You could also come down here, get a job, and send rent payments to your landlord. *Eyebrow waggle* My mother does that with a storage lot up in Connecticut. And you'd still be getting the break and the job/life experience to help you with going back and finding another job. Then we'd just have to worry about a plane ticket and the extra charge for pet carry-on.

But on the subject of local hunting, it's hard to get your big kid pants on and do it, because those pants are uncomfortable and either seem too big or too small and complicated. Applications and call-backs aren't as easy-cheesy as teenagers and such seem to assume; it's scary and the pressure is intense.

First, you need to not set a specific time to get up. Doing so only starts you off on a weird sense of 'this is on a timed schedule' and it will start you out on a note of panic and pressure. Rock out late and sleep until you're good and ready to wake up. Take a shower at a relaxed pace and dress to be comfortable but put-together. Sit down where you can and fill out applications while you're at the place, then ask for a manager directly when you hand it in. It's intimidating but do it anyway, roleplay if you need to. "Is it possible for me to talk to your hiring manager?" (Key phrase being 'hiring manager' - sometimes actual store managers don't hire people, human resources does, and whoever you ask will know which one to page.) Thank said manager for their time when they come down, and rather than instantly ask 'are you hiring?' try instead to say "I put in my application today; I've wanted to work here for (random number of months) because (insert bullshit story.) Are you hiring?" The story should be about how, months and months ago, you were impressed by a service provided by an employee. Don't make up names or anything, just say you valued their great customer service skills. This puts the manager in the mindset of "oh this kid knows good service, so she'd be more likely to provide it herself." Also add something about a favorite product in the store - it shows familiarity they want in employees, even if you actually know nothing about the store - they'll train you on it later anyway. End the conversation with a handshake (GIVE THEM YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAME WHILE DOING SO; "My name is Cassy, it's nice to meet you - thanks so much for coming down and talking to me!") firm but relaxed, then walk away. DO NOT WALK DIRECTLY TO THE DOOR. Linger somewhere, THEN go. Make them think the job hunt is not the only reason you came in. They don't like desperate people because desperate people steal from them after being hired XD

The reason I say make up a story about months and months ago is there's no way for them to verify it happened. XD

*Bows to Naz while writing this all down in a notebook*

You are a fountain of wisdom and loveliness. 8D

Like I don't even hardly know what to say to that, it's all so awesome and infused with....... awesomeness. I'll probably come home vomiting tomorrow but if I can do even like... 75% of that that'll be awesome.

And oooooh.. but driving/bus is cheaper/more conducive. xD Goddamn why can't Wisconsin be closer to Kansas?
PostPosted: Thu May 27, 2010 10:05 pm

wtf it's still like $250 for a round trip ticket from appleton to wichita. Nuuu.. wtf maybe sometime SOON when I have that, yes.

Lol and my cousin wants to kidnap me up north for 4th of july at this place thing... sigh...... I'm half hoping this'll all fail so I'll just have to get a loan for the summer and then I can do whatever. xD

Yay loans, loans up to my eyeballs and beyond.

I can't think of any bus services that allow animals. And Elliot is very fat. XD Which has nothing to do with anything except that getting him on a bus would be hard. And driving would NOT be cheaper o_o Gas is almost $3 a gallon, girl, whatchu talkin' bout? Plane tickets are $130 bucks, round trip, sometimes.

Don't freak if you misspeak or they don't seem to feel you, or a manager isn't available. You're likely to make a mistake and there's nothing wrong with that, we all take babysteps. :3

Also, this suggestion might get me sent to hell, but if it's a female manager... try adding "before my mother passed last year, we came here all the time and blah blah blah" or something of the sort in your BS story about customer service. A lie, but a damn good dirty card to play. *Slytherin*

I'm trying to decide what method I'm going to use on telling Jorma he has 30 days. Do I want to destroy him completely so he is too emotionally crippled to protest or cause s**t, or sweet-talk him and deal with his crap all month? Which means more to me, my relaxation or his soul? <********, I could RUIN HIM if I wanted. o___o I could make him wish he'd never met me. I am a vicious person.

But he's been hella rude to Kat lately and it's hard for me to let that just GO...

I would go with a gentle but firm telling at first- be the one telling him that it is just not working out and give him logical reasons for it- the money, the bringing people over you don't want, the not getting along.

And when/if he counters with whining/bitchyness/fighting, attempt again to talk to him in a calm manner and say that 'this is best for everyone involved.'

And if he continues to be bitchy, then ruin him. At least then you get the upper hand right away by being the good/calm/responsible/adult one and he only will look foolish by fighting back when you're being perfectly reasonable about something he probably knows is coming.

:3 The mental contest you shall win by doing this will only make the ruining sweeter, if it comes to that. because though he may call you a b***h to other people, in his head he will always remember the stinging defeat of your greater maturity. 8D

O_o And really, that cheap for plane? Wow. And lol gas ,right, right. :3

Haha, great dirty card. 'well helping people kind of runs in my family, my mother always loved helping people, friends, family, co-workers, until she passed away anyways'

yeah I can be dirty. :33333 *Pats rowle* he lives in there somewhere.

Naw, you don't suck. *Hugs* Birthdays sometimes come early, sometimes come late, is all. 8D And sometimes the late ones can be the best ones. Guilt presents!

And delicious guilt cake. 8D

22!!!!!!!!! You old hag. :O

So got all anxious again but I talked to my cousin and she said the Y had openings for cleaning, so I'm going to go there and then to Family Video and maybe one other place. I was getting all worked up about applying at multiple places and I think she was right about not overwhelming myself... v_v

And it's lunch hour now so...Imma just try to do my.... pressure point relaxing thing for a bit and then head out around 12:30ish...... yep.

I was all miserable last night so Kitty had to coddle me until I felt better. xp

I have no days off this week. I work ALL DAY today so you'll have to keep Kat company.

So in addition to my mother, our friend Tenasia will be moving in for a few weeks with her baby. Mom is giving us $100 a week and Tenasia, if she's temp, $200 a month. She's kinda ******** over right now and just had that baby. And I don't really care because that's a total of $600 of additional income each month ($700 in July) as opposed to Jorma's $230ish. That's like two and a half more of my checks each month. With water being the only increasing utility, because of more showers being taken. It'll take just as much air to heat/cool that part of the house with two people as it does with one, because it's the same section of the house.

I'll let her know she can stay two months before her 'rent' would increase to $300 a month. I dunno if I want her here long term simply because I like my space and I know for a fact that Mom will never be here; Tenasia, I don't know about.

*Rolls around*

@Mikemort: Yup. You dread coming to work ALL FRIGGAN DAY and it ruins everything you try to do. I have all night shifts this week.

@Casseh: HEY WHAT'S UP B? Start more scenes with me. *Lolling around*

HEY. HEY, YOU TOO, MIKEMORT. WE'LL MAKE A MASTERLIST OF THE SCENES WE'RE IN TO KEEP TRACK AND DO LIKE 800.

POSTINGGGGG.
