Lori's smile grew.

"Good! I'm glad. Come on in, we could start a little early. Seamus can come only as long as he won't be a distraction."

Meow!

Lori narrowed his eyes at the sidhe now occupied with getting the feathery bits out of his spiked tongue. "What does that mean? You are going to be a distraction or you aren't?" But there was no response. The cat sidhe pulled the feather away from his mouth, shook his head, stuck his tongue out a few times, and then headed off into the rest of the unit, apparently done with them.

Lori of course knew that the rules were 'no pets for temporary residents' but he didn't feel like being the bad guy. It was rough when you were just here for schooling, something he had learned secondhand from the entities he had assisted since his employment here.

"Come on. We get our own meeting room," the elf said with a smile, offering a hand down to Maia. "Maybe we'll even get out ahead of schedule." It was two hours they had allotted, and there was a great deal of information that could be shared. All in all it would take 4 to 5 classes with Lori or one of his associates to cover all lessons, and then anything extracurricular she wanted could be figured out during that time.

When Seamus left them, Maia's plan to distract herself during lessons had been foiled. The cat probably knew it, too. "Maybe he's gone for a nap," She suggested. "We played a long time. Can I come back and play with him tomorrow?" Maia took Lori's hand. Their own meeting room?

"Do you take care of Seamus?" She asked, curiously. "I didn't get to see the dragon can I come back to see him later?" Ahead of schedule was good. That meant more time for fun! "Let's get started, then."

"Sure! You can come see him any time you want, although once the room's empty for the night you'd have to have someone with clearance, like Dari or Toby. Or me." He accepted Maia's hand a little awkwardly, but hey, that was something they could talk about during classes.

"Yeah, I do a lot of the things nobody else wants to, but Seam's my little cat-buddy. The dragon? The one in the caves or Pix? Pix doesn't spend a lot of time here, he's usually up in the rafters or scavenging for food in the caff. I'm sure you'll see him while you're here. The one in the caves... we really try not to disrupt her, but there's security cameras down there with her."

He led the selkie toward a private room off to the side and closed the door behind them. It was an altered sort of meeting room with one long table with chairs on only one side. Against the far wall was a whiteboard, and there was also a desk and wheeling chair. There were a few plants standing in pots in two corners of the room to give a less clinical air. Lori gestured for Maia to take a seat and plopped down in the wheeling chair and rolled toward the table with a few different papers, but really he preferred to just explain himself.

Seamus jumped up into Maia's lap, having been waiting for them to arrive. Lori gave him a look. If he became a distraction, he'd have to be sent out. This was all important information Maia needed to retain; she couldn't just play with the cat and ignore it.

"Alright, so. First thing. Do you have any questions for me?"

Excellent! She could visit Seamus whenever she liked. "Does he wander out of the office at all?" She asked. Would she see the cat in other places around HQ? "Why would I want to see the one in the caves?" She wrinkled her nose. "While I do hope you've found a place for her, I certainly don't want to meet her!" Dragons were frightening creatures and fairly violent. And roast selkie was probably on their menu. So Pixie wasn't around very often: huh. Shed have to look to the roof.

She sat down, and Seamus hopped up into her lap. She immediately wrapped her arms around him. "I'd thought you left," She told him. "I'm glad you didn't."

She looked up at Lori. Hm. Questions. "You don't look like that elf teenagers were talking about a few years ago. I'm guessing you're from a different area?" She had no idea the elf in question was fictional. "And how do you take care of cats?"

"Well, you'd be safe behind a computer, and dragons are pretty rare," Lori offered with a little shrug. Some people came wanting to know everything about everything. Maia seemed slightly more focused in her interests. "Sometimes Seamus wanders. We don't lock him in at night or anything."

Well then. The questions Maia had for him had nothing at all to do with the situation at-hand. That was alright, though. Whatever she wanted to know he was obliged to offer.

"Well, what kind of elf are we talking? Like Lord of the Rings or Celtic myth or what?" Of course everyone had the idea that all elves were lithe, clean-shaven beings of mystery but every race had its stereotypes.

"And probably eat selkies. And are only rare because humans murdered them." And some of them had died out from natural causes, but she was sure humans had been the deciding factor in their rarity. "I'd like to help them. But... Bleh. I don't want to be made extinct." She petted Seamus. "You could come see me, sometime. I'm staying until schooling's done at least."

"I don't know what kind. Some years ago girls were all talking about Legolas and how he was the "hottest" elf."

"Dari said I won't be able to go home for several months," she said. "I don't really want to go anywhere else but home. And this place isn't for me. The pool's nice. But it--" it wasn't home. "Well. I'm sure you have questions for me, since you're the teacher!"

"Well, they'll eat pretty much anything that's made of meat," Lori agreed. But again, he wasn't offering to show her the beast in its natural habitat, just an image on a camera. Maybe she didn't understand cameras? That was always a possibility.

Seamus simply continued purring and enjoying the attention being given to him.

Lori laughed then and shook his head. ******** Legolas.

"Well, first off, he's a fictional character, and he's a wood elf. My family's from a long line of fae. My great-grandfather was a member of the Court. So not the same kind of elf at all, even if he was real." Then his manner changed slightly and he gave Maia an apologetic look.

"He's probably right. It may never be safe for you to live on your beach again, Maia. We can try. We're keeping an eye on it, but for now it might be best to relocate. Trust me, I got out of the apartments here as fast as I could. I understand. But it's our job to keep you safe, alright?" He smiled again and shook his head.

"Only a few. There are a few forms we need to go through and then we can talk about you getting an official identity and a cell phone and all that good stuff."

"Like sharks." Maia made a face, "But if you have a tablet thing, I'll look at it. Toby showed me another selkie that way." She gave Seamus another pet. "I heard he was trapped," she said, frowning slightly. "But that lady told me the people responsible were dealt with." She ran her hand down Seamus' back, as if she we're apologetic. She didn't want to bring up bad memories for him.

Oh, of course. Fictional. That made sense; why else would parents have been alright with their teenage girls fangirling over some supernatural being? "So woodelves aren't fae?" she asked, curiously.

Her expression darkened. Her grip on Seamus tightened slightly, and the pace at which she'd been stroking him increased. "Never?" she echoed. "Well! Lets get on it then! Yay forms! I love forms."

"Well, there's security cameras that we can view through certain computers, if you'd like," Lori offered. After all, who knew when the next time any of them might be able to see a dragon? It always took a while to find an especially dangerous creature a new place to live and be free, but his people were on it. He decided not to talk about Seamus' previous condition and the entirely unpunished state of his captors, instead moving on to the question on elves.

"Well, it all depends on the type. Fae elves can definitely live in the woods, but not all elves in the wood are fae. In Tokien's universe, I don't think they are."

Then he saw how hard it had struck Maia that she may not be able to go home. He felt guilty for having said so; maybe it was too soon? She had definitely seemed strong in her understanding that she would be relocated, at least for a while. He sighed and pushed his mouth over to one side, then pulled a document from the file under his arm.

"I just need your signature on this one. This one gives our medical staff the permission to give you a physical, just like any human's yearly physical, to be sure you're in good health and states that they are disallowed to perform any sort of testing without your express and detailed permission." He drew an X where she needed to sign. "If you decide not to sign, we cannot ensure your health, but they still can't perform any tests."

Maia still looked hesitant. She didn't associate cameras with good things: they after all, had been the reason she'd been found. "Alright. I'll look. But I still don't like her being in captivity." They were helping, but did the dragon understand that? "What color is she?" she asked.

"Oh. Like some dragons collect gold, and some don't." Maia nodded in understanding.

"I'll sign it." She for looked a pen. "Its like going to the doctor? I've never been."

"She's sort of earthy-color with some red parts. She's a beautiful creature," Lori replied, "and of course we don't like her being locked up either. It'd hard to find a place she won't be in danger and can also survive on what is available. Right. Exactly. Exactly like that."

He offered Maia a pen then and nodded.

"That's all it is. We have doctors on staff here for anyone who can't do to a traditional doctor. You should be able to, but they charge every time. We don't."

Maia signed the form. "Probably could. I'm essentially human in this form. Cold affects me, even." At least, it had seemed to last night. "I'm much slower in this form. Bleh. I lost a swimming race to Dari! I never lose races."

"What are the other forms for?" she asked.

"Oh! Here's one saying you won't damage your living spaces without permission." Lori gestured to a page with a long list of damages including knocking out walls and lighting things on fire. He drew an X where Maia needed to sign. "Just ask if you want to paint the walls or get a new toilet or something, and thennnn..." He looked at the next sheaf of paper.

"Ah. Then we need to start getting you set up with an ID! We get everyone we can listed as a human within their home country. It makes things like buying a car or a house legal."

Seamus began kneading Maia's leg.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 18, 2015 11:57 pm

Maia hadn't considered damaging her room: but it seemed the list entailed "decorating" as well. "I'd like to paint my room. It'd be more inviting than that awful, blinding white. Why don't they just paint all the rooms based on who's going to be staying there? Like. Sea colors for sea based creatures! And greens for those coming directly from Ireland. Oooh, and earthy colors for some and bright colors for others. Of course the decor should match the colors..."

She dropped her train of thought to blink. An id. Huh. She'd never needed one of those before. "I have a house," she pointed out. "Four walls and a roof. Not very interested in driving, really. But it helps with getting a cellphone too?"

She petted Seamus. "Paperwork is awfully boring, isn't it?" she muttered, for the cat sidhe's benefit.

"Well, we don't always know who's coming or how long they're staying, and they decided white is the most inoffensive color." Lori shrugged. He hadn't liked them either. "You could probably get permission to paint yours, though, if you're going to be here a while."

"I heard! That made us think you had an ID already. We found your parents but we didn't find you. Is it safe to assume you'll want to use the same surname? And do you know your birth date?" Most entities did not, he'd have to say.

Seamus gave a little trill, not bothering to open his eyes.
