Miyuki was at least in her nightgown but it was clear her hair hadn't fully dried, which didn't surprise Lin in the least, her daughter's hair was so long now. Still, she was on top of the sheets instead of under them and Senka was using Miyuki's tails as a pillow.

"It seems like a pity to disturb them...." Lin murmured.

But they might get cold in the middle of the night, the desert was hot during the day but it was quite cold during the night.

Earendil smiled and gave Lin a one-armed hug before he moved silently into the room and headed towards the closet in one corner of the room. He opened the door and pulled out some extra blankets, one for each of the children. He used the first one to cover Miyuki, then tucked the other around Andarien. After planting a soft kiss on each of their foreheads, he returned to the hallway.

"Advantages of knowing where things are located," he grinned at Lin.

Lin chuckled, "Indeed... Now I know for the future."

Taking his hand, she closed the door and tugged him along to their room.

"Come on, tomorrow is going to be a long day of visiting..."

And so the two retired for the night.

The next morning, after breakfast, the family of four headed into the city to visit Earendil's old friends.

"Can we look at the shops, too?" Andarien asked as he trotted alongside his parents, holding Earendil's hand so that he wouldn't wander off.

"Perhaps if we have time," Earendil replied, "though we have a number of people to visit. We probably won't even get all of our visiting in today." He smiled at Andarien. "Don't worry, we'll be in the city long enough to see the whole city."

"Who are we going to see?" Andarien asked curiously. He used his free hand to adjust the dark goggles over his eyes. They hadn't been sure if he would need them, but they had figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

"Hmmm.... Aranhil for starters, he's the one who made our promise feathers... "

Lin looked thoughtful for a moment before looking over at Earendil.

"We probably should drop by your grandparents' inn, they've met Miyuki but not Andarien..."

And then there was the candy shop but she wasn't sure if she wanted the children to be around when Earendil announced that because Andarien was observant and she didn't want to explain anything that might come out of it.

"I'd also like to see Haldir," Earendil added slowly, "though if you'd like I could go in first alone and see if he's there, and alone."

He knew that Lin did not like Halaleel - he didn't either - but he knew Lin was worried about how Halaleel would react in front of the children. He strongly suspected everything would be fine, considering that if she showed disrespect to a member of the royal family she could be arrested, but he wanted Lin to feel comfortable about it.

Lin was silent for a moment, and knew deep down it wasn't Halaleel she was worried about perse.

"It's fine, thank you for suggesting it though," Lin murmured, "I know you want to tell her yourself, I just am... for some reason worried what sort of questions that might invoke in Andarien, he's quite observant... he did notice your father's sour face after all. He was too young when Miyuki had to learn that not everyone is... well nice."

"He's going to have to be introduced to the idea eventually," Earendil pointed out. "And if he's already noticed it on my father, then there's no point in hiding it from him any more. We can't hide the world from him, or him from the world."

The sooner Andarien learned how to deal with people like that, the better - or so Earendil thought.

"No... we can't," Lin mused thoughtfully.

Though it wasn't like she was sheltered from it, she was just too naive at the time to realize Ruel didn't like her for being her, and by the time she did realize what Ruel was like, she had chalked it up to him being him.

In all honesty Lin had always been lucky but she had learned through being told and hearing the history of the world, but then again she had been an outsider looking in. She always had home to go back to, but this was their home now, not Gaia.

Earendil smiled. "Then perhaps we should start with Aranhil, then see Haldir, and then see my great-grandparents," he suggested. "That way, worse come to worse, we still end our visits for today on a good note."

Andarien was looking up at his parents as they walked, listening carefully to what they said.

Miyuki frowned a bit as she walked a bit closer to Andarien, she thought that Haldir was a nice guy, so she didn't understand why her parents were worried. Unless there was someone else involved, which she supposed that could always be the case.

They made their way to the jeweler shop, and despite the earlier serious conversation, Lin looked forward to it. She had known Aranhil since she was a child, and it would be good to see him again.

The jeweler's shop had not changed other than its wares since the last time Lin and Earendil had been there. Of course, as items were sold, more were made, and since this was not Gaia, each piece was different and so the stock was always changing.

"Hey, that's pretty!" Andarien exclaimed, letting go of Lin's hand and pressing his nose against a display case to look more closely.

Lin chuckled, it looked like Miyuki was the only one who liked shiny things. She looked over at her daughter and noticed that Miyuki had already wandered off to look at the hair pieces.

Which really shouldn't have surprised Lin at all.

"It is very pretty, they do amazing work here," Lin told Andarien.

"Prince Earendil!" Aranhil's voice rang out, cheerful. "Welcome home!"

Earendil chuckled and squeezed Lin's shoulder before he headed over to the counter to talk with the jeweler. "Thank you," he said warmly. "How have you been?"

"No complaints," Aranhil grinned. "And I can see the two of you are doing well. Family's grown, eh?"

Andarien was about to reply to Lin when Aranhil called out, and now he looked up at Lin. "Do you know him?" he asked her curiously.

Lin put a hand against Andarien's back and looked back to Aranhil, "That's Aranhil, he's an old family friend. Aranhil, I want you to meet our son, Andarien."

She smiled up at Aranhil, because the last time they had talked she had commissioned Earendil's pendant.
