That's it. Alex was ********. She was ******** sideways and upways and downways and every which way in the world. NononononoIdon'twannadieIdon'twannadie!!! Stupid question of codenames. She really should have left when she had the chance.

Half of her mind was mentally panicking while the other took the Bishop's words and quickly processed them. "For such an intelligent woman you surely make idiotic mistakes," Alex stated. There was a slight tinge of fear in her voice but mostly (fake) confidence. "You've revealed to me that you've gone AWOL. You've also told me quite plainly that you want to kidnap the kids. I could take this information to anyone and survive. You'll be hunted and killed. I'm sure Beati would love to know that you've abandoned the Exterminant and where you were last spotted...all I have to do is send him a videotape. I'd never need to meet him in person to reveal your betrayal. Don't want to go that way? Then I'm sure the people of Glenville would absolutely adore the fact that Exterminant is in their midst and there's a particular redhead that wants to kidnap its children." There was no happiness in Alex's eyes and the twitchiness was barely showing through the borrowed jacket.

"As for killing you, why would I want to do that?" That is such a horribly big lie. "All I have to do is wait for someone to realize what you're doing here and what you're up to. They'll do it for me. You can kill me now and prevent me from leaving, but what then? You wouldn't be able to get out of the town with your life." She shrugged. "You are correct in stating I was supposed to die on my last mission. However, you should know (possibly the best out of anyone still alive) that I always find a way to survive. Always." She studied the Bishop's face. "You seem to forget that I was a drug addict. No one pays attention to drug users and let information slip. For example, I know that your mission was to kill a child by the name of Juno who lives here in Glenville. I'm sure the town would love to know how that mission turned out. Did you rip her apart using the machoke or did she get stomped on with your gigantic meganium? Or did the great Bishop Sarah Almund use the plebeian tactic of shooting her?" Hah! Finally got to use that word in a conversation. And maybe with this change of attitude, she'll back off. Maybe. Probably not.

Alex was rambling and she knew it. However, she also knew that this info was (more than likely) being recorded and she would blab everything she had on the woman before said woman killed her out in the forest. If she were to die, the information would live on and that would make things easier for Lexi, Gerard and Lorenzo. I will be helpful to my friends. I will!

"I think...we're in the same boat. Of course I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure we're in the same boat. They want to kill me and they want to kill you. If I'm supposed to be dead, they'll make sure I'm dead the moment they find out I'm alive. As for you, they'll make sure you die; they know you're still alive. I think we could help each other." A slight headache was growing behind her eyes. What the hell am I doing?! I hate this thrice-damned woman! What the hell am I doing? "If all of this conversation has evaded you, then know this: I am not with Exterminant. I've finally got my chance to start anew. I will protect those that I care for fiercely and if that means dying for them by revealing you, then I will do it." She hated the redhead but she loved her friends more. "And if you were to reveal this to the wrong sources, no one would believe you. After all, I am a highly dependent drug user and your drugs are potentially the 'best' drugs of all," she ended dryly.

"What were you planning on doing with the kids? Take them to Reverend Beati? He'd kill you were you stood. Who's to say that the mission with Juno wasn't to kill you off? I think you'd be better off joining me." If Sarah spouted off something about loyalty then she was more naive than Alex thought. Assassins killed anyone who stood in the way of their payer...including the payer's followers. And if she insists on leaving, eh. There's always blackmail.

She sincerely hoped her friends wouldn't kill her for this. If I'm going to protect you, then we need all the advantages we can get. An ex-Bishop would certainly be useful. She started to scratch her arms.

-----------

Juno was somewhat frazzled. There were guys fighting to protect her. Is this a male dominance issue thing? She chuckled and patted Willam's back. "Thanks for offering the ride." She turned to Ramsden with a sharp eye. "Seeing as you guys won't let little ol' me go off alone, I'd appreciate your help." It might have sounded a touch mean, but she said it in a joking manner. She smiled apologetically to Willam as she lightly squeezed his arm. She kinda wished he could go with her, but if the Commander wanted him for something she didn't have the clout to force Willam to go with her.

She then turned to Brighton with a bright smile. "Thank you sir. It's been an honor to meet you." She looked at Paul with a guarded face. "Don't get yourself killed out there. I'd hate to go out and get revenge on your behalf." She blushed by the end of it, gave him a quick hug, and then hightailed it out of there with Ramsden.

Once out, she and Ramsden settled on small talk till they reached the warehouse. "This place is still as huge as I last remember it." She followed Ramsden as he picked up his stuff (and happened to pick up some ammo for her own handgun) but stopped when Evie barked at something. She saw Evie stand in front of a case of elemental stones. "Did you want to evolve? You don't have to if you don't want to." Evie rubbed against her in affirmation. The furry little creature was willing to do anything to keep Juno safe; evolving would make it easier for her to defend the human. Juno was about to pick one up when she heard her name being called.

"Oh hey Unca." Apparently he knew that she was gonna be stopping by there before leaving so he'd hung out there till she came back. "Hey Unca Ben? You think I could get a water stone for Evie?"

Bishop Amlund listened to Alex chatter, surprised by how coherent she was. She knew it actually had probably not been her best idea to immediately lose her cool, and also that what she'd said didn't actually make sense, but her own mind had started to spin out of control; the total impact of losing her most potent weapon, Dionys, weighed in on her and she became afraid that Alex had indeed been sent to kill her. It was the only reason she wouldn't know those names - they must not have been told to her, so that she would stay focused, and it was well-known within the parts of the Exterminant allowed such knowledge that while drugged, if Alex Tourmaline was told to get a job done, the job got done. Sometimes the result was messy, but it was finished.

So she started signaling to Athena where she stood on the roof, making quick gestures with one hand while she kept her eyes mostly on Alex. The machoke squinted, turned to Lorenzo, pointed out Dr. Beatrice Oak's house a short distance across the city and well visible from this vantage point, and said, "Go. Shaffe." She then jumped down from the building, performed a few somersaults to slow her fall, and landed with an impact that left cracks in the pavement, kneeling and then standing several feet behind Alex.

By this time, though, Alex had begun talking about Juno, and Amlund opened her hand, palm-down, in a stopping motion, so she could listen. The tirade went on, and on, and on, and finally when Alex stopped talking, the way she held herself told Sarah that she hadn't been acting. She was scared as hell. The Bishop leaned back onto one hip, considering the assassin. "So you really are out of it?" She paused, not entirely certain of what to do. She spoke carefully, weighing each word. "Juno Galledeigh is alive, and well-protected, unless something else has happened to her. And if you weren't sent here to kill me, then Beati really doesn't know whether I'm alive or dead, although I'm sure he'll find out soon enough. I didn't hide those bodies very well." She lifted the bandage off her other eye, which was in perfectly good condition, revealing the bottom of the pink scar that marked her Exterminant, and scanned the night sky for the shape of an owl. Nothing yet. The bandage came back down. The way she was speaking, every time it seemed as though she was done and Alex could get a word in, she started again. It was a little frustrating, but typical of people in positions of authority.

"I think my part in this is over, then, actually. I only wanted to be sure the kids were safe, and I thought that meant killing you. Seems I was wrong. If Athena here was successful, they're on their way to Dr. Oak's old house, that way." She pointed for direction. "I'll keep an eye out and help you how I can, but like you said - I can't really act openly, on either side of this. Don't let the Oaks use them, don't let Beati use them, and don't let them die." One last time, she paused, looking directly in Alex's eyes and putting a hand on her shoulder. "You still just have Rex and Giddy?" It was a mark of respect that she had used their names. "You need more than that, girl. So I'll tell you, that there was an errant absol we had back at the Sanctuary that we lost track of right before the assault. Probably died in it, but if not, it should be headed this way. It will likely be of use."

She drew away, then, and looked back up at the night sky. "We'll be in touch, if we're alive." With a smirk, she drawled, "For the good of all souls, Miss Tourmaline." Athena walked past Alex without a word or a look and followed her master into the darkness of the city.

Alex blinked three times before she understood that Bish--oh right, Ex-Bishop Almund simply left. The fact that the redhead's machoke had been standing right behind her and could have smashed in Alex's head easily left her temporarily frozen. Once the ex-Bishop was for sure gone, she collapsed on the ground hugging herself. "Oh God. Oh God. Oh God..." Oh my God. I won. That was first. And now to go find the others. Oh crap. The others! "s**t! Guys!!! Don't go to the shack! Whatever you do, don't go to the shack!" Giddy should still be recording. If the machoke had been out wandering while she was talking to Sarah, then it was possible that it was looking for the kids while Alex was away. I'm such an idiot!

Giddy climbed down a tree and snuggled up to Alex. Immediately upon realizing that the sentret was on her shoulder, Alex grabbed the pokemon and stared straight into the camera. "I hope you caught all of what happened. Now listen. If anyone or anything tried talking to you, ignore them. Ignore them! Don't go to the shack!!!" She dropped Giddy and grabbed her hair. Okay. Okay. Calm down. It's okay. You're still alive. They're still okay. They're smart kids. We're gonna be okay. She could really use a hit right now. No! Bad thoughts. No drugs.

She got up rather shakily. "Okay Giddy. Time to go. We gotta go meet up with the others. I hope we can meet up fast." And we'll see if we can find the absol. Most people didn't like them because they were considered harbingers of doom, but she felt differently. It likely won't get treated well here. I hope I can find it first and prevent others from treating it badly. Any animal that could escape the Exterminant was not only incredibly smart but one that she could sympathize with.

Benjamin looked at Juno with a serious face. "These aren't easy to find. They're extremely expensive and the paperwork on handing them out is a b***h to write. Buuuut," he drawled out with a smile, "yes. You can have one. Consider it a belated birthday present. Oof!"

She hugged the older man tightly. "Uh June-June? You're kinda killing me here..." She just squeezed harder. "Oh thank you! You're the best!" She finally let go of him and grabbed the water stone. "Jeez, Juno. Your hugs could kill a man." The blond merely stuck out her tongue in retaliation. "Yeah, love you too."

She then looked at Evie. "Ready to do this?" Evie barked in excitement. Juno held out her palm with the stone in the middle. Evie put her paw on top. And then began the change.

Juno couldn't describe it. It was beautiful to see her pokemon transform. She could have years to try and describe what happened but the only thing she'd ever be able to say was that it was unforgettable. Evie traded her brown fur for blue scales and fluffy tail for that of a fish.

Once done, the previously small pokemon was now much bigger. There goes the picking her up whenever I wanted. "Ack!" Evie apparently forgot she was much bigger and pounced on the crouched human. Midnight blue eyes shone happily as if to show how thankful she was for the transformation. Juno sat up and hugged her vaporeon's neck. She looked back up at her uncle with a bright smile. "Thanks Unca Ben. Thank you so much."

Benjamin smiled and shrugged. "I can't go with you but I can make sure that you're well defended. And you," he turned to Ramsden, "better make sure she stays safe."

Lorenzo thought about what the Machoke had just done.

The Machoke had told him to come to the top of the building, which resulted in the aches and scratches he had in numerous places in his body, as well as the insult of superiority that Flora held over him by making it to the stairwell first.

And now. After making it all the way to the top. The Machoke told him to go somewhere and bolted. Something it could have done by dropping down to his level, grunting, pointing, and THEN running.

He was not a Pokemon person. At least, that's what Pokemon thought of him.

The teenager scratched the red fox's head as it lay over his shoulder.

"Another path to trudge, brat, let's get a move on. And you need to walk this time, or else you'll get fat like your cousin Herman's Snorlax did, remember her?

Flora smacked her lips, awakening from her slumber. She looked around, thought about what Lorenzo said, and promptly bit his ear. Lorenzo yelped, pinching her cheek.

"Wanna tell me what that was for?!"

The Vulpix motioned its head in Lexi's direction. A voice came out of the device she held.

"Guys!! Don't go to the shack! Whatever you do, don't go to the shack!"

The boy looked back at the building the Machoke had pointed to from the top of the building. From here, the lab looked a little shoddy, but a shack...? Lorenzo looked to his partner, shrugging.

"Probably meant like a Radioshack or something. I'm not fond of those, either..."

* * *

Some time later, they stood in front of the old lab. He cringed, a chill splitting his spine. Something about this building's vibes made the idea of walking in questionable. It was like something out of an end-of-the-world movie: Some of the windows were smashed open, the door had been ripped off the hinges, the paint peeled off the walls, and it seemed that no one seemed to care in the slightest. Lorenzo pulled at the collar of his shirt, a feeling of unbearable tension tickling his skin. This was definitely the kind of place that people didn't walk back out of without either missing limbs or a mental problem. But Flora jumped off Lorenzo, growling at the doorway as they approached.

"What's wrong, girl? Is Timmy stuck in the well?"

He laughed nervously, taking tentative steps into the building. The room was only lit by the light from outside, darkening to an opaque blackness as it went deeper into the building. Lorenzo gulped whatever it was that had come up in his throat and made his way in, whipping his head around every few steps to see if anything was going to jump out of nowhere and claw his face off. He liked his face.

"Hellooo? ... Um... Candy gram...?"

Lexi watched the machoke, finally catching what he was trying to say when he added his attempts at human words…and actually did quite well for a pokemon. Actually, she’d never heard of a machoke being able to speak human, so she was impressed. Drugs Alex no kill you Lexi was already sure Alex wasn’t going to kill them, so whatever the right translation of that was…either Alex would or wouldn’t kill the kids…was somewhat irrelevant. The next part was the interesting piece. Come, Safe? Lexi had to admit she was curious about the machoke until her ears caught something very useful out of Alex “Did you rip her apart using the machoke?…” The girl heard that and froze solid, paying a lot more attention to the fighting-type all of a sudden…there stood a good chance that this was not some random pokemon…She had been wondering who would send a pokemon to talk to them, and the strange woman definitely had made the list. Alex’s statement was practically confirmation. Lexi watched as the machoke pointed out the late Professor Oak’s house in the distance, calling it safe, but she took the directions with a grain of salt…that had been where the woman had wanted them to go already…

Then, the machoke decided it was time to leave and somersaulted off of the building, leaving Lexi to hear the end of the conversation…huh…So the woman only wanted to make sure Alex wasn’t going to kill us…I wonder what Alex thinks about that... She smirked slightly. She wasn’t convinced, and if she wasn’t convinced, she doubted paranoid Alex would be. As soon as the strange woman and her machoke were gone, Alex confirmed that guess as well by shouting at them not to go to the house. Saw that coming a mile away… Lexi started backtracking to get down to the ground as Alex continued to call at the TV screen. On the way down she realized she didn’t see someone she should have…s**t! Did he go!?! She groaned, and doubled her pace. If Alex was shouting that loud, Lexi figured there really wasn’t a reason to stay hidden anymore anyways, so in response to the panic that had crept into the woman’s voice, she called out “Too late...The new guy” his name dropped out of her head “split.” Then she stepped out from behind the building, hoping her showing up would tell Gerard not to go double-time to the shop when no one was there. Yeah, she was probably about a second from getting chewed out.

When Ramsden entered the warehouse, he looked around for the boxes he would be needing.
"Ah, ammo, good." He walked over to the crate and started grabbing clips, along with boxes of ammo. "Let's see, two, three, four clips; One, two, three, boxes of ammo should suffice. So, that's about, one-hundred and twenty bullets in the boxes and somewhere around one-hundred fifty total. And an M9," he said, reaching over to grab one from near the ammo. "That's good there, now shotgun." He strolled over to the crate of shells and grabbed a handful or three of boxes. "That'll add about forty-five shells to my current supply. That's... what, 53? Yeah, that's plenty. Ok... anything else? OH! Silencer. Silencer good. Where the hell do we keep those?" He looked around for anything that might be them, when he saw a few lying on a shelf to his left. "Oh. Well, them just laying out there in a case would be a pretty good idea as to where we keep them I guess." He walked over and started fitting them, seeing which one came off and on the best.

"Alright, I'll keep this one then... dear god I've got to stop talking to myself. People are going to think I'm... whoa what's that?" He wondered turning to a large light coming from his right. "Oh ******** that's an evolution I think..." he started off towards the source and stopped when he saw Juno and Ben around what he assumed was once Evie, now nearing her almost complete evolution. He watched in silence, seeing when she competed her evolution, as she tackled Juno to the ground. He laughed a little and then looked back up at Ben while he was still looking at his what-should-be-niece.
"I can't go with you but I can make sure that you're well defended. And you," he said, turning to face Ramsden, "better make sure she stays safe."

"Benjamin," he used the full name to try and make sure his emphasis on the sincerity of this message was conveyed, "You have my, Erin's, and Zips' word that I will protect her if it means the death of myself. When I signed up for the Navy, I signed up to protect with my life what is important. It is clear she is important, but more than that, she is another person, and you should know that I value all life, especially younger life, and I stick to my values and the vow I took that day that I joined. The Navy I once knew may be gone, but it's sailors and their values shouldn't ever have to permanently vanish. I swear on the Fleet itself, Juno will remain safe in my hands. You know me... somewhat. I wish I had spent a little more time with you, but it's to late for that now. Ben, don't worry, at all. She has me and that Willam guy... who needs to calm down a little I'd say but I'm not going to judge him until I know his situation. Maybe he's just had a bad day or whatever, but I digress. Don't worry about her. If it would make you feel better, we can keep radios on us that are connected to you, and Paul wanted one as well I think. I'll go get some and bring them back for you. And Juno," he said turning towards the girl, "I'm sorry about having to be so serious in there with Brighton and at the moment, but I like to keep myself around him in the highest bearing as possible, and now is just a serious-ish time. When I'm away or not doing something important though, trust me, I'm a lot more care free and just enjoyable in general. On the field though, if I get serious, it's for a reason. Please don't hesitate to obey anything I say if we're in some kind of danger, even if it's flee with Willam while I hold whatever off. I gave Ben my word you'd be safe, and I intend to keep that. But, as for now, seeing as we're not in danger, why don't we head back and see if Brighton is done with them. You can talk to Paul for a bit and see if he's coming with us, and if not, say good-bye for now. I need to tune my bike anyway, but when you're done, I should easily be ready." he said grabbing a tool box "I'll grab a few radios on the way out. I still have to find paintball grenades, although I doubt we have any, so why don't you head back with Ben and show off your new Vaporeon. We need to stay in contact with Paul so he doesn't have a hernia worrying about you and we should all be connected anyway, Willam, myself, and you even if we are all in the same area. You never know when we're going to split up for safety." He paused, then said to no one in particular, "Damn I've been talking a lot. I'm sure you're sick of me already. Well yes, anyway. I'm going to see what else I can find that could be useful in here. I'll meet you back with Brighton and the others." He said to the girl who was concentrating on her Vaporeon happily. "Well then, in a bit." He left her with Ben and began scrounging the warehouse for anything useful, from potions to RPGs.

I wish Brighton would let me take more stuff, but it is just three of us. Ah well, they'll need most of it more than us... but I doubt they'll be sad if I take just one or two flashbangs. He thought, eying the box he was passing longingly.

((No, I will not actually have him take a freakin' RPG XD))

Alex saw come out of her hiding place and didn't know how to feel about it. On the one hand, she was furious that they hadn't listened to her. Of course they wouldn't. She's just a junkie; a weakling unless given drugs. She wasn't much older than them. What would she know about taking care of people? All she did was spend time in her own little world. Or killing. And there was quite a bit of killing. I may not be much older than you, but I do know things! I know how to survive and that's what I wanted for you! "Vulpix boy left? Damn." These kids didn't make it easy to keep them safe. Then again, no one's safe.

"So was Gerard the only one to listen to me," she asked hopefully. Lexi's face shifted in a way that made Alex's shoulders slump. "I'll take that as a no. Either he's still hiding or he went after vuplix boy. Joy."

She paused her scratching to give Lexi a weak smile. I can't be too mad at them. They probably came to keep an eye on me. Help me I guess. It was the kindest thing that anyone had done for her in a while. It was for that reason and that alone that she didn't explode. "Okay. Well then. I hate listening to the damned woman, but it seems we're going to have to go to that shack building place." I wonder if we'll run into the absol on the way.

Oh. Crap.

She wants to "protect" them. She sends them to the building. She tells me an absol can be useful for protecting them. Could the absol be there? "The woman mentioned an absol. You don't think she might have the injured pokemon there to spring on us do you?" An injured animal is a vicious animal. That blade on its head could easily hurt us. Yes, ex-Bishop Almund would do something like that.

"I don't want it, but I wish I had a hit," she muttered. I forgot how stressful life was without drugs. She painfully smiled and said, "Let's go keep....Lorenzo, that's his name. Lorenzo and his vulpix from getting into too much trouble."

-------------

Juno wore a deadpanned expression at Ramsden. "You're as chatty as one of my younger sisters." Benjamin raised an eyebrow and was about to ask for clarification, but Juno rapidly explained. "I live in an orphanage. I'm the oldest of the bunch."

She carefully watched him as he looked for his stuff. She listened to what he said but was unconsciously putting him through the Gauntlet that was earning Juno's trust. Honestly, Paul had saved her from a cult and a dinosaur and she STILL had trouble trusting him. All Ramsden did was talk. We'll see if he can back up his talk. "Alright then. See ya."

She gave Benjamin one last hug and left.

"Alright Evie! Let's check out your new form. You've got really pretty blue scales." I'm gonna miss the fur. The passed by a tree when Evie sneezed. Unlike the time before where the sneeze was purple, this time there was a bubble. A fist size bubble. "Haha, first purple smoke and now this?"

Juno wanted to pop it but Evie whacked her hand away using her new elongated tail. "What was that for?" The bubble floated on till it hit the tree. Next thing Juno knew was that there was sawdust in the air. What the crap?! When said sawdust settled, there was a spherical shape perfectly carved into the tree's side. A fist size spherical bubble shape. It wasn't all the way through the tree, so Juno imagined it had to do with the speed that the bubble hit an object. "...thanks for slapping my hand away." I could have lost my hand just now! She was now extremely glad Evie was on her side.

Evie saw a furret pass by and formed another bubble aimed at the furret. Instead of blood, guts, and bones exploding everywhere, the furret was just thrown back and away from the trainer and pokemon. When it got up and ran away, Juno looked thoughtful. "So you can destroy material things and humans but not other pokemon? Ooookay then." Juno scratched beneath Evie's chin and caused the sapphire colored pokemon to purr. The difference in destruction doesn't matter, she has an amazing defense system with that bubble thing.

This time, Juno had a bounce to her step as she walked back to Brighton, Paul, and Willam. I wonder what other moves she has...

Lorenzo had now made his way deep into the darkness, the light from the doorway only a speck of light far behind him. He couldn't even see his hands, but used them to feel out in front of him as he closed his useless eyes. The air in the abandoned lab was cool, but his palms began to moisten with sweat, waiting to walk into something and have a Vulpix bark-laugh at him.

"Flora? Where are you, girl?"

She answered him with a sharp reminder in his denim leg.

"Ngh. There you are. Could you at least stay on my shoulder like beforraaAAAH!"

He was interrupted by a round object on the floor that stopped his step in mid-air, resulting in a banana-peel-trip that sent him flying onto his back. Flora, who had been standing behind behind him, sensed her master's stupidity and sidestepped Lorenzo's body as it spread itself. Lorenzo lay there for a moment, breathing heavily.

"...DANGIT, FLORA!"

The teenager rolled over, supporting himself on all fours as he searched blindly for whatever piece of gravel it was that he had tripped over, mumbling curses until his fingers closed around something. It was a sphere the size of peach, metal, from the texture. There were various scratches across the surface, but he recognized the familiar indent following a straight line around the sphere and meeting at some sort of multi-layered button, separating the ball in two halves. He couldn't see anything in the pitch black of the lab, but he knew that the two halves of the sphere had to be...

"Red and white. It's a little battered but... I think someone lost their Pokeball, Flor. You think anyone'll mind if we borrow it?"

Ramsden listened to what Juno had to say, and started searching a little before she left.
What is it with these people? First Willam is just a straight-up a*****e for absolutely no reason, then Juno decides to insult me because I talk more than the average person. So what if I talk a lot? Communication is important. People need to know what's going on. No communication is when people die... No no, shut up, no flashbacks. Just... maybe I'll grow on her after time. Anyway, yes. Radios radios... He thought a few more things after that. He for some reason always seemed to stay focused on the one thing that bugged him, but not for very long. It's all he could think about whenever someone said something that irritated him, but he was good at ignoring it when necessary.

Okay, quick mental inventory here.
Changes of clothing, a few writing materials, food, knife, field guide, 4 books of matches, flammable fuel, firecrackers, 40 cigarettes, NWUs, sewing kit, books, four M9 clips, 50 M9 shots, M9, silencer, M500 shotty, 35 shells, two flash bangs, one smoke grenade, four radios, and two flares. Good, that's a little much, but they all still have plenty left and it's not that far beyond ample. Brighton shouldn't care, he knows I don't waste things. Okay, seabag. All of you. I have my tool kit so, tune the bike and I'll be good to go.

Tool kit in his hand, he headed back to his bike. "Gonna need your help really quick Zips." He said as he let him out of his pokeball. "Hold these up for me would you?" He had Zips hold a number of small fasteners at the ready so Ramsden could grab some whenever he needed without looking for them all over the place or worrying about them rolling away. "Ok, wrench, meet bike. Bike, prepare to shut up." He started working on whatever he could to make sure the bike stayed as quiet as possible. He never liked the loud bikes that people used to have. The ones where you could tell where they were even at say, three miles away.

"There's no reason a bike needs to sound like a fighter jet." He used to say.

Alright. Let's give that a shot. He started up the bike, and much to his enjoyment, the bike purred with barely a sound. "YEAH! That's how I roll. Like a SEAL! Okay, this needs to be brought back. Good chance for a test drive anyway. Zips, if you would." Zips attached himself to a special fitting Ramsden had put in the bike a while back. Rather than use gas or some other kind of fuel like that for movement, he instead had Zips work with magnets and electricity to rotate the wheels of the bike. Not only was this practically unlimited distance, but his bike could outrun anything if Zips turned the wheels fast enough. He still used fuel to start it, but it was like running idle. Zips fired himself up, and the bike took off. Not that it used no gas at all, he still needed it to start the bike, but for the most part, it was all Zips. Quiet as hell! Ramsden thought to himself as they neared the warehouse. He walked inside and placed the toolbox down, making a clunk as the metal contacted with metal. Stretching his back and losing all former irritation, he walked out of the warehouse, feeling good to be alive again. Ok, let's head back to HQ and get everything finalized. He rode back to the building which housed Brighton, Paul, Willam, and now again, Juno and Ben. When he arrived, he parked his bike, returned Zips to his pokeball, and walked in.

"It's a good day to be alive eh commander? Couldn't find any paintball grenades, but I didn't expect to anyway. Well sir, good to be with you for this long. Hopefully I'll see you again." He said, offering his hand to Brighton. After he shook it, Ramsden turned to Juno, Paul, and Willam. "I'm fully ready to go there guys, so it's all on you when we leave. Paul, here's your radio. It's set to channel 13B. Juno, Willam, same." He said handing them one each. "Waiting on ya'll." he said in a casual tone, standing there, his arms folded.

Lexi couldn’t help smirking when Alex asked if Gerard had listened and gone on to the store. The change in her expression tipped Alex off. Of course he didn’t, he was the first one to not head that direction! “Hiding, last I saw.”

Lexi watched, frowning, as Alex cycled through a list of expressions, thinking the chewing out part of this was about to come, but then the woman put on a weak smile and the girl matched it. “Yeah… though the place isn’t really a shack, following the redhead’s suggestion is not my favorite idea either…”

Then something seemd to be bothering the woman significantly…Oh, the absol!…Lexi frowned, considering the possibilities. Absol, possibly injured, plus enclosed space very quickly added up to not good. She moved her hands to the straps of her backpack and shifted its weight around. “Well…I’m not sure, but we won’t have to guess that much…my computer’s still got battery. And so does your Giddy-cam.” With that she passed the controller for the latter back to its owner.

Lexi made a sad smirk when Alex half-wished for a hit. She probably couldn’t understand the desire as well as Alex, but, after all the tales of bliss and freedom her drug-using friends had told her, there had definitely been days she wanted to jump on the bandwagon. “Yeah, let’s get going…”

Paul did indeed nod. "The men are fairly recognizable," he informed Brighton. "Both wear black. The doctor has some sort of... hat. It might have a feather in it, but in all honesty, I wasn't paying enough attention to his clothing to notice... Anyway, he likes to dress fancy-like. Beatitude wears black, too, and is accompanied by an owl pokémon, which I also didn't get a very close look at. Probably a Noctowl. Broad-brimmed hat. Dresses like a priest would.

"I won't be needing much. Just maybe drop by my house on the way to pick up my ghillies. Can't go looking like this," Paul pointed out. His skin was reddened, he was still wearing pajamas, and the flak jacket he'd stolen from one of the Bishop's troops had a number of bullet holes and blood stains. On top of it all, his hairs were singed and a light coat of dust covered everything. He was not well geared for any sort of military assignment, and the fact he'd made it this far was mildly impressive, as far as he was concerned. Most of his time was spent defending his home, not wandering around the state.

"I really hope that McFadden doesn't make an idiot of himself again," Paul added. "He's... not really that competent. I was hoping for a, ah, numerically greater escort, but it'll cut it. And I sincerely hope Willam doesn't... make himself a sticking point. He likes to try," Paul muttered, neglecting his story of nearly being shot. He was committed now. He'd catch up with Juno when possible.

"Actually, there's something I'd like to 'borrow,'" Paul informed the commander. "I've used all the Claymores I collected as a sort of minefield, so I'll be requisitioning some of them. I suppose I'd best get going," he finished, making a vaguely salute-like gesture and making his exit.

He paused on his way out, taking the radio. "Thanks," he told Ramsden. Ramsden struck him as a good guy. The sort of guy Paul could work with, given the chance. He probably would be, in time. He nodded to Juno. "I'll catch up as soon as possible." He turned his back with no other words and mounted his bike, hoping that Juno wouldn't be another one of those people who just disappeared.

The trip, Paul figured, would take a few hours at most. He'd have to stop at home, check that that was all still standing, ghillie up, maybe collect some of his personal ordinance (depending on how much he was prepared to carry) and get to Woodmount via foot/teleportation. Zoidberg was not particularly fresh, even after a run through a pokécenter. Once within Woodmount’s effective zone of control he’d have his work cut out for him. A 7.62mm NATO shell wasn’t all that telling - anyone could be using a FAL around Woodmount - but he didn’t want to leave any trace of his presence lest it make his exit even harder. That meant leaving nothing he could avoid leaving, especially tracks and casings.

He might have to pick up a suppressed weapon, actually - the G3 didn’t support a suppressor. Either a longer rifle or a submachine gun. Carrying two rifles was a task, especially including ammunition for each, but it wasn’t a task Paul was unfamiliar with. He had been traveling bare-bones this whole time - he’d just be prepared for a bit of extra weight. He wanted it to be light, so an MP5SD2 would be a good choice. Not too big, and it’d be quiet enough to serve his purposes. Trickier to use it at range, but if he were to take a long shot, he’d just have to do it sans suppression. That was alright - at that distance he could clear out before enemies could show up. So that was the plan. Spend as little time there as possible, then catch back up with Juno, if possible. A good plan was always nice.

And there it was. The million dollar question. How did he proceed? He fought back the urge to scream at the old man to mind his own damn business, Thomas reminded himself that's why he had even approached the doctor in the first place.

"I... I had an incident with 'a pokemon when I was a tyke. I don't like ta discuss it if it's all the same to you. Le'ss just say I'm glad the 'lil guy doesn't spit fire alright?" expained darkly, and tapped the wrapped part of his face during the last part. The bandanna he wore was a yellow and blue monstrosity, with the feathers of some green bird in it. The bandanna had been chosen for it's size. The feathers because Rikes liked them. He'd worn it for most of his life now, and he made sure to clean it regularly, and had even sewed in a small soft patch of soft fabric over the eye area to prevent too much rubbing.

Thomas decided he'd been far more negative than necessary at that point though, and decided maybe a step forward would show his willingness to cooperate. He pressed the button on the front of the pokeball and let loose the small armadillo-like pokemon. As it appeared it yawned and stretched sleepily. It was clear Thomas had not let his fear detriment the sandshrew's health. Though a bit chubby from lack of exercise, nothing else seemed wrong with it. It didn't take long for the sandshrew to waddle over to the ninetails and begin sniffing the older pokemon curiously. It then chittered at the ninetails cheerfully, as if in greeting.

Thomas shrugged at the antics of his partner.
"He's friendly at least. I guess."

Gloria gave a small nod, and the faintest hope of a twitch at the corner of her mouth that may have been construed by some optimists as the slightest inkling of a half-smile. They'd probably be right, but it was unlikely anyone other than the sandshrew caught view of the event, and thus the answer would remain a mystery.

Ulysses listened, and nodded every so often. When the boy finished, his smile resurfaced. "I'm truly sorry you feel that way. Hopefully he can help you with that. Do you mind..?" He leaned forward in his chair and scooped up the sandshrew with both hands, bringing it to his lap.

It looked a little chubby, but sandshrews were naturally rather rotund so it was difficult to say surely. Nothing seemed to be unusual nor did it seem in any way lesser to any average sandshrew. He petted the ground-type rodent a few times before setting it on the floor.

"He seems in fine order. Now..." There was a pause to give young Mr. Rikes time to refocus on Dr. Shonevsky. "Have you ever had any pets, Thomas?"

Gerard, from his vantage point on the roof, was able to observe two pieces of very interesting happenings: the first, Alex's conversation with the strange and probably dangerous woman; the second, the appearance of a machoke that gave directions to his comrades before disappearing. While he couldn't quite make out what was being said on the ground, he could tell just from experience that the appearance of a pokemon with the cognitive ability to give directions to humans was probably not coincidence. Given the current situation, he wouldn't have trusted the machoke further than he could throw it.

Unfortunately, it appeared that Lorenzo, the new kid, didn't think the same.

Gerard was momentarily stung by indecision; stay here and watch over Alex, as he had intended? Or go after Lorenzo and make sure he was safe? Alex could survive on her own, but maybe the same was true of Lorenzo - Gerard honestly didn't know. At the same time, Alex was in immediate, obvious danger whereas Lorenzo might have some time yet.

The decision was made easy, however, when the woman - and the machoke - disappeared into the city. Alex was safe, then. Good. Gerard rolled away from the edge of the roof and took off after Lorenzo, headed for the old lab. By the time Lexi had given them away to Alex, Gerard was far enough gone to be halfway to the lab.

He jumped to the ground and stopped, looking around carefully as his hand drifted to his gun. With a swipe of his hand, he released both Justice and Style, allowing the larvitar and the ralts to spread out and sweep the area for traps either physical or more devious. That done, Gerard proceeded into the lab after the kid and his vulpix. At that point he heard a shout and was forced to throw caution to the wind.

He heard Lorenzo talking to Gloria as he approached, and his alarm turned into annoyance. Pinpointing Lorenzo by sound, Gerard bent and grabbed him by the shirt, hauling him to his feet. "I don't think anyone will mind," Gerard growled, "but you know what they do mind? People running off on their own. What do you think you're doing?"

---

The woman might not be helpful as of yet, but at least she had the right idea. "Yeah, getting out of here is probably the best course of action." Vivian hoisted her stuff onto her back and prepared to move out. "There's a town nearby; Denville or something like that. We can check that out first."

She headed for the cave entrance. "I'm Vivian, by the way," she said over her shoulder, somewhat quietly. Embarrassed? "Vivian Ross."

((I got permission to put the absol in the house.))

After figuring out that Gerard had left for Lorenzo, both Lexi and Alex ran all the way to Beatriz's old house. They didn't make it there as fast as Gerard did, but they did make it there in record time. "Sweet Jesus on a silver platter..." Alex was heaving as they ran. It wasn't that it was a long run but that her body wasn't used to dealing with that kind of physical stress. "I hate running. If God intended for us to run, he wouldn't have given us ponyta." When they arrived outside the house, Alex bent over panting hard. Her skin was pale and her tremors were becoming extremely obvious. "Just...just a minute. I'm okay." Oh God my sides! I forgot why I hated running so much till this moment. Her heart pounded was pounding fast and hard. Almost too hard. Please don't let me be having a heart attack. Please please please? Ever so slowly her skin got back to a relatively normal color. The shaking didn't stop.

"O-okay. You ssssshhould probably call out your pokemon." She didn't know what was in the house but she didn't want to be caught unaware. Giddy crawled in ahead of the two girls and showed them via Giddy-camera that the two boys were safe. "D-Doesn't sound like anything's gone wrong." Yet. "Remind me to string them up by their entrails after we make sure they're okay?" That would probably kill them and wouldn't be pleasant. Or clean. Maybe I should skip that part. "Maybe we'll skip that part." For now, get in and get the kids.

She shakily walked into the house and left the door open. She couldn't really make out the two boys but the Giddy-cam gave her an estimate of where they were. She grabbed their shoulders tightly. They could feel how badly she was shaking. "Let's get out. NOW." She was ready to pull them out when a sound stopped her head in her tracks.

It was a growl. Had she taken the time to look, she'd have seen that it was the injured absol that the ex-Bishop mentioned. "There's an absol here. Angry and injured. Do not attack it. Do not do anything to it. Just --" The growling grew angrier. "Oh s**t."

She turned to see a pair of bright eyes. Kinda like a cat's eyes. "Niiiice absol." It was just her luck that it wasn't paying attention to anyone else, wasn't it? Had anyone tried to get close to it, it would swipe at them. But it seemed to want her attention for some reason. So long as it doesn't hurt the others, it can have all the attention it wants from me.

--------

Had Juno known that what she'd said offended Ramsden, she'd have apologized. It was merely stating a fact, not an insult. She even kind of liked it (even if it made her pull out her hair).

She easily grabbed the radio and hid it in her jacket. "See ya in a bit Evie," she said as she returned her pokemon to its pokeball. "So uh, who am I riding with this time?" She hid her hands in her pockets. Someone's gonna have to help me explain to the Oak professors why I don't have a bike anymore. Thank God for Willam.

She couldn't wait to see Naya when she got home. I could really use a hug. And some good food that has no chance of being drugged.
