Well, I've been wondering about this for a while, and unfortunately any thread I make in the Minishops Assistance forum isn't particularily helpful, so I figured I'd ask you persons for your opinion on the matter, if you'd care to comment on the subject. I get commissions for art once in a blue moon, and I'm fairly certain that the cause is one of the following: a. I'm overcharging b. I'm holed away in a shop that doesn't get bumped enough c. Noone looks for artists in group shops. Now I'm fairly certain I'm not overcharging, but... even when I go to other persons request threads, noone is ever interested. Either because the style doesn't mix or I'm overcharging. Or my art is too ugly to not be worth buying no matter what the price XD Which definitely isn't the case. No matter how many little, or big mistakes, if the price is low enough people will buy. I used to have an extremely busy shop, selling fullbody CGs for 3k, this was over a year ago. I've improved by ridiculous measures since then. Relevant information to the possibilities of A. A Prices... pencil & inks waist-up: 2k, knee-up: 3k. (price down by 1k for lineart only) watercolour pencilcrayons waist-up: 4k, knee-up: 5k (price down by 1k for monocrome) Examples of said things: Pencil sample: 1, 2, 3Ink sample: 1, 2, 3, 4Watercolour Pencilcrayon sample: 1, 2, 3, 4Now, I dunno.. but 5k for knee-up doesn't seem too high to me, but that may just be because I'm me and am pricing my art too high. I won't take offense at being told that that's too high. I want to know why my ability to sell things a complete failure, and even if the truth is harsh or cruel.. is better than not knowing and still not selling anything. Moving along. Possibility b, shop not bumped enough. I bump it as often as I can but likely that isn't enough. B and C have the same manner of relevant information, which could only be a link to the group shop of natural media users that I am a part of. Natural Media ShoppeHowever, I also have my prices listed in my journal (though that's not really advertised), and my PM box is rarely full for long, so contact for commissions is not entierly limited to discovery of that shop... I do enter my fair share of contests, so presumabley if someone saw my entry and liked it, they may check my journal to see if I take commissions. Or they may notice the link in my sig to the shop >_>;;;; Either way. I'd really, really like to know why it is that I'm so extremely unpopular. I've only ever gotten 1 commission that I can recall through NMS, and the shop opened at the end of Dec/begining of June-- and that person commissioned like 4 people from the shop at the same time sweatdrop Everything else I've done has been through scowering out request threads, or holding ridiculously successful auctions. I don't know why, but people are willing to pay 6, 7k via auction for my art... but not 5k flatsale. And I detest holding auctions, so I really just wish I could get business through a shop. Anyway! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. heart

Personally, group shops turn me off. whee ; I'm much more confortable in a shop where the artist is the thread author and is attentive and responsive. I dislike leaving my request in the sea of posts that group shops often are, for it to be forwarded on to the proper artist. I'd rather deal directly with the artist than throgh a shop mule. 3nodding

Yeah, the problem with NMS is that... I'm kinda the only really "attentive and responsive" person, and that's only between the hours of like.. midnight and 7am -_-;;
Most of the other artists drop by every day/few days, but... I dunno. I originally joined the group shop to save on how much bumping I personally would have to do, but.. I'm like the only person who bumps NMS.
I think maybe I should just set up my FISH shop again ;_; I've been meaning to for a while, but I set it up months ago the day before the big forum rewrite, which my contest thread got lost in... and.. FISH's posts just never came back >_<;; so I have to do everything over again and I've not been looking forward to it.
.. .. holy cow FISH' s posts are.. finally back =o!!!!!!
*excitement*

There could be a few reasons for it, Anetra.
One, it could be the lack of complete Anime Style and/or CG. Gaia's population seems crazy lovers of the two together. (In the shop I'm a part of, the one person in the shop who's gotten the most orders so far is the one who does that style. xp )
Two, if someone only looks at a few of your samples and not all of them, they may stumble across the ones with a few anatomy faults. You may actually wish to take out any pictures where a fault in anatomy can be seen at a glance. (Many people have problems with it, myself included. So it's not a bad thing for yourself. Just may be your downfall to getting commissions)
Three, like Raesha said, few are comfortable with the group shop thing. I believe it may be because they feel it'd be insulting to the others if they put in an order for only so many people in the shop. (Thing is, group shops expect that. wink So people in them don't tend to mind overly much, or so, IG seems to be sweatdrop )
Four, the auction biz. R&C is crazy with Auction threads momentarily. A lot of people who'd normally go looking for shops get fed up looking through the endless stream of auctions to find that one shop.
But... that's what I feel may be the factors. I could be wrong about some or all of them. But as to your prices being too high... *shakes head in negative* My full body with colour (Traditional or CG) is 10k and I've sold them. So it's not the prices. 3nodding

(In the shop I'm a part of, the one person in the shop who's gotten the most orders so far is the one who does that style. xp ) Yeah I guess that could have to do with it ^_^;; I mean, I know most Gaians like the bright huge eyed CG, but most gaians do that too, so I figured there'd be plenty of people who were fed up of it as well. But maybe not ^_^;; Mousira Two, if someone only looks at a few of your samples and not all of them, they may stumble across the ones with a few anatomy faults. You may actually wish to take out any pictures where a fault in anatomy can be seen at a glance. (Many people have problems with it, myself included. So it's not a bad thing for yourself. Just may be your downfall to getting commissions) That's actually a problem I'm aware of but have trouble dealing with. Or at least, related to said problem.. Nobody else seems to like the pictures of mine that *I* like. So I guess my sample choices may be unfavourable. Mousira Four, the auction biz. R&C is crazy with Auction threads momentarily. A lot of people who'd normally go looking for shops get fed up looking through the endless stream of auctions to find that one shop. Yeah I don't get the whole auction thing. I hate holding them, but they're always way more successful than my shop. Thats one of the reasons I dont like Minishops Suggestions. All the threads there are "Am I auction material yet????" -_-;;

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with your pricing. I even like traditional..as much as I do CG.
When it comes to group stores, I don't mind them either, under the condition that several artists interest me in the shop. I usually won't pay much attention if
1. The artists I am interested in still have the names in their slots from ages ago. 2. Only one artist interests me and they are closed. 3. Nearly every artist is and always is ...closed.
Also, activity is vital for a thread. One of my big...annoyances is when you order from an artist..and they dissappear, never to so much as bump in their thread again. stressed
As for anime/manga styles...none of that really matters much to me. I like art in all forms. It all depends on how well the artist can do it 3nodding

Anetra: Heh... Many of us in Illusion Genesis thought so too. A few others have gotten one or two commissions, but their styles are also quite close to anime/chibi. But, for the rest of us, where our styles range from Cartoon to Semi-Realism, there doesn't seem to be much demand. sweatdrop (unless it's free. >.<) Just in case you feel it may be reason two I listed, the ones that jumped out at me were Pencil 3, Ink 3, and Ink 4. The rest took me at least a moment before I saw any problems. 3nodding I've done a couple of auctions on my own and one collab. The collab did better than the ones on my own. (But then, Amber's lineart is just so neat to colour with Cel-Shading. 4laugh ) But yeah, auctions are getting out of hand. I'll be happy when/if they open the Auction forum. 3nodding
Night: Ahh... if only more people were like you. ^-^ But then, that's why those of us here are Art Whores. 4laugh blaugh We're all that way. Let's hear it for those who love all art! Whoo!

DEFINATELY it was copy/pasted, or the character was drawn overtop of the picture. The feathers fall in the EXACT SAME PLACES, everywhere.
