Hewwo! Hehe. Mine starts on June 13th.. Just a week away! crying I guess it is fun but we work so hard in the blazing sun with few, short water breaks! Fortunately, it hasnt been too hot this summer so far. I mean, its only 60 degrees right now. I guess that could be because it just rained, but that is beside the point. Well, thank you for reading my rant. Hope you all have a great summer (band)!

I couldn't find the oboe/bassoon thread and my band director said clarinets are similar to bassoons.
Question.
I might be taking up the bassoon next year(I'm a trumpet player and I sit first chair in my high school ensemble) and I would like to know from some other basoonists..
How difficult was it to start learning the bassoon?
Is the transition from brass to woodwind really that hard?
Would you recommend a trumpet player to play the bassoon?
I already started learning bass clef so that's kinda taken care of.
Any comments/suggestions/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Understandable that you couldn't find it--it was wayyy back on page 5. Sorry I can't help you out more than that... I've never tried bassoon before, though I'd like to.

I think the only similarity between the two instrumens is the fingering. I know the mouth position is somehwat different, because they have their mouth only on their reed, while clarinets have their mouth on a mouthpiece. It might be a much larger transition for a brass person. However, it shouldn't be that hard if you just work at it ^^

I'm a clarinetist going to James Logan HS next year. There was no room in the Wind Symphony (the highest band, for those who don't know), so I made it into the second highest--Symphonic. I nearly didn't, though. Right now, I'm second chair. Not really, since we're not playing in band anymore. Just practicing for promotion.
