Minor spoilers about Negima episode 16+ and the manga.
I'm a bit disappointed with how they handled this part. In the manga, all of that takes place during the Kyoto trip, which brings in Sakurazaki and Asakura into the whole "Negi knows magic" thing. Thus, there's more to the whole thing than just as a competition, as Chamo's created a magical circle around the building and whoever wins would thus get a card. Plus, a lot from episodes 17 and 18 happen there too, including the confession and Negi's reaction. Plus, then Nodoka wins and gets her card (and thus magical weapon/item and is brought up to speed on the magic thing), so I'm wondering what they're going to do when they eventually move on to tackle that part. Ah well. For what it was, I liked it, but I think that they did themselves wrong by changing so much from how it was in the manga, since it included so much more there.
