"Just like how I always had lessons?" Andarien asked inquisitively. "Even though the lessons didn't work?"
He had never thought about that before. But then, he'd never known anyone whose language skills had deteriorated, either. He knew there were people who couldn't speak Common Elvish easily, but he had attributed that to not having known it in the first place.

Lin didn't quite get what he was saying off the bat, "What do you..."
She thought about it a bit more before realizing exactly what he had meant. The last part he said had confused her and of course it probably had to do with the nature of the practice.
"Oh! No... not lessons, we speak to each other in the language we want to practice, but it only works if someone else knows it," Lin replied.

"Oh." Andarien blinked at Lin and kept working away at his cookie. "Does that mean that I can help now that I can speak Common Tongue?"
It hadn't quite sunk in for him yet that he was able to speak all languages, but he was excited even just to know that he could speak one more language.

"Well, Common Tongue, believe it or not, despite where we've been gets used widely, that won't be an issue, and you're not limited to Common Tongue actually. Iorlas' gift to you is for all languages... though I guess I should have asked if that included languages not of this world."
She paused for a moment, because that hadn't occurred to her. It wasn't something they used and Miyuki only knew it because it was part of her heritage and Earendil learned it to have common ground with Lin.

Andarien liked the sound of that.
"Does that mean that I'll always be able to understand everyone, no matter what language they're talking?" he asked excitedly. "Everyone everywhere?"

"That's the theory," Lin nodded.
She said theory because she honestly didn't know if it included dimension hopping it wasn't something they had ever tried.
"But more importantly they should be able to understand you."
And for when they began to sail that was important.

Andarien was still grinning from ear to ear. "You know what, Nana?" he said brightly. "I think it's a good thing you gave me that yucky stuff to drink. Because now I don't feel stupid anymore!"
And with that, he finished off his cookie and slurped down his juice. Then he ran off to show his newly-gained ability to his sister and their father.

Lin laughed at that, though she would have tried to convince him he wasn't at all stupid. Though now without the problems of language hovering over Andarien, he could now focus on what he was good at.
Before long, it was time for them to leave. Which made Lin both happy and worried. Happy because she and Earendil would get to introduce Andarien to the rest of Earendil's family and worried because there was still the matter of Iorlas and Ioreth and she didn't know where Dareon fitted into all of this. Fortunately having two children kept one occupied, having to make sure that both children had everything they owned.

The others were also getting ready to go, though there were not as many as the last time they'd traveled. Daeron had chosen to stay behind with Iorlas, and of course Kelirahc and Leyenda had headed south with Amalirahc.
"Nana, why can Miyuki fit all her stuff in her bag and it doesn't get full and mine does?" Andarien asked Lin as he tried to shove some papers he'd gotten from Sylvar into his bag. "I can't fit my diagrams!"
Sylvar had given him detailed drawings of each and every piece of machinery on the plantation, and he wanted to take them with him; yet for the life of him he just could not fit the papers into his bag without wrecking them!

"Here, hand them to me and I'll put them into my bag. They'll get squished if you keep trying to do that," Lin held out her hand for the papers.
Maybe she should get those papers put into a folder, she wondered if there was anything like a portfolio binder at the book binders or something.
"And as for your question, your sister's bag has a set of magic runes, or rather a rune that allows her to put as much into her bag as she pleases without it filling up or feeling heavy. Your father's bag and mine are like that too, but you were born after we started this trip, so your bag isn't runed yet."
She wondered if her grandfather knew how to, he probably might have an idea but couldn't do it himself. He seemed to know an awful lot of theory even though he couldn't put into practice those theories.

Andarien handed the papers over to Lin, watching her carefully to make sure she wouldn't mess them up like he almost had.
"Do you think I could get a rune on my bag?" he asked hopefully. "I think I would like that, then I wouldn't have to worry about my things getting wrecked!"
Until that point he had been thinking about asking for a new bag, but if he could get a rune then he wouldn't need a new bag at all!

"You'll have to wait until we get to Gaia for that," Lin replied as she carefully settled it in.
It was also unknown how they could find anything in their bags because of it, but there was just something about the bags. Though she knew her old friend Raven made cracks about hammerspace when it came to bags like these. Always endless and always able to give you exactly the thing you needed.
"No one, except for Rhea in this world can do that, and she lives in Amon Darthir."

"Can you show me Amon Darthir on one of Ada's maps when we're in the wagon?" Andarien asked eagerly. "I'd like to see those places Mi is always talking about."
She knew so much about so many places! And he wanted to see them all!

"Sure, we can ask your ada for his world map once we get into the wagon."
She closed her bag up and lifted it over her shoulder. Turning a bit to see where Miyuki was, she called out.
"Miyuki, are you done?"
Miyuki trotted up to her mother and her little brother, with a bag on one shoulder and Senka on the other.
"Yup! At least I hope so I have everything."

"If not, Iorlas and Daeron can take it with them when they follow," Earendil assured Miyuki, coming up behind her. "Don't worry about it too much."
Andarien grabbed his bag and ran to the wagon, then tossed his bag up high onto it and tried to climb up himself. The floor of the wagon was as high as his armpits, however, and he ended up dangling from the back of the wagon instead.
"Up you go," Earendil grinned, picking him up by the back of his shirt and putting him up on the wagon.
Andarien squealed, but the moment his feet touched the wagon he shoved his bag aside and sat on the wagon seat.
