Shehk looked up at Jericho when he approached, giving him a sort of awkward look - she'd started offering up a smile when she saw the look on his face and it had immediately broken into a look of concern. Still, she leaned away from the wall.

"I was hoping you'd say that, because I need to talk to you too." Clearly not for the - well, actually for about the same reason. They probably just didn't know that his answer actually went to her question.

Slipping her arm around his once again, she motioned with her other hand, "Lead the way."

For once, Riley had no idea what Malodore was talking about. She watched Jericho leave, the sense of melancholy seeming into her own heart even as he departed with it, but remained holding Malodore for a moment more. What, exactly, did you think you would have to do that was so stupid? Her fingers lifted to brush against its beak affectionately, stealing just one more moment with it.

But of course, the door was now unlocked, and so she knew the moment would have to end far too soon.

Israfel had no idea what was going on because all he could think right now?

Barth took the jacket, holding it more than using it. "It's...chilly out," he said, with a yawn.

"I'm alright. Just needed to sit down for a bit," he said, eyelids heavy. "...Are you? Alright?"

Jericho furrowed his brow at Shehk as she said she needed to speak to him too. This was going to be quiet a long night now, he could feel it. Nodding slowly, he began to move away from the wall to go towards the doors, stepping out of the room and into the hall so that they could speak away from the rest of the students.

"I... may have put you in a lot of danger. I shouldn't have offered to feed you," he started while shifting his weight, "Though, at that time I didn't really realize what was going on.."

He wasn't quite cutting to the point just yet, mostly because he didn't want to deal with it so much. Warily, he looked down both ends of the hall, still feeling a little exposed out here.

Malodore shook its head and said nothing aloud, but something leaked out on the edges, a quick series of mental images edged with hopelessness-

They would seek no help, then - they were already this far gone, this far lost. The plague doctor's heart tightened painfully as it watched them. How could it possibly consider- they would take it as betrayal, it was certain.

Would they be right?

It would not watch them go mad a second time. Knowing that it was hopelessly outnumbered, knowing that every worry they put forth might be true, and yet seeing no other way forward, the plague doctor stepped back. It gave them an anguished look before flaring its wings, calling up the miasma against those it cherished most, hoping against hope to bring them down gently. To think for them, when their minds could not be trusted.

The knowledge that it was doing this for love was like a knife-

"It did not happen; so," it mumbled into her shoulder. "We will seek Invictus."

She gave the room one last glance before she stepped out into the hall with Jericho, frowning as he began to speak and fidget. It hit ever nerve of 'wrong' in her gut. Concern began to reign more prevalently in her features, reaching up to touch his face to make him look at her, the smallest traces of a frown across her lips.

"You're scaring me.......Jericho, please tell me what is going on." she pleaded. "Let me try to help if I can, danger or not I can't just stand by when something is obviously happening...."

Jericho rubbed his head and took in a deep breath. Hesitantly, rather than saying it exactly, he glanced around to make sure there was no one there. When it seemed to be clear, he pulled his sleeve up again. Just enough to uncover the first patch of grey within his scaled arm.

"..Just like the Christmas creatures.." he murmured.

"I...think so?" He wasn't entirely sure hen he looked this bad, bit at least Barth was here beside him and not with her.

He looked at his boilfriend (it was so nice to still be able to think that) and smiled. "Yeah. I'll be okay. I've dealt with worse." He looked back at the mirror and frowned. Okay. Maybe not so much.

It took her a minute to understand. Even seeing it, even knowing that standard of comparison...even understanding, to some degree, what it was. Shehk reached out to touch his arm, her fingers tracing over that grey within his arm, brows furrowing together.

She knew what this was, and she knew that it wasn't good either. In fact, it caused her stomach to sink. Confusion, slight traces of distress.

"Jack, this is......" just like the Christmas Creatures. He'd already said it himself, but...the grey reminded her of something else. Something like her mind was trying to block it out. After a moment, she looked to the piece of bone - grey bone...she wore on her wrist, shifting it to hold it side by side, looking at the colors - or rather lack of.

The pricolici didn't grow angry at realizing what it was Jericho was telling her - and why he was telling her, but rather, she moved, burying her face against his shoulder, crying.

The arms around Malodore slid away, and the rush of cold air between them would signify Riley's sudden step backwards. She stared at the being in front of her, cocking her head slightly as her mind took this new information in. The sight of Malodore taking Riley and Jericho down was now fresh in her mind, and she processed it. It took but a few seconds before the paranoia that had been edging into her thoughts all day, kicked in with a vengeance. Where previously it had only been Malodore keeping her sane, it was now the plague doctor who'd made her snap.

We're sorry. A severe voice said. We were under the impression we could trust you. This is why you were goading us into talking with Cricket, isn't it? The sting of betrayal coated her words with a thick heaviness.

Another step back, and Riley was at the door. Her mind was no longer processing the images that she'd received - they had come to their conclusion. And their flat, cold stare did not bode well for it.

You needn't worry about us anymore. Riley murmured, with a calm tone that smoothly hid the heartbreak she felt. We will be fine. On our own. You should return to the party.

Jericho stood there, shifting uncomfortably in the silence that followed, letting it sink in for Shehk. When she looked to her wrist, he did as well, noting the grey shard of bone next to him. It was the same color. He didn't know what to expect next, but even then the pricolici breaking down against him took him by surprise.

With a grimace, he pulled the sleeve down again, lest someone else spot it, and slowly placed them around the undead to try and calm her down.

"We're sorry... We're a fool. Please. Tell. No one. This musssn't get out," he said quietly, feeling paranoia sink back into him. He should have made her promise prior to showing her, and now that lack of foresight was worrying him.

It seemed he was lacking foresight a great deal tonight.

For a while, all she really did was cry, her hands clutching the back of his jacket. Fear - it had replaced every other thought she'd been having. It was almost a helpless feeling, that same helplessness as she had felt when she'd watched Red, tried to call out for the Werewolf-gone-she-didn't-even-know, felt so desperately that there was something she could do, but she couldn't see it.

She couldn't see it then....would she be able to see it in hindsight?

Pulling her face away from his shoulder, she wiped her eyes with one hand, frowning visibly.

"You're not a fool." she placed her hand against his cheek for a moment, then moved to brush them through his hair. "I won't let you think that you're a fool - and I will give you no reason to think it was wrong to trust me with this, Jericho." The pricolici sighed, leaning her head forward to press her forehead against his. "I won't tell anybody, I won't breathe a word of it..I promise."

"No. No, mia cara." Malodore's voice was firm, without a trace of anger; it inserted itself between Riley and the door, though it knew its slim frame was no barrier to her. "Listen to me. That is what I would have done had you not been yourself - I know you, Riley." The name sounded almost strange in its beak; it called her mia cara so often, so much more than using her actual name. "The Insanity has not caged you yet; I need not fight it in the guise of your flesh, as we all feared. I would never betray you, or Jericho."

Though its words were gentle, there was a core of steel in its tone. "I will always protect you, mia cara, amore mio. And care for you, even when you do not care for me." Its voice hitched a little on the not, but it kept its poise. It would not break before this.

It took Jericho a little while before he was able to meet Shehk's gaze. When she started talking, his eyes were averted. It really wasn't until she had leaned her forehead against his that he finally looked back to her.

"Alright. Thank you... Jusst... stay vigilant. We.. we fear we might have infected you. It sstarts with the whispers... the voices all around," he said quietly. He didn't know if it was possible to infect others with Insanity, but he didn't want to dismiss the chance. But if there was no cure for this sort of thing, he could have easily doomed Shehk earlier tonight.
