"Goodbye," the Reaper responded as the Salamander melted away and slipped from his grip into her own private firestorm. Within a moment the whirlwind had subsided and Joshua had been flung from its confines of the circle; his hand and feet skidding across the air itself like it was a solid surface, leaving streaks of crackling energy in his wake as he skidded to a full stop in dead air. Blood dripped from his chin and his hands were covered in burns from the Salamander's searing skin. The creature had abandoned the fight to make an attack against his weapon. Yet, he still managed to laugh. "Check." Sun's strike went exactly as she had planned; the flames converged upon their target, they swelled, they struck - but they never touched the sword. Like a wave breaking on the shore the wash of flame was intercepted by a translucent wall that scattered them. For every inch the fire fought for to break through this barrier another three layers seemed to form beneath it until the sword itself was encased completely in a solid shell that prevented the Salamander from laying so much as a breath upon the weapon. Above, in the sky, the Reaper stretched held his hands out to his sides with his fingers spread. Below, within the circle, the protective barrier branched out to the sides in sheets that sprouted barbs and spikes from the surface. A barrier. And not just an instantaneous one. It was powerful, precise, and controlled. But where had it come from? Sunstrike The turf exploded upwards as she heaved him along the ground, if the grip around her shoulders was maintained she'd push and dig til she built up speed. themightyjello It was almost like a repeat of the Salamander's explosion, only there was no smoke or fire, just dust and stone as the ground split open and blasted the creature with a spray of debris. themightyjello His hand snapped down sharply and the roadside to his left burst up into a cloud of dust as another heavy blast of air tore up the topsoil and sandblasted another rut into the ground. themightyjello Another blade of air cut into the road surface; further away from where the others had been, and Joshua's fall was slowed slightly as he dropped into the ripping torrents of wind. themightyjello "Dance for me... Gale." And then there was no more sky. No more earth. Nothing to know up from down. A whirlwind burst to life, completely enveloping them and sucking the both of them up into the air without a moment's hesitation. It tore up the earth as it spun, sucking stones, dust, ash, and brush in with them to a tumbling, spinning world with no sense of of direction other than which way the air was spinning. The eye of the storm was forty or fifty feet wide, and they would be circling around it inside a wall of wind that had that sword sitting serenely at the epicenter. From where Joshua stood, high above, everything was perfectly clear. The lines of power tracing a spell. The binding to control it. The connection between them to supply it with power. And the Salamander had already set one foot in the grave. The Reaper clapped his hands together, and the trap was sprung. Both sides of the jaws slammed closed on the Salamander. "Goodbye," he echoed the word to the one that had spoken it.

Hell.
Ash was all that became of the fire, scattering and dripping off the barrier like black rain, and a body dropped within the blackness, landing with a hard thud and throwing up a geyser of the stuff.
The trap was set, and sprung.
Blood, horrifically human after the molten splashes left by the salamander, streamed down, making red trails and pathways in the smeared black dust.
Sunstrike stayed standing, unable to move, having taken the hit for the being inside him. He'd shoved her, screaming, out of the way at the last moment, at the time she was most vulnerable. She wouldn't thank him for it.
Something began to rattle when he breathed, though that was the only indication that he was still alive.
Still waiting.

"..."
An upturned palm. A hand raised. Sunstrike was lifted on a pedestal to the Reaper's height.
"What's wrong?"

Sunstrike raised a thumb to his mouth and wiped away the blood that trickled there, before looking around with vacant eyes.
"S'nice view," A harsh breath. "I see why you like it here." He turned back to the reaper anger showing plainly in his eyes.
"There is nothing left. She doesn't need to be killed just because she's better at fighting my battles then I am. When I'm gone she can go home...I'd rather it not be in pieces." A cough drove him to his knee in pain, blood spattered the platform.
"You fight mortals, reaper. It is a one sided battle at best, let the consequences be as they stand." A grin started and looked manic.
"Or limp, whatever." He waved a hand towards his leg, still broken, but both bands suddenly intact.

The Reaper lowered to a knee, staring down into Sunstrike's eyes... and growled.
"Wake her up. Lazy b***h!"
Ripples of luminescent energy began to run up his arm as energy was concentrated upon it. There was more than enough left to keep going, he'd barely used anything at all. He had enough for another ten, no, twenty of these little tricks. And he knew the Salamander had more.
"Wake her a** up! Tell her to regenerate her wounds! Tell her to summon her flames! Wake the b***h up!"
His hand snapped for Sunstrike's neck; to drag the gimp back to his feet.
"Bring her back! Now!"

Dry laughter echoed out over the mountainside even around Joshua's fingers.
"Nothing means nothing, Josh-oooo-ah!" A strangled parady of what the reaper had first been introduced as. His hands clenched around the hand.
"You can beat me shitless if you want, she can not come back."
The other man probably would, he was pissed, but Sun was tired of these games and having to explain them.
"No magic, no juju, no science, whatever. I don't have it anymore. She does her job and sucks it dry then goes back."

His hand tightened the grip holding Sunstrike; displacing the support that had been beneath him and hanging him by his neck out in the middle of nowhere.
It seemed that she really was gone, then. Something that really just pissed him off. So much whining to get her to come out and then she goes back into hiding again so quickly. Disappointing.
"Then tell your man," the Reaper said gravely, "I'll be coming for him."
And with an open hand, he let Sunstrike drop.

Sunstrike's eyes widened.
"No, I won't let-" His hand reached out even as Joshua's let go. He slipped through the air, catching nothing.
He dropped to land against the hillside with an almighty crash, throwing dust up in a cloud. When it cleared he lay in the indention on his side, the bands around his leg glowing a pale green for just a moment before going still.
He was alive, barely, but consciousness was hard to keep hold of. Sun's hand bit into the dirt, and forced himself half upright. Joshua was going to leave. The other hand pushed him the rest of the way, blood began to pool from that side, something was seriously damaged...okay a lot of things were.
He'd be too late, Gods I'm too old for this s**t. Sun pulled his legs under himself and stood up slowly, half conscious.

Like a geyser, the sword lodged in the center of the spell circle shot upwards just like Sunstrike had; on a pedestal of solidified energy. At the same time the Reaper dropped; the support that had accumulated underneath him dissipating. The two passed midway, and he casually snatched the weapon from the air before another barrier beneath him broke his fall and lowered him leisurely the rest of the way like an elevator.
"Shut up and bleed!" he angrily spat back at Sunstrike.
What a b***h, that woman was... leaving him hanging halfway through.

Rocks...branches, clouds the vicious tug of gravity...and then white. Someone had painted Sun's world a blank.
White like a sheet wrapped over ones eyes. And yet cold like a blanket of snow gently laying across a landscape. There was something so overwhelmingly familiar about it all. For a moment, he was stuck in a video of events it seemed had already played out. It was like a memory that simply was not his but that he was able to feel and hear.
His hand would crunch through the chilly stuff painting the ground. This was snow. And no sooner than when that realization struck him, did the sound of footsteps crunching through the pure powder reach his ears.
And then a voice. So familiar, and yet so distant.
Hello Dazho...
The Doctors voice came clear as the snow sifted away revealing the man in his stained labcoat, his red tell-tale red hair pointing out in one direction. He was a lone figure in the blanket of snow. About 3ft from Dathos.
If your seeing zhis, zhen I am gone. Before I vent away I asked Brian to leave zhis message for you, in your mind. Before you come to zee us.
Two warm arms would reach around him, pale pure white skin embraced him from behind, as a soft warm face pressed against the side of his. He would be able to see the red hairs just out of his peripheral vision.
And you know we could never leave without saying bye!
After a tight squeeze and a little giggle Mary would stand up, and run over next to her father. She hadnt a scratch on her.
Dazho...vhen I asked you about your family, vhat you described vas not family at all. Henry vas no fazher...he robbed you of vhat every child needs most...
Another warm embrace this time from beside him, two very small arms, belonging to a very small boy in suspenders.
...Love...
He said, before running off grabbing onto his fathers leg.
Before you die here. Dazho. Before you let go...I vanted you to know, zhat you have a family. Ve vant to see you live.
A massive figure rose from the snow beside the Doctor, shaking off the flakes of white as Marcel had something of a late rise from his nap, and smiled...as only a giant lipless monster could, at Datho below.
An ve love you very much...
The Doctor extended his right hand to the fallen Sunstrike in the snow, leaning a bit over, offering to help Sun up off the ground so that he can walk again.
...son.
The white faded. Gravity overtook him, the rocks came back into view in almost the exact same place they were when they fell. And fall was precisely what he was still doing.

He wanted to join them, hell he was more then tempted to just pack it up and go, escape. But he'd been interupted, there were other things he had to do first.
His heart was the better for the vision, however. Sunstrike had somewhere to be, and death just wasn't that scary when you saw who was waiting on the other side.
Sun smeared blood on his temple and tipped an imaginary hat at Joshua before turning and making his slow way back up the mountain. As it stood he was in barely enough shape to try and accomplish that, let alone hunt down Tijae.
"Don't feel so bad, Joshua, find me a power source, and you can have all the angry sex you want next time."

Aiysin sighed and with a flick of her wrist, the ornate artifact that guised itself as a bracelet, slipped back under her sleeve, closed away from the world in it's cloth confines.
She had moved along the cliff side unseen, keeping up with the heated battle, making sure she had a clear view of it all.
The reaper, exited and the rolling fog parted to reveal the platinum haired woman staring down at Sun with a scrutinizing eye, arms crossed under her breasts as she eyed the man with no small hint of annoyance.
"Deepwater... you're in deep water."
She hoped the pointedly bad pun would at least reward her with a groan from the hardly conscious man. Circles were meant to keep things in, but also to keep things out. Luckily, Aiysin had planted her own circle on Sun long before Joshua had caught up with him.
"What do you have to say for yourself hmmm?"

Sun waved his hands in irritation. It hurt, in fact, everything hurt, and while he couldn't exactly see Aiysin through the darkness clouding his eyes, he could hear her loud and clear.
"That's not...what I was expecting." He coughed, rubbing blood and ash off his lips. "I must be pretty popular!" Sun was surprisingly cheerful for having most of the pulp beaten out of him, standing there naked as the day he was made.
"s**t happens."

"Tch."
The woman clucked her tongue, as her eyes unfocused. Sunstrike would feel a jolt of energy from his wrist. Where the bracelet Aiysin had placed on his person used to be. Before he transformed.
"You're somewhat of a magickal leech... or so I was told."
She spoke blindly now, for her eyes had ceased to see, engaging her second sight instead of her physical sense. "Be glad that I heeded that tid-bit when preparing for this mission."
Aiysin had reverted back to her icy manner, all business and no warmth. She was going to be reprimanded for what had happened. Her. Not Sunstrike. Not that the gouges upon his ruined body were not punishment enough... but they were the consequence of his own carelessness. Aiysin had failed in her charge, to keep him from harm and for that she would pay.
Wisps of mist twined around the Salamander's wrist and the silver beads revealed themselves about his wrist, in tact. A bracelet. A circle.
A shock wave of wind blasted outwards, as a circle of air that had formed about the enchanted piece, spread outwards growing in size 'til it swirled just slightly smaller, within the confines of the Reaper's circle.
A circle of protection.
Amidst the swirling winds, silver threads reached upwards to claim Sun. Building the gateway over his fallen form.
A cool caress, and the injured redhead would find himself laying on cool wood, the sound of running water running beneath him and the hazy outline of a strange cherry tree through his bloodied sight. A huge weight, lifted from his person as she gated him out of the clutches of the deadly binding.
Aiysin opened a second gate on her side of the barrier and joined her charge on bridge, stumbling only a little as both doorways closed behind her.
