just slightly faster than the general public, mostly through practice though. Also through practice are my hightened levels of chemical resistance. The strength on the other hand is chemically induced.
:::it didn't seem to bother Cora to be holding the table there for a while:::

Chemically . . ? *Mel continues moves from inspecting Cora's arm to study her face, nearly nose to nose with her, her pale eyes probing* Hmmm . . . *she sits back and rubs her chin thoughtfully* It must not be a spell you're actively maintaining then . . . rather one with permanent effects, cast outside this place . . . . that would follow . . . . in fact . . .
*But her ponderings are cut short by her own disappearance*
**Exit Melliandra**

:::Cora watches Melliandra ponder...right in her face, wondering what the woman is going to come up with....but she's disappointed when she fades away:::
Oooh... :::she pouts just a little, and slowly lowers the table back down to the floor. After sitting a moment, and picking back up her wine, she stands up and goes to look at the book Melliandra was reading. Cora couldn't exactly tell if that was english or not, so she continues searching...:::

:::Cora finds books upon books which she's certain are the ancient english text that a bunch of the others in the brink read and write. She's compaired them to her locket and even found matching words. From there it was a matter of figuring out what the letters sounded like compaired to the words. some didn't make sense, and she'd need to ask when next she saw someone who could understand better.
When she'd had her fill, which was hours upon hours of study, she closed the books, put them back where she found them, and headed to the main room for another glass of wine. SHe'd finished her first one hours ago, but didn't want to break her flow of study:::
*Exit Cora to Main Room 620*

**Enter Maggie from Main, 649**
*Maggie walks in from the hallway, humming quietly to herself. Once she's in the library, she heads over to the shelves to see if she can't find a simple sort of book to try reading for practice*
