Rei shrugged.
"It won't bother me. I bathed this morning, so at least whoever sits next to me won't be assaulted by stench," he joked, trying to keep the mood light.

Caleb waved back to Maddy. He flinched at Jake's comment about Kalosians being boring. Way to go Jake. Caleb just waited silently as everyone else started showing up one by one. Rei, then Rose carrying the frozen turd. Caleb frowned slightly, not because of Carbink, but for leaving Kalos.
Then Maddy announced they were leaving and everyone started to the sub. Caleb trudged along after the others. He could only imagine what Jake though was too much luggage. Rei's comment though. Caleb silently prayed that everyone had recently bathed.

Hearing that they were leaving, Rose ran up to her room, gathered her belongings, and she ran to catch up with the others.

As they approached the edge of the wide canal that looped around Lumiose's prized tower, the submarine submerged and opened to beckon them all inside. Maddy waited outside for everyone to board and to finish her smoke. She didn't quite like smoking in enclosed spaces, especially around others who didn't smoke or like it. Putting out the last of her smoke and throwing it in the trash, she boarded the sub and sat herself in the pilot's chair. She looked over her shoulder at the rest of them. "Hey, Caleb. Wanna be co-pilot?" We got a long journey ahead, figured it'd be best to have two people watching the submarine."

Jake looks at the sub, getting a weird vibe. There was something about it that didn't feel... right. "Well let's get this show on the road." He grumbles and climbs in while making sure the Larvitars don't fall off his shoulders.

The Countess quickly settled to life in the submarine, placing herself on the ceiling and dangling on a wire. Rei settled himself in a narrow seat, not uncomfortable but certainly not roomy. He pulled out a map of the sea and looked at the navigational tools at his disposal; an old-school periscope, the radar and sonar, and the timeless tradition of poking your head out of the submarine and squinting at the ocean.
"Unless we're trying to be ultra-secretive, it might be best for us to just skim along the surface of the sea," Rei suggested. "It would be the most efficient way to travel."

Caleb looked up, blinking a bit. Maddy's question caught him off guard a bit.
"S-sure!" he stammered, his eyes a bit larger than usual. He'd been planning to just take a nap on the way to their destination, but being co-pilot for the sub sounded much more exciting.
Marshtomp just followed him into the submarine, a smug grin on his face. Finally Caleb wasn't being a butthead for once!
Caleb set his bags off to the side. He took out a wiggling pokeball when he was sure his bags wouldn't get in the way of everyone else. "You want out too then huh?" he muttered. After letting her out, Noibat looked around curiously. "Just try to behave and don't fly around in here too much..." Caleb warned her. That wouldn't be much of a problem at all, at least once she spotted the Countess hanging out on the ceiling of the submarine. Noibat made her way up as well and got comfortable. That just left Marshtomp. Before Caleb could say a word, Marshtomp scooted over to one of the seats beside Caleb's bags. Well that was easy.
Caleb made his way over to Maddy and the controls, removing his jacket and putting it on the back of his seat. He really didn't want those sleeves getting hooked on a lever or anything important. He gently sat down in his seat, looking at all the buttons. Not that much different from a ship at all.

Rose took a seat, and then called gave her Carbink a hug and watched as the others prepared the sub. She'd help if they asked for it, but for nor she was just watching.
Carbink, meanwhile, was staring at Caleb "Caaar..." it said.

Maddy put the key in the ignition and the submarine engine roared into life. The door closed to the sub closed and locked, accompanied with a hiss as the inside compartment became air-tight. As the sub was starting up, Maddy pressed a few buttons to bring up a world map on a little digital screen situated above the radar screen in between her and Caleb. Yep, it was going to be quite the trip. She input the depth that the sub would travel at while they journeyed through Kalos' river systems. They couldn't go too deep, but they had to remain hidden from view. She let auto-pilot take over for now, as navigating the river was difficult in places and the computer would have faster reflexes than her and Caleb combined. Maddy leaned back, holding her hands behind her head. "There's not a whole lot to do as co-pilot, other than just learning how to control the sub from me." Maddy explained to Caleb, folding one leg over the other. Might as well get comfy. "We just gotta make sure the sub doesn't malfunction and go too deep or too shallow. Make sure the engine still sounds okay. Make sure it's taking it's turns properly." The submarine lowered itself to the proper depth and turned to travel upstream towards Coumarine City. "If you feel the need to take over auto-pilot and get a feel for the steering, be my guest. Just don't hit anything. Rivers suck for that." She glanced over her shoulder at everyone else. "Hope you're all comfy. This is probably going to be a long and uneventful ride."

Jake turns around only to see the back of the bench seat. He could swear he was being watched though. "Uh, yeah. I'll take a nap I think." He yawns and puts his sunglasses on to finally use them for their proper use; block light.

Rei put his map away and moved the older navigational tools aside to give himself more space. That done, he shifted his weight in his seat and closed his eyes. He wasn't trying to sleep as much as it was avoiding eye contact. Rei was never entirely comfortable with being underwater.

Not a lot to do eh? That didn't bother Caleb much at all. Less things for him to worry about. He nodded as Maddy went down the small list of things to keep an eye on.
"Got it," he answered.
He didn't feel any need to steer the submarine. At least not while they were going through the river.
"Right...." he said when Maddy mentioned not to hit anything. Rivers could be dangerous due to the currents too. Seas could be just as trecherous too if he wasn't careful. Reefs, rocks, formations and so on. He'd definitely have to be alert if he drove the submarine on his own.
"I might give it a go once later..." he mumbled. Deeper sea water would be his best bet for testing out the steering.

Maddy nodded. "The sea is way easier for steering. Just gotta watch for the stronger currents." They were nearing Coumarine now, nearing the bend in the river that would take them around the mountain the city was built into and out into the open ocean. This part of the river was a little more treacherous. Rocks would tumble off the mountain sometimes, so they had to keep an eye out for any that were heavy enough to shatter glass or dent the sub. The river was also shallower here, so it made navigating difficult. Maddy was thankful for auto-pilot, but was sitting a little straighter as they navigated through the river. Being in a sinking submarine was never a fun time. The river mouth that opened into the sea finally came into view, allowing Maddy to breathe a sigh of relief. But then her heart stopped. Hovering at the mouth of the river was Kyogre, the giant blue leviathan just watching them. The red markings adorning it's body glowed eerily against the dark blue expanse of ocean behind it. Maddy jumped to her feet and turned the auto-pilot off, stopping the submarine in it's tracks. She had to aim the jets slightly backwards to stop the river from pushing them closer to the Legendary Pokémon. "Guys..." It came out as a whisper, but she was sure the beast could see and most likely hear them. "Kyogre." She couldn't sense any hostility from the creature, but it was kinda blocking their way out of the river.

Rei bumped his head against the side of the submarine at the sudden change of direction.
"Ow..." He looked up at Maddy and opened his mouth to complain, but upon seeing her pale face and a huge creature at the main view, decided against it.
"Perhaps it knew you were leaving Kalos and wants to talk to you, Maddy," he mentioned, recalling Legendary Pokémon's collective affinity to the Aqua boss.

"Star, what's it..? Oh right." He yawns and looks at Kyogre out the window. "Yo." He greets it with a wave. He was hoping it was friendly, they were completely at it's mercy now. He could feel the presence watching him back off a bit. Whatever it is it's surprised to see a legendary Pokemon.
