☆ ☆【True to form, Kraven was quick to toss a comeback to Phoenix’s comment, the redhead laughing a bit louder at her friend’s antics. ”Ah, well… Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I suppose inherent knowledge of some of the best places to eat comes with the territory of being a native,” she suggested with a shrug. Her small smile turned into a bit more of a sly smirk as her dark-haired friend gave an amused laugh at the ‘brochure’ comment and said she’d actually been thinking about it. After all, it wouldn’t be that hard since apparently the redhead knew how to ‘treat a girl’. Phoenix snorted at that, her cheeks flushing a light pink.
”Aha, well you are a friend, after all. It’s only natural that you deserve some of the best, in my opinion at least~” she said, trying to play it off as casually as she could in spite of the gradually deepening pink on her cheeks, ”Of course if I’m going to keep treating you out like this, I might expect the same kind of courtesy in return whenever we find ourselves in Kalos.” She didn’t even flinch or hesitate when she noticed Kraven edging closer, knowing her friend was not in the best condition and might need support just in case. She tilted her head slightly as they continued onwards to the Pokemon Center from there, listening as the other admitted it was a bit odd to get so excited over a seemingly normal meal since she’d never thought of herself as much of a foodie. ”Perhaps… But it’s certainly not strange to just really enjoy food in general, especially if it happens to be really good food,” she offered with a light smile just as they neared the familiar red roofed building.
A quick heal up, grabbing medicine for any wounds, and a walk to the cafeteria area later, and the pair and their Pokemon were a bit more comfortably settled in with their dinner. Phoenix took a deep breath as she let herself relax into the cushions of the small, window-side booth she was sharing with her friend, smiling as they made small talk over their meals while she munched away at her own plate of food. Naturally Gungnir was keener on taking a nice rest on his trainer’s lap as opposed to hanging out with his teammates, though being the lazy lad that he was the redhead couldn’t really blame him. She giggled softly at Kraven’s remark, surely even if he was a Samurott that likely wouldn’t stop him from at least trying. ”I suppose so, just be mindful of the pointy bits,” Phoenix returned, grinning around another bite of fish as the Oshawott rolled over onto his stomach and pressed himself deeper into his spot. The redhead’s face flared up a little at her friend’s teasing about joining him in her lap and that she probably didn’t have enough space for two, puffing out her cheeks a little. ”Tempting, but I’ll pass, thank you very much. I don’t know where you keep getting these kinds of ridiculous ideas from…” she retorted, grabbing a few fries and shoving them in her mouth to keep herself from dignifying any further responses to that statement.
Not that she really had to when Klaus finally came to join their little party, the Zoroark smiling brightly as Kraven waved him over and taking a seat with them when his trainer moved over to make room. Digging into his own food, he listened with rapt attention as the pair caught him up to what all had happened after he had disappeared back into his ball for a nap. Admittedly earning three badges over the course of a day was quite impressive, though Klaus couldn’t help but be a bit more invested in the two’s steadily growing relationship.”It certainly feels good to be out and about again, though I probably could’ve napped for at least a century if I wanted to,”he said with a light laugh, eyes sparkling with barely concealed pride and delight at Kraven’s report,”Oh? Hehe, I’m actually a little disappointed for having missed out on that now that I’m hearing about it~ But that’s definitely good to hear! It’s been so long since Phee’s actually made a new human friend, you don’t know the half of it.”In proud father fashion the Zoroark reached over and playfully ruffled his trainer’s hair, goofy grin plastered across his muzzle all the while.”My dear little Phee, making new friends for yourself already! They do grow up so fast, don’t you think, Kraven?”he commended, playfully winking over towards the dark-haired girl.
”J-Jeez, it’s n-not like it was that big a deal, you know!” Phoenix sputtered, face bright red as she batted Klaus’s hand away and smoothed down her hair. The Zoroark simply laughed as he relented, blue eyes glinting slyly as he gave her a sidelong glance while he turned his attention back to his food.”So you say, though from what Kraven said you certainly seemed to think it actually was quite the big deal at the time. I’m surprised you didn’t spontaneously combust on the spot just from sheer excitement alone~”Huffing and glowering at the cheeky Dark-type, the redhead was more than glad to move the conversation along as Klaus asked what the plans for their next adventures were. She nodded in agreement as Kraven filled him in on their travel discussions, and that they could sort out transportation tomorrow morning after breakfast for going from there.”Mmmm, traveling out of region for a bit does sound like an interesting prospect… Both Kalos and Sinnoh sound like nice places to visit around this time of year,"the Zoroark remarked, tapping a claw on the table in thought,”Still, wherever you ladies want to go is up to you both to decide. Now that we have access to flying transport the sky’s pretty much the limit for us, literally and metaphorically~”Phoenix nodded in agreement with everything, though the way Kraven glanced over towards the Aerodactyl and her Volcarona wasn’t missed. Being able to fly now certainly did come with the benefit that they could very well go wherever they wanted now, though she couldn’t blame her friend for being somewhat hesitant. Falling from the sky tended to do that to a person.
The redhead hummed thoughtfully as Kraven suggested it’d be best for them to just focus on making more progress through Unova for now, though they would have to do more training even just for the next gym. ”I certainly wouldn’t mind staying in Unova for the time being, if we’re going right for the next gym then it sounds like we’re setting our course for Nimbasa next,” she chipped in, licking her lips in thought and taking another bite of crispy fish. She wasn’t entirely sure of what they could do to try and get through all the training they’d need in the meantime, hopefully not involving almost starting a forest fire by flaming through so many Bug-types. But perhaps they could figure something out… ”Elesa’s gym is Electric-type, so for starters I’d suggest focusing on training up any Ground or Rock types you might have,” she offered, quickly tossing in the latter since she knew Elesa had a pair of Emolgas that were immune to the typical Ground-type weakness, ”If we’re looking to do any training outside of the city, we could try stopping at the Desert Resort or Lostlorn Forest since those are on the way. Failing that, though, Nimbasa itself hardly has any shortage of things to do if you wanted to head there right away instead.” She wondered what Kraven might think of all the different facilities the city had to offer, the Musical Theater, Big Stadium and Small Court, the amusement park with the big ferris wheel, the Gear Station battle subway, the numerous arcades scattered throughout… In fact it might be better for them to just head to Nimbasa right away in the morning, though she’d wait for Kraven’s input first before settling on any for-sure decision.】☆ ☆

It was certainly hard to argue with her logic, not that Kraven seemed to be of a different mind on the subject. She smiled a bit at the color that rose up at her remark, Phee's casualness doing little to hide it from her companion. "Obviously! Hell we'll practically be spoiled for choice once we get to Lumiose." The fatigue mounting beneath the surface fortunately never grew too great for the raven-haired trainer to handle, but she appreciated the redhead sticking so close regardless. She'd be lying if she said it wasn't a bit embarrassing to be struggling so much from so little, but it wouldn't do her any good to complain about the understanding. "Maybe so. Doesn't hurt either that I get to eat in good company."
Once they were seated again and filling up at the Pokemon Center, it was a little easier for the young woman to take her mind off that nagging ache in her flesh. Between hot food, soft seats, and resumed conversation, Kraven had little trouble picking up where she'd left off once Gungnir strayed from the other pokemon. "Mainly off the top of my head. When you set yourself up so well, I can't help but say what comes to mind." She chuckled, both at the restored red spread across her cheeks and the hasty hasty silence Phee bought herself with fries. "Doesn't hurt either when you get all cute when you're all red like that."
Before they could discuss that too much further, Klaus made his return to their side, sliding himself into a spot at the table to make their duo a trio again. Between Phee and Kraven, they were able to appraise him of the broad strokes that he'd missed with little issue, though the Zoroark didn't really perk up until he'd been informed of the redhead's response to their newfound friendship. "To be fair, he's not that far off. I was almost afraid you'd suddenly jump out of your seat with how much you were shaking at the dinner." The young woman scooted a bit in her seat to sit more upright, now that discussions turned a little more involved. The motion wasn't something her resting Oshawott enjoyed, but once she settled down he simply moved again, this time trying to fit himself under Kraven's jacket like a small dog. "Is it really that out of the ordinary though? I know she's shy and all, but Phee's gotta have more people-friends than me."
After that, the topic shifted towards their travel plans, which Phoenix seemed eager to move towards--undoubtedly just since it was away from the discussions on her. Kraven had to wonder if Klaus had ever actually been to Kalos or Sinnoh before, but before she could inquire on any familiarity Phee seemed to have a plan in mind. "There's a desert between here and Nimbasa?" She gave her friend a quizzical look. "Part of me figured that was deeper into the region... Well, if we need some thing to deal with Electric-types that's probably as good a place as any to grab some. Why don't we go through some of the wild pokemon on the way, and then maybe hit up some trainers when we get to the city proper? It'll be good to get some extra cash from the fight money anyway." Nimbasa certainly sounded like an interesting place, from what she was hearing. The musician knew a little bit about it, considering that it was probably the most famous of the two major cities people heard about for Unova. Certainly helped that Elesa's career choices made her quite popular in Kalos, loosely remembering her from a bevy of magazines.

☆ ☆【The casual banter resuming once more between them helped move things along fairly smoothly much to Phoenix’s relief, the incident involving the sudden Aerodactyl attack minutes ago seemingly all but forgotten. Even as she kept her eyes on the road ahead of them, however, the redhead made sure to keep Kraven within her periphery as she stuck close by her friend. While it was probably unlikely that the other would just suddenly keel over right then and there from fatigue, it would be best to monitor her closely in the meantime and be prepared to step in to help as needed. Phoenix brightened considerably at Kraven’s agreement to return the favor of treating her out to all sorts of good places to eat, even saying they’d essentially have a wide range of choices to pick from when they would reach Lumiose. She had to wonder what sort of cuisine they had over there… if there were any dishes that were unique to Kalos that couldn’t be found anywhere else. Of course, if Kraven said it was good then surely it had to be, right? All this talk about food was definitely not helping her mounting hunger one bit, though with the Pokemon Center in sight neither of the two trainers would have to worry about their hunger for too much longer.
”Maybe so. Doesn’t hurt either that I get to eat in good company.”
Phoenix chuckled softly, holding a hand up to her face in a flimsy attempt to try to hide the red blooming across her cheeks. It admittedly felt nice that Kraven really thought that of her, though the redhead hardly felt like she deserved such praise. Still, coming from a friend she supposed she had little other choice but to accept it regardless. However, they reached their destination and moved to get themselves settled in before she could even attempt to get out a response. By the time they’d sat themselves down in the soft, well cushioned seats of the booth with trays of warm food between them the conversation had since then moved on. Of course, Kraven had to take some opportunity to playfully tease Phoenix as she was known to do, saying that she primarily got her ‘ridiculous ideas’ off the cuff when the opportunity came for them. That and it certainly wasn’t hard when the redhead often set herself up for such things. While Phoenix felt that she was gradually becoming more used to her dark-haired friend’s joking and even countering it, what came out of Kraven’s mouth next caught the redhead so off guard that she just about choked on the fries she’d eaten in an attempt to keep herself from digging the hole any deeper for herself.
”C-C-CUTE?!?!” her mind screamed in a mix of shock and disbelief, her face redder than a steamed Clauncher as she coughed into her hand to spare herself from dying due to accidental fry inhalation. Hastily swallowing them down, Phoenix couldn’t bear to look at her friend’s face as she buried her own into her hands in a poor attempt to hide her embarrassment. ”Dear Arceus, I think I’m gonna die…” Taking a deep breath to try and regain at least some of her composure as she slowly pulled her hands away and pointedly turned her attention back to her food, thankfully Klaus joining them allowed the conversation to move along elsewhere. But of course she could only escape the embarrassment for so long as the Zoroark seemed far more invested in learning how well they’d been getting along as newfound friends, even praising her as he ruffled her hair like the proudest father/older brother in the world much to her dismay and protest. Fending off Klaus’s playful antics, Phoenix narrowed her eyes somewhat as Kraven chimed in too while the Dark-type snickered in the background.
Klaus hummed softly as the dark-haired musician seemed a bit surprised at his remark about it being quite a while since the redhead had actually made another human friend, insisting that surely she had to have more of those kinds of friends than just her.”Well, she does have at least one other human friend, a childhood friend of hers. But other than that, it’s pretty much just you right now,”he offered, a wry smile on his muzzle as he ate a handful of fries,”Phee tended to stay in the back taking care of the Pokemon at the daycare, she was rarely ever upfront to talk with customers. And even then she usually didn’t speak unless directly addressed and could barely bring herself to meet their eyes. Her other friend being a not-very-talkative sort of lone wolf type certainly didn’t work wonders to improve her already lacking social skills either.”
He shifted a little, making himself a bit more comfortable before continuing as his smile warmed a bit more.”It’d been the missus’s idea to send Phee out on a Pokemon journey to some degree, I think she felt that it’d be easier for her to make more friends by traveling around the world with her Pokemon,”he explained,”Naturally I went along with her, because for one she’s my closest friend and partner since we were young so I’d be there for her no matter what. And for two, if she wasn’t going to reach out to people on her own then it’d be up to me to give her that push she needs. And look where it’s gotten us now~”
”I’m sat right here, you know,” Phoenix piped up, flashing the Zoroark a look of annoyance as she elbowed him. He simply smiled and winked back at her, nodding towards the dark-haired woman.”That being said, I feel that if anyone could help Phee come out of her shell it’d definitely be you, Kraven. Perhaps if she could befriend more people like you she could grow to be more open and comfortable to reach out to others, shake off some of that recluse rust that’s built up over the years~”he suggested. In all fairness, he had taken somewhat of a shot in the dark when he’d reached out to Kraven the first time they’d met in Nuvema. At the time he felt that it would be considered an accomplishment to at least get Phoenix to talk to someone, anyone at all. Now that he could see just how good of friends the pair were becoming and how easy it was for his trainer to engage the other on her own, he felt confident that it had worked out for the better in the end. Kraven’s more extroverted attitude seemed like a nice complement to Phoenix’s quieter, closed off introverted personality, and they did say opposites tended to attract!
Of course, while they were sat together and sharing small talk amongst each other, naturally they moved on to try to figure out their plans for tomorrow after they’d eaten breakfast and were ready to move onwards. Klaus listened with rapt attention at his trainer’s suggestions, considering they’d already gone through Pinwheel Forest at least four times already he doubted anyone was eager to go to yet another forest. Tempting as maybe visiting Lostlorn was, though, the Desert Resort was admittedly a bit more interesting location. Plus with Elesa’s gym being Electric-type, it would be the perfect place to find Ground-types to help them in the upcoming battle. Phoenix tilted her head slightly as Kraven voiced her curious question about the desert, saying that she’d figured it would’ve been further inland. ”Yeah, it’s actually about a few miles just past the outskirts of Castelia heading north,” she said, fiddling a bit with the Xtransceiver on her wrist to bring up a map of the region and pointing to its location. Still, the idea of visiting the Desert Resort was hardly a bad idea. And she knew she could definitely use a Pokemon on her team to help hard counter against Elesa’s Electric-types.
”Yeah, that sounds like a good plan to me. I certainly wouldn’t mind a quick visit to the desert if you’d be fine with it, Kraven,” Phoenix chimed in, offering a warm smile as she lightly added in, ”A bit of extra money wouldn’t hurt either if I’m going to be taking you out to eat so much.” The Zoroark listened as he polished off the last of his burger and moved on to the rest of the fries, blue eyes glittering as a thought came to him.”That’s where the Relic Castle is as well, if you two might be interested in checking that out,”Klaus tossed in his two cents with a shrug and a grin,”Not sure if you’re the type to really be into ruins, Kraven, but it could still be worth looking into if either of you might want to catch or battle some stronger Pokemon while you’re there.”Admittedly the redhead hadn’t given much thought to the Relic Castle, but it could be worth at least checking out for a bit if Kraven was up for it. At the very least having some strong Pokemon with them would certainly help make things easier against Elesa. ”Right, well if that’s settled then we’ll head out tomorrow morning after breakfast,” Phoenix said, giving a curious look towards their dark-haired friend though her tone belied concern, ”Suppose we could try to shoot for staying at a nearby hotel if you don’t mind walking a bit of a ways. But if you’d rather not, the Pokemon Center has plenty of rooms open so we could always just overnight here instead.” Given Kraven’s soreness from taking two falls and the fatigue weighing on her, Phoenix would rather not try to chance going out for a hotel if her companion wasn’t feeling up to it. The day had been long and far more eventful than she’d been anticipating, and she was more than prepared to just flop onto the nearest bed and call it a night right there. Plus at least here in the Pokecenter they’d definitely have a better chance at finding a room with two separate beds, even though it wasn’t even really that late in the night as it’d been when they’d returned from Tanabata.】☆ ☆

The raven-haired musician hardly knew how strongly the redhead felt her praise, simply saying what she felt as they made their way through the town. Of course, the way Phee's face heated up for a few buttons was far easier to notice, the results fueling her continued teasing even after they settled in for dinner. Although, the way Phoenix practically began to glow at the word "cute" caught Kraven offguard, taking her aback when her companion struggled with her food and seemingly had a harder time returning her gaze. "P-Phee? You alright over there?" She leaned over to try and peek into the girl's field of vision, the fun and games needing to be put on hold once someone started choking. "Was that one a little too strong? I didn't think you'd take it that bad."
If nothing else, her worry was assuaged as Phee calmed down with Klaus' encroaching presence, happy to move away from whatever it was she seemingly did wrong. Before long though, the Zoroark began answering a question Kraven had on her mind at least since the diner, taking in his explaination of the redhead's background. "I see, I see. I guess that makes sense, especially when she's able to just talk to the pokemon. Human contact isn't quite so necessary for proper conversation at that point." She turned briefly to Phee with a curious glance. "Your buddy still up there I'm guessing?"
The rest of the explanation wasn't terribly surprising. Getting sent out into the world by family to make someone grow was pretty common, and Klaus certainly fit the "dedicated partner" role most folks expected of the pokemon closest to their trainers. Watching Phee chime in and jab at Klaus and the way they went back and forth at times... It brought an odd twinge of envy out from the back of Kraven's thoughts. Must be nice, she thought, having a partner like that, tapping her fingers against the table. It didn't show on her face, but for a brief moment she got lost thinking about it, before Klaus turned his attention back to her.
"Well, I don't think I'm anything too special, but I agree." She leaned back into the seat, looking between trainer and pokemon. "The best way to get used to people is to meet them. And fortunately, traveling about all around is the best way to do that. We'll probably run into people well before then, but how 'bout the next time we go off somewhere--like a festival or an arena or even just a small party--we try making you some new friends?" Kraven settled on her friend with a wide smile, beaming with the kind of pleasant, earnest energy that would not at all accept a no.
Then yet again the topics changed, bringing them back to charting the path. Kraven scooted up and leaned in across the table to get a good look at the map Phee brought up, nodding her head to the information. "Huh, what do you know. And here I thought the cowboy had the desert to cross. You're right though, it would be good to stock up." A sly smile appeared on her lips as the musician pointed through the hologram, towards Phoenix. "I'll be doing the same once we make the jump on our little cross-regional road trip. Though jokes aside, don't worry about footing all the bills, I can pay for myself if it's a problem." Shifting back her ears perked up a bit when Klaus made another suggestion, turning to him with a faint glint in her eye. "A castle huh? Sounds like fun." She came off the table as Gungnir began to complain, grumbling under his newfound blanket. "Wonder if they're anything like the stuff in Kalos. I don't mind adding it to the list." It seemed they finally had a solid idea of what to do from here, all the catch-up and retracing finally behind them for pure progress.
That, however, would have to wait until morning. When Phee wrapped up their dinner-table discussions all neatly, the moment Kraven was dreading finally arrived. With a deep, clearly exaggerated sigh, the trainer slowly slid over to the edge of the booth, briefly tugging up her shirt to pull her Oshawott out from under it. Taking him into her arms, she rose to her feet, feeling every fiber of her being telling her to sit back down and stop moving. In spite of that, she was still able to stand, and though she played up the effort it took to do so answered her friend. "Well, they're still a pain but these legs haven't given out on me yet. They'll take me anywhere I need, so it's up to you."
Glancing back at the table, Kraven didn't realize she'd stopped eating until she spotted the lone surviving chicken wing sitting untouched on her plate. Not one to waste food, she shifted her hold on Gungnir and simply took it for the road, munching on the half-cold meat for the road.

☆ ☆【The bit of lighthearted teasing courtesy of Kraven was hardly unwelcome as far as Phoenix was concerned while they bantered over dinner, now that she was gradually becoming more acquainted with her partner’s antics it felt like it established a sense of normalcy between them. They were friends after all, that was the sort of thing friends did, right? However, when Kraven suddenly called her ‘cute’ it seemed to catch the redhead completely off guard as her face lit up like the 4th of July, just barely sparing herself from choking on the fries she’d been in the process of eating as she hid her face behind her hands in embarrassment. She’d just barely caught a glance at her friend’s surprised look beforehand, seemed even Kraven hadn’t anticipated for the redhead to have such a reaction to what seemed like a simple compliment. She could somewhat make out Kraven’s face and red eyes peering through the open gaps between her fingers, asking if she was alright and if that one had been a bit too strong.
Her friend sounded worried… Arceus, it had just a simple compliment! She supposed she just hadn’t expected it and wasn’t sure how to react… no one had ever really called her ‘cute’ before, at least not until now. She’d heard people call other people ‘cute’ before so it wasn’t that foreign to her… and in that case it had mostly been between couples, maybe the association was what had made her react so strongly. ”’M fine…” she tried to say, though it honestly came out more like a half-cough mixed with a strangled yip. Taking a deep breath to try to regain her composure, she kept her eyes on her food as she tried to tone down the red on her cheeks. ”I’m… fine, it’s fine,” she repeated her answer in a hushed voice and a shaky smile, just moments before Klaus finally joined them. Letting the conversation move along, Phoenix listened to the Zoroark giving her new friend a crash course on her background, offering some more insight that perhaps the redhead’s shyness had roots that ran a lot deeper than she’d initially thought.
The dark-haired girl seemed to understand, remarking that human contact wasn’t really as necessary since Phee herself was able to speak to Pokemon. She perked up a bit at the question directed her way, offering a small smile and a nod in return. ”Yeah, Clarke’s still at the daycare in Icirrus, probably wondering if I’ll be coming back home anytime soon. I… guess I could try to introduce you to him when we get up there, if you want to meet him.” Emphasis on try, given what she knew about Clarke at best they might be able to find some common ground or at least talk a little, at worst it would be incredibly awkward for everyone involved… Not that she’d try to stop Kraven if she really did want to meet him, though maybe a warning beforehand would be best.
As Klaus launched into the rest of his explanation, Phoenix couldn’t help butting in as she jabbed her elbow at him much like an annoyed little sister would and reminded him that she was right there. Being used to it, the Zoroark simply let it slide like water off a Ducklett’s back and simply flashed her a cheeky grin and wink in turn. Noticing Kraven looking a bit lost in thought, however, he was quick to rope her back into the conversation and suggested she could help Phoenix in overcoming her crippling shyness. Klaus flashed her a bright smile as she agreed, though remarked that she wasn’t really anything special.”Oh nonsense! The fact that Phee actually enjoys your company in spite of everything seems pretty special if you ask me,”he chimed in, giving her a knowing wink,”I’ve said it once and I’ll say it as many times as I need to. You’re definitely a keeper, Kraven~”Phoenix felt her cheeks brighten a touch at that, though she nodded in agreement with the sentiment nonetheless. They listened to Kraven’s spiel quietly and intently, suggesting that even though they might meet other people well before it happened she should try making some new friends next time they went off to a festival or party or any event with a decently sized gathering. ”Ah… w-well… um…” she hesitated, dithering a bit under her friend’s broad, earnest grin as she fiddled with her fingers. She wasn’t sure how she’d be able to deal with so many strangers all at once, she never really was the type to attend those kinds of big events because of how crowded they were. She’d been fine enough at Tanabata because it was an open air festival and the islands had plenty of room for visitors without too many people getting bunched up together. But it should be fine as long as she had Kraven and her Pokemon with her, right? Maybe she could even meet other people who were as nice as her raven-haired friend. ”I… I guess I could at least try… It can’t be so bad, could it?” she offered, not sounding at all confident but it was certainly better than a flat out ‘no’.
Moving on to what their next plans were, it seemed they had a general consensus of stopping by the Desert Resort to train up a little before reaching Nimbasa. Phoenix chuckled in amusement at Kraven’s remark about the desert when she showed her the map, but doing some training and stocking up on Ground-types for Elesa’s gym was agreed to be a good idea. The redhead’s lips quirked up in a smirk at the sly grin that crossed Kraven’s face as she pointed at her, saying she’d do the same once they set off on their inter-regional trip. Still, she insisted that the redhead didn’t have to worry about dealing with all the bills, and that she could pay for herself if it’s a problem. ”Oh trust me, it’s no problem. No problem at all,” she reassured earnestly with a soft laugh, ”I’m glad to treat you out to anything, really. The only reason I’d stop doing so is if you tell me to, but if you want to at least chip in a bit to either help pay bills or for tips then I won’t stop you.” It wasn’t until Klaus spoke again that Phoenix realized she’d neglected to mention the Relic Castle when she’d talked about the Desert Resort, but maybe popping in there for a bit wouldn’t be a half bad idea either. Kraven was in agreement on the idea too, saying that it sounded like fun and wondering if the castle was anything like what they had in Kalos. Of course, Gungnir wasn’t too happy that his ‘bed’ kept moving around, and the redhead couldn’t help but giggle a bit under her breath at the grumpy Oshawott’s complaints. ”They have castles in Kalos too?” Phoenix couldn’t help asking, looking curiously towards her friend, ”But yeah, I certainly don’t mind going to the Relic Castle either. It’s one of the few places in Unova I haven’t been to yet, so it’d be a pretty new experience for me too.”
With full bellies and a roadmap planned out for tomorrow, Phoenix was ready to get going to either find a hotel to stay in or a room in the Pokecenter to stay in depending on how much further her friend was willing to go. Chuckling softly at the obviously exaggerated sigh from Kraven, the redhead edged herself to the booth’s edge as Klaus relinquished his seat to let her out. With her Pokemon having eaten their fills, she returned all of them save for Klaus and their new Aerodactyl companion. Satisfied and happy, the big fossil immediately came galumphing over and smothered the redhead in grateful nuzzles mixed with a couple licks of the face. ”Aha, you’re welcome…” she said with an amused laugh, gently pushing its muzzle away to give her a bit of breathing room. Now, what to do with her? It didn’t feel right to just let her go back out on her own, it was likely that the big bird had just barely been getting by on what food it could find before the incident earlier… It didn’t seem like she even had any trainer to go back to… ”I guess you can come along with us, you won’t have to worry so much about food as opposed to just hunting out there,” she concluded, pulling an empty Pokeball out of her bag, ”But you can’t go around attacking people like that again, okay? You could’ve injured someone pretty seriously, and it’s not very nice to do at all. Understand?” The Aerodactyl gave a soft, keening whine as she lowered her head towards the ground, posture slumped and spade-tipped tail tucked guiltily between her legs. At least she had the good grace to look apologetic.”Am sorry… Was too hungry, not stop…. Not hurt again…”the great fossil bird rumbled lowly, slowly raising her head as she felt Phoenix’s hand rest upon it.
”Good girl,” the redhead praised gently as she stroked behind her rocky horns, bringing the Pokeball forth and lightly tapping the button against the Aerodactyl’s nose, ”I think I’ll call you… Jetta.” With a contented yip and a few happy wags of the tail the bird disappeared into its new home, pleased to have found someone to take care of her now. The Aerodactyl situation now sorted out and settled, Phoenix turned her focus back to her companion as she rose to her feet, asking if she’d be fine enough to try getting to a hotel or if it’d be better for them to just stay overnight here. She gave a tiny smile, though the concern in her deep blue eyes hardly faded at Kraven’s answer.”Well in case you might need it, I’d be happy to carry you the rest of the way~”Klaus offered with a wink, grinning as his trainer glowered at him. ”I don’t think that’ll be necessary,” she said, stepping closer towards her friend almost protectively.
Worrying at her lip a little, Phoenix gave the dark-haired musician a quick once over as she slowly lifted a hand. She seemed hesitant for a moment, but only for a moment as she reached over, smiling and giving the dozing Oshawott in Kraven’s arms a few gentle rubs on the head. She then reached around behind the other’s back and carefully wrapped an arm around her friend’s shoulders, her hand keeping a firm but not too tight grip. ”I… Is this okay…?” the redhead asked quietly, lips taut as her eyes slid to the side a bit awkwardly. She didn’t want to seem like she was invading her friend’s privacy… but if Kraven didn’t object to it then it was fine, right? Still, she kept her arm slack enough to release in case the contact was unwelcome, it was mostly just as a precaution on the off chance the other ended up succumbing to fatigue on the way there. ”The closest hotel is just about a half a block’s walk from here, let’s go,” she suggested, gesturing for them to get going once the other was ready. She chuckled under her breath as she noticed the musician whittling away at the single remaining chicken wing that had yet to be eaten, patiently waiting for Kraven to return her Pokemon and anything else that had to be taken care of before they head out.】☆ ☆

Had Phee not come close to becoming the world's first suffocating tomato Kraven might've believed her reassurances. Yet worried still, she backed off and gave the girl space, making a note to herself avoid saying that again in the future... Or at the very least, keeping the redhead rooted to the earth before she sent her flying off like a bottle rocket. She'd calmed down at least by the time Klaus returned, resuming their discussions.
The young woman quirked a brow at her companion's wording, but otherwise didn't grasp her uncertainty on such introductions. "Sure! No reason not to when we're in the area. I'll be interested in seeing what this mysterious partner in crime you've got is like~" If she was so bereft of friends, Kraven could only assume that the two had to be close at least. She dared not make assumptions on people she knew naught of, but... Her mind couldn't help but gleam observations based on the girl in front of her, studying her face for a moment and thinking on the matter.
Of course, Klaus doesn't take long to capture the musician's attention once more, and she listened intently for his conclusion. She couldn't help but laugh a bit when he winked, shaking her head. "That is some high praise. Well, I'll do my best to take care of your trainer~" Her attention then returned to the aforementioned trainer, already beaming with a ploy to open up the reclusive redhead. A fool-proof plan, really, simple and elegant, even if they'd have to dial it back a bit when the time came. Kraven didn't really expect to coax her so far as to throw herself into the crowd, but as long as she could get Phee there it was possible to pick out some folks and strike up conversation. "That's the spirit. And I wouldn't worry, so long as you keep your chin up and get them talking, you'll start making new friends in now time. And if there are any problems... Well, I'll be there to make room for the next person." The young woman playfully cracked her knuckles, briefly being reminded of the strike she'd landed while still wandering the Distortion World.
Once they were onto travel plans, their destinations gradually lined up into place. "Sounds good to me. Free food is nice and all, but you can only have so much before it starts being mooching off goodwill." The mention of castles of a foreign land promptly piqued both trainer's interests, something Kraven was all too happy to elaborate on. "Yeah, there's one just a town away from Lumiose actually! It's not quite what it used to be, but they've done some really nice restoration work to keep it all pristine. There's a lot of ruins dotted about and a few larger structures off the main roads, but I hear Galar's just chock full of them." Adding Relic Castle to their list was a rather quick sell, and it was clear that the raven-haired trainer was interested in seeing this foreign castle.
By then, they'd (mostly) finished their meals and finally settled on a plan of attack, which also meant it was time to finally get up and pack it in for the night. Kraven did her bit and smiled some at the now docile Aerodactyl's affection for their new trainer, using that time to return the bulk of her team. Only her starter remained where he was, content to resume his plan of using Kraven as a bed and stealing her warmth as he lounged. Once she reported her state to Phoenix, she couldn't help but shake her head at Klaus' offer, as well as how quickly the redhead moved between them. "I'll be fine. I'm afraid you've likely missed your chance to have someone playing the princess in all this castle talk." When Phee moved yet closer, Gungnir leaned his head against the foreign palm ever so slightly, while the rest of him remained glued to his trainer's chest.
Kraven meanwhile moved little at her advances, only adjusting herself to give Phoenix a better hold. "Yeah, this'll do just fine." She leaned into her companion, sharing a bit of the weight that seemed to be spreading through her body. The musician nodded at the directions and followed the girl's lead, using the pause only to finish the last piece of food and make sure her hands were clean. "Thanks for this, Phee. I know you two have said it yourselves, but... I'm glad we were able to meet." Her free hand now avaliable, Kraven wrapped herself similarly around the redhead, holding the redhead close as they started on their way. All the while, Gungnir shifted about in the woman's grasp, once more adjusting for comfort until he ended up settling between them.

Clarke was definitely more of the quiet, stand offish sort, based on that alone the redhead wasn’t sure how he might react to someone as outgoing and excitable as Kraven… Maybe with a bit of pushing they might be able to have a pleasant enough conversation at least, or it could result in a lot of awkwardness for everyone… ”Ah, s-sure, I suppose we might as well if I’m going to be showing you around the daycare and introducing you to the rest of my folks,” she suggested, trying not to let the note of uncertainty show too much in her voice, ”I’d certainly hope you two might get on pretty well with each other~” Arceus, she hoped she wouldn’t regret this… Knowing Clarke, his reaction upon first meeting would most likely be something along the lines of ‘who is this stranger and why are they in our house’. Still, all she really could do for now was cross her fingers under the table and hope for the best when the time finally came for it.
Klaus’s grin widened a bit more at Kraven’s response to his praise, assuring that she’d do her best to take care of Phoenix.”I have no doubts you will~”he chimed, quite pleased with the other’s answer. As far as the people they knew went, Kraven was certainly up there with the few people the Zoroark would implicitly entrust with his trainer’s well-being. Still, if anything bad ever happened to Phoenix on her new friend’s account, well… Needless to say there would certainly be some… unforeseen consequences that would in no way be carried out on his part. That being said, he had to admit Kraven’s plan to help introduce Phoenix to new people and coax her along into making some new friends during their travels was a nice idea, plain and simple. Phoenix would surely grow to feel more comfortable in engaging strangers on her own with the support of a good friend… Of course they wouldn’t just set her loose into a large crowd of people and hope for the best, but maybe they could eventually get her to that point with plenty of time and practice. Small steps… Phoenix smiled at Kraven’s reassurance, a soft laugh escaping her lips at the suggestion of ‘making room for the next person’ if any problems came up as she cracked her knuckles. ”Aha, th-thanks, I’ll certainly try my best. I would, uh… hope any issues wouldn’t have to come down to fisticuffs but the sentiment is appreciated,” she said, sheepishly rubbing at her neck.
As far as travel plans were concerned, the redhead felt quite satisfied as they put together a pretty good plan to kick off with tomorrow morning. It’d start with a nice breakfast in the city, a trip to the Desert Resort and Relic Castle to train against some wild Pokemon, then to Nimbasa to look for any trainers interested in battling and perhaps checking out the sights on the side as well. Kraven agreed with the suggestion of chipping in to handle their restaurant bills or leave a tip for the wait staff, saying that while free food was nice there was only so much before it became freeloading off of someone else’s goodwill. Regardless, Phoenix certainly appreciated any help her friend could pitch in, while she wasn’t all that particularly concerned about money it would be nice to not have to handle all the bills on her own. At the mention of castles in Kalos, however, Phoenix couldn’t help but find her interest piqued as the question left her lips without so much as a second thought. Her eyes lit up at Kraven’s elaboration, quite interested to hear that it wasn’t that far outside of Lumiose and that there were a lot of ruins scattered about on the main road as well as some larger buildings off the main road there. ”Oh? Well I’d definitely like to see what it’s like when we go to Kalos! I would assume since it’s a restored castle it’s a fair bit different from the Relic Castle here since it’s more or less a pretty large ruin,” she suggested, blinking a bit at the last part, ”Galar? I… honestly don’t think I’ve heard much about that place…” They didn’t exactly get many tourists from there up in Icirrus, but from what she had heard in passing Galar apparently had a vast wilderness area where many different kinds of Pokemon lived. She wondered what it was like over there, and the suggestion of castles only made her all the more interested… Maybe she’d consider adding that to their cross-regional destination plans if Kraven wanted to check it out too.
Plans for tomorrow in mind and satisfied with their meals, it was probably about time they peeled out and found themselves a place to stay the night before it got too late. Happy to take the Aerodactyl along with her as a new teammate and the pair returning all of their Pokemon save for one each, Phoenix focused on checking her companion’s condition before they left, unable to help her amusement at Gungnir continuing to doze off as he fully intended on using his trainer as his own personal bed. Klaus simply chuckled when his offer of carrying their fatigued friend was immediately shot down by both trainers, Phoenix moving to step between them as Kraven lightly said he’d missed his chance at having someone play princess with all the talk of castles earlier.”Ah, a shame. Suppose I’d just have to find my princess in another castle then~”he relented with a shrug. Moving closer to the other, Phoenix couldn’t resist giving Gungnir a few pets, smiling as the Oshawott leaned a bit into her hand. She then gently wrapped her arm around Kraven’s shoulder, a bit uncertain about the gesture and leaving it free for her friend to simply shrug it off if she didn’t need it.
However, rather than shake off Phoenix’s hold Kraven simply moved to adjust herself into it, assuring that it would do just fine as she leaned against the redhead. Taking a breath as a bit of red crept into her cheeks as she remembered the hug they’d shared earlier, she smiled as she allowed her dark-haired companion to finish off the last of her meal before they made their way out of the cafeteria and the Pokemon Center. ”You’re welcome, it’s really the least I can do for a friend,” she returned, her smile brightening a touch as she in turn held her friend a bit closer, ”And yeah… I’m really glad too. I’ll admit I wasn’t sure of how things might unfold when we first agreed to travel together, but I’m really happy it turned out like this.” Back on the streets of Castelia, moon bright in the sky and making the sea below shimmer with silvery light, the pair and their Pokemon headed up the block towards where the aforementioned hotel was. ”I’m sorry for earlier, by the way… When you called me, um… cute…” she spoke up, giving her friend a sidelong glance as she shook her head, ”It’s just… No one’s ever said that to me before and I guess I… I just didn’t know how to react properly… I didn’t mean to make it weird or anything like that, and I’m sorry if it came off that way…” She probably shouldn’t have made a big deal out of what was otherwise a simple compliment, but she still felt ashamed for making her friend worry like that. Though now that she had time to really think on it… she could safely say that she hadn’t hated or even disliked it, maybe it meant something different coming from a friend as opposed to a significant other. Or maybe she should just stop overthinking things in general, that would certainly be a start.】☆ ☆

"Hopefully not. Though as long I'm not having to fling myself off a cliff to get a punch in again I don't think we'll have much trouble." Confrontational as she might've sounded, Kraven knew full well that not everyone was gonna want to be friends on their journey. And it would've been disingenuous to say that they weren't gonna run into any problems along the way, but she was fully confident she could keep them safe. Add onto that their pokemon, and it felt as if she had every reason to be confident.
When their discussion moved to their next destination, they eventually got onto the topic of castles, both on the way and abroad. "We'll make a pitstop while we're there then. It's actually pretty nice, though I've only been there a couple times. Should still be interesting to see what they've got around here." At the mention of Galar, Phee's understandable confusion got Kraven to backpedal briefly to address it. "Yeah, apparently they keep to themselves pretty well over there. Seems like they did a lot of just building on top of old structures and the like." It certainly wouldn't be the worst place to make another stop along the way, plus if her memory was right it wouldn't be too much further than Kalos already.
Before long they were finally ready to put the day behind them, collecting themselves, their team, and rising from the table to make their way out of the Center. Kraven simply followed her friend from there, trusting Phee to guide them where they needed to go. "It's quite alright, don't worry," she was quick to reassure her friend. "If I'd have known it'd hit you that hard, I would've waited at least until you finished eating." Chuckling, the musician rubbed her hand against the girl's side, in lieu of really being able to do anything else with it. Confident as she was in her legs, she didn't want to chance it while already leaning on her companion. "But hey, everyone's gotta have a first right? You won't know how you feel about something until it's right in front of you."

☆ ☆【Phoenix chuckled at her friend’s confident sounding remark, humming and nodding in quiet agreement. Of course, it wasn’t like everyone they might end up meeting during their travels would be expected to be friendly, though she certainly hoped that even if they happened to come across some particularly… not nice-mannered individuals any confrontation that might come of it wouldn’t escalate into violence. And in case that did happen, Phoenix felt like she could rely on both Kraven and their collective parties of Pokemon to keep them safe. That made her feel a touch more confident, even though she was still unsure of how to handle the possibility of meeting a new stranger. How would she even begin to start a conversation after the usual greetings and pleasantries were exchanged? She supposed she could worry about crossing that bridge when they got there, though… There was plenty of time to think things over until then.
The redhead perked up at Kraven’s agreement to make a stop at the castle in Kalos during their trip there, saying it was quite nice there and she’d only been about a couple times herself. She had to wonder what the structure itself looked like… given how different it likely was compared to the Relic Castle it probably looked a lot more like a proper traditional castle. And likely a lot less sand too assuming it wasn’t also located in the middle of a desert… Kraven’s mention of Galar caught Phoenix’s attention immediately as she quickly slipped in a question about the region, she hadn’t heard a lot about the area herself since they rarely got any Galar native tourists in town. What she did know was that the region was home to a vast area of wilderness spanning between major cities, and that apparently some of the Pokemon that could be found there had actually come over from Unova. But apparently there were castles there too, though from the sounds of it they’d mostly done a lot of building on top of the old structures. ”I see… Well, if you wouldn’t mind checking out Galar as well during our regional travels then I’d definitely like to see what it’s like over there,” Phoenix suggested with a small smile, ”We don’t really have to stay there for long, of course. But at least learning the lay of the land and exploring some of the big landmarks could be some fun new experiences for our trip.”
By the time they finished off their food, got their bearings and returned most of their Pokemon, Phoenix was happy to lead the way as she kept a firm hold around her friend’s shoulders while they left the Pokemon Center behind for the lamplit streets of Castelia. Not that she doubted her friend’s assurances that she should be able to get to their destination just fine in spite of her soreness and fatigue, but the redhead felt it was best to at least take some precautions just in case. As the pair and their two remaining Pokemon made their way down the street, Phoenix spoke up and apologized for what had happened earlier at the dinner table and for making her friend worry about her like that. A small smile crossed her face as Kraven reassured her, saying that if she’d known it would’ve affected her that much she would’ve at least waited until she’d finished eating. ”Aha, well I can’t really blame you there… It’s not like you could’ve known ahead of time, to be fair neither did I,” she chuckled lightly, her smile widening as she felt the gentle rub against her side. ”Yeah, that’s true enough I suppose,” Phoenix hummed in agreement, ”It definitely seems like I’m discovering a lot of firsts for myself just from today alone, makes me wonder how much there’s still out there to learn.” Looking back towards the street ahead, the redhead pursed her lips in thought as her eyes seemed to grow distant for a brief moment. Klaus quietly walked alongside them all the while, listening to their conversation while he kept an eye out. The alleys of Castelia were definitely not the kind of places you wanted to be near when it was dark out, Arceus knows who or what could be hiding out in those collecting shadows just beyond one’s perception.
Thankfully the walk to the hotel Phoenix had mentioned was mercifully short, Klaus quickly moving a bit ahead and holding the door open so the pair could make their way inside without any troubles. Murmuring a ‘thanks’ to the Zoroark, the redhead led the way over towards the front desk manned by an older looking gentleman in traditional concierge garb who looked up when he’d heard the rush of wind from the door opening. Looking between the pair of trainers and how they had their arms wrapped around each other’s shoulders, the clerk gave them a curious look as he smiled and dipped his head in greeting.”Good evening, ladies,”he addressed pleasantly, already moving a hand under the desk to grab a room key,”I would assume the both of you will be rooming in together tonight. Would you like the couple’s suite, then?”The moment those last few words left the man’s mouth, Phoenix shook her head to put the kibosh on that train of events before it rolled too far down the tracks. ”Just a regular two bedroom suite would be fine if you have any available, thank you.” The clerk gave the pair a quizzical look, before smiling and nodding in understanding as he fished up a room key and placed it on the counter.
”Of course, miss. That’ll be $75 for an overnight stay in a two bedroom suite, your room number is 232,”he said as he rang it up on the little cash register on his desk,"Continental breakfast is offered from 7 to 9 AM down here in the dining room."The redhead simply smiled and nodded gratefully to the man, knowing full well they already had plans for tomorrow morning and wouldn't be partaking in that complementary breakfast. Though they might at least grab a small something to snack on on the way to Crawford's... Using her free hand, Phoenix fished her wallet out of her bag, though she couldn’t exactly get out the money herself since that would mean letting go of Kraven. ”Klaus, if you don’t mind,” she inquired, holding it out towards him. The Zoroark was happy to oblige as he took it with a grin, thumbing through and pulling out a small wad of bills equal to $75 before placing the wallet back into his trainer’s bag and sliding the money over to the clerk. With a smile as the money was accepted and the room key grabbed by the redhead, the clerk tipped his hat to them.
”You ladies have a pleasant night~”With a small smile and a ‘Thanks’ to the man, Phoenix guided her friend over towards the elevator, not wanting to chance trying to go up to the second floor via the stairs with Kraven’s condition. A button press and a couple minutes later as the elevator car arrived they all piled in, Klaus taking the courtesy of hitting the number 2 button once inside to take them up to their floor as he resisted the temptation to press all of them simultaneously.
As the elevator doors closed and it began moving, the Zoroark settled in next to the pair.”You know, what are the chances that guy actually gave you two the key and number to a room that actually turns out to be a couple’s suite when we actually get there?”he asked as he looked between them, foxish grin plastered on his muzzle as he lightly elbowed the redhead in a ‘wink wink nudge nudge’ fashion. ”Don’t even joke about that, Klaus,” Phoenix retorted, shoving the Dark-type away with a pouty huff, ”We already discussed about jinxing these things, didn’t we? Please don’t even think about trying to tempt fate again, we’ve already had enough of that today.” She would certainly hope that’s not what the concierge had actually done, otherwise she just might have to lodge a complaint with upper management before going to bed tonight. The Zoroark only laughed, holding up his hands in a placating manner.”Awww, I was just kidding, Phee-bee~ Besides, what’s…”
”Don’t even think about finishing that sentence unless you wanna sleep outside tonight,” she cut him off, giving him a sharp side-eye in spite of the red creeping up her cheeks. That got Klaus to clam up as he merely smiled and left it at that, figuring he’d spare them anymore teasing for the night as the elevator finally opened up on their second floor destination. To likely everyone’s relief upon reaching their room, 232 actually did have the two beds as requested. The smell of freshly cleaned linens hit them as soon as the door was opened, revealing the tidy little room with a pair of beds about five feet apart, a small desk with a standard chair, a recliner chair off in the corner, and a TV hanging on the wall adjacent from the beds above a large dresser.”Dibs on the chair~”Klaus declared with a grin even though he knew no one would try to contest him on that,”If either of you ladies won’t mind tossing me one of your extra pillows so I can borrow it for the night, it’d be much appreciated.”With a nod and a smile as Klaus walked over to the recliner to get his own ‘bed’ prepped, Phoenix looked between the pair of beds before turning her gaze over towards her dark-haired companion. ”I’ll take the right bed if you’re fine with the left,” she suggested, figuring that Kraven wouldn’t really mind either way. A bed was a bed, after all, and right now they looked comfy enough for the redhead to just flop right on top of the sheets and pillows and fall asleep right there.】☆ ☆

Truthfully, Kraven's knowledge of the foreign region wasn't much greater than her companion's, and given the reclusive reputation it'd built up it was a wonder she knew much at all. What she did know piqued her interest however, making it a simple matter for the redhead to convince her on the prospect of paying Galar a visit. "Let's add it to the list then," she started. "I'm interested to see if there's any interesting in the way of pokemon out there too. At this rate we're gonna be going 'round the whole world, huh?"
Once they'd finally left the Pokemon Center it was fairly quiet, as the conversation died down and made room for Phee's apologies and musings. "There's always gonna be more," Kraven noted, her gaze drifting around each corner and alley like Klaus, though her eyes likely couldn't see as well as his in the darkened streets. "People like to say the more you learn, the less you know, but that's not really a bad thing. It just means you've still got things to explore!" She turned to her friend, winking a little with a grin on her cheeks. "It's what we're out here for in the first place. Discover more, meet new people, and get a good taste for the world. No shame in being oblivious to the things you're learning about."
They weren't out on the cold streets for very long, Phee bringing them all right to the hotel she'd had in mind. Kraven looked up at the signs and any surrounding decorations for the entrance before they moved inside, lifting her fingers at Klaus as he got the door. She let out a small chuckle as the man at the counter offered them a couple's room off the bat, but said nothing--Better not to comment and cause any mix-ups after all that's happened. She just stayed quiet and let Phee handle getting them a room, thanking the concierge before they made their way off to the elevator.
Of course, the moment those doors closed and they were all alone again, Klaus chirped up right quick. "I'd hope he didn't, considering he charged us for a two-bed," Kraven laughed, enjoying how quickly the Zoroark got shot down from his tempting of fate, not even getting to finish before he was silenced completely. "Well, if it comes to that we'll do what we need. I don't mind sharing the bed again, but it doesn't sound like they were so pressed for rooms like before." With a soft "ding" the rising box came to a sudden stop, before the twin doors slid apart.
Fortunately as luck would have it, Klaus' prediction was off the mark, leaving the two girls with a choice of mattresses. Klaus was quick to lay claim to the chair, but Phoenix soon followed with the bedding distribution. "Sounds good to me. I'm just glad to finally put this day behind me." She pulled the redhead in a little tighter for one last, quick hug before she finally broke away, unburdening her companion and setting Gungnir onto her designated bed. Then she grabbed one of the pillows at the end and threw it the Zoroark's way, before finally spreading out across the sheets.
"...I think one of you is gonna have to get the lights, not sure I can get up again after this." Joking as she might've been, sinking into the mattress was a far greater relief than she could've realized after all that had happened. It'd been a long time since she'd ever felt quite so... heavy, fighting the urge to just black out as the strength evaporates from her legs. It was almost a struggle to shift around and pull the blankets up, but hardly something her starter had any issues in slipping beneath. "Let's... hope tomorrow isn't so straining."

☆ ☆【It hardly took much convincing to rope Kraven into the idea of possibly paying a visit to Galar during their cross-regional road trip, much to Phoenix’s delight even though she tried not to let her excitement show too much on her face. Another addition to the seemingly ever-increasing list of places they wanted to visit whenever they wanted to take a detour from Unova for a bit. She definitely agreed with her friend’s interest in seeing what sort of Pokemon lived out there too, not being very familiar at all with any of the species native to the Galar region. She also had to wonder what their customs were like out there, what their major cities looked like… It was practically uncharted territory for both trainers, all the better for them to go there for the sake of seeing what awaited for them to discover as far as the redhead was concerned. She chuckled softly, at this rate they might as well make it an around the world trip since there was hardly any shortage of places to explore out there in the great blue yonder. Not that Phoenix wanted to just drag her friend around to every single region in the world if it could be helped, but if Kraven really didn’t mind and since they could go wherever they wanted now it wouldn’t be unreasonable either.
With that discussion finished in lieu of them stepping back out onto the quiet streets of Castelia at night, the pair exchanged apologies, reassurances, and light banter as they headed for comfortable lodgings. Phoenix nodded as Kraven said there would always be more things for them to discover out there, and that while it was often said you knew less as you learned more it only meant there were still things to explore. A soft laugh escaped her at her friend’s suggestion that that was what they were out here for to start with, to discover more, meet all kinds of new people on the way, and really get a feel for what all the world had to offer, and there was no shame in being oblivious to things she was still learning about. ”Yeah, for sure. There’s definitely a whole world of possibilities to explore out there, it’s just a matter of finding the time and means of being able to experience as much as we can while we’re still alive and kicking,” she chipped in her agreement, reflecting the bright grin on Kraven’s face with her own warm smile, ”And we do happen to have both.” While Klaus was mostly focused on watching those alleyways and dark corners for any potential dangers, he couldn’t help but smile as he listened to the pair. It made his heart happy to see his trainer so relaxed and comfortable around the other, it was as if they’d practically been destined to become good friends.
To his relief it hardly took long for them to reach the hotel Phoenix had mentioned, the Zoroark glad to hold the door open for the pair and nodding with a smile to his trainer’s quiet thanks and Kraven’s grateful gesture. It was easy enough for them to pay the kindly looking concierge for a room and get their key, though he initially offered the two a couple’s suite upon seeing them in each other’s arms on the assumption that they were a young couple. Klaus was tempted to speak up as he smirked, but held his tongue in favor of letting his trainer handle it as she requested a regular two-bed room for them. Their overnight stay paid for and with key in hand, they huddled into the elevator to head up to their floor. Much to Phoenix’s mild annoyance the Zoroark couldn’t leave it well enough alone as he began making teasing remarks, though she was quick to shut him down before he could try to provoke the hand of fate any further. Still, she certainly hoped that they actually hadn’t paid for a couple’s suite for the price of a two-bed, that would be straight thievery and not a very legal trick for a hotel concierge to pull. She glanced over towards Kraven as the dark-haired girl laughed, assuring that if it did come down to that they’d just do what they had to and she didn’t mind sharing the bed again. ”S-Sure, if you’re really alright with that,” she agreed, feeling her cheeks starting to burn at the memory of the initial awkwardness the first time they’d had to do that. Granted, a big part of that was that they hadn’t expected to be sharing a bed together at the time, and maybe any other time they might have to from now on wouldn’t be so weird since they were friends… ”Well, considering that a lot of tourists had been coming back from the Tanabata previously, we likely should’ve expected that most rooms were booked up and there were limited options available. But if we ever do have to share a bed between us again at any point, I suppose I won’t mind.” Couldn’t be any worse than the first time, right?
To Phoenix’s relief, a pair of beds greeted the group as they finally reached and entered the clean and neatly furnished room. Klaus, of course, wasted no time staking his claim on the recliner chair while the two trainers divvied up the beds between them. As she figured, Kraven had no objections to her choice, more than happy to finally get some much deserved rest and put the day behind her. ”Yeah, same,” the redhead agreed wholeheartedly, smiling as she gladly returned the quick little hug her companion gave before they released each other. Placing her bag down on the floor next to her chosen bed, Phoenix quickly assessed any damage that might’ve been inflicted by Jetta’s claws when the Aerodactyl had tried to air-tackle her. Aside from a few notable scratch marks in the fabric of the top part that’d been opened in the scuffle, it didn’t seem too bad… Klaus pulled the lever on the recliner to lean it back and pull up the foot-rest so it was a bit more of a proper ‘bed’, turning in time as Kraven tossed him a pillow per his request and caught it easily with a grin.”Much appreciated, madame~”he said gratefully with a wink, tucking it against the headrest so he had something more comfortable to rest his head on.
Grabbing her nighttime supplies, Phoenix turned to head for the bathroom and chuckled at seeing Kraven already spread out in bed on her side, saying one of them would have to turn out the lights since she probably wouldn’t be able to get up again now. ”I can’t blame you there. After everything that’s happened today, some good rest is definitely well deserved,” she commented, nodding in agreement, ”Yeah, hopefully.” While her friend made herself comfortable, the redhead disappeared into the bathroom for a few minutes to wash her face, brush her teeth, and change into some lighter clothes to sleep in. As she stepped back out, Klaus was already climbing into the recliner chair, pulling his red mane around himself like a makeshift blanket as he rested his head against the pillow.”Have a nice night Phee-bee, Kraven, see you two in the morning~”he said with a grin, leaning himself back in the chair and closing his eyes. ”Night Klaus,” Phoenix returned a soft smile to the Zoroark as he dozed off, then looked back towards her dark-haired friend, ”I, uh, don’t suppose you’ll be needing the bathroom at all, Kraven?” Her friend seemed pretty glued to the bed right now and was already under the covers alongside Gungnir, but the redhead figured she’d at least check first before cutting out the lights and climbing into bed herself.】☆ ☆

After ever everything that had happened, Kraven almost couldn't believe she was finally just settling into bed and drifting off to sleep. Just the hours she'd spent hopping around in the Distortion World felt too unreal, as if time had stretched and twisted to make her eventual emergence all the more confusing. Between that, the double trip through those first few towns, a gym battle, and falling to the ground again, it was a wonder she'd even kept herself up long enough to make it under a blanket.
Once she laid down, her legs refused to move even an inch, and her arms only barely proved more responsive. Heavy eyelids fought against her continued consciousness, all the thoughts in the back of her mind going silent one after the other just to demand she fall asleep. By the time Phee returned from the bathroom, she only had one eye still half-open, visibly struggling to hold even that as he nodded her head. "Yeah, I'll be fine. Assuming I don't sleep for a whole week I'll wait until morning." She moved her arm to wave it off, but couldn't quite will herself to pull it out from under the blanket. It'd been quite a long time since she ever felt this tired, by now all she wanted to do was move on to the next day.

☆ ☆【Arceus, what a tiring day today had been… Reuniting with Kraven after she had apparently unexpectedly disappeared into the Distortion World (and being used to cushion her fall in the process), backtracking through the first couple of cities to play catch up with her own gym challenge, earning a third badge on top of that and nearly being tackled to the ground, she was more than ready to call it in for the night and rest up. She quickly did her own nighttime rituals in the bathroom to ready herself for bed, pulling out the tube of antibiotic ointment and smearing a bit over the scraped and scratched parts of her hands. Hopefully those shouldn’t take too long to heal over. Still, if Phoenix herself was this tired she couldn’t even imagine how Kraven felt, since she’d wasted no time crawling right into bed as soon as they’d let go of each other.
Reemerging from the bathroom, the redhead figured that her exhausted friend would be fine with just staying firmly planted in bed. Kraven looked like she was just barely keeping herself awake as she still had one eye cracked half-open, insisting she’d be fine and that she’d just wait until morning to deal with whatever in the bathroom. Phoenix gave a soft laugh, flicking the lights off and leaving only the light of the moon and the red alarm clock on the nightstand between their beds to illuminate the room. ”Alright, if you’re sure,” she said with a shrug as she pulled back the covers and slipped into her own bed, ”Good night, Kraven.” Shifting herself to lay on her side where she felt most comfortable, Phoenix finally allowed her eyes to slip shut as she left the events of the day behind for a peaceful night’s rest.
Warm, golden sunrays spilled in through the window as morning brought the next day with it, the bustling noises of the busy city outside steadily filtering in as people milled about on their way to work or wherever they were heading for the day. Phoenix gave a soft groan as she slowly opened her eyes, immediately shielding them with her arm as she was nearly blinded by the bright light hitting her face. Wiping away the sleep she slowly sat up, still only half-awake but already feeling a fair bit better compared to yesterday. If anything, at least any traces of the headache and the soreness from being landed on had gone away for the most part. What time even was it? Softly yawning and stretching her arms out to wake herself up a bit more, Phoenix turned a bleary blue eye towards the alarm clock on the nightstand and blinked a bit to read out the display. 7:43 AM, they should have enough time to get up, get ready, and head down to maybe grab a little snack from that continental breakfast deal before heading out to the bistro for actual breakfast. Though it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to get some snacks for the road too, and maybe a few bottles of water since they’ll be out in the desert for at least part of the day.
Glancing over towards her roommates she could see Klaus was still in the recliner softly snoring away, apparently having shifted at some point so now he was curled up on top of the pillow in the seat. Giggling under her breath, Phoenix peeled the covers off and lifted herself out of bed to grab a change of clothes out of her bag before ducking into the bathroom, making sure to keep her footfalls as quiet as possible so she didn’t disturb everyone else. Softly closing the door behind her, Phoenix spent only a few minutes changing and washing her face, not wanting to take too long in case Kraven might need it right away when she woke up. Silently slipping back out once she was dressed and ready, she carefully tip-toed her way back over to put her bed back together and retrieve her journal from her bag before seating herself at the foot of it. It’d been a while since she’d updated it, and she should make a personal note to keep for herself about all the places they’d talked about visiting yesterday as a reminder. Desert Resort and Relic Castle, Nimbasa, Icirrus, Sinnoh, Kalos, Galar… They had developed a pretty decently sized list so far from the looks of it with the possibility of adding more later down the line, though she wondered how much further Kraven wanted to go as far as the gym challenge here in Unova before they chose to maybe take a short break in favor going off on their trip. Should they consider making plans for some of the other gyms past Elesa’s so they had a solid road map for training up and preparing for each one? That could be something to discuss over breakfast once everyone else was awake…】☆ ☆

Kraven mustered up a "Good night," in return before she drifted off, settling into a nice, deep sleep.
Yet despite dropping like a rock that night, it was surprisingly easy to wake up the resting musician. She could hear the water running when Phoenix went into the bathroom, and the light filtering in through the window made practically covered her face. It took a few minutes, but she eventually stirred from her sleep, sitting up and scooting to the side of the bed by the time Phee returned. "Morning~" With a quiet yawn she straightened her back and stretched her arms, bones popping softly in succession as she awoke. There were still a few creases and joints that didn't appreciate the motions, but otherwise a good night's rest had restored her body.
After taking a minute or two to finish shaking off her drowsiness, Kraven dug into her own bag for a fresh set herself, leaving her headphones on the nightstand and her shoes by the bag. "I'm gonna take a quick shower before we head out, lemme know if you need me to jump out for something," she noted, before disappearing behind the bathroom door herself. Some nice, hot water would probably be enough to knock out the last few complaints from her body.
Gungnir, meanwhile, poked his head out from under the sheets, visibly annoyed at his trainer's disappearance.

☆ ☆【It hardly took Phoenix long to quickly freshen herself up and change into a fresh set of clean clothes for the day, wanting to leave the bathroom open for Kraven when she woke up herself. Upon reentering the room and closing the door behind her, the redhead nearly jumped in surprise at seeing her friend already up and about. She wondered briefly if maybe she hadn’t been nearly as quiet as she’d thought and had unintentionally disturbed the other’s sleep, figuring the musician would’ve taken at least a few more minutes to wake up. Her worry was quickly dispelled, however, as she smiled warmly at her friend’s greeting. ”Good morning to you too~” she returned easily, ”Apologies if I woke you, I figured you might need at least five more minutes.” While her friend stretched herself out and shook off any lingering drowsiness, Phoenix quietly padded over to her bag to retrieve her notebook and pencil to fill in some notes. Glancing sidelong towards the other, she noted with a small smile that it seemed Kraven’s condition had improved quite a bit compared to yesterday. The soreness might need a bit longer to completely go away, but otherwise she was glad to see her companion was doing much better.
Hearing shuffling as the other grabbed a change of clothes for herself after she finished penning down the last of her notes, Phoenix glanced up and nodded as Kraven said she was grabbing a shower and to let her know if she was needed for anything. ”Of course,” she said, chuckling under her breath, ”I’ll definitely yell for you if any bad guys try to bust our door down.” Her eyes followed after her friend until she disappeared into the bathroom, turning her attention away once the door shut and tucking her journal back into her bag. Movement from the other bed across the way drew Phoenix’s attention as Gungnir peeked his head out from his spot under the sheets, a look of annoyance on his face upon seeing his trainer wasn’t there. ”Morning Gungnir,” she greeted with a gentle smile, pushing herself off her bed and moving over to seat herself on her friend’s bed next to the otter. ”Kraven shouldn’t be too long getting back, just a few minutes, alright?” she reassured, reaching over to give the Oshawott a pat on the head and a couple light scritches behind his little ears.
While Klaus seemed to still be asleep, the sound of running water when Phoenix had gone to the bathroom had woken him up as well. The Zoroark kept his eyes closed as his ears perked ever so slightly, listening to the pair of trainers exchanging ‘good mornings’ and hearing Kraven close the bathroom door behind her. The moment the sound of the shower running could be heard, he cracked an eye open to see his trainer sitting down on the other bed next to Gungnir, petting and assuring him his trainer would only be away for a bit. Her back was turned to him, giving him the perfect opportunity as a devious grin crossed his muzzle. Being as quiet as he could and using the background noise to his advantage, Klaus carefully slunk his way out of the chair and crept across the carpeted floor to sneak up behind the redhead. Pulling himself to his feet across from where Phoenix sat, her back still to him, he reached out slowly and gave her a light poke in the side to announce himself.

She flinched and let out a noise that sounded like something in-between a surprised squeal and a laugh, free hand immediately moving to protect the ticklish spot as she glowered over her shoulder at the mischievous Zoroark, ”Not funny, Klaus.” The Dark-type snickered behind his hand before pulling it away, playfully sticking his tongue out in retaliation.”Au contraire, Phee-bee, seemed like it got a good laugh out of you to me,"he teased, moving around the bed to seat himself beside her and draping an arm around her shoulders. ”Only because you cheated,” she retorted, elbowing him in a mix of mild annoyance and sibling-like playfulness.
”You say that like there were even any rules to begin with,”Klaus casually shot back with a snort, leaning in to rest his head against Phoenix’s shoulder with a lighthearted laugh,”You know how much you love me, though~”The annoyance on the redhead’s face slowly evaporated as she sighed, her lips quirking into a small smile as she patted the Dark-type’s arm. ”…I hate how right you are about that sometimes,” the redhead relented, Klaus simply grinning like a fool as he pulled her into a half-hug for a moment before letting her go.”And a good morning to you too, lazybones~”he greeted as his eyes landed on Gungnir, flashing the Oshawott a wink and a warm smile.】☆ ☆
