I loved S4's ending... I thought it was very touching and serene. They couldv'e have done so differently, with a lot of commotion and celebration or something... but they didn't. Instead, Lazlo getting up and waving towards his ship, as the camera pans out on the expanse of the sea... It was beautiful, and I think it really captured the essence of the game.
But that's just me, because I'm one of those rare people who loved S4 and hated S5.

No, I agree, too. S4 was all about subtletly, so getting a dramatic wake-up scene wouldn't fit. I think it would have been fantastic if they had the "The End" screen showing The Razril Knights helping him onto the ship instead of a "The End" screen with a little boat, but that's the only "dramatic" part I would have inserted.
S5, as I posted in the Official Thread, was too Suikoden II-ish. I think it was an improvement over S2 in many ways, such as giving the villains a clearly defined motive, giving Sialeeds more time with the party so she could be fleshed out, better music, a much more fun war system, and more fun with Runes. But it fell flat in almost every other way. The plot was nearly identical, Prince was rather generic, Childerich was nothing more than a Luca Blight rehash except this time they took out everything that made Luca interesting, the normal battle system annoyed me, I hate finding my way around the huge places like Sol Falena and Ashtwol Mountains, Lyon literally WAS a female Gremio (I know it's easy to say that Nanami is basically Gremio, but Lyon went above and beyond Nanami), and there was a distinct lack of really, really fun minigames. Hell, Lymsleia was the one with the most character development in the game, and she had about half an hour of total screen time in the entire 60+ hour game.
The endings were the biggest disappointment. In Good Ending A, Prince hangs around and marries Lyon. Okay, but I felt no sense of accomplishment when I saw it. In GEB, he, Georg, and Lyon set sail and say goodbye. That was better, but it makes no sense. As little characterization as Prince has, he most certainly wouldn't leave his little sister behind to run a country that needs serious reform.
Personally, I found S4 to not only be much better than S5, but much more fun to play and experience. And in the end, isn't that what games are all about?

I think that if the prince were simply in a coma they'd be able to tell and never have sent him off in a raft. And I still feel as though the added scene was a cheap way to show he lived. If he were waking up from a coma he wouldn't have instantly known to turn to his ship and wave. He'd be confused and not know where he was, like the beginning of 28 days later. I did like the game and that he lived, it's just the way they handled it that I have a problem with.
Anyway, I didn't like childerich either, but I also thought he was a very minor part of the game. The main appeal of the enemy forces was Gazelle who I thought they handled very well. The prince was also supposed to be generic. He's supposed to be almost non-existant, because he IS the player. You make the prince who he is which is why they make you name him and give you the tons of multiple choice things to choose. It's also why even though they could just as easily voice them the main characters don't really talk. I haven't really expected much from Suikoden gameplay since 3, (especially minigames) so I just play for the story at this point, and I thought the bulk of 5's was pretty good. There was plenty of developement to go around imo, and to be fair the BULK of that 60+ hour gametime was load times and pointless battles (like most RPGs) so 30 minutes or so of screen time isn't that bad domokun Besides, Troy in Suikoden 4 was the biggest crime of under-developement since... I don't remember when.
I never got the good endings so I can't comment on them, but the only game that really had an accomplishment feeling for me after getting all 108 stars was 2 and 3. I liked Georg, Zeresa, and and Lorelai, so their big roles in the game helped alot for me. I was never able to really bond with many of the Suikoden 4 characters, so I ended up enjoying 5 more sweatdrop
Lyon sucked not just because of her bootleg gremio status, but also their poor choice in a voice actress. 3nodding

Lyon ended up annoying me half way through the game, which is odd because I loves me some Tenei stars. Gizelle was probalby one of my favorite characters. He was so... well thought out... He had actualy goals and stuff, and he was like, really smart too. Can't forget about his Sexy Looks either... I thought most of the cast in S5 was pretty decent.
The plot though... that's another story.

It did get pretty stale at points (I hated Mr. Blimp and his son. The whole part living in their mansion sucked too!), although I think it had it's good points too. When you see the cutscene that shows what happened between Georg, Ferid, and Arshtat at the catle I was thinking "that is delicious..."

Shi_Yatsu I think that if the prince were simply in a coma they'd be able to tell and never have sent him off in a raft. I remember so little of 28 Days Later that I'm not going to argue that point much, but I do think that waking up naked in a completely empty, creepily quiet hospital of DEATH is very different than waking up in a little raft to the sound of seagulls and waves. One is calm and serene, the other is nightmare inducing. RE Development: I consider development how much a character changes from when they are introduced to the end of the game. In almost every other Suikoden game, each of the main characters changed somewhat. In S1, Gremio realized the empire was evil, Flik accepted Tir as his leader, and Pahn decided to follow his heart. In S3, Geddoe realized life was ment to be lived, and Hugo and Chris learned to accept and even embrace each other's cultures. In S4, Snowe came to accept himself for him, Elenor went from crazy drunk lady with nanomachines and bishounen slave trades to a somewhat sober, capable tactictian. In S5, Lym became a young woman. Georg, Lyon, and/or Sialeeds? I got nothin'. They were exactly the same as they were in the beginning. RE Gizel: Gizel was a toned-down, vastly improved version of Luca, IMO. He still wants to rule Falena because something bad happened to Mommy, but he wasn't batshit or going on about pigs, and (thankfully) his Oedipus complex was much, much less raging. Plus, he was smart and thought out his plans. That's a winner. RE Sun Palace Seige: I may not have liked S5, but OHMYGODYES. That was a very sad scene indeed. I did cry. D'= Shi_Yatsu I was thinking "that is delicious..." ...Ew.

Lol, I just mean delicious as in that was a wonderful scene. Not the kind of delicious in Maze or something xd
In the bad ending with the Prince he changes from a happy sister suck-up to a sad wanderer travelling with George. Although th prince barely had a presence so... I have to play that game again, I have forgotten a good chunk of it already razz
Anyway, about 28 days, I don't think he quite knew it was abandoned yet, but it is pretty disturbing to wake up naked in a hospital. I do think it would be pretty freaky waking up in a small raft kind of bouncing around in the waves without knowing how you got there too though. And I would have definitely taken a quick survey of the area before realizing that waving to the big boat will help.

Well, hospitals are supposed to be loud, noisy, and full of people. Even if Main Character didn't know the hospital was abandoned yet, waking up to a place that is absolutely silent is still creepy enough to make anyone worry.
I think Lazlo did take a look around first before he saw the ship. I know he didn't start waving right away, though. (I've gone back and beaten the game around three times)

In that case my memory of S4 is shaky at best and I'll STFU about it now xd
The second I leave the guild walls I completely forget about playing Suikoden 5 again for the 108 stars.... I ought to leave a post-it somewhere sweatdrop

I actually really love S5. I think it's one of the best. And I love Miakis better than Lyon. But Lyon is fine for me. She's cute razz But Miakis is cuter and stronger. And I really love Miakis' personality. Especially when I saw her cry. That scene was looooveee. The character designs were one of the best IMO. I also love the gameplay. Especially when we have the option to choose different kinds of formations. It was great. And we are also able to boost the skills of our characters with the epic scrolls, etc. That's one of the thing I also love about S3. And the war battles really make me nervous. There are so many things I really love about this game.
I don't hate S4 and I'm not crazy about it. I played it through the end though. I'm neutral about it. One thing that made me uninterested in S4 is the character design/artwork. Its one factor that affects my interest in a game. And IMO, S4 has the weakest character designs among all. Although I really love the ninjas in this game especially Mizuki. And I so looove their team attack with Kate and Akagi. It was very ninja-ish. Cool! For me its a good game. I love the fact that we can reach level 99 with our characters. That's awesome! It made the final boss so weak. Lol
In the end, its just a matter of preference.^^' razz wink whee

I'm half way through S5 and it's just annoying. It kind of gave me a dissapointment, When it was on the shelfs of Gamestop or EB I was so excited! I ended up hating it....My sister got it because she was in the "mood" to play it so she got it...I played it the first time around and I really didn't like when Lyon just follows you around HELLO! PERSONAL SPACE!?

I liked her following. You could mess with her by changing up your pace, and it's nice you could always ask her what you were in the middle of doing should you forget (ALL long RPG's need one of those... I forgot where I was going in FF7 back in the day, and spent a nice 2 hours running around trying to figure it out... Damn random battles!). Plus it reminded me of Pokemon Yellow, and the little b***h Pikachu that can never stop following (unless you knock it out), so I got a good laugh out of it.
