Maia went over to Toby, taking his hand. "Dari's happy. You knew all along?"
Cody followed Dari downstairs, and instead of digging into his pockets for the present, he found himself staring, wide eyed at the amount of artwork down here. "Is this your studio?" he asked, eyes veering around the room and then smiling at Dari.

Toby nodded. "Yeah, I called him on Tuesday to see if they'd made plans, and apparently Dari hadn't told him."
"...studio. Sure, you can call it that," Dari said. It was dimly-lit at times and the furniture was mostly from Ikea, but this was where he did all of his painting. The boxes against the other wall were just plain storage.
"You can look around if you like. The only thing wet is this." He gestured to the work in progress. He still didn't always sleep, but he did more so now. He liked it.

"I'm glad you did," Maia said, smiling at him. She liked seeing Dari so happy, especially after everything he'd done for her.
Cody did look around, admiring the paintings. He looked towards Dari. "You really are an artist," He marveled. "Mine are scribbles in comparison." He pulled a piece of paper from his pocket and offered it to Dari. "Happy birthday, baby."

"We just have different styles," Dari said, but the end of the sentence sort of petered out. Oh? What was this? He reached out and took the paper, looking down at it.

"I wasn't sure what to get you." he'd considered a pet, but Dari was gone too often at work and probably traveled too often to properly care for one. "Then I thought, hey. This reminds me of the way Dari's eyes light up when he smiles." He stroked Dari's cheek. "We can go find it tonight."

Dari smiled. Oh, if only he knew...
His already-ethereal eyes got that light, and his lips pulled up in a grin.
"Thank you," he said, turning to throw his arms around Cody and hold him tightly. His own heavenly body. Imagine!

Cody returned the embrace, smiling brightly. "The rest of your present's in my car," he said. He'd had some trouble, but he thought he'd made the right choice. Dari certainly seemed happy.

What? The rest of it? This was more than enough! Dari pulled away smiling and gave Cody a lingering kiss.
"Do you want to name it now? Or later?"

"Let's wait until you see it," Cody decided. He smiled at Dari, eyes warm and lit with the usual excitement--and love. "We might have to drive a while, but I've got the coordinates to the best viewing spot..." He paused and stole another kiss. " I love you."

Dari returned each kiss and stroked Cody's curls. How had he been so lucky? Thank god for that ancient Elven woman. Without her, this would have never been possible. He would still be living in misery.
"We're going out after--?"
"Alright, kids! Ready to eat?" A call from upstairs; Toby.
"Coming!" Dari replied, and then turned back to Cody. "Are we going out after lunch?" He'd wondered why they were doing this so early in the day!

"Toby said I could have you after lunch," Cody smiled, looking up the stairs. Lunch time already? But he wasn't done... Oh well. He quickly gave Dari another kiss and offered him his hand. "What's for lunch?"

There were still so many things Dari hadn't tried. Meals were still fun and new. He had never had this sort of bread before, for example.
"They made sandwiches and pasta salad. Then we have cake. They wouldn't tell me what kind."

Cody led Dari upstairs, grinning. Pasta salad, sandwiches and cake. It all sounded good! "Maybe it's a surprise cake," He suggested.
"Dari, do you want punch? I made some." Maia smiled when she spotted the guys.

"What, the kind that a hot guy pops out of? I somehow doubt it," Dari teased. He took Cody's hand as they went up the stairs and nodded to Maia.
"Yes, please!" He had never had punch! "What can I get you, Cody?" As if Cody was the guest of honor.

"Nah. They would've asked me to pop out of it, if it was," Cody teased. Punch? That sounded good, actually.
Maia went to fetch two glasses of punch.
"Its your birthday, don't worry about me." Cody shook his head at Dari.
