Hal caught him, as usual, but Momo didn't mind. his mind had been going down a trail of dark thoughts and he was happy for the company. "can't seem to stay still," he said with a shrug. his shoulder was doing a lot better now. it still felt like it was going to give now and then, but he was able to function fairly normally now. "thanks," he took the tay and found a spot to sit down to eat, "better, it doesn't hurt anymore. just feels-tight." he took a bite and swallowed before speaking again, "these walks are helping, though. i don't like being cooped up all day." he hadn't told Hal, but he was having nightmares of what had happened. he'd wake, cold and shaky and had to leave or he'd go insane. he couldn't bare being inside and had to go out into the open to calm down. "i was thinking we could go here soon. i'm well enough for travel now, and we don't want to overstay our welcome."

"At least walk around inside instead of outside, this way if you collapse there's a higher chance of someone finding you." He followed him and sat down, shrugging. "We've been here for a month now, I doubt we've overstayed it at all. But we will need to tell Malcom we're leaving. We can't up and leave like we normally do."

Momo smiled a little, "i wouldn't do that to him, one set of parents doing it was bad enough." he ate a bit more, but wasn't very hungry, so he didn't finish what had been brought. he felt bad, but it wasn't food that would be wasted if he didn't eat it right now. he could save the rest for later. "we'll take to Tom and tell him we plan to go in a day or two and spend tomorrow with Malcom. sound good?" he didn't want to say goodbye and had been avoiding people, afraid of making friends that he'd just have to leave. the fact they had all just assumed it was because he was skittish after his assault made it that much easier. "Mama's not going to be happy." in the last month, she had been the only person he'd gotten close to and he knew leaving her was going to be as hard as leaving Malcom.

"That is true. And you are much nicer than anyone." he agreed, sitting there some more, taking a large breath and exhaling. "We must change my filter before we leave. It's dire, the radiation levels are rising due to my sudden inhaling and exhaling. It's a program I can no longer turn off, though i don't seem to be breathing out oxygen, that is a program I still control and can turn on and off at will." The man chuckled, "Malcom's getting really good at that kickball game and he's a great goal keep." At the mention of Mama the android shrugged. "I haven't gotten close enough to her to have the same emotional pain as you, but she will be displeased with us leaving."

Momo frowned, they had just changed his filter before the attack. if it was going to become a monthly thing-he didn't know how they would keep up. "didn't you say that you could wash your old filter? i'm sure there is somewhere here safe enough to do that. if not-we," he swallowed, "we can go into the city and look through the different buildings to try and find another one that will fit." he nodded a little at Hal's statement about Mama. he hadn't been close to her, not any more than he was to anyone else, but at least he understood that it would be hard. "we should head back inside, if your filter is that bad. it's strange you have to breathe now, part of your old programing?" he himself didn't mind. Hal had been sleeping next to him every night and he's noticed the added inhale and exhale to the normal heartbeat and it had soothed him.

"Yes, I can. Your father made it possible for my previous filter to be rinsed off. However, I was not aware breathing would make it fill so quickly." If this was just him breathing, how infested was Momo with radiation? He'd been born into it. How much of it was in his muscles, his nervous system, his DNA? That was a horrifying thought, but, if he was functioning fine, perhaps the radiation wasn't all that bad? "I'm assuming it is. Breathing along with my heartbeat programs are old programs and both now running automatically, along with sleep. I'm almost human like you." he chuckled, helping his friend up. "But you're right. I shouldn't be outside. Now let's get you in."

Momo kept Hal's hand, even after he was standing, and walked with him back to their little apartment. he knew he was being stupid. they had found the best thing they were ever going to find and here he was, itching to just walk away from it all. it wasn't logical, which meant Hal didn't understand. he'd obey, but that didn't mean that he agreed with their leaving. Momo was sure that if he had the choice, Hal would lock him up here and never let him out again. they got to their building and Momo saw some women standing in the shade of the entrance, talking. he stepped a little behind Hal and kept his head down as they walked inside, nodding a little at their greetings. Maybe that was why he wanted to leave. there were just too many people, and they all seemed to think that since he was here they needed to talk to him. he didn't like that much attention being drawn to himself, it made him get nervous. they were finally in their room and he let go of Hal's hand so he could go and sit on the bed. "could we wash your filter here? or would we need to find somewhere else?"

"Good morning ladies." the android greeted as they walked past the gaggle of geese and into the shelter of the building. A few steps and the dor was closed, a few moer and they were in their room. "Yes, as long as there is water for me to wash it with, we can wash it anywhere." he explained, removing the layers of clothing, gash in his chassis more prominent without the jackets covering it. But here at the compound there was no metal to replace his, and doing some metalwork was dangerous because Hal's internal functions were incredibly temperature sensitive. So, it was left alone.

Momo looked at the gash, he hadn't asked up until now. he'd known Hal had gotten that because of him. maybe that is why his filter was filling up so quickly. "sorry," he whispered as he stood, his fingers reaching out to touch it, but stopping just short. he closed his hand into a fist and pulled away, "sorry. let's get that filter cleaned." he gave the command for Hal's chest to open and got to work, "where is your original one?"

"Oh, no need to apologize." Hal touched the gash, "It wasn't your fault. I was protecting you and allowed myself to get injured in the process. I had to get you from the fire." And stood there as his chest opened, taking a slow breath as he felt the mechanics work. "Original one..." he thought, eyes widening in temporary fright, "Oh. Pocket." He said, reaching the proper memory and digging in, pulling out the folded material and slowly unfolding it. "Your father truly was a genius." he murmured, offering the wafer-thin filter. "Luckily this current one was compatible."

Momo nodded in agreement, though he knew he'd feel guilty over the gash every time he saw it, he pushed that aside and went to work. he washed the old filter, making sure to carefully rub it clean under a slow trickle, getting every little speck off. next he removed the one they had found and replaced it with the original. when he was sure everything was aligned, he closed Hal back up and looked at the filter in his hand, "what do we do with this, then?"

"I don't know. I'm sure Tom or Mama can find a use for it." and sat there waiting, knowing the radiation, even in this low radiation area, was entering his exposed chassis and it might have been affecting his mind. "I dream." he said slowly as Momo looked over the filter. "I dream I'm talking to a girl. She has my face."

Momo looked at Hal with surprise. he dreamed? was that even possible? "do you think they could be memories from before? like, when your programs to breathe and stuff were running for the first time? maybe there was another android, it would make sense that she would look like you. do you think it's possible?" he put the filter on the floor, not sure where else to put it since it was full of toxins anyways. "how do you feel in the dreams? are you happy, sad?"

It was hard to concentrate on dreams, they weren't solid like memories. They were wispy, like smoke. "Perhaps." he said, trying to recall the sensations he felt, "But, I felt," he tried to think, shaking his head back and forth as though that would help the words settle in to place, "I'm distraught, when I dream. And, and I'm younger." he looked at his hands. "I feel very, very distraight. I cannot explain it aside from that. I am immensely sad."

Momo walked over to Hal and held his hands, "hey-" he smiled a little, "that's normal. maybe they really are memories and something happened to her? i mean, if she was the person you talked to, then maybe you were friends. it would make sense for you to feel this sad if your friend passed away, even if you can't really remember the details." he gave Hal's hands a squeeze, "if you ever wake up from a bad dream and want to talk, i'm right here? god knows you've done it for me more times than i can count, the least i could do is return the favor."
