You make it sound like the revised Elysian list is a bother to use. To me personally it's a great release, finally allowing me to field a large airborne wing made up of veterans and support gunships. Especially now that I've got access to some nice Elysian only eye candy for added style bonuses.
You're using an old and obsolete army list.

* Slight liberty taken here, as for some reason officers are not allowed to carry lasguns, which is a load of shite.

Too expensive and I've already got veterans, so no. For the price of a Storm Trooper squad I could get another squad of veterans with a Valkyrie.

back at the game store in texas they knew to look out for my chimera full of veterans because it would always stop with some move straight out of cops and the would jump out guns blazing. Not even the mightiest tyranid creatures stood against them. Them an the sneaky stormtroopers my friend suddenly realized that Leman Russ squadrons parked end on end at the far edge of the table still were not safe from my wrath.

the bonus of stormtroopers is you can minimax them for cheap deepstriking 2-melta team... by comparison tankhunting veterans with demolitions and 3 meltaguns and a transport are costly investment, and cant reach enemy deployment zone as easily

It's the AP3 that won me over with them.

S3 ap3 isnt all that great when you struggle to wound most targets with 3+ save as they have t4 (MEQ)... especially with the basic stormtrooper costing more than chaos marine. Add to this "everyone gets cover" philosophy of this edition and it is not as good as it seems.

Don't forget the decrease in range. Hellguns have a range of just 18" gonk I would've been very happy if they were assault 2 instead of rapid fire.
Storm troopers are better at some of the more risky stuff, like tackling tanks from behind with plasma or melta guns, though for some stupid reason they cannot have melta bombs! scream
I like fielding mine, but yes, they are too expensive and very limited in what they can do properly. I'm sorely tempted to swap them out for another Leman Russ tank.

I usually make up for the lack of range, if I need to, by fielding an Inquisitor and using them as Deamon Hunters Stormtroopers. Then I have the old Hellgun again. =D

I almost always take 10 and with mixed kit. Maybe one day we can talk about me shooting a Leman Russ with a flamer

Well, many LR variants have rear armor 11 making it unflammable (unless you have heavy flamer or stonger)... I have a fond memory of exploding dread with rhino's storm bolter, though razz
I stand by minmaxing melta squad, because re-roll for DS allows them to reliably kill tanks in enemy deployment zone (guard mirror match anyone?), and if they are landing in such close vicinity of enemy main force, they are going to be dead anyway. people tend to take a grudge when a big tank is blown up razz
