Sometimes you have to put your foot down, especially got holidays, but I understand that was a hard choice.

Fallout has yet to happen, but it may still be coming. I already have heard rumblings of being thrown under the bus by one shift runner though that is no surprise. She has proven to be incredibly unyielding and unpleasant. We shall see how that plays out.

In other "ain't that grand" news, I found somebody I have been searching for for quite literally half my life. She was my first intimate partner, and we separated on very good terms. We lost touch with one another years upon years ago. I found her and it was only to catch up and see whatever happened to her. That has caused a massive fight with the wife and I- even though she knows it was not malicious. She was informed, and no steps were taken beyond the initial search. Ugh. another fight.

2016 has sucked the most disgusting of balls. I am so sick of this effing year.

Have always hated workplace interpersonal dynamics; too many people willing to be deceptive or cutthroat. And people wonder why I prefer working alone to being on a team...

Unfortunately facts take a backseat to feelings in matters that sensitive. Hopefully it blows over quickly enough.

And the blowback has arrived. Tonight, I was caught doing nothing for a moment, and a more amicable coworker asked when I was to be out for they day. Without malice or any form of aggression I said "fifteen minutes ago." When asked why I hadn't gone the response was an honest "I was not told I could leave." To which the owner went on a several minute long diatribe about how that contradicts so much of my behavior and how he has fielded several calls about how I left during the rush on Thanksgiving eve. Any attempt to defend or explain were cut off- that was not a conversation. That was a beratement.

What gets me is that when others half-a** their jobs or leave in a rush it is glossed over. When I did it (for the first time in nearly 4 years of continuous employment at that physical store), it caused such uproar that it had to go all the way to the owners via no less than two people. The owner did not see fit to confront me about it until now- five days later. After I had covered for his lazy and incompetent a** all day. So yeah, I am rather . . . miffed. in the end, I did the only thing I could. I apologized once, and repeatedly said "yessir" at appropriate intervals when being fussed at.

As for the personal situation, She is trying to move past it and/or ignore it. I've apologized all I can . . . so now we try to move past it together.

Oh dear, getting singled out like that really stinks. Hopefully it will blow over given you have a track record of good work.

Evidently I am on very thin ice anymore. Seems odd given that I am constantly doing all I can for the store. At this point, apathy is starting to take over. After years, it is becoming more and more effort to give a crap.

I hate when apathy sets in, especially since it's not _that_ hard for an employer to do enough right (conversely, to not do enough wrong) to make a work situation bearable. But, such is...

Not only is apathy setting in, irritability is a constant presence.

What's more, the store has developed a reputation around town for being among the worst places to work. So it isn't a stretch of my imagination to say this place is doing remarkably poorly in morale.

Bad reputations are hard to improve, and that in general makes everything worse...
PostPosted: Mon Dec 12, 2016 10:08 pm

The owners and district manager have proven time and time again a dismal lack of interest in leading the store. They want somebody to step up and take over. Somebody to do the job for them. While I can appreciate that mentality, when that method had burned through four (possibly five) managers in less than two years, I have to wonder if they realize their way is not sustainable.

On a personal victory, evidently I have a reputation among them. They will not turn to me unless absolutely necessary, as I will not do anything extra for that place. I'm not interested in helping them beyond staying for my shift- and if I wasn't so good at it, perhaps they would let me go. As it is . . . I'm the best they have, and we all know it.

Seems a bit silly to lower the value of your company hoping to get a quality person to ride in to save the day.
My company has had a hard time recovering from belt-tightening that started last year when our largest client scaled back on us dramatically without warning, and being somebody on the ground, it is frustrating seeing management making the wrong move. Not the same as your situation, but there are some similarities.

Ah, the necessary ace; a nice position to be in. smile

Not as nice a position as it would be to get decent pay. But, until anything breaks for this old man, I'm kinda stuck.

Nobody listens to me, despite my experience and time spent. Been almost four consecutive years in that restaurant, but nobody seems to think I have even the slightest idea of what is going on. That is exceedingly frustrating. Particularly when I am proven right and the subject is ignored. Nobody wants to give me props.

Concerning heeding your words or giving you credit, that's unfortunately an ego issue with them. Sadly egos rarely lessen, and they can only rarely be addressed w/ offense being taken.

I have no faith in the management or ownership of the store whatsoever. I'm mostly keeping the job because I need to take care of my family. To date, this area has not given me any luck with employment. It takes years to find a new job while others that should hire me don't give me a second look. None of it makes sense, but that is my situation.

The job market is so messed up at times, especially when not near a big city.
