an Interesting chat we have here. Mainly for me I prefer Ultramarines as my Choice in Space Marines.

Something of a core that I have been toying with:

Captain: Artificer armour, Relic blade and plasma pistol
Command Squad: Apothecary, standard bearer, Company Champion, two Veterans with bolt pistols and close combat weapons

Tactical Squad: Flamer, missile launcher, power weapon
Tactical Squad: Flamer, missile launcher, power weapon
Tactical Squad: Plasma gun, lascannon, power weapon
Tactical Squad: Plasma gun, lascannon, power weapon
Tactical Squad: Meltagun, heavy bolter, power fist
Tactical Squad: Meltagun, heavy bolter, power fist

Terminator Squad: Assault cannon, chain fist
Sternguard Veteran Squad: Power fist, combi-plasma
Venerable Dreadnought: Assault cannon

Assault Squad: Power fist, flamer
Assault Squad: Power fist, flamer

Land Raider Redeemer

Predator Annihilator: Lascannon sponsons

very nice list imho
you cant really go wrong with loads of tac squads, they give you lots of powerarmored bodies, and are scoring... rest of the list seems to be quite eclectic, but efffectie nonetheless - redeemer is the bane of MEQ, annihilator is the tank hunter and whirlwind is cheap barrage that can deny cover saves... assault squads provide mobile strike element while terminators, dread and command squad - with captain attached probably - make excellent counterpunch to enemy assaults on your main line or a tip of assault if you go on the offensive. and sternguard with their flexible ammo options will almost always find worthy target

Perhaps best of all, Tactical Squads can split, so half can bunker down, half can move about. Double the scoring units as well.

Yes, with aid of the Bletcher's Gland they can. Some Chapters have lost it throughout the millennia though.

I could take two full Devastator squads and add five assault marines to each assault squad, making them even larger and another step towards company level.

A massive point sink, but entirely worth it as they can take out a Carnifex or nearly any tank, or super heavy in one round of shooting is the Lascannon Battery, which is, as you can guess, four lascannon Marines.

That did cross my mind. While I like the concept behind the Devastator squad, I find mixing weapons a bad idea that won't serve it any good. Maybe two squads with four lascannons each, maybe give the sergeant that special upgrade and throw in those extra meat shields to keep them firing.

But that puts each squad to around 480 points, and for two of them.
I mean, they are probably the nastiest unit on the battle field, but I don't think, unless in 3+ or 4+ cover, they are as durable as say a land raider.

my take on devs is full 10-man squad, 4 missile launchers - at 230 points they are not that costly, and can be split into 2 combat squads, which presents enemy with 2 targets and allows to target 2 enemy units at the same time...

I've just been conferring with a experienced friend of mine, and we have decided between us that the Missile Launcher is the best all round heavy weapon ever, that for Horde, some elites and tanks, and possibly have a plasma cannon with the three ML, as I have to say its a butcher for Power armour armies.

It's all a paper army now really chaps, still looking at it from every angle possible. wink

Though I am more or less set on building a complete company. sweatdrop I just need to decide on what Chapter to go with.
